Mommas Kitchen in Leicester

Unfortunately I can’t leave a zero star review, however I ordered food almost an hour ago only to have them cancel my order with no reason. Tried calling the restaurant to find out why and no answer (very unprofessional to have a mobile number for a business) I order a lot from this restaurant and have never had an issue with placing an order, and I have recommended this place to a lot of people but I will telling them not to order anymore as this is just unbelievable customer service and not acceptable. Disgusting.

I had a meal with my family last month and the food was adjusted to our flavour which was absolutely delicious and and I highly recommend this restaurant for their fantastic food and service, I will be back for sure!

I found Mommas a few months ago on Uber and thought I would give it a go. I wasn't disappointed the first few orders from the curry menu. More recent orders I've had very tough pieces of chicken, poppadoms that are burnt or have a weird taste like they've been reheated or cooked in old oil, I'm not sure which. The chicken jalfrezi is very nice, lots of oil on top of the dish though, the pilau rice is lovely but it seems to come in either a small round container or a bigger one that holds more, when I get the small one I feel a bit cheated especially for the price. The pots of sauces are too small for the money and the yoghurt mint sauce is watery with barely any taste. This was my go-to online place for Indian but the inconsistent quality is putting me off to be honest. I hate to leave not so good reviews but I cannot leave a positive review if things are not right. Sorry Mommas, you need to up your game with the quality control please.

So we were looking for a place to hold a baby shower when we came across Momma’s kitchen. Nitin was very accommodating from the food to dietary requirements to us decorating in the restaurant. Food was very tasty and flavoursome and the service was great. Definitely the right choice for the event. Thank you to Nitin and his family.

Amazing staff even went to go and get ingredients for a custom made milkshake. Amazing food. Can't wait to go again.

Curries are very oily and a lot of the dishes are too sweet.

Popped in for a quick munch to take home for the boxing… All I can say is how did I not know it was there before! Food is incredible 👌🏽, cooked fresh. Place is authentic and clean. The staff are amazing. This will definitely be my new spot from now on!

Excellent restaurant, I gave four stars only because I find the food too sweet to my taste. Even a « spicy » chicken tikka masala is still very sweet. But I want to try their other dishes and a higher spicy level still. Great service and price! One little suggestion: Don’t sit near the door. It might be difficult to shut or whatever I don’t know, but people coming and going out seemed to never be able to close it nicely, and cold wind came in when it swung open a few seconds later.

Wow. Only had the chai and jalfraizi fries but both gorgeous 💕 will be back definitely for other dishes! Great place, good atmosphere and good service. Update. We went back for kebabs. They are nice but tho asked for spicy, they aren't. Had two different types and it was just so-so for us, but I think it depends on your taste preference. We came back again for more veg and it was a bit of a mixed bag. Idli was a bit disappointing, quite hard not pillowy like I am used to and the sambhar was quite bland, the chole bhature was really nice tho.

Regularly order take away from here.. always consistent and really great food.

We absolutely love the food from Mommas! We always order off uber during the week atleast once or twice a month as its buy 1 get 1 free and it's completely worth it. Normally businesses who dona deal make the portion sizes smaller but Mommas don't! We have ordered the chicken tikka before and tonight it is chicken tandoori. We have ordered today so will upload photos!

You need to understand that even those that order food on Saturday afternoon could be food experts, not that you need to be an expert to tell that the chicken has been warmed up and dry, chips are chewy and old, nan bread god knows when it was made!! It is extremely disrespectful to charge the full price to sell food that could have gone in the bin. First and worst experience.

Lovely menu and more available on the restaurant menu than online. Delicious food and excellent, friendly staff.

Can't comment on any other dish except pav bhaji....which was excellent....as good as the ones I've had in Bombay... definitely recommend the pav bhaji...next time will try other stuff....good value, BIG portion and great service.

Ordered online as they were offering a 2 for 1, got the Tandoori chicken with fries and Hariyali kebab. First off, don't order the special sauce if you can't handle heat like me. It's HOT Tandoori chicken was lovely, salad was perfect too, fries nice and crispy with sensible salt on them. The Hariyali was hot but it came with some yogurt thankfully. Naan was nice and warm and yummy too. Portions of fries were a bit health conscious but they were done perfectly. Just watch out for the special sauce if you can't handle the heat!

Highly recommended! Freshly made food daily. Forget all these other restaurants just warning food up. You can really taste the difference. Highly recommended the mixed grill served on a bed of rice with onions and peppers.

Delicious Chicken Tikka kebab, good size portion. Friends had jalfrezi curry and biryani both said were great and everything felt very authentic homely cooking.

Booked a table for 18 people, the service we received was amazing. Very helpful and friendly owner and staff. Decor is gorgeous. Tried out the mix grill platter, curries, biryanis and the chai. All of it was delicious we had a lovely afternoon at Momma's Kitchen. Thank you so much x

Portions were far too small. They looked a decent size until I saw that it was 80% chips. Food was tasty just not enough of it and naan was undercooked. Won't be ordering again.

First time here tonight, it was recommended to me. I must say the food was out of this world so so tasty, so many different options to choose from. Everything we had was so full of flavour, beautifully presented, all the staff even kitchen staff so friendly. Love how you can see your food being prepared. Very welcoming, warm, cosy dining area. Definitely recommend eating here and will be back soon, thanks for the amazing food 😊

Tasty food, really well priced, great service

We are from the breakfast/brunch menu and everything was delicious, if food gave warm hugs this would be it. Left feeling very satisfied and happy. Can’t wait to return to sample more delights from the menu.

What a find! You can't get more authentic than Momma's Kitchen. Everything is made to order and cooked in front of your eyes within the open kitchen. I went for the Chicken kebab, which came with freshly cut salad, fries a fresh naan and the Chicken Tikka. My partner went for the Paneer kebab. We also had a side of the Mogo chips. If I could leave 6 stars I would. The Mogo chips were an ample portion and tasted just like how my own mother would make them. It's very hard to find a food place where everything is cooked fresh and this is one of those places. I highly recommend visiting Momma's Kitchen. There were certainly no corners cut in everything we had to eat. I can't wait to try some of the other things on the menu.

Amazing food, amazing service and amazing prices!

5 of us went to eat at this place having heard good from other people however the portions are very small and overpriced and the service was awful I wouldn't come back to eat here as the food was not tasty as I thought it would have been.

Visited this restaurant today and food was delicious - it was full of flavour - there wasn't a dull bite. The only reservation I would have with the food was the lamb karahi had more peppers than lamb pieces. Staff were friendly, seemed good humoured and honest. They came round to make sure we had everything we needed and this included (I'm pretty sure was) the chef from the kitchen. Decor was lovely - the blend of yellow and black was warm and welcoming. It would be good to have more tables so in the meantime be sure to book a table! One downfall of the evening was when a group of musicians came in - I found it loud and personally an interruption to our conversations. Fortunately, the owner asked them to leave quite quickly.

Totally disappointed with the food,pity it wont let me leave zero star review, called restaurant 4 times to speak to manager to give feedback but he was too busy to speak to me, he assured me he would call me back in an hour which never happened. DONT TELL A CUSTOMER YOU WILL CALL THEM BACK IF YOU AINT GOING TO CALL. Total disappointment !

This is a hidden gem serving Authentic Indian food and fusion of Indian and Western cuisine. On examine the lunchtime menu looks even more interesting with typical Indian Street foods on offer. The restaurant is very small and cosy with welcoming staffs. A booking is a must. It has excellent interior decor with good facilities but very limited number of tables. The food served was excellent with Authentic taste, freshly cooked with visible kitchen and homely dishes. The dishes served were generous portion and good for value. No alcohol served. Highly recommended. I can't wait to try the lunchtime Street Food.

Amazing food, great service and caring and lovely staff. This is definitely our favourite restaurants of all times. The flavours of food are simply the best. It’s caters so well for vegetarians and meat eaters. We as a family live the food. We have been going here many times and as a family including children have always have brilliant meals.

Those reviews giving 5*? Probably friend with the owner. Sloooow service, slow to clean our table, slow to take our order, slow to prepare any food: we waited for 50’, still no food. Other people gave up before we did, but we did leave and took the food in a box. The paneer was as dry as the desert. The chips were precooked. Decent naan but too greasy.

3.5/5 Nice curries, friendly service from the manager, I recommend the rasmalai milk cake and Indian teas. Knocked off a point due to very small portion sizes - £10 for each mains but very small amount (more masala than meat/paneer). Knocked off half a point as ‘kuchumber’ was basically sliced cucumber with a sprinkling of spices - disappointing and lacking flavour

Excellent food and great service

- Staff seemed to be preoccupied - no waiter only kitchen staff present - salt lasi was laden with too much salt returned it - asked for tap water only bought 1 glass when there were 2 guests - staff distracted but focused - bought tandoori roti while we were still on starter 15 minutes before any curry dishes so was cold by the time ate it - completely forgot rice order - bought it at end of meal when we were on last spoon of curry so what were we supposed to have the rice with? They apologized for delay - still no waiter/waitress only kitchen staff doing the waiting - finished meal, didn’t ask us if we wanted dessert or coffee - first visit was great good food and service , this 2nd visit will be our last felt invisible - staff too focused on a big order totally neglected us and forgot items etc - hugely disappointed paid £30 for terrible service

Lovely place. Liked how the kitchen was on display and you could see them working. All the food was very nice and tasty.The staff very attentive and friendly. would definitely reccomend.

Mommas Kitchen is a hidden gem in Leicester - it’s lovely family run business tucked away within the Stoneygate community. The staff are all so friendly and accommodating and you can tell they all work really hard to try and give you a welcoming experience. We had the korma, jalfrezi & lamb curry - all were completely divine & fresh. Flavours were spot on! Will be recommending for sure & can’t wait to be back. Thank you x

We had take away for dinner few days ago and I would say it’s absolutely amazing for their chicken tikka masala and biryani. The spice of biryani is strong and spicy which is my favourite dish. We definitely come back to this shop one day for another dinner xxx

Momma's Kitchen is nestled among the cafes and boutique shops on Allandale Road. The restaurant is a hidden gem serving a lunchtime and dinner menu. The lunchtime menu is served until 5pm. The lunchtime menu is a reduced menu but don't let that pit you off there are many dishes to choose from including light bites, burgers, and barbeque kebabs and specials. It doesn't include curries or Biryanis. Nitin, owner of this son and mother team (the Momma in Momma's Kitchen) Was a really nice, friendly and genuine individual. He explained that everything served on the menu was made with an authentic home style taste. We ordered a combination of light bites and items from the grilled section. The tandoori and cheese toastie was full of tandoori chicken each bite guaranteed to have a generous amount of brilliantly spiced chicken. Would make an ideal light lunch item. We also got the grilled lemon lamb chops. These were amazing. The spices of the marination and the distinct zingy lemon flavor were made for a very unique flavour. The lamb chops are highly recommend and are cooked to perfection. We also got a chicken tikka grilled kebab on a naan with salad and chips. Again the spices on the chicken tikka were on point. For dessert which I would highly recommend we had Rass Malai milk cake which we shared. We also got karak chai which I think absolutely amazing the tea was very flavorful and wasn't over sweetened again would highly recommend this to conclude your meal. Overall we had a very good experience and would recommend this hidden gem. It's not like other Indian restaurants in Leicester and the seeking point of this establishment is the home style dishes along with a brilliant customer service.

I have to say the dishes sound wonderful and look wonderful but that's where it ended. The food ordered was dry and the chicken was tough from being over cooked. The fish was too salty and the portion was simply tiny. Very underwhelming and I am soo disappointed. The only plus side was when I made the phone call to specify my notes and the gentleman was very friendly. There are steps to the entrance, therefore not suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Nice little place, friendly service but extremely slow considering there was no other customers there when we arrived. Indian breakfast very average, chicken toastie nothing special. Tea and hot chocolate was good, this place really needs something extra to make it stand out from the crowd which i dont think it has.

Tried the daytime menu and was a pleasant surprise. Loved the toasted tandoori chicken sandwich. Not tried the full curry menu but daytime snack were good for the price.

First time I went here with my family for brunch. Amazing flavours of pure desi homemade cooking. Lovely little spot. The food is amazingly fresh and I can't fault it. The masala Chai is the best I've had in a long time way much better then chaiwala or other outlets. Definitely recommend you won't be disappointed!

The food we had was nice, but nothing special or different tasting. Well marketed and presence on social media. but a poor customer dining experience. Had to give one star to write this review but zero stars would have been more relavant. Poor management/staff and quality of food is bang average even though the owner claims to have been in the *food industry for 15 years*. Would not reccomend, I very much doubt we will be returning here. Better of going to somewhere like saffron street which is 100 times better.

I was extremely disappointed having travelled all the way from Loughborough to collect my food. The chicken jhalfrazi was ok, that’s about as positive as it gets. The sheek kebab was thrown straight in the bin, it’s was burnt (I mean seriously not fit for consumption) and I wasn’t about to take any risks, someone in the kitchen must be responsible for quality assurance, I would be ashamed to serve what I received. I also ordered the wings online but was told it was unavailable (to be fair I did get a call). There is nothing authentic about this place, when I asked for some mint sauce for my sheek keb, it came straight out the shop bought bottle, it’s those little touches which you expect having paid a premium for the meal. The wings were dreadful, literally everything went in the bin apart from the chicken jhalfrazi, I eat this and it wasn’t bad, but nothing to write home about. Needless to say, I made a quick trip to McDonald’s as soon as I got home to rapidly try and salvage my evening. I wish the team all the best but this is way below the standard of average food in Leicester (and I’ve been to some poor places).

We went to Momma’s kitchen when we were visiting Leicester. The staff were so welcoming and the food was delicious. The chef made special gluten free Naan for us and a vegetable curry for us too. Thank you and we would highly recommend it as a restaurant!

Amazing food, very tasty. Ordered the chicken jalfrezi, jeera lamb with naans to compliment and the chicken tikka kebab all to takeaway. The whole family were really impressed with the authenticity of the flavours. Defo my new regular.

Our new favourite restaurant. Food was delicious, the jalFRIESi chips were amazing. We all cleared our plates! (That's a first). It's very cosy and comfortable with lovely little touches all around with a professional yet personable service.

Momma's Kitchen is a gem. The decor is lovely - cosy chrome and bold black accents make for a sophisticated experience. The food is surprisingly contemporary (think omelettes wrapped in chapatis and clever burger combos!) and yet anchored in solid traditional techniques and flavours. The biryanis are beautifully cooked and presented and the masala chai is now a firm favourite of mine. To top it all off, there is a good range of sweets, desserts and coffees to satisfy the diner who just doesn't want to leave:)) Service? Just great! I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

We visited Momma's kitchen for dinner & everything about the place is brilliant. The attention to detail is second to none. From the décor, lighting, matching seats & cutlery, it shows a lot of passion has been put into this lovely family run restaurant. And it doesn't stop there, the food is amazing. Some of the items we have never come across. You have to try the Rasmalai Milk Cake...it is unbelievable & a MUST try. Thank Nitan & Momma for a great evening & experience.WE will be coming back soon for sure.

Whilst walking by, it was the aroma sneaking through the door that caused me to stop and take a good look at the menu. Existing dinner plans went out of the window as we returned an hour later for dinner. And what a dinner! The chicken hariyalj kebab and the keema bhuna were beautifully flavoured, and cooked to perfection. But save room for dessert as these too are an event! I'd certainly recommend the ras malai milk cake, though I'm keen to try the jalebi cheesecake next time. This place is a great addition to the local independent food scene.
