Normally we would say 'full 5 stars' as we love the place; but when we visited Thurs this week, [29/8] we requested a coffee & a fresh fruit mango drink [which is amazing!] Time 3.50 pm I was told I could only have the coffee, but as they were closing at 4.0 pm they were not doing Mango drinks, just their own. I was led to believe, and the website states 8-5pm! Curtly told that's it! Thank you very much young lady. One attitude spoiling what has been a lovely place to go. Are you always going to move your closing times during weekdays?

Visited for a late breakfast sat morning. Quite busy. Lovely pastries and coffee. My only critique is that you have to line up for coffee and they don’t take your name or no so It can lead to confusion! Fine for takeaway but perhaps they could have table service?

Lovely spot on Portishead Marina. Seating outside and in, overlooking the boats. This is a bakery and cafe and there are lovely fresh pastries and sandwiches on available. They have great coffee too. A great place to sit on a sunny morning and watch the world pass by.

Chose this over the Costa round the corner on purpose. Won’t be visiting again. The drinks (eventually) were nice and the pastries were lovely but the lack of customer service lets this place down. Staff seem entitled and unwilling to help or admit mistakes and instead want to make it the customers fault. Ordered drinks and pastries and went to get a glass of water but all the glasses were clearly not washed properly (I’m not fussy but they definitely had bits in from the machine etc and…you just wouldn’t want to drink out of them). I initially thought maybe they were used so asked if they were the clean ones. Met with a ‘yeah they are’ from the woman making the drinks who then offered us different containers. When I worked in a cafe I would have then checked all the glasses and maybe washed again…but no one did. No apologies for the dirty glasses…like they couldn’t care less. Hot chocolate and coffee was made. My hot chocolate was like warm at best (like a cup of tea you have forgotten about until the last minute and then have to drink it all in one go!) so I asked if it could be made warmer. Instead of an ‘oh I’m really sorry, I’ll make it again’ I was told ‘well…this is how our hot chocolates are made. If you want it hot you need to specifically request it to be hot when you order’ Umm…is the clue in the name? HOT chocolate…not ‘room temperate’ chocolate. I would like to add that I wasn’t rude when taking it back - I was polite and even probably apologised for bringing it back in the first place! It was like she was personally offended and unwilling to admit that she perhaps just made one drink a little cold (easily done!) but unwilling to accept any sort of responsibility instead seemed to be trying to make it our problem and advised me to asked that next time when ordering ‘you really need to say that you want it hot’. Staff more interested in chatting and talking to each other than making drinks properly or attending to the place and keeping things clean and tidy. Such a shame because it’s a beautiful spot sorely let down by members of staff with a very entitled attitude who clearly shouldn’t be working in customer service roles. Employ people who care about customers and you’ll see the place thrive! I hope the owners take note as I’ve realised after reading the reviews first on here that it wasn’t just me who left with a sour taste in my mouth after visiting,

Mokoko Portishead is a SAINT. The vibe, the ambience, the atmosphere is lovely although changeable as the diverse crowds. The coffee is low-risk; consistently lush in my years of experience… Staff are brilliant, even in the face of 'challenging customers' - customers who are generally well-practiced in the art of grimacing. Sure, I have to budget for a visit, but it's always worth it, and those fresh almond croissants… they take a luxurious few hours to get through.

Mokoko has a lovely location, great bakery, nice selection of product and loads of staff. Sounds like a good combination but what lets this place down is the staff. I had made the conscious decision not to go to Costa round the corner but support independents so gave this place a try. There was a small lineup that was moving along but when it was my turn, I stood there for a while listening to 2 staff discuss the points of cross contamination in great detail with no acknowledgement of my presence. Clearly, customers are secondary to having chats with your workmates. I finally said to someone who was standing by the till, "sorry to interrupt but could I order please" and was met with embarrassment ..... I am assuming by the look on the face that that was the feeling. I didn't say it with a loud voice and not with attitude but clearly with intention to point your the lack of CUSTOMER SERVICE. Come on people, if you want to be successful and relevant you have to look after your bread and butter....THE CUSTOMER. Really felt let down but suggesting that a team meeting in the morning by the Manager to remind everyone why they are there...to serve the customers, sell the product and make a good impression so they come back. Not so sure about the coming back in my case....besides, Costa is just around the corner.

Visited for the first time today. Despite what seemed like plenty of staff, general impression was there was not enough time to clean. Tables, floors and toilets were dirty. The sandwiches are generally good, except the “Jambon beurre & cornichons”, which contained mustard. When questioned, apparently this is “normal” even though mustard was not mentioned in the sandwich fillings. If I would have known before, I would not have ordered this for my daughter. For information, I am a resident of France and this is the first time I have seen this classic French sandwich containing mustard. I doubt we will visit again, even though we are in the area on a regular basis.

Great location and cool interior, loved going to this place more for the experience than the coffee (which was great btw) Not sure what has changed but along with other comments - your staff have always been your greatest asset - over my last few visits I’ve picked up vibes of being annoyed, arrogant and tbh rude to customers. Come on Mokkoko, stop trading on past glory and give us back your wonderful cool, chill vibes and I’ll happily pay for my expense coffee! Love from an ex-Mokokko addict

Not sure why so many negative reviews. We visited for lunch as passing through Portishead and it looked like a lovely spot by the marina. The staff were friendly and refilled our water bottles for us too. We had sandwiches that were really tasty with fresh bread and lots of filling. The carrot cake was amazing. We didn't feel that it was overpriced, a baguette, a sandwich, two hot drinks and a large piece of carrot cake was £22 and weren't troubled by dogs.

This was one of my favourite spots for a coffee in Portishead. A lovely view and atmosphere but it's turned into a disappointment since dogs have been permitted to remain in the cafe. I visited the other day and there were 6 dogs in a confined space. I wonder how hygienic this is in a bakery as well as a tripping hazard with not much room to manoeuvre, especially for elderly or disabled people and children. It's certainly put me off. Not as relaxing as it was. There are plenty of other places where people can take the many dogs that are walked around the marina and lots of outdoor space so why the change now I don't know. People still stop and buy a drink and cake in passing. I imagine with the high number of people with dogs pressure was put on the cafe owners. It's the nature of business, the please the demanding hoards after all but not all of us are so demanding and just wish for a simple relaxing place to enjoy a coffee and cake without so many people with their accessories, perfumes and endless pointless chatter (do you hear and smell it?) clogging up the space. Please, no dogs in the cafe. And what has happened to the cinnamon buns? Half the size!!

They used to have two/three types of sourdough bread with / without seeds (signature one was my favourite) but not anymore. They now offer only one (basic) type. When I visited them before Christmas the staff advised this was temporary due to Christmas menu but we are well past Christmas and they still offer only one type. What’s worse is that by noon all bread is gonne, clearly poor planning of production and really inconvenient for anyone not able to make it there in the morning. Overall, it seems like the staff have not been trained in customer service - they do not seem to care when produce are out of stock and not taking actions to address this in future.

I had waited several months to get a Mokoko , Portishead, surprise bag from Too Good To Go and was it a surprise.6 sandwhiches and one hard puff pastry, supposedly worth £21. They had lots of lovely pastries left at the end of the day and surely they were not going to sell them tomorrow. I was so angry when I got home, especially as I have had surprise bags from Greg's half the price and 3 times as good. Never again

Perfectly placed on the marina this cafe is great to ‘grab a cuppa’ and sit outside by the marina and watch the world go by. Fresh juice is lovely and coffees are good, there is a range of pastries and the sourdough sandwiches are well filled. Pre covid they offered a wonderful breakfast bar and salads, it would be great if this could return, as no where else in Portishead offers that style. Breads are all baked on site and kitchens are open to see the bakers which is a nice touch.

I went inside and was asked if I wanted to take away the coffee and pastry I was about to order. I asked if my dog was allowed and was told no, so I can’t review the food. As a number of google reviews stated the place is dog friendly I rang them to confirm. I was told the policy changed post covid because there is a greater possibility of cross contamination from dogs, since they are an “open bakery”. So they have updated their policy to an outdated practice. Won’t be patronising them.

What a great spot. Coffee is delicious, pastries are Devine. We grabbed a sough-dough to take home which didn’t last the day as we ate it all. Located on a beautiful marina and able to watch the world go by. I wish it was open a little earlier for coffee takeaways as I’d grab and go daily on my way to work

A great selection of freshly made rolls, sandwiches and cakes all baked on the premises and made as much as possible from local produce. All very tasty and well presented. We all enjoyed very much. Lovely setting on the marina side and a very welcoming atmosphere with great friendly staff. Lost a point because at the end I left my wife and grandson there to go and get something from our car. When she met me outside she told me that she had taken him to the toilet, leaving their coats at the table, but staff came along and cleared away half finished coffee and milkshake drinks even though the coats showed that the two of them had not left. There's enthusiasm and there's good service but don't overdo it.

Staff friendly latte was really nice, long wait for food near 50 minutes. Ordered the set breakfast 2 asked for well done eggs and bacon but one egg was snotty! Beans cold. Also ordered the breakfast set 1 and didn’t enjoy any of it, all over cooked! Shame but wouldn’t go back for food only for coffee. Wasn’t worth £25.00 and this included a refund of one egg.

A large area in Waterstones is occupied by this cafe. Lovely coffee and very good selection of cakes and snacks, counter service but very helpful with older customers. Great friendly staff and moderate prices - very popular with the locals.

Really good service from the staff. The food overall was good. The fish and chips wasn't as good as usual. Would definitely recommend.

Not overly large place so booking is advisable. Having said that, 4 of us turned up without a reservation having had some difficulty in booking a table ? However, the lovely guy at the desk shuffled things around and got us a table. What a great experience ! Chicken, beef, lamb dishes were amazing! Rice, noodles, potatoes, salad, pasta, fish, calamari, chocolate cake, chocolate fountain, gatuea, whippy ice-cream, array of fresh fruit etc etc ... So many choices! We were VERY impressed and have already booked a return visit ! Staff are helpful and polite and kept very busy ! We thought it was good value for money. £13 for children. £20 for adults ...evening price . I think a little cheaper on a lunch time ? All in all a very good experience.
