Moja in Derbyshire Dales

Don’t normally write reviews, but I feel like this needs one! 1st time trying and it was the best food I’ve ever tasted from a takeaway! Definitely going to be our regular.

Restaurant which has been taken over and I used for the first time in a couple of years. Takeaway food ordered and it was first class food,very good value for money.Fully recommend.

Excellent curry house. I asked for my food in a certain way AND THEY LISTENED AND DID IT!Spot on food. I've had takeaways and eaten in the restaurant and its always good. Sadly it's a little bit away from the pubs and bars in Dale Rd Matlock so seems quiet, but don't let that put you off.

We have visited this restaurant a few times over the last four or five months. The food has always been exceptional and as I am coeliac the staff have always helped me make the right choices. At present you can bring your own alcohol but they will be applying for a licence in the future. Definitely the best Indian in Matlock.

New Years Eve dinner with family was made extra special by a fantastic meal. Restaurant is small and currently not licensed but there is a lovely ambiance. Staff very polite and professional but the best bit was the food which is fabulous. Only fault was it was a little slow but it was busy and perhaps a little under staffed but this didn’t spoil the evening. We took our own wine and beer and they provided the glasses. Restaurant is now called Spice and is under new management and the license is being applied for. We will be back as in my opinion it’s the best Indian restaurant in Matlock currently

Really good curry and nice customer service, really enjoyed the food but just be aware they are not currently licensed - however they allow BYO.

Arrived later than was told, so a little colder than would have liked. Portions sizes good. Was tasty but not the best curry I've had. The chapatis were really nice though.

We ordered a takeaway from here whilst on holiday, chosen due to their vast choice of vegetarian choices. We were not disappointed; food arrived my sooner than anticipated and was piping hot and full of flavour.

Seems to have had a name change to Spice. Had a takeaway on New Years Eve. Delivery was an issue at the time as the wait was 2 hours but the it was no big deal to collect. First time using this place and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent and there was plenty of it. Friendly staff so will definitely be trying this place again, hopefully sitting in the restaurant next time.

We've eaten in the Restaurant a number of times and enjoyed good food, but sadly, possibly down to Lockdown the food delivery we had this week was terrible. The chicken tikka masala was pieces of burnt meat in tomato sauce. My murghi massala, which I've had in the restaurant was poor as well. Odd pieces of poor quality stringy chicken with some tikka style and some not. A major let down. All I can think is that restaurants are really suffering in Lockdown and are making cutbacks on quality to survive.

Excellent food, portions brilliant, taste n quality excellent from poppadoms to main course. Delivered right to our door! Won't go anywhere else.

The best curry house in the Matlock. Absolutely spot on every time. Bring you own beer so a lot cheaper than buying in a restaurant.

As others have said, this is now called The Spice. Had an underwhelming dine in experience here a few weeks ago. The food took a long time to arrive and staff were not very attentive. I think they were understaffed to cope with the number of take-aways, indicative of poor management. When the food did eventually arrive it was luke warm at best and the rice was lumpy. Taste wise, it was average. To top off, the food is pricy! There are definitely better options close by. I eat at a lot of Indian restaurants and this was the poorest experience I’ve had for a while. The only positives were the location and the decor.

We booked a table at this restaurant, arrived on time, totally ignored, 3 attempts to get attention we got a table. Nothing said to us, no menus given, nothing. 40 minutes later they muttered something to us and gave a menus. no drinks offered. came back eventually and took the order.With a little bit more muttering. asked for a drink 3 times. Nothing arrived. First course arrived, umm not enticing, we both had puri, which resembled a wet flannel! and was luke warm, it really was uncooked. I didn't eat it, Terry's was not much better. the main course was naga. mine chicken, allegedly, the most unrecognisable chicken I've ever seen. Did not eat it. Terry was starving and did eat his lamb naga. But not enjoyable. The staff have serious attitude of no interest or respect for customers.They are not in the correct job.We do not rate this Indian restaurant at all, other people did not look happy with it. Not much point in complaining on the night as the staff haven't mastered the art of communication, we therefore will never consider the place again!!

Moja is now called The Spice.n We ordered a takeaway from this so called restaurant and frankly a frozen Aldi meal would have been better. The chips were literally frozen numbers. The sauces had the texture and feeling of having been frozen and then reheated. The naan bread was oven made and not from a tandoor. The rice was non-descript with the lemon and chilli rice having a 50% accurate title. Of the 6 of us that had the unfortunate experience of consuming the produce of this establishment, 5 had bad bellies! On a positive note, the food was hot and was delivered quickly (must have a powerful microwave). I wouldn't waste your money or risk your bowels!

Now called Spice, not sure if it’s new owners or just a name change but the food was excellent. We collected our order and all the dishes were hot when we got home and were all delicious. Would definitely recommend a visit and will be back soon. Thank you to all the staff at Spice Restaurant 👍🏻

Visited on a Saturday evening. Had popodoms and pickle tray as starter and 2 veggie curries with rice and garlic nan for mains. Food was very tasty, good level of spice and not too oily. Service was very good, all the staff were friendly without being in your face. They're taking Covid 19 seriously and following govt guidelines. This was our first meal out since March and we both really enjoyed it. The restaurant is now called Spice but as far as I'm aware the telephone number hasn't changed.

Hi just to ALERT people who phone MOJA for a TAKAWAY ORDER. I went to Moja yesterday evening 6 / 6:30 pm, Saturday 16 May, to order a takeaway. While I was waiting for my order to be ready, I over heard the waiter taking order from a customer over the telephone.. (In Darley Dale). The Waiter had the phone on loud speaker, I overheard all the customer personal details, customers telephone number, name, address, payment details. When my order was ready a more senior member of staff brought me my order, I informed him that I had over heard all customer details and this was a breach of confidentially. Just Be Careful When Order From MOJA over the telephone. I Thought It Best To Alert People. Food Was Nice, but most probably, I will not go again, as evidenced they do not take customer confidentially seriously. ( I put a poor rating as customer confidentially is very important)

Missing nan and popadums from set menu. Phoned restaurant but only answerphone, never got a call back

Being a curry big fan you soon get to know whose good, and who is consistent and Mojo's definitely is. We've tried other local curry houses but they just can't compete with the great food from this restaurant. Fully recommend you give them ago. Waiting time can be high but that's due to popular demand.

Great food as usual, our favourite place to order from. Earlier than predicted which was great as we know how busy it can get especially on a Saturday night. Delivery driver was lovely and respected contact free delivery. Will be ordering from again very soon 😊

The food we had this last time was absolutely gorgeous, everything was piping hot the sauces were so rich and tasty the meat was tender. The nicest I’ve tasted around this area for a long time. Highly recommended.

Food was ok, not as good was usual as all the meat was overcooked so dry and grainy. Also wasn’t that hot. Order was correct though.

We ate here as it was the closest restaurant to where we managed to find a parking space! What a lucky find. The waiter was polite, friendly and attentive and the food delicious.

Food is always excellent, but when ordering through Just Eat, the delivery times are woeful

2nd time we have had a seriously late delivery, this one tops it off, food is very good, but when ordering through the just eat app the delivery times are erratic. This time i called the restaurant when it was 25 mins late, I was informed that the food had just left, we did not receive the food until 35 mins later, and as you can guess, the food was Luke warm at best. Last time we use the just eat app

The food was nice as usual, but one of the dishes was wrong. We ordered lamb but got chicken instead. We were really hungry so ate it rather than ring up and try to get the correct dish sent out but it was rather annoying

We love the food and it’s always lovely but today the service was terrible. Just Eat gave an estimated time for collection and then texted to say it was ready a little bit before this so we went to collect it. By the time we arrived it was about the estimated time but the order was not ready. The guy came and asked me about 4 times what my name was and kept telling me it would be a couple more minutes as they were busy (had one table in). Half an hour later it was finally ready! They should have just told us the truth - I’m guessing they haven’t even started it or some how managed to loose my order. Not impressed!

Order was easy. Delivery was made without any problems. Excellent food. Will definitely use again.

Absolutely amazing food with super efficient delivery service, I want to have it again tomorrow! Super tasty, spicy where it should be and succulent chicken, gorgeous naan bread and great selection of pickles, top marks.

Always a pleasure visiting the Moja. The staff are always friendly and food delicious. My personal favourite chicken dupiaza, not too hot with plenty of flavour.

From the warm welcome excellent service and succulent dishes, this restaurant never disappoints. The presentation, the portion size and quality of ingredients never fails to impress. The staff are great, not too intrusive but nothing is too much bother. Look forward to the next time. Would highly recommend. The BYO is great too, cuts down on a mid week treat. What’s not to like? Having been let down by one of the local pub/grub places we decided to order a curry. It actually turned out so much better. The food tasted fantastic, was well priced and there was too much by the end.

Hard, chewy (probably frozen) chicken pieces. Bland tasteless runny masala sauce. Soggy, soft popodums. Totally inedible. All went in the bin. Where's the respect for paying customers?

Delivery time was pushed back, also delivered later than told and very rude on the phone on asking why the delay

Best takeaway curry in the area

Ordered a take-away for 18 people on a Saturday night, for collection - everything about it was excellent. Placing the order earlier in the day on just-eat was great, the food was ready at the time we wanted, it was packaged up in a big box and all items were there. The staff went the extra mile to carry the box to the car and give us some complimentary drinks & pickles. The food was fantastic, a really good range of different dishes which were all very tasty... and the spicy ones were spicy which we loved. Would recommend.

First came across this restaurant earlier this year and first impression was good.so when we came up again for a break,we decided to go again and was not disappointed.the food was lush and service was excellent.the staff are always making sure the'customer is happy.I can't fault anything since we've been here.coming from Northampton and before living in London,Bangladeshi food is popular but moja is something a little'different and you can't help but enjoy the food.interior is very clean and tidy and we will be going there again the next time we're in matlock.

Just sat at home undecided on what to have for tea so decided wanted a curry so went on just eat and ordered from there and got to the checkout screen and realized I Had made a mistake with the address so cancelled it and panic so rung the restaurant and explained it all and put my mind at rest that it had been cancelled so told me to re order and I decided on collection and was told 15 mins

Have driven past this place lots of times but never been in, although friends have highly recommended it. Phoned about 5.10pm for their meal for two. Was advised that delivery would be an hour, which was fine by us.

We went on a sat night and had booked for a group of eight .There was only a handful of people in which was odd . The staff were very friendly but they forgot one of the starters then we were waiting for 90 minutes for the main courses !, when it came it was cold but did to we arrived at 8 and now it was 10 we just got on with it . The good was nice but were they just concentrating on takeaways ?

Beautifully flavoured and colourful food served by attentive staff. Curry without the grease; I came away satisfied both with quantity and feeling like I'd eaten pretty healthily. Will definitely come back again!

Whilst on a week's break in Matlock we decided to try this local Bangladeshi restaurant. What a find. Greeted by staff member and shown to our pre booked table ( in hindsight perhaps this was not necessary) for their Wednesday night special. Restaurant already busy, but not overly so as to distract from the attentive staff. Ordered our selection from their special 4 course menu. Good excellent and very beautiful presented. Good to feel that we were not overly rushed as secret a out for the evening. Staff remained aytentive, but not overly so, for the evening.

Visiting Matlock for the weekend and chanced upon this restaurant. The service and food were impeccable - I live in London where there is a huge choice of Indian / Pakistani / Bangladeshi restaurants - but Moja was better than all of the ones I’ve been to in London. An added bonus that you can bring your own alcoholic drinks .

Ordered from here a few times and the food is always really late. I usually order the same dish but when it arrives it’s different from the previous time. They offer you free starters on your next order to make up for it being late but you can’t choose them so assume they’re unwanted food from the kitchen. Will always go to Maazi instead of this place.

As I write this, it’s been 1 hour and 13 minutes since I placed my order. We were the first people in the restaurant. Two more tables have arrived since and they received all their food over 20 mins ago. I have just now received my starter. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the samosa is ICE COLD in the middle!! I am trying to find a waiter to complain about it but nowhere to be seen. I am so disappointed as the decor was nice and reviews were good, I was expecting so much more.

Ordered a takeaway, after 2 hours, still not arrived! When I rang to ask where it was I was given some excuse about 2 drivers not turning up to work and offered some more poppadoms, And to be told it would be 10 minutes, half an hour later still no food! We called back and they didn’t even know which order ours was and put us on hold! Incompetent, unreliable and evasive. Go to the shalimar or maazi, both local and both actually deliver your food! Ended up ordering elsewhere at half 10 at night! Won’t be returning.

We decided to visit for a new years eve meal after not eating at Moja for well over a year. At one time it had been one of our favourite Indian restaurants but then we had been disappointed with our last meal there. However, our meal the other night was very enjoyable, and they accommodated my request for a vegetarian variation without problem. It is also good that you can take your own drinks, at least you're drinking something you like, which adds to the experience. We will definitely be returning in the near future, hoping the meal will be just as nice.

The food is absolutely outstanding! By far the best takeaway around Matlock. I can only recommend to pick your order up as it takes 2 hours delivery every time we order and the food arrives cold ( I live 10 mins away)

If you require authentic Indian Bangladesh food of the highest standards within a warm clean environment with the best service this is your choice. A local who has tried them all but always we and others return to the mojo.

Me and my partner ordered a takeaway via just eat after ordering I got a text that our food would be 10 minutes late, 40 minutes later and it still isn’t here ☹️ It finally arrives 1 hour later and it’s cold. Won’t be ordering from here again.

We ordered via the Just Eat App. It told us the time our order would be delivered. We are quite remote. And true to their word, delicious hot food arrived at our door within an hour on a Saturday night.

Probably one of the poorest takeaways I’ve had from local Indian restaurants. Expensive for starters, the masala sauce tasted like tomato sauce, and not a lot of chicken. Popadoms were dry, and the pickle tray very bland with no lime pickle. Will not be using again

The food in this restaurant is excellent and very fresh. I have tried a few dishes from the menu now and all have been good. I especially like the Chicken Saag. The waiter service is also very good and attentive without being over the top. The front part of the restaurant is nicely decorated, there is also a rear part but I haven't eaten in there. The takeaway service is also very good. I will definitely be a regular visitor !

Made very welcome, nice poppadoms and chutneys, all freshly prepared. The restaurant was clean and pleasant and we parked right outside. Staff were friendly. The food was the best we have come across in the locality, I would be pleased to return for more
