Lovely food however first impressions nearly put us off! Grim sticky/dirty carpet up to the restaurant. Seen better days. Makes you wonder how clean the kitchen is?! Wouldn't take much to improve first impressions!!!

Truly a hidden gem. The staff was brilliant. They fitted in my family of 3 at 8.45 when closing at 10. The duck was succulent yet crispy. We ordered the special curry, plain chow mein, special chow mein and crispy fried shredded beef with no sauce. A fantastic restaurant and I have high standard, with a reputation of sending food back if not happy. I'm a highly trained chef and I was impressed. Don't judge a book by its cover is the key here. The decor inside is lovely, the dragon made from folded paper is fascinating. Do give these a try as I couldn't fault the service or the food. Thanks guys for your service.

By far the best Chinese restaurant ever, me, my partner and friends and family all regularly make visit here and we drive all the way from Sheffield specifically to come to China Rose ❤️

Very respectful, friendly, polite, exceptional service. Could not ask for better. Genuinely caring staff. Decor is astoundingly beautiful and atmospheric, pure Chinese beauty. The food was brought out hot and fresh extremely quickly, incredibly fast and was delicious and fresh. The spring rolls were almost literally heavenly, pure perfection. Overall we had a wonderful time and they were very helpful, caring and respectful to my elderly grandfather. Whenever I have the chance I will gladly return. It was worth my hype to visit it. Yes the stair carpet is awful and the carpet in the restaurant is not much better but if you brave it the food is good and the service is exceptional. This upstairs restaurant reminded me of the Chinese restaurants of the 70’s and 80’s with their tacky chinese decor and focus on feeding people well and fast and after a very long day exploring the Derbyshire attractions that’s exactly what we needed. It’s probably a 3 1/2 for the food as it was a bit bland on the flavouring, we didn’t get a lot of plum coming through on the Duck with plum sauce for example, but the speed it came out the kitchen was definitely a four and the two young lads doing front of house were definitely five stars. The restaurant was surprisingly quiet for a Friday evening, but the phone was ringing off the hook with takeaway orders, so the locals must like it.

Had a birthday meal here not long ago with a large group of friends. Staff went beyond and above to make our night special. Food was flavoursome and just the right temperature. Highly recommend the sizzling dishes. All in all we had a great experience and will definitely be returning when in the area 🙂

Very dirty and tired looking outside and even more so inside. Dirty table cloth and very dirty carpet our feet felt like they was sticking to it. The carpet to the stairs going up is just shocking. The food was average, the prawns in the chow main and the chicken in the curry was rubbery. Chips was OK salt and pepper but some other taste to them as well that i couldn't place.

Hey folks, you’ve got to do something with the stair carpet. We actually came in and walked half way up the stairs and actually turned around and walked back out. For those reading this, you actually have to go up a flight of stairs to enter the restaurant and unfortunately the red carpet actually looks black on the first 6 or 7 stairs going up. I read reviews and was really mixed about going in, which is such a shame since the reviews are very positive. First impressions folks - i’m sure it’s not easy to keep the carpet clean, but i wonder how much business you might be missing as a result of the carpets which really are very off putting. Sorry I can’t comment on the food, but i think if you can look beyond the stair carpet and dingy entrance, then perhaps you’re in for a treat. Hope this helps and not wanting to put qs the food or service down in any way.

Food was excellent and good service. Food was piping hot. Only three of us in but takeaway side was doing a roaring trade. The only downside was the entrance which wasn't very welcoming with a badly stained and dirty carpet. But having said that would definately go back. It is under new management so hopefully it is on the list of things to do.

Had a lovely takeout from them, walked in with a decent sized order, was done in 20 mins and tasted great. Will be back when back in the area.

So, little Chinese restaurant in Matlock Bath, staff were really nice and friendly, typical Chinese menu and the food was really good. The decor is a little dated and the stairs and dining room carpets are in dire need of a clean.

We were the only people there but the food was delicious and we couldn't finish it!

I ordered a takeaway meal. However when I got home the salt and pepper spare ribs which I had paid for was missing and not worth the petrol money or effort to go back Will not be using there takeaway service again anytime soon

Monday night quite, curry was superb

Only used the takeaway service which was efficient, well priced with generous portions. Food was very nice and a repeat visit is assured.

We were told that this is the place to eat by the guys in our hotel and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent. We had wontons and king prawn with satay sauce to start which was the best satay sauce we have ever had. The restaurant was a bit worn and tired but don’t be fooled the food was just excellent. The mains were very good too and the staff were fab… we would definitely go back ☺️

Came here 12 years ago & was very nice. Came today & the place needs a good clean & fresh pain work.. unfortunately the atmosphere was not good as there was a table with crying kids & kids iPads playing loudly, (use Bluetooth headphones). The phone was non-stop ringing but they didn't seem to pick up, so that was irritating, food not bad.

Lovely restaurant on the first floor of the building. Decorated with Chinese regalia to enhance the experience. Great service from lovely staff. Food was very average and the Tsingtao beer tasted very wishy washy - like a catering version.

The food my friends ordered looked and tasted great, really impressed! But the Deep Fried Vegetable with Sweet and Sour Sauce I ordered just wasn't it, and I was very disappointed with it. It was more of an appetizer than a meal. My friends were apparently really good tho, so would absolutely try again with something different the next time we're in Matlock!

Last night was our first time trying the ‘New China Rose 🌹 ’ restaurant, and it definitely won’t be the last! The food was up there with some of the best Chinese I’ve ever eaten! Chinese is my favourite! The ambience of the place from the moment we walked in was just perfect, it was such a nice relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a date night! The staff were very attentive, checking if our meals were okay, and asking if we would like more drinks, this is always a nice touch, rather than having to try and get the attention of staff! Nothing felt like too much trouble. This was a very enjoyable evening! They really do deserve to do well. I can’t wait to return! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Unfortunately, we've never even been able to try the food. First time we came was about 1.5 years ago, it was closed despite maps saying it was open. Tried again today, sent a message on here to book, got no reply, arrived to the restaurant at 5:30, they tell us there are no tables, fair enough it's a very busy day, ten minutes later we get a reply to our initial message on maps asking "did you still want to book?" We confirmed we do, then no response so I called and they went "errmm not sure I'm not the one in charge of maps, let me check... Nope, we don't have any tables" 😒

In the centre of Matlock an the first floor it's so nice to visit a Chinese restaurant. All very colourful,nice atmosphere and good service.Plenty of staff to help you ,no real waiting time and the food piping hot.I started with the soup then the king prawn curry,chips and rice and loved it.Just below you have the Derwent gardens,the river and the sights of Matlock.

We ate here on a Saturday evening before going to the illuminations. Service was excellent. Portions were large and value was great. We loved the authentic Chinese decor too. The location was perfect, and we just had to walk over the road to enter the Derwent Gardens for the illuminations. Well worth a visit.

Take away delivery regularly and always fantastic food and 5* service really tasty and fresh. Highly recommended will continue ordering regularly at Scarthin terrace! 😊

Awful food! Takeaway that took well over an hour to come and the food was terrible. Sickly sweet and sour pork, pork was chewy and not pleasant. Went for the chefs special meal but complete waste. Got a side of crispy beef again extremely chewy. £60 in the bin. One of the worst Chinese places I’ve had a takeaway from. Will not be ordering again

We ate here last night and were not disappointed. We’d definitely eat here again if we we’re in the area. Don’t be put off by what it looks like from the front, it’s honestly one of the best meals we’ve had in awhile.

What a find! Be warned it's a scruffy looking place, it could do with total redecoration - the stair carpet was held up by tape - there were hand written signs saying "Cash" (their card reader was broken) everywhere. But, the service was fantastic - a real family run atmosphere, chatty, helpful staff, and the food was brilliant - just standard chinese retaurant fare but made with style and taste - the satay sauce was, honestly, the best I've had. Regulars were constantly coming in to pick up take aways and were greeted by name and banter - at one point the cook came out of the kitchen to play "Happy Birthday" on the harmonica for a woman whose birthday it was! The whole experience was wonderfully odd but delightful, like we'd stumbled into some excentric sitcom set in a Chinese restaurant. We will be coming again.

Lovely restaurant. We ate in and the atmosphere and the service was great and the food was beautiful, would definitely come here again. We tried the curry, sweet and sour chicken Cantonese style, egg fried rice, chow mein and spring rolls, all were cooked to perfection.

Ate here mid week with the family as we were in the area for a few days. We were the only once’s in the restaurant, so was a little worried BUT, the team were lovely the waiter showed my daughter how to do origami which she loved. Fab food, good portions, friendly people. Totally agree with other reviews don’t be put off from the outside. Also the takeaway seemed really busy, either way would recommend eat in or takeaway.

Not from the area so when I come to new pla I’m very hesitant when choosing a Chinese…. Always worry that it won’t taste like one from home😂 This actually exceeded that by far, do not hesitate. You will not be disappointed. There is parking just opposite the restaurant and it’s coins only. 🫶🏼

Looks a bit tired from outside, don't let that put you off. The food was very nice, and served on the hot candle metal plate. Very friendly hosts and the food was served hot and in quick time. A tad pricey but it is the only chinese in town. Next time I'm in Matlock bath I'll be sure to visit.

This is such a wonderful Chinese restruant and takeaway. There is lovely Chinese music which is played onto the street and greets you as you enter up the stairs and in the dining area. There is a large dining area overlooking the famously busy Matlock bath. The menu is extensive and the food beautifully cooked and presented. The menu options tried were absolutely delicious and made to eat slowly and savour each mouthful. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

So, right, I struggled to find an ‘eat in’ Chinese restaurant in the area so settled for the China Rose. Couldn’t book online so sent a FB message and got no reply. Had to do it the old fashioned way and phone for a booking....

We booked late for a family of 6 and we was found a table. We arrived and was greated nicely. All our food and drinks were very nice all fresh and hot. Food checks done each time food plated out. We all enjoyed the meals...

China Rose used to be the exception in the Matlock area. The food was incredible, consistently great, the staff were amazing, it were really somewhere that was worth spending your money on but since the new management has taken over it has declined drastically. The curries are as runny as water and even after making this aware with the restaurant on numerous occasions by phone and being told they will “speak with the chef” alas this has not altered the quality. Such a shame as this lovely restaurant and it’s lovely staff once cared about the food it sold and it’s customers.

We had the platter for two and it was amazing! We made the mistake of thinking that £16 was for the whole platter but it was actually £16 each. I'll bring my glasses next time :-)
