Horrible food Horrible service. I've used this takeaway for years despite it going downhill. The food is now inedible bland or overly hot. A complete rip off. The man taking orders is often incredibly rude. He couldn't hear properly yesterday and got very snappy over the phone. The food is expensive with small portions. I can't use this place again.

Used to be an average Chinese takeaway (perfectly acceptable) Last two occasions have been almost inedible and prices incredibly high for the quality of food on offer

I've lived in Matlock for many years and have always used this Chinese. The food has definitely gone downhill it is either bland or stupidly hot. But it's the front of house man's attitude that is upsetting. He is incredibly rude on the phone, abrupt and very snappy. Not sure what has changed for him. I will use the one on Dale Rd now.

Used the takeaway service. Unfortunately the delivery service had finished as they close at 22:00 so we had to collect which wasn't a big problem. The owner is very friendly, food was nice and very inexpensive.

Avoid at all costs! Rang with a very expensive order and the man on the phone was so rude!!!! Went to collect our food and there was a black and white cat wondering round the kitchen and came partially out the front! The man quickly removed the cat thinking we didn't see. When questioned about this again was rude. Spoilt our evening by wasting our time.

Very rude on the phone to my sister while making a large order and when collecting there was a black and white cat in the kitchen and found a cat hair in the food when ringing up 2 make a complaint he was very rude and no help

The food is always of consistently high quality with prompt service.

Had chicken curry and chips was so dry, prices have gone up and portions have gone down, disappointing, don’t think I’ll go again.

Food was really nice & tasty, the beef Cantonese was a little hard but the sauce was amazing

I love the food and Tommy is always friendly and welcoming. For ages I almost always had the same food - but I have asked Tommy about other dishes they serve and experiment with different meals. It's been a revelation (not unsurprisingly!) and I now regularly ask for something different. Parking on Firs Parade is generally easy after 6pm so no worries parking. Order generally takes 15 mins from telephoning through. Always hot food and the prawns are always done perfectly - juicy and succulent. Takes a lot to get that right because you have to undercook to allow the heat of the dish to finish the cooking process. Kudos!

A very friendly welcome and exceptionally fast preparation. The food tasted excellent and the pricing was very reasonable.

A matlock institution, nothing spectacular but consistently reliable over many years.

Possibly the worst Chinese we have ever had, meat was slimey, chicken balls were hard and chewy, spare ribs tasteless and greasy, even the rice was vile! Avoid this place!

The old reviews mentions restaurant which indicates the reviews was for New China Rose business profile which is subsequently stolen by New China

We really enjoyed the Satay Beef and Beef with Ginger, and there was plenty of boiled white rice. The beef was very good indeed, so tasty and easy to chew. Quick and friendly service at the counter, and we didn't have to wait a long time. This is the best Chinese hot food in Matlock.

I ordered a Satay Beef, and my wife ordered Duck Fried Rice . . . We enjoyed the food, and these were good sized portions. The prices were very reasonable and the service was friendly and quick. The Satay beef and sauce was very tasty, and nice and hot. The quality of the food is first class. There was plenty of Duck Fried Rice, so quite large portion. The taste was just perfect.

Rang to ask if they do delivery. Answer no we don't and hung up. Very ignorant

Very expensive,tasteless and small portions. Duck chow mein £7.50 Singapore chow mein£6.70 Prawn crackers £2.30. Very dry with hardly any sauce. Had to add loads of soy sauce to make it edible. Won’t be back.😢

Staying locally while on holiday. Not sure if we are spoiled where we are from but can’t understand how this has got good reviews. We spent £30 on food and only got 3 meals and ribs. None of the meals came with sides included and even worse, these were served in the small side dish sized trays. Meals come in large dishes and include chips for £6 where we live, these were £6.70 with nothing and tiny portions. Asked if we get prawn crackers upon collecting and was told I needed to order. Again, this is normally a given in most Chinese that you get free prawn crackers, but not here even when spending £30. The Beef in Cantonese sauce was passable, as was the chow mein. The chicken in black pepper sauce was unlike any I’ve had before. It was just like eating peppercorn sauce you would put on steak, odd!! The ribs I asked if they were dry (which we wanted), the guy said yes but these were swimming in sauce. They were also just huge blocks of fat on the bone. Overall the food is pretty poor but more importantly the price and portions are shockingly bad! Seem to be money grabbing in all area’s. Left feeling like I’d been robbed!

Pleasantly surprised. It’s a while since we’ve used this Chinese takeaway as we were disappointed with the food last time. But it seems a change of owner has done it the world of good. Food excellent. Good quality meat cooked well and very tasty. Can’t fault it will be going back.

We’ve been ordering from them since we first realised their was a Chinese take-away in Matlock a couple of years ago. This is now our favourite place to get a take-away from as their food is fantastic! It is always the same lovely gentleman who serves us and we are never disappointed with the food that they provide. The price is on point for the quality and even though they only accept cash, this is not an issue due to a cash point being two doors away. Overall we would highly recommend!

Absolutely delicious food and the quality of the meat is top class. The price is a pleasure, especially for the portion size and the set menu for 2 is just so much food. Excellent value all round.

Food is ok. Nothing that would make you feel like "ooo i fancy that chinese". Chicken was very dry in the chow mein and the fried rice. Black bean sauce had a sweet kick to it which i didnt really like. Prawn toast was decent to be fair but i dont think ill be returning

Expensive, spent over £15 and they didn't give prawn crackers food was average. They should give prawn crackers for the price they charge v disappointed

Gone downhill since kennys retired. Over priced in comparison to surrounding towns. New guy on the counter wouldn't notice if you walked in on your hands stark bollock naked. He's no interest in having any other convo than telling you how much and bye. The foods standard imo, lacks the taste of fresh ingredients.. the peppers are pale and looked like they was cooked the week before.. and why never red peppers? Its not hard is it.. Will be taking my custom elsewhere in future anyway

Please bring it back it has been a family favourite for 20 years It used to be first on my list and I recommend it to all my friends

Never have I eaten such deliciously tasting chinese food on a take-away basis. There was a steady 'run' of customers whist we waited and I now know why: it was just brilliant. I would recommend anyone to order/eat from the New China! 5*

This is one of several local Chinese restaurants in Matlock. This one is by far the best. Great fast service. Excellent food no wonder it's popular. Out family use it regularly the beef curry is excellent. Hope this place never closes.

Absolutely awful!!! Never ever again!! The chicken was drier than the Sahara, warmed up out of the freezer!! Better going to Iceland across the road and save a fortune 🤮🤮🤮

Tam H in an earlier review says she hates giving bad reviews, but she has only given this one.!!!! Take it from me, I have never ever had a bad meal from these guys. Tam H seems like they have a lot of requirements and can't prove that a vegetable dish gives you a bad stomach. I doubt this very much.

Yuck! We were trying to get food from another local take away but no one answered, so we went for this one. They were polite on the phone. They tried to accommodate a gluten free lemon chicken by giving us two chicken thighs with mounds of peas and lemon sauce on the side. I ordered sate vegetables - they said they could do it; but it wasn't that - it was just mixed veg. Same for the pork sate - just mixed veg with pork. The black pepper chicken was uninspiring. I had stomach cramps in night and I only ate the mixed veg. Never again. I hate writing poor reviews but it was all for a family meal on special anniversary weekend away. We took a risk after looking at reviews and it did not pay off!

Looking forward to this all week. Have a takeaway once in every 6 months or so. Chow mein tasteless. Pretty much 95% plain noodles. Prawn balls - more like soggy batter balls with a little prawn somewhere inside. Chips chewy reheated inedible. Won’t be getting anything from here ever again.

Last used this takeaway 28years ago and the place doesn't seem to have changed one bit ! The food was Ok, with good portion sizes and tasty. The current food hygiene rating is 3 out of 5 so satisfactory. All in all an adequate mid week takeaway and what I expected.

Picked up a takeaway whilst on holiday nearby and it was nice!

He estado aquí unas cuantas veces y cada vez la calidad y el servicio ha sido impecable. Cada plato es preparado a un alto nivel. Las bolas de pollo son fabulosas y las porciones son muy generosas, no me puedo quejar de este lugar un poquito. El personal es encantador y muy amable y acogedor. Gran lugar.

Had a beef chow mein last night and I'm paying for it today. Very tasteless and greasy. First time I had been in quite awhile and I only went because the Cantonese Wok was closed. Would not recommend to anyone

We walked past this place tonight and decided to try it out. The food was excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the restaurant looked great inside. We'll certainly give it another visit when we're back in Matlock Bath. Cheers for an excellent meal. The Twins

First time using this take away. The food was ready very quickly and the lady serving was smiley and courteous. The portions were generous and the food delicious. My favourite were vegetable spring rolls. Will definitely go again soon. Wish they delivered.

£28 for a meal for 3 sounds OK ! 3 dishes swaped a rice for chips ! Would have worked out cheaper to buy individually ! I never moan but I signed up to trip advisor for this rant please avoid food so bland so so bland , lived in matlock all my life and this is the "pits" Cantonese Wok or Canton cuisine run rings round New China in fact your better of with Iceland (on the same street ) I only went because it was the only chinese open at the time ( I wonder why) BOO BOO
