ive been going here for years it is the best chippy ive ever been to the quality of the food is 1st class, thats why you will often find a long queue in front of you.

Honestly some of the best fish and chips I have ever eaten. Excellent value and lovely friendly staff.

Not realising that they would be closing early for Christmas, arrived as the lights were going off and the staff being sent home to enjoy Christmas. Nevertheless, they 'reopened' for us and knocked our three gorgeous fish and chip suppers for us to take away. Fabulous food, fabulous people - wonderful gesture. The spirit of Christmas personified. Love you all, ladies! (and any men who might have been slaving in the back...).

This chop shop used to be the place to go, sadly not now! The fish and chips we just had were dreadful. Greasy, luke warm fish with dry, hard bits, poor batter & chips just made from the scrappy bits of the potatoes. Will not be going again and not a patch on other chip shops in the area.

Large fish, chips & peas for two people to share, was plenty, couldn't eat all of it. Fish was fresh & light, chips crinkle cut as always, £12, value for money. Staff are so friendly & chatty, & even the other customers joined in conversation. Thank you, can recommend.

Lovely local chippy! The chips are amazing! We drive half an hour to come to get these chips! The staff are very friendly and chatty! Staff are really friendly and the prices are good! Cash is preferred but they have got a card machine now but the signal is rubbish! Had fish and chips and batter sausage and chips for £13

Possibly best chip shop in cromford when open there opening times are thurs 5pm to 8pm Friday and Saturday 11am to 8pm you are always greeted with smile and a chat the 3 ladies that run it are excellent service excellent and the chips etc are cooked to perfection deasant prices disabled friendly when in cromford a visit must be had

Greasy chips, greasy batter and a breaded fish cake that had an odd taste of curry. The chips were all smothered in black bits - like they'd been cooked in really old fat that hasn't been changed for yonks. Costly too for a meal that mostly went in the bin. Had we known we were so close to Matlock Bath we'd have gone there instead but this place was recommended in the literature provided by our holiday cottage.

Absolutely lovely fish and chips from Robinsons. They make crinkle cut chips which is an absolute fave for me because it is nostalgic (my late grandma used to make us crinkle cut chips as kids!) Portions are decent, I do think you pay a little more for your meal/get a little less than perhaps other local chippies, but honestly it is so worth it in my opinion!

Without a doubt the best fish and chips I have ever tasted (and this is coming from a family who ran a chip shop for 60 years). The portion sizes are absolutely perfect -- this isn't a Toby Carvery and you don't need an absolute mountain of food on a tray. They were cooked perfectly! The only criticism is the speed. I don't know how they prep for the 'tea time' customers so I can only comment so far, but we did wait an awfully long time for two trays of chips and gravy. Don't go to Habib's.

Take out only, but oh my good this place is amazing. Crinkle Chips (yes that’s correct Crinkle Chips! Only place I know that does them ) are amazing and the fish is also. I have never had a bad experience here. Staff are lovely. When ever I am passing and it’s open I will stop for Fish and Chippies! Don’t forget the salt and extra vinegar 😋😋😋 so worth a visit just check they are open. There is canal near by if you wish to sit and eat them.

I really cannot understand where and why people are giving 5 star reviews? I can only conclude that these must be locals that have never bought chips elsewhere. We bought open fish, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce. The chips were soggy, slightly undercooked and greasy. The fish was dry and the batter was too thick and tasteless. We won’t be going back anytime soon. Sorry Cromford, but you need a new chippy. Another point to mention, only cash payments accepted (in this day and age) and only opens 2.5 days a week. What good is that?

Looked on line for opening Times Thursday 5-8 So made a 25 mile journey only to find them shut no explanation or sign on door Very disappointed Will think twice before I do that again

The worst fish and chips we had ever tasted. Fish large was dry and over cooked under the heaters. The other fish, small was under cooked with. Staff unhelpful!! Would go elsewhere never return. Just to point out as as a former fryer, fish is always cooked to order chips should be fresh and good thick cut.

Possibly the best fish and chips I've had for a while. Always get haddock and chips but they had cod which I've never been keen on. However this was the best cod and chips I've tasted. Reasonable prices too. Can't fault it and will be back after our walks in the Peak District.

Quick service, great taste, but sadly the portions are tiny for the price!! Ordered a large of everything and was barely enough for one person. Really dissapointed.

Been wanting to come here for ages! Finally got the chance on a weekend away. I adore this place. It’s the very best of what a chippy used to be, and how the food used to taste. And the ladies were just lovely. Can’t wait for the next time!

Went here today. Been staying in the village and been waiting all week for fish and chips.. (only open Fri /Sat) Well worth the wait.. Matlock bath may be full of fish and chips.... But this is the best in the area.. Crisp batter.. Flakey moist fish and wonderful crinkle chips.. 10/10

What a lovely friendly place. I brought large chips and small fish for £5. There small fish is larger than most chip shops large fish. I couldn't even eat all of the fish. My 2 dogs eat the rest.

With rave reviews about this being the best fish and chip shop in the village (presumably from people unable to cross the road...), and with it only being open a few days a week, I had high expectations. The staff were lovely and chatty (and quite entertaining!), but I was disappointed by the menu (I've seen a wider selection from a road-side chip van), and found the crinkle-cut chips greasy and soggy, the fish over-battered, and the batter itself crunchy and overcooked. Plus, it was cash only, at the end of a pandemic when everyone has switched to contactless let alone card payment - added to the amateur, CBA vibe of the whole place. Maybe, as some reviewers suggest, the locals get a better deal, if so, good luck to them - we didn't return and found a much better option nearby.

Fish was really tasty, felt very fresh. Crinkle cut chips were also well cooked and tasty. Portions were good size and very good value for money. Note this place only accepts cash (and there's only one 'cash machine' in the town at the nearby Post Office which is actually a person, not sure a machine, so depends on if the post office is open).

We called here on Saturday after a lovely day in matlock and matlock bath,We thought waiting for 45mins to be served it had to be incredible...wrong! Unfortunately the chips were greasy and the fish was ok at best it seems if your local you get better treatment.. staff definitely seemed like they didnt want to be there! Not sure if this was an off day or what! If you do go and try this place be prepared for a long wait miserable service ohh and its cash only!

Visited on Saturday for fish and chips and took them to cromford wharfe to eat ,been a while since my last visit and the quality was as expected brilliant! This chippy is one half of an institution for me ,the other half being Kaths cafe. Anyone who enters either of these two and expects to pay by card is either blind or ignorant. Long may these two cater for the discerning eaters!

The chip shop was recommended to us and after our visit we would definitely recommend to others. We had to queue but it was well worth the wait. Great portion sizes and beautifully cooked fish. We had fish, chips and mushy peas twice with a sausage for our doggie and it was only £11, absolute bargain! The staff were so lovely too!

Bloody rude! Ok I didn’t realise it was cash only until the food came out . But the girl was extremely rude and carried on shouting her mouth off as I walked away! They must have many tourists that want to use a card payment! Is it too much for them to say cash only before you get served! Or maybe they have such sad lives that’s how they get their kicks! Extremely peed off!

A good sized portion of fish and chips at a very reasonable price. A little on the greasy side, but the fish was tasty and I enjoyed the portion of mushy peas on the side. Would happily use this chip shop again if I was in the area.

I have been calling in for my fish and chips now for many years. Must say, for me, they sell the best fish and chips I have ever had. Always a quality product, excellent service.

Called in for a quick fish and chip supper whilst on my break during an evening shift with the ambulance service. Served quickly and as always the fish was delicious. This is the best fish and chip shop for miles. Lovely friendly staff too.

I have been a customer for over 10 years and always found their food to be top quality. However on my most recent visit,the fish was really dried up as though overcooked or had been left on the hot shelf for a long time. It was inedible. I should have returned to the shop straightaway,as I was only at cromford wharf but unable to as was running late. So today I was merely bringing it to their attention in a polite manner. Their response was very defensive, implying I was lying and their manner very abrupt. According to them,the customer is NEVER right. One of the staff slammed the cost of the fish on the counter (£3) and refused to serve me fish ever again. I never asked for a refund,nor expected it - only wanted to bring to their attention on that occasion,the standard wasn't up to their usual. Obviously I won't frequent this establishment ever again and would advise others to be wary if you dare to make a complaint

Friendly staff and good pricing. If you want to share a chips, you'd need a large portion. A large chips and two small cod between 2 of us was the perfect size.

Portions were flimsy. Large chips were not generous and the fish was extremely soggy. The pie was the best bit and even that was low on meat. Slow service and staff were basing prices on how well they knew the customers. More of a pastime than a business. Vegetarian options were non existent.

Been here a few times. Never had a bad meal or bad service. Staff have always gone that extra mile. We were camped a few minutes away and had run out of salt so they put some in a little bag for us. Always wrapped the meal really well as it's a few minutes walk to our campsite. Will definately be returning on our next visit to Cromford :)

It's OK... We'd heard so many good things about Robinsons we thought we'd give it a try. Charles in Matlock Bath is our usual visit on the bikes. Only cod available, but fish was good. Chips were the old fashioned oily style which we don't like. Prices are reasonable. But Charles has a bigger selection, haddock is always freshly prepared, not oily but cost more. We'll visit Charles next time.

Absolute appalled at the way I have just been treated. Stood in a queue whilst your staff stand talking twaddle to other customers, served everyone in the queue to then be told you’re closed. And not only that, but with an attitude as well. You might wanna crack a smile once in a while and work on your customer service skills. Just lost out on a big order because your staff don’t know what they’re doing and would rather gossip than serve customers.

Disappointed. Greasy, inedible chips, that we ended up binning. There is much better about such as the one in ambergate, or many in Matlock bath. This is nothing special.
