Had the best Chippy takeaway ever. Had so many options it was hard to choose. I had the BBQ pulled chicken with chips and Black pepper sauce. Well worth a try. 👍👍👍

We have spent the last week in Matlock on holiday and the Wellington was local to where we were staying. We visited Saturday night where we met with a friendly staff member who was engaging, firstly asking whether we wanted any fish cooked. Having made our order a local lady started chatting with us and it was clear from the trade coming through the door and on the phone that locals love this place. We both had medium cod and chips, with sides of mushy peas and curry sauce. The cod was the best we’ve ever had. The batter was delicious, light and crispy. The cod was tender. The chips were also tasty, not greasy and the medium sized portions were just right. And so we have come to our last night here and whilst fish and chips don’t feature often when we’re home, we’ve visited tonight for a second time. This time we ordered via phone which was answered by a a pleasant and polite member of staff. Again the fish and chips were of excellent quality and ready for collection at the agreed time. We’ve really enjoyed both meals and are so pleased that we had the chance to visit.

On a few days holiday up in Matlock and searched on line for gluten free fish and chip shops. After looking in Matlock Bath and not being overly impressed by the one place that catered for gf, we searched Matlock itself. This place came up so headed that way. Right near the top of of very big hill but what a fantastic find. Quite an extensive menu but just went for the fish and chips. Extremely busy with people calling in, orders coming through online and by phone but the small team of two worked very effectively together. Obviously very organised to keep on top of orders and I was super impressed. Sat and ate our fish and chips in the car and it was delicious, especially after a long day walking in the hills. I so wish we had something like this in my neighbourhood. Totally recommend this place, definitely 5*

Having read the reviews of this place we had high hopes when visiting the area but we were very disappointed with how greasy it was. Have had much better elsewhere. Think we must be spoilt with the great fish and chips in the North East

After coming from Ireland, at last real fish & chips. Unlike the frozen preformed & pre cooked 'fish' they serve over there. Mushy peas, gravy & beans not available in Eire either.

What a fantastic Chippy. Very high quality food which is perfectly cooked. It’s a 20 mile round trip for me but we’ll worth it.

Visiting the local area and had this the first night of our stay. Without doubt the best fish and chips I’ve ever eaten. So good that I’m walking half an hour there and back to get it again tonight.

We called for mini fish and chips last night. I had to wait about 40 minutes and when we got home I was very disappointed. One of the fish was cooked to perfection but the other one looked as if it had been cooked days ago. It was almost inedible; dried up, dark batter with little fish, compared to the other fish which was golden and fresh. The chips were ok and the peas but I wasn't keen on the curry sauce. I cannot understand why the two people in the shop did not see what a poor piece of fish it was. I will not be going again . I am local and will tellothers of my experience.

It was recommended to me but that was my first visit. The guy's behind the counter were friendly n helpful but I suppose the proof of the pudding was the lovely food. Will visit again.

Called and placed an order to collect at a set time, first time using this chip shop, arrived on time, greeted by friendly staff, food was ready, nice friendly chat, off I went. The fish and chips were delicious, peas were also very good, great value for money, will definitely visit again 😋

What a great Fish & Chip shop. The main fish and chips were the best we have eaten in the last few years. The batter was crunchy, but not greasy, and the chips were very good too. The owner was a nice guy too - very friendly! We'll definitely be back.

Far too good for my liking and my waistline. I wanted to give a poor review as I felt quite excluded when I was asked to wait outside for my food to be cooked to order, while both the regular ahead of me and the one who arrived after me were cordially welcomed and allowed to prop up the counter as they waited. Unfortunately the fish, cooked to order was delightfully fresh, with enough but not excessive batter. I am not a chip fan myself (it's all about the fish and mushy peas for me) but I feel cheated if I don't have a couple. And the choice of 3 sizes of chip portions meant I could order just enough to satisfy without wastage. Again cooked to order so no greasy mess. But the mushy peas! Oh! And oh again! Absolutely wonderful, with an unexpectedly almost smokey flavour. My waistline demands that I not indulge too often, but as soon as my jeans fit comfortably again, I will be treating myself to another climb up the hill.

Ordered over the phone at 5.50pm. Told us it would be ready at 6.35, so got there then. For social distancing reasons I obviously had to wait outside, but food wasn't ready until 7. Fish and chips were good, but I won't be going back if they can't manage their orders to be ready on time.

I wish I had discovered this place sooner. The food is outstanding. Excellent portion size and value for money , but more importantly, delicious.

Easily the best Fish and Chips in Matlock. Everything cooked fresh and a wide selection of things.

Nice little fish and chip shop with a small but interesting menu. We had cod and chips and it was delicious and fresh. Check opening hours as they do not open every day. You can call ahead to order food so you don't have to wait around for it to be cooked.

Traditional fish and chip shop, with good sized portions for the hungry at a very decent price. Food was cooked to order, and the batter was amazingly light and crispy. Cash only, no cards.

Don’t rely on this chippy. It’s Facebook page is begging you to use the telephone pre order system but no one answers. Also the advertised opening times are just guess work. I can recommend the Riverside chippy though.

We were staying at the Old School House B & B, Uppertown, we were recommended to try the Wellington Street Fish shop. We found it quite easily, parked up and went in. Good selection on the menu and it was freshly cooked to order. Excellent and reasonable prices, would recommend you try it.
