Best chips we've had in a long time & we wat chips almost every day 😂😅 Nice chippy vibes & super lovely staff. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

I went with the family based on reviews here, it's halal and a clean environment. Friendly and accommodating staff. If you order drinks and pay for it, you take it out the fridge yourself. Large tables and atmosphere is nice, they also had toilets to use, which was very helpful when you have kids with you. After you finish you can empty the tray in to a bin. Across the road they also have an ice cream shop that sold fresh doughnuts and whipped ice cream. They also have halal fudge sold there. Aug 2024

Just visiting again nearby and was reminded a couple of years ago how poor the food was. The mushy peas were laid all over the chips and the fish which completely ruined whatever taste there may or may not have been to these. Maybe I just caught them on an off day.

Decent chips. Went at random time of day, so wasn’t fresh but they were and tasty.

Amazing fish and chips and it's Halal as well. Some fish and chips shops fry everything in the same oils which makes it difficult for people who avoid meat. So that was first thumbs up 👍. Then the quality of fish was brilliant. One of the best fried fish, it wasn't oily and batter was done really well. Overall experience was brilliant. The only Downside was price but I suppose at busy tourist location you expect to pay a bit more.

Extremely friendly staff, we came in right before closing time and they cooked our food and brought some tables outside for us to wait. The food was delicious!

Went for dinner with friends around 8:30pm (all other places were closing for food). It went above our expectations. The food was great and the service is amazing! They are absolutely friendly and go above and beyond for customer service. All the good reviews are true. 10/10 recommend

Do not eat here!! The chips were freezing cold, the gravy had lumps in it and the service was APPALLING! When I approached the proprietor regarding the chips and gravy here merely shrugged and said 'what do you want me to do?' Very rude.

We went down Matlock Bath this afternoon and decided to try somewhere NEW! So as wed always admired the floor in the shop and it looked nice and presentable we thought wed try here. How I wish wed have stuck to the Riverside Chippy over the road! The Greek guy behind the counter was great and really chatty, there was no one else in the shop (should have been a give away) I personally commented on a really small sorry looking peice of fish and asked if that was a small one - He said hed just got some fresh ones out and would give us one of those. This is where things got - ughh - ... the fish was very oily and I thought it was myself at first - but the fish tasted Metalicay and smelt a little off ... as the Girlfriend ate hers, she found the same. We ate the chips which were a little underdone and the peas which were fine, finished our drinks and left. If the guy behind the till hadnt had been so decent Id have asked for a refund. Hate to leave a bad review, but on this occasion I feel it was warrented. EDIT AFTER REPLY: ... Wow Have you been drinking ?? Neither of us "Polished our plate pal" we sat in and were served on polostyrene trays, we didnt have any napkins and the fish was terrible which we both had picked at and left 90% of it. Then to call me a racist ?? You have some serious problems, although reading some of your other reviews, this doesnt seem to be something out of the ordinary for you. Im not entirely sure what you mean by "went out your way to see what the crack was" - but it appears customer service skills have escaped you. Dont worry, we wont be back.

Not busy, the first fish and chips restaurant in Matlock bath that I came across. £6 for a mini fish meal looked very reasonable so I bought it, average size fish, small portion of chips and I went for the curry sauce. I'm not sure if the fish was either cod or haddock, but it tasted ok, better than some I had elsewhere. Later I discovered that all the fish and chips restaurants in the town had the same priced £6 mini fish and chips meal. A sort of cartel?

Excellent food and customer service!

The place (plaice!) was empty. Every other chip shop in Matlock Bath was rammed. Was this an omen? Anxiously we stepped inside to be greeted by a friendly young woman. We ordered cod and chips and scampi and chips. Came to £16. It was piping hot and delicious. Excellent value for money, very clean. Never judge a hook (book) by its cover!

Haddock and chips x 2 today. Lovely and fresh. Good quality chips. Clean inside and lively seaside decor.

Went into today and the reason for a score of one is not the food that was fine it was the man behind the counter who i assume was the boss and the way spoke to the 2 young girls who were serving. I won't return to give my custom to someone who belittles his staff

Went in to day had chips and fishcake and a coffee the chips ware dry. And the coffee cup was only three quarter full I've heard of cutbacks but this is crazy won't be going here again but I do like the pictures of fish on the floor but try to remember people don't pay for dry chips and short measure drinks UPDATE Thanks for your reply it just shows what sort of business you are A very rude little owner who gives short measure's in every way avoid avoid this fish bar at all cost there's are better one's all down the road don't give your money to this rude little person

Great customer service very welcoming, clean facilities. Chips were the best I've had in Matlock (ever) not sure why Matlock has so many terrible chippys. Didn't have fish on this occasion but it looked great. Portions were a little on the smaller side but still plenty to fulfill my appetite, I think we have just got use to huge chip portions.🤷 Best of all the sell Rio! Stuff of god's 🙂 Will be visiting again. (And they had a onsite WC which again seems rare in Matlock, so great place to take kids)

Not too busy i thought id pop in for an early lunch last Saturday. Mini fish special i thought cheap and cheerful however i was amazed and delighted to be served fresh chips and fresh fish battered to perfection. Wonderfully tasty ....... turned out to be a real treat with friendly staff and parking right outside. As Arnie would say ..... I'll be back! Brilliant

ordered a cheeseburger meal, the burger itself was absolutely disgusting and the burger was solid…move on to the chips that are served with it wernt throughly cooked properly and to top it off a dead fly found under my chips at the bottom…spoke to staff that are in and no refund no apology all was said it has come through the widows where we are sat that are closed and you can clearly see it was buried under the chips. The staff on this particular day were rude and ive never been met with such unprofessional attitude in my life (1st july 2023)

Nice Experience at Matlock Bath Fish Bar. Halal Fish and Chips and Peter was so welcoming and answered my question if the Fish and Chips are halal before I asked him. Went out his away to show the box with Halal certified. Put my mind at ease and the fish and chips were the best if have tasted for a long time. Best Halal option in Matlock Bath.

Food is good staff are very helpful and hardworking Value for money

Had to wait approx 10m for 4 jumbo battered sausage and chips for 1 sausage to be missing so they had to give 2 small ones and 1 more to be both burnt and cold! Chips OK but not great, I'll try somewhere else next time I'm in matlock We visited on bank holiday Monday 10th April.

Fish and chips were okay and curry sauce was worst ever I had, pretty bland! Place need clean up more as food mess on floors.

The food was nice the portions very decent friendly staff but couldn't help but notice who I believe is the owner behind the till/coughing numerous times around the food and not even covering his mouth... Reply to your message... I didn't say coughed on my food I said around the food but this was once my meal was nearly finished. Can't be a hater from witnessing what I saw and saying the food was nice and friendly staff etc Maybe just be a bit more hygiene aware in future.

Portions were tiny, we had fishcake chips and small sausage x2 and it came to £18! Hair in the food, poor service by the male in there, came across as very rude.

Myself, my friend and our children stopped off here for some dinner after a day at Gulliver's kingdom. One of the cheaper fish and chip shops along the stretch but that doesn't reflect on food or service. My girls were taking ages to decide what they wanted to eat, they stood there waiting very patiently whilst they made their minds up. They eventually decided on chip rolls. An order of the mini fish special, a fishcake, 3 rolls, regular chips came to £10 which I didn't think was too bad. I asked for peas and curry with my fish special and there were no issues in doing that. The chips were good, not overly greasy like some chippies. Decent amount of batter on the fish and a decent size for a mini fish deal. All in all, I would go here again for fish and chips during a day out at Matlock Bath.

This fish and chip shop is the best in Matlock Bath. The young man who served us was really customer focused. The decor of the place is lovely and it's really clean. The fish and chips we had were fantastic, cooked to perfection. When in Matlock Bath again we will definitely be calling here.

The fish cake was dry also the sausage was dry too. Staff arguing behind counter as one wanted to go out . Not a pleasant experience at all . Decorations were nice but we will be giving this place a miss in future .

Halal fish and chip shop Really good price for what you get

Hot tasty fish, but chips rather strange. We couldn't tell why they were different and rubbery. Maybe the oil used? Staff were too busy to ask. Also the bill was expensive so drinks must have cost as much as the food We were not as particular as usual. too tired to make a fuss!
