This was our first visit to this carvery as we always go to the toby carvery at Whitewebbs Park which is set in a lovely country residence and is hard to fault. On arrival, we were shown to a comfortable table No 22 which is next to the window and gives you a nice view out. Our server Deborah was very pleasant and explained what the procedures are in place here due to the Corona Virus and invited us to go up straight away to the food counter as the place was not very busy at that time. We had to wait at least 5 minutes before the "chef" came out to carve the selected meats and then a second person arrived to serve up and plate the various vegetables of your choice and then our server then collected your plate and took it back to our table. I chose the roast beef and gammon and a selection of all the veg on offer. There was turkey available but it looked very dry under the heat lamp. Both meats were ok although the portions were very small and the veg dishes were not very warm and looked like they had been standing for quite a long time. The meal was just OK but I am not sure they can do much better in these troubled times. The whole place needs a make over which would help but the staff are trying their best which is a good thing. Perhaps we will return again in better times to see what improvements have been made, if any !.

The Pipe Major

15/09/2020: In an area not reknowned for its hospitable pubs and not over burdened with great restaurants the Pipe Major was a pleasant surprise. Staff were unfailingly polite and helpful. Food (fish'n'chips) was a decent lunchtime portion, fresh and tasty - and excellent value. Serves up a good pint of Hobgoblin Gold too. Worth a return visit soon.
18/08/2020: I've visited several times but this was my first visit since it reopened after the lockdown. Social distance measures were ok. We were asked to use hand sanitizer at the entrance and it was table service only inside. People were seated in their social bubbles. We were not seated near any other bubbles. I do love the carvery here so we both opted for a medium carvery. You no longer help yourself due to covid, instead they bring it to you on a plate. It's not really a carvery in my opinion and more like a roast dinner instead. Beef and gammon were nice but turkey was dry. The Yorkshire pudding was not very warm and again very dry. Veggies we're ok with the exception of cauliflower cheese which was undercooked and watery sauce, not very cheesy at all. In summary, it wasn't as good as previous visits but with the 50% off offer it was ok for the price. I'd be disappointed with the meal if I was paying the normal carvery price. I'm not sure I'll be back in the near future as I'm more likely going to wait till there's less covid worries.

19/09/2020: The steak portion was big, cake with chips and salad. I got the rib eye, and it was £23, sauces were £3.5, I opted for peppercorn. There was enough sauce for the steak. The steak was simple and had enough salt, and a good amount of fat. Ideally I would want to give 3.5, it would have been 4 if it melted in my mouth. Otherwise all good and would go again. I tried a bite of their mac n cheese burger and that was also nice. Can’t comment much as I just had one bite. But would recommend both.
04/08/2020: You will love this place if you are a meat eater. The food is amazing the ambience even better the staff bless them works so hard to make sure that you are happy. Definitely worth the wait and definitely worth a visit.
