Golden Fish in Barking and Dagenham

Ordered dinner got home it was wrong called and he was dismissive saying they will check the audio a call me back. No call back returned to the shop with the wrong item. Expected an apology was met with rudeness and conceit. Dismissive attitude. Felt like theft. Received what we didn’t order whilst they rob you blind.

Never ever go there if you are foreign. The owner is racist, only talks and welcomes white people in his Resturant. When I walked in, he did not even greet me, however he greeted all white customers. The food is overpriced and soggy. Absolutely disgusting customer service…

Way to overpriced, forgot I was even there waiting for my order when fish was cooked sitting down in corner. Very quiet atmosphere. Not engaging server. Dodmt ask if all okay. Chips tasted like they was from yesterday batch just re heated. I used to love it here. Not even the same anymore care more about profit than product.

As a local who’s moved out the area! Who doesn’t love coming back to your home town for a chippy! The best in the uk by far. My only request is to add battered mars bars onto the menu 🤤

We always go to this fish and chip shop if we’re in the area and the good thing is you can eat in , it’s a proper old fashioned fish and chip shop and the food is fresh and cooked to order , The staff are friendly and it’s so popular with ques out the door especially on a Friday night I’ve never had a bad meal here and would recommend we’ve been going here for years and it’s not changed , same staff and the same quality food. We park opposite in the car park so never a problem Eat in it take away There’s no toilet maybe read other reviews to see what people recommend .

Friday... 5:30pm... & a 15 mins wait for chips, that then ran out because everyone wanted them; who'd have thought it right, so another 10 min wait!!! You're a chippy... the clue is in the title!!! Shambolic; supposed to be fast food. Queued so long... outside & then in; still smell of fat 18hrs later!!! Rude other customers jumped queue; clearly always do this, & then got served as a preference because known there; appalling!!! Chips, as others have said, were tasteless... with the merest sprinkling of salt - a very small portion for £2.95!!! I see others have said the same; wished I'd seen the reviews first; would've swerved this plaice!!! Go somewhere else would be my suggestion, where they know what they're doing & care about having customers - no chips on a Friday dinner time... joke!!!

Very frosty reception from the lady serving, no smile and made me feel quite uncomfortable when ordering. Fish was decent but chips were very basic and slightly dry. Won’t be going there again purely due to feeling unwelcome.

I used to live by this shop years ago. It was the best fish and chip shop in the area. The food was excellent and the people were really lovely. Proper down to earth and old school if you know what I mean. I was visiting a friend and decided to visit the shop for old times. OMG it has not changed a bit. Food is still great and the people were just the same. It was stepping back in time. Well done guys. 👏

Wouldn’t let us eat in because we ordered 9 nuggets and wasn’t part of the “deal”, food was absolutely disgusting the savaloe was hard and disgusting the chips was soft and rank and tasteless the curry sauce didn’t even taste like curry sauce and the nuggets taste like pure oil, do not eat here if your from Dagenham absolutely appalling.

Best chips in Dagenham, without doubt

Recently visited this establishment after quite a period of time. Pleased to say it’s still quality fish and chips. First came here in 1977 as an 11 year old schoolboy and delighted to say still the very same high standards.

The staff are polite and accommodating. The food in today's climate is value for money. I would recommend visiting this place.

Worst fish and chips ever had in Dagenham. Portions were small, batter on fish was soggy and chips looked like they had been cooked the day before and then warmed up. Never again!!

Extortion prices. Large is more like a small. Staff are unfriendly and leave you waiting ages when they can see you clearly waiting. Not even an acknowledgment.

Excellent food with generous portions. My mum was visiting from Canada and wanted an authentic fish and chips which I knew they could deliver. There are a variety of options and I have never been disappointed. I will always recommend this place.

My Mother In Law wanted "Cod Roe & Chips" When I asked for it I was told 5-7mins to cook so the wait was on ! The staff were happy and always cleaning,chatting to the other customers and Generally making it a Very nice place to eat ! My only criticism is that the Restaurant Area could do with a bit of Modification to bring it up to more Modern Design as it seems to be stuck in the 80's when I first started eating there ! But the food is always very good. I would definitely recommend that you try them ! 😉.

Terrible food, soft fish and no salt added as requested. When I informed the day manager, only an weak apology. In a time of hardship no individual including themselves, would be happy to pay £9 plus for food that is unacceptable and undressed as requested. This is the second visit I have found the quality of the food to be poor. Will NOT be returning EVER. The mature woman serving did not listen to my request and is taking card and money payment then immediately serving food with the same hands. Such poor hygiene practice is worrying and I am certain the council would not be pleased that is how food is being processed. Google what is the phone number for Barking and Dagenham Council?

I always thought that a potato was a potato and a chip was a chip , well not if it’s from this fantastic fish and chip shop . Why waiting to collect an item I purchased on marketplace place , myself and my workmate took a detour to get a quick something to eat , look I said “ there’s a chippy over there “ . Ok it might have only been a couple of bags of chips that I ordered but wow , I have never tasted better chips in my life , my workmate was of the same opinion. Usually when I have eaten a portion of chips I feel bloated and get a unpleasant aftertaste of fat/ oil , not here the chips were cooked perfectly and tasted absolutely sublime. Nice size portions , great friendly service , definitely be back to try a nice bit of rock eel and cod next time. Seems crazy getting excited over a bag of chips but believe me , they were out of this world.

!!! 😳??! Well I don't know what I witnessed, can't see how this place has won awards??! Customer service wasn't great, they moaned when we went to sit down. There are no toilets or washroom facilities, so make sure if you're going to wash your hands before you go, or don't even attempt to go if you have kids. The decor looks like it's seen better days! And they charge more than 100% to sit in! Shocking!

Rude staff. Huffed and puffed at our friends who wanted to sit down to eat.i got charged almost double for a portion of chips sitting down compared to takeaway price, was told vat which i thought was 20% not 100. Very condescending response when i mentionned this afterwards, was told something about school kids being in there and a flat price!

Ate in there tonight, food was ok. Service was absolutely terrible. Was totally rude. Asked to sit down and they huffed and puffed. Will not be eating in there again.

Food is generally good, however unfortunately they have a habit of closing early, well before their advertised hours. Two times in the last month I have turned up to get a takeaway for dinner to find they've already closed up early. This Saturday evening (!!) I went at 8:40pm (they say they shut at 9pm) to find the door already locked and staff inside sweeping floors/cleaning up etc. Real shame, as I can't trust that they'll actually be open when they say they will be. Business must be extremely good for them to regularly close before end of business hours...either that or they're just lazy and want to go home early. I would suggest they need to change their stated business hours to reflect when they're actually open.

Had takeaway for 4 people. Fish was all cooked fresh for me and the chips were freshly cooked. However, the new parking regulations will make customers reluctant to visit this take away/restaurant as you will have to pay if more than 10 mins. Obviously it's the same for all the other small business in that area. They will all lose trade.

Sadly disappointed. Although the cod was ok, it was fairly small and at £8+ I thought expensive. What really spoilt it for me however was the 'saveloy'. Which was dried and hard. Saveloy's are soft sausages and that had either been cooked incorrectly or was from last week. Either way, despite recommending them to someone last week who said the fish was awful there, I won't be going back again.

Was working nearby, went for Cod and chips and I must say it’s the best I’ve had in years. Service was quick and efficient.

Queued last thursday for the shop to open 10 minutes late, with other patrons stating that they are often late in opening. Gave the benefit of the doubt as i had fond memories from eating here as a child. But once we were inside we were informed that nothing was cooked? Surely if you open at a certain time every day youd have something cooked and ready to serve?

Ordered fish and chips from them and asked if the chips Could be put back in fryer as I like them a little crispy, The answer was NO it’s not necessary and we have the best chips around!! And this was said quite arrogantly and hostile!! It may just be a snack bar and not a restaurant but I think it’s important to listen to the wishes of a customer. It wasn’t busy and there were 4 people working. After tasting the chips and fish I was really unimpressed with the quality, soggy and hard chips, no colour and fish not hot , just warm and batter not how I remembered it. The quality of the food and customer service is shocking.

Usually very good quality, however today ordered cod and chips and cod on its own, while the chips was hot and fresh , both cod was soggy, and just warm, I was given the last 2 in the cabinet and seems to have been there for quite a while, myself and wife could not eat it and do discard it Very disappointed, just chips for dinner

The fish and chips here are probably the best I've had in ages - and it's all in the consistency. Golden has never suffered an off-day on any of the times I've wandered past and that's why there's always a queue of hungry people waiting for that crisp, golden slice of crunchy savoury goodness, particularly when it's cold.

Always friendly staff. They will generally cook you a new piece of fish if requested.prices are about the same as everywhere else. I haven't found a small bone in a piece of Cod for a very long time, and the batter is delicous. The chips are, though not cooked brown; are just as nice. I used to eat inside, instead of just take-away, but I've got too big now for their tables to accomodate.

Very good. However it opens an hour after the Pie and Mash place just a few feet away, and if you are a shift worker that hour does decide where to go for food before going to work. Maybe opening the same time would help their trade a bit more?

What you'd expect from fish and chips. It's difficult to get the fish cooked correctly as they tend to go soggy quite quickly, this has been a pleasant experience. The fish was soft and flaky on the inside which enhanced the flavour of the batter.

Food was edible but not enjoyable the portion sizes were to small the food was basic there are much better fish and chip shops in the local area shocked by other peoples reviews we won't be back or recommending them to others.
