Great chippy, quality food at a cheap price, friendly owners as well, been using this shop while working away will be back

What a lovely experience! Everything on the menu was delicious, the lovely people went out of their way to even batter us some sweet treats! The food and the customer service was all lovely! Delightful people, delicious food in a quaint traditional chippy with personality. 50 years strong for a reason, highly recommended! Thank you :)

My mum and I stumbled upon Seahorse Fish Bar one afternoon while visiting the NHS clinic nearby, and we’ve been obsessed ever since! That irresistible smell of freshly fried chips covered in salt and vinegar on a cold day drew us in from down the street. From the outside, the shop doesn’t look like much, but as soon as we stood in the queue and saw someone else’s cod and chips being wrapped up, we both looked at each other and knew it was going to be fantastic. And wow, it lived up to every expectation! This is about as traditional British fish and chips as you could hope for. The moment you take a bite, you can taste the care and quality that goes into its preparation. The cod was cooked fresh, hand-battered right in front of us, and came out with a perfectly crispy golden batter encasing hot, moist, and flaky fish. The chips were just as they should be: soft, fluffy, and with a light crunch. We took everything to the park around the corner to eat, and honestly, it was one of the best fish and chips I’ve had since I was a kid. These days, so many places cut corners, and it shows. Prices keep rising while quality keeps dropping. We’ve actually stopped going to most of the chippies near us because they just don’t measure up anymore, but Seahorse Fish Bar is a real find. The owner, Andy, is such a lovely guy, friendly, welcoming, and clearly passionate about his food. His wife, Carol, wasn't working that day, but one of the members of staff, Sue, was there and she is lovely as well. He mentioned they’ve been in business for decades, and I can see why. You can tell he genuinely cares about the quality of the food he’s serving. And the prices? Unbelievably reasonable. Especially since where I live, a regular cod can cost up to £12, and it’s not even close to being this good. We live quite far away, but we’re so hooked that we’re making it our regular spot and will gladly go out of our way to come here. Just a heads-up on the parking: the council has made it a bit of a nightmare on this street, which is really hurting local shops. Most roads are resident parking only, but we eventually found free parking a few streets away down a road called Haskard Road, just off of Parsloes Ave, about a 5-minute walk. It’s worth every step. Hope that helps people who are looking to drive here easier. I never leave reviews, but I felt Seahorse Fish Bar truly deserved one, so I made an account just for this. We've been here three times now after our clinic visits, and now that the clinic visits are over, we’ll still be coming back just for the food. Fish and Chips day I ordered fish and chips the lady grabbed something looking like sausage in batter by hand from hot cabinet and put on my chips.I said you can not touch the food and she said its normal.Just left the shop.

Only reason I’ve given 4 star is because it reserve 5 star for the exceptional and this place makes exceptional food - but only 4-5 times. Sometimes it’s very oily and seems a few hours old. But 4 out of 5 times it is simply the best fish and chips shop in Barking and Dagenham. I get fish and chips from this store and then one from East Ham without knowing that the one in East Ham was also owned by them and they obviously have the same recipe still. Highly recommend this place.

Good little hidden gem we found today while out walking with my 3 boys. Lovely large portion of cod and chips with plenty of salt and vinegar. Welcoming and friendly staff. Will no longer go anywhere else.

Visited this evening and welcomed by lovely owners/staff. Went for Large Cod & Chips and Curry Sauce. My food was Boshhhh i.e delicious, good quality flaky cod with crunchy batter and plenty of salt & vinegar on my Fat Chips! This place will be my go to for Fish n Chips in Dagenham , just loved the food served here, in comparison to others in the area this Chippy is fabulous and worthwhile to visit.

Me and my daughter order from here all the time. The food is delicious. The staff are welcoming and friendly. And as we're regular customers the owner likes to give our dog 1 or 2 treats at closing time. Such a kind man.

It is a very nice, calm and fantastic college no disobedience, no discrimination, no bullying all the teachers and staff are kind and straight forward. Every one minds their own business and focuses on their own work. Yh I love the college its sweet and nice.

Visited after seeing good reviews on here, not disappointed, excellent food and a really friendly owner as well, great stuff.

Firstly there are 2 tripadvisor reviews of the seahorse the first gave 1* obviously they are use to chip shops that sell kebabs. The second gave 4.5* this is where my vote goes. I have recommend other people to this shop and they go back...

What a great place for fish and chips, just how they used to be without the newspaper.... Freshly cooked fish with crispy coating and a flaky flesh. Cooked to perfection, with no excess grease. Chips were hot and tasty, not greasy, a well portioned size. This place had been here 50+ years which goes to show how good it is. Highly recommended with very competitive prices....

Always fresh.a little over priced. Sausages in better are lovely. Chips tend to be crispy not fluffy. But decent enough for a chippy.

Chips shop is decent ashame about the staff a customer came in and simply asked a question and how rude the lady was behind the counter when the customer left is unbelievable maybe some training in customer care should be on the cards.

Lovely fish and chips. Luckily my local. Can improve.. Would be nicer if they had a better shop front and did large and normal chips rather than the one portion they only do. Plus it would be more pleasant if the fried fishs were not placed on the fryer lid. It's not a hygiene issue but just not a pleasant site. A basket would be better. And like many independent businesses, customer service can be heavily improved. The people are lovely but would do their business a massive favour by this one fact that well established businesses know and heavily invest on as it brings in customers and their willing to spend regularly with loyalty.

Absolutely awful no choice on chip sizes and always cold. Staff rude and the food is absolutely tasteless maybe could do with a change of oil.

Been going here for as long as I remember, and can comfortably say it's one of the best fish and chip shops I've ever been to. The chips are the lightest, fluffiest things you'll ever eat, and the fish is always fresh. Portion sizes are a tad on the small side, so it's not always the best value takeaway, but what you do get is amazing. I read an interview with some fishmongers on Billingsgate market, and a couple of them recommended Seahorse because apparently they always make sure everything they sell is fresh. Make of that what you will.
