M.Manze in Sutton

Went to manzes pie mash shop yesterday afternoon. There were 2 young girls behind the counter. The older lady was doing the tables. My Friend and I just popped in for a bit of lunch. To be greated by 2 girls making silly remarks. And laughing. It was like walking into a kids playground. My friends just put his mum into a home for dementia. We were both unhappy to be greeted in that way.First time in the Sutton shop. Never again.

Fantastic pie n mash. Normally get take away and have it at home. Friendly staff and great value for money.

Some people get a bit sniffy because Sutton is in the suburbs of South West London and not in the sound of Bow Bells . But the pie and mash served here is second to none ( and that includes the original Tower Bridge Rd shop ) , Harringtons in Tooting is good too , but this Manzies is the real deal , better than other local Pie and Mash shops by a mile .

Used this shop for many years in fact all the manzes shops . But they have changed the gravy to vegan before was Maggie gravy which was lovely the vegan gravy is absolutely vile won't feed it to my dog please give us back our decent gravy . I understand there are vegans but I spoke to many previous customers and we are all in agreement this vegan gravy is awful

The table and plastic dividers between tables are filthy. The staff have jewellery dangling in the food and the women do not tie their hair back or wear hair nets. I found a massive blonde hair in my food. Staff smoking outside the front entrance and then not washing their hands is just unappealing. Basic rules of hygiene do not seem to apply here.

Friendly staff , great food my regular shop at least once a fortnight , authentic decor decent prices , live this place 💚

Travelled up with a friend from the Isle of Wight to M Manze in Sutton for my first ever pie, mash and liquor. The service was excellent the food was hot and ready within a blink of an eye, I would thoroughly recommend this taste of London to all.

Always pop in when shopping in Sutton, love Pie and Mash and sad to see so many shops now gone. Traditional benches and marble tables add to the old world atmosphere.

M.Manze is a must visit for pie mash! There are three branches of Manzes but since Peckham was far away and there are too many distractions in London so I went to Sutton. As a foodie I am trying to dine at all the pie and mash shops in London because I just love pie and mash. Pie and mash originates from East London where they serve Pie, mash and eel. On this visit, I just had the pie mash so next time I shall return for the jellied eels because I am addicted to the jelly which is heaven when you put lashings of vinegar and pepper on it. As I was late due to the traffic I only had a pie and liquor to be quick. Normally I have the regular beef pie but since they had the vegan soya mince version I decided to have that instead because not all pie mash shops have a vegetarian version. Adding salt, white pepper and chili vinegar makes the pie really moreish because it makes the pastry more flavourful. The white pepper really takes it to the next level when it is mixed with the liquor and vinegar. Although the soya mince doesn't have much flavour but once you add the condiments everything goes together perfectly. I am so glad that pie mash is one of the things that is traditionally served with white pepper because chefs don't use white pepper these days, they all use black pepper which is so different. Black pepper is nice but white pepper shouldn't be forgotten just like delicious pie mash. The only thing I didn't like were the plants with deliveroo on it because it just ruined the traditional appearance of Manze. I understand they deliver for them but perhaps they are too modern and just don't look good together.

I have just had the worst pie and mash I have ever had, such a shame as the last time I was there it was delicious. What are you doing differently. The mash was tasteless, the pie was tasteless and the liquor was all congealed and would not soak up pie and mash, the eels were very small and not very tasty. This dish is now too expensive to be horrible.

As always top class home produced honest food, Pie and Mash & Liquor served in the traditional style, No frills setting but you don’t go for the ambiance just really good wholesome stuff...Highly recommended....

Had a pie and mash cockney night at out club in Epsom and the food we ordered from this company was A1 you couldn't ask for better every thing was packaged ready for collection on the day and even supplied extras like vinegar and extra mash. great service thanks people. Made a great night. Will get again

Without doubt the only thing worth going Sutton for always have a Desmond with liquor and never disappoints

Brilliant lunch. Consistently fabulous food every time I come here. And they do vegetarian pies which is a big hit with my husband

Two and two with liquor,you can't beat it.Oh,and ask them to turn the pies over.You can keep yer hamburgers and kebabs.Manze's pie and mash everytime.! This is one old Cockney institution that mustn't be allowed to die.

Follows the great manze family tradition of serving up the best pie and mash ever. Liquor just the right consistency and colour, pies moist inside, with just enough gravy with a suet crust base and crusty topping that sponges in the lashings of vinegar, salt and pepper - ask for your pie on the burnt side to get the true taste. Mash not too creamy to get diluted in the liquor. The whole thing making my mouth water just writing about it! If you reaĺly want to go to town order some stewed eels to go with it Staff friendly and fast. Almost everthing including the t-shirt! The only thing missing is the sawdust on the floor so dont spit your eel bones out on it!

As I read some of the poor reviews I realise there’s an agenda to promote other stores. Take Peter S in 2014 who claimed Henry Owen Cheam was better, they closed down and most of their food was microwaved. Treble pie single mash and liquor here was gorgeous not the very best but very good. I’d rather eat here than Arments who’s pis are so greasy it dilutes your liquor. Give this place a go, supper your local shop

You will not find a better Pie n Mash shop for miles. Been treating myself to this lovely meal for years. Great taste and great value for money.

If you want good old pie&mash in south London you can’t go wrong with this pie shop, freshly cooked to old recipes it really is like going back in time. The staff are really friendly and always like a good chat especially Lesley who’s like an old friend. Can’t shop in Sutton without getting our take away.

Myself and my husband always try and visit once a week . and it's the first place my daughter wants to go and eat when she's home from south Africa to visit us.my whole family love pie n mash and have never had a bad experiance at manzes and we have been going there for just over 20 years and been very happy with the food and the friendly staff and thstz all of them

I've been eating here since 2003 - it's a life-saver in this neck of the woods. The Pie & Mash is exceptional the service always friendly & efficient. Can't recommend this more strongly - long may it continue.

Went there last Saturday lovely food pies were crispy with plenty of meat delicious potatoes and perfect liquor, as good as 50yrs ago in the East End

My family and I have been coming here for years - definitely the best pie and mash around!! The staff are so friendly and welcoming which keeps us coming back every few weeks. My Nan said she won’t go anywhere else!

Yummy. Yummy. Yummy!!! Been for years and will continue to go. Love that they deliver too :) I normally have gravy but tried liquor and I’m converted. Can’t wait for my next visit

The atmosphere was amazing and the people working there are great except for one of the workers. The worker with blond hair who is quite tall and skinny was chewing gum at the counter whilst talking to me and has an attitude. I thought it was disgusting how she was chewing the chewing gum over the food whilst serving it. Furthermore I thought it was unprofessional on how she was yelling at another colleague whilst standing at the counter.

This is the best pie n mash shop, the pies are lovely with beautiful pastry and the liquor is really tasty full of parsley. The staff are very friendly and the shop is spotless. Love it!

First time at this pie and mash, very busy, rude woman behind the counter, ran out of pies and the veggie pies are not very good. Not a patch on Goddards in Greenwich.

I've been to nearly every pie and mash shop in London and to Sutton a lot of times but went there sat and the liquor was like water the pies inside was a slab of I don't know the place was empty which is very odd always use to fight for a table sorry won't be going back

The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The food was pretty good maybe not the best I’ve ever had but acceptable. Very busy place but very efficient staff. Would go again

Pie and mash and a cup of tea good value in today’s world. Quality of the pies can be inconsistent but when they are good they really are good when they are not they are indifferent and just ok.Location of the shop is good. Service not friendly but functional. Compare it to McD or KFC and its a better experience.

I have been coming to m.manze shop in Sutton for a few years now. I have got friendly with the lady with sort blood hair but i think she was on holiday when I come into the shop and the tall lady with the blood hair served me and I said I wanted a single pie and mash and she said we was waiting about 15 minutes for pies so I sat down and waited about 20 minutes and then 20 minutes went past and I was still waiting and she was serving other customers before me and I come to the counter and I ask her where my pie and mash was and she turn around very abruptly and said just wait it’s coming and I then said I wanted my money back because I didn’t appreciate the way she spoke to me and I popped in one day in the week and spoke to the tall man with dark hair and the lady with sort blood hair and explained what happened.

Pie and mash is well over a hundred years old and the old adage "if it ain't broke..." fits perfectly here.

A nice welcome and the order was taken quickly..... sat down and dug in. Really tasty pie, mash, liquor and a plate of eels. Worth the stop!

I have been made to fill very uncomfortable. when I come in on Wednesday. I was about to eat my pie and mash when a member of stuff that was doing the plants was staring at me and kept smiling at me in a wired way so I felt so uncomfortable I left my food and went home

I have always stuggled to find a nice pie and mash shop since moving from Westmoreland Road, London (arments pie and mash) and people often said to try manze's pie and mash so i finally gave in and went for some pie and mash and still am regretting trying this bland tasteless food

Manze's food is disgusting anyone wanting nice pie and mash should avoid this place food is terrible and not nice at all

The food was great the place was very clean but some of the workers was talking to a co-worker in the shop that dose the washing up and she was saying she don't like her job and dose to many hours and doesn't like a certain co-worker in the shop also that she wanted to work some where else that's not nice to hear when its a really nice place and some of the the other staff are so lovely.when i was eating i just like to eat my food and i don't like it when people take my drinks that i haven't fished yet and keep bending over me to get plates and not here the worker life story when eaten also she drop places and cups on the floor maybe she should use a bucket so it don't go everywhere other then that it was really nice.

Heard that this place was good. Walked here on Saturday afternoon but it was closed headed back along on Monday before we headed home to Glasgow.

When I'm back in the UK,I stay with friends,close by ,and my lunch when i'm in Sutton is double pie,mash and liquor,also a mug of tea...It beats a chicken roti hands down!

Only two pie choices. The meat in the pie was chewy and the mash was dry. The lady poured so much liquor on the plate, which was tasteless. Shame because I had heard good things about this place. Very disappointing!

Sólo pedimos la tarta para llevar y licor que no oferta de £26 por seis tartas pequeñas y licores. En todos mis años de comer más de cincuenta tarta y puré nunca he probado tales licores sin sabor. Sin aderezos, sosa y gloopy. Después de comer uno de licores entre nuestro grupo hizo las otras dos apresuradamente su camino hacia la papelera. Realmente fueron tan mal! Gracias a Dios que no hacen el largo viaje hasta el restaurante en sí.

Específicamente condujo a Sutton y puré de Menzies pastel con mi hermana para una tarta mucho perder y puré.

I had high hopes, but now suspect that the liquor is to disguise the lack of flavour in the mash, the cardboard texture of the pastry & dry filling. Friendly atmosphere and staff though.

Actually visiting this place a couple of times a month now I have the taste All good food really hot and freshly cooked Staff all pleasant It's only a small shop so it can get a bit tight in there for wheelchairs but ok for small buggies It does get busy in there especially around lunch time Good quality food

By far the nicest comfort food ! ! Served piping hot eels pie and mash and liquor . Just tooo tasty ......eels not overstewed.... Pie and mash .... a source of warm contentment :-) Reasonably priced day time food that is one of the core eateries of the London scene. Try it if you never have, who knows. But don't forget the chilli vinegar!

One out the few restaurants still serving the old favourite Pie and Mash. Great nourishing food at a good price. It's great to see young people in there, beats Macdonalds any day of the week

Went yesterday with my grandson, and it was delicious and piping hot as usual. We had single pie and mash, and ordered a take away for 2 other family members. Highly recommended .

Can't fault popping in here for a classic pie mash and liquor on the odd chance, the pies are a good standard and so too is the mash and liquor that completes the meal! Would recommend to any pie and mash lover!

The pie and mash here is nasty, i love me some pie n mash but i just can not handle this places junk. to me the 2 best pie and mash shops are arments pie mash (elephant and castle) and henry owens (which has now shut down in cheam) miles better than this low quality they serve in manzes

Some think that because this P&M is 'in the sticks', it can't match the super P&Ms of South East and East London.It can and then some... Part of the three Manze chain (others being Peckham and Tower Bridge Road.. both also excellent) they know their stuff and have a long family history to perfect the art.Pies alway slightly chrispy with a soft bottom, liquor un-flourescent and full of flavour, mash - well mashed to perfection.Even the tea is spot on,The Goddards and Arments devotees need to jump on a train to Sutton.

Authentic old English food served in an East End style pie and mash shop. My pie and mash was really scrumptious. I like the atmosphere and the good value prices too!

I'm staying down in London with work so was encouraged to try traditional pie and mash.... It was ok, it is what it is, simple pie and mash but must be experience with liquor to say that you've had a true taste of London

The pie & mash was just ok. Pie filling was a firm lump of meat in the middle of the pastry. Not very friendly staff, struggled to open door with relative in a wheelchair and didnt offer to help. Been to Manze pie shop on Tower Bridge Road, very friendly staff and pies much better there.

I would not say i enjoyed it.pie had no real taste to it.but it filled a gap one lunchtimeHad better where you could actually taste the meat in the pie.

Quality food, great they do a vegetarian version. Perfect place to eat and have a chat. A bit busy at times but that only reflects the good value food.

My childhood was spent in central London and pie and mash was a treat after shopping on a Saturday lunchtime. Haven't been for pie and mash for years so ventured into Manze's whilst shopping in Sutton, it was exactly like I remembered. Great homemade pies with crisp pastry, mash and liquor all topped off with vinegar. Very busy with people from all walks of life eating at the simple bench seating. Humble fayre but delicious in my opinion and a real hark back to times when life seemed simpler.

If you've never eaten traditional pie and mash, then this is the place to try it. I've been here several times over the years and have never found anything to complain about. You can eat sitting at the benches and tables, or order to take-away. The food is well cooked and of excellent value.

If this is the site for the Pie and Mash shop, OMG I've just been talking about a revival of the cuisine. I've been eating P & M since I was 5 yrs old and now I'm a ripe old age of 62 and still salivate at the thought of a proper Pie and Mash, and sometimes with stewed eels. Long may you live and prosper!

Manze's is a chain of traditional pie and mash shops that are keeping this wonderful traditional English fayre alive and well.I visited their Sutton branch and had a great lunch. I was warmly greeted at the counter and I choose one pie, mash, eels and liqor washed down with a good mug of tea, all for the princely sum of about £6. Once I had been handed my food I took a seat on on of the long benches alongside some workmen, an elderly couple and a young mum with her child. No where else do you get all aspects of community munching away together in convivial enjoyment.My food was excellent and I topped it with the customary white pepper and vinegar which only addded to the flavour. I can thoroughly recommend visiting one of these establishments for good hearty food in a warm welcoming atmosphere.
