This unassuming restaurant is absolutely incredible - the best Japanese food we have ever tasted at an incredible price. Can’t recommend highly enough.

I really enjoyed my visit to Miya Japanese restaurant. We arrived shortly after work on a weekday and we took the seat in the window. We were lucky we got a seat as it quickly filled up after our arrival. We tried the Chicken Karaage and Agadashi Tofu to start. Both were tasty and the sauce on the tofu reminded me of Japan. The Karaage wasn't particularly authentic but it tasted nice. We both went for Pork Katsu curries for the main. This was a good portion with a nice curry sauce and the pork was tasty without being fatty. Overall we found the restaurant good value, the service was friendly and the menu was extensive. We'll certainly give it another go!

Believe it or not, I have never eaten Japanese food other than sushi before! I have no excuses other than I had just never gotten round to it. Miya was my first Japanese restaurant and I have to say, I was blown away! I opted for the ‘GYUNIKU HABAYAKI’ which was beef cooked on leaves. It was very tasty and was cooked rare. I had the pancakes for dessert which were lovely. It was great to be able to enjoy a delicious meal whilst trying something new. I cannot believe I had waited so long! I will most definitely be back for more! Yum yum. I must mention that the service was great and the restaurant was very cosy and clean. Lovely stuff all round!

The 5 course banquet, with a Wowcher, was very dissapointing. The fried chicken was not breast, it was thigh or leg. Choice was very poor compared to what was listed on the Wowcher web site and the portions small. The food was good but the service was very hurried, courses coming when we hadn't finished the previous one and the plates cleared away before everyone had finished eating and were still using the sauces. If we had paid the full price we would have been even more dissapointed. Don't think we will be back.

The voucher deal menu differed to the menu on the day. Course one was miso soup with no choice. Course two was a small plate of edamame beans or 5 chicken gyozo. Course three was three microscopic pieces of sashimi. Course four was 6 small maki rolls. No hot food on offer, just a limited choice of maki filling. Course five was one small scoop of vanilla ice cream, again no choice. On a positive note, the food was of a good standard but on a negative note and the reason I will not be back, is that I left hungry, disappointed and in complete disbelief that I’d supposedly just been served a banquet worth over £57 for two. My partner feels exactly the same. Buyer beware.

A Deliveroo order from Miya and the food was absolutely fabulous; super tasty sashimi, tofu, sushi and rolls. I used to live in Tokyo, and this was easily some of the best Japanese food I’ve had in Edinburgh. A more extensive menu available in-house and I will be visiting soon to try. Too much bland, non authentic, Japanese food around these days; I hope this restaurant keeps its quality high.

I visited Miya today (22/02/18) and it was outstanding. The food was quick, delicious, and filling. The service was fast and polite - just what we wanted. The only downside is that they can’t accept tips on card! I ran down the road to grab some cash from a cashpoint, but was not aware they closed at 2pm, so when I got back to give the cash tip they had shut the doors unfortunately. Either way, the young European girl with the blonde hair was an excellent server, and my only regret is not being able to get a tip to her in time! Definitely go there if you’re looking for good Japanese food in Edinburgh.

Our second visit at Miya sadly didn’t meet our expectations. The service was terribly slow, the waiting staff was inattentive and the restaurant was so cold, I ended up putting my coat on during the meal. The explanation I was given was that there were only two chefs in and one was still training. We waited 30 minutes before getting our starters, fair enough we were given a free starter which had been made in error by one of the chefs. Then our main meal arrived, we ordered the wagu beef, but we pretty much were on the last mouthful before our rice came. No one checked on us at any point to see how we felt the meal went. I was asked if I wanted more tea, nobody bothered asking my husband. We waited for someone to take our dessert order but after waiting in the cold for what felt like edges, I had to go to the waiting staff and settled the bill. I was given 10% off and a half hearted apology. Such a disappointing night. 2 stars as the food was ok overall...

We’ve visited here twice now. Beautiful decor and owner is lovely. Very helpful to explain the menu and give recommendations. The quality of food products used and presentation is way above their nearby competitors. The tastes are much more enjoyable also. The prices are slightly higher than the nearby sushi restaurants but the quality of dishes certainly justify the slight additional increase. Highly recommended

It's a small restaurant and we had a booking on a Saturday night. Tables were packed too closely together making it less than comfortable. Took 15min before anybody offered us drinks. Food was only ok. We got some marinated skewers for £10 definitely not worth the price. Ramen was only ok- not bad but nothing outstanding. Honestly there are far better Japanese restaurants out there.

Miya is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Edinburgh I reckon. I have been there on numerous occasions with friends and families for lunches and dinners, and we enjoyed our food every time. To me, Miya offers a unique experience – it is a small and friendly place which offers real skilful and tasty Japanese cuisines, and has many unique dishes like ‘Japanese hot pot’ that you can only find it from Miya.

I've had much experiences with Japanese restaurants in Edinburgh We shared the teriyaki noodles, various rice and rolls. Coming from Japan was looking for decent Japanese food and this place did not disappoint Lot of variety of food with decent quantity. Miya is the new Japanese restaurant in Edinburgh but it is very much like the ones we visited in London. so I can say that if you want to try pretty authentic Japanese food in Edinburgh it is the place to seek out.

We ordered the tempura, some sushi and some rice. It is a bit overpriced for what it is. Service was ok but the waitresses kept talking in chinese while we were eating which I found quite disrepectful Also they served chinese dark soy sauce with the sushi...?? I suspect it is a japanese-looking rest. run by chinese owners ? Bottom line is why would you come here when you have two other japanese rest. down the road.? The area is a bit saturated now...

I was curious about this new restaurant for a while and finally went for dinner with friends, turned out we weren't disappointed. The restaurant offers both cold and hot food, we shared a selection of sashimi and tempura for starter, all very very fresh and testy. Tempura was the best I have ever had in Edinburgh. We also had Sukiyaki (a hot pot of tender beef and vegetables cooked in a tasty broth), really lovely. It was interesting to have the hot pot bubbling away in front of us. We were given raw eggs with it, weren't sure at the beginning but we simply poured them into the hot pot and cook them with the meat and vegetable, very interesting and again, very tasty! Our waitress was attentive and friendly, so I found the earlier comment difficult to believe. We'll be back.

No issues with the food, very tasty and well presented. A miso vegetable ramen was as good as some I've had in Japan, a mackerel dish featured very fresh and plump fish, and an eel maki dish was quirky but definitely good.

I was quite excited to try this place after reading the earlier reviews but had a very disappointing experience. Not sure if it was an extremely off day for them but the sushi was a very mediocre quality, the miso cod was two tiny slivers that were overly salty and cooked till dry, and VERY expensive at £18... Waitresses very inexperienced - did not understand much English and got a couple of our orders wrong. I would not recommend this place at all.

Food perfect as always- Wagamama is my favourite thing to have when out and about with my partner. Service was absolutely fantastic I can’t fault the staff at all- we were a party of 11 for a birthday and they were honestly so lovely and efficient about it all. Food and drinks came without fault. A massive thank you to the staff that brought out my birthday cake! (I do apologise if that’s not the done thing usually) and I hope you all enjoyed the bits that were left for you. Genuinely the nicest staff and the best food I’ve had. Thank you so much for being part of a great weekend!
