Our experience in Master Chinese Restaurant was delightful! Lovely interior designs and a very spacious place. We had a big group, and it being a Saturday night, we were lucky to have come here. Fried Sweet Potato Fries coated with Salted Egg Salt and Pepper Tofu Lamb from the East? (something like that. This was perhaps the most impressive dish.) Beef Noodles Sour Vegetable Fish Soup Salted Egg Custard 'Pau' Our entire group thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There's also the option of Bubble milk tea is this restaurant. Master Chinese Restaurant makes for a good decision when it comes to Chinese cuisine.

Visited on spec as had such a variety of vegan dishes. Had duck and Hong Kong “chicken”. All delicious though everything arrived together. My friend had noodles which she said were greasy, though I often find that with noodles. Staff were lovely. I would describe the restaurant as basic. It was clean but there are curtains with boxes stored and toilets very close to some tables. Would visit again due to amount of vegan food on offer and my meal was delicious.

Lovely staff and really nice food with great vegan and veggie options, the vegan duck and chicken was really nice. I definitely recommend!

Restaurant looks very clean and nice, but VERY COLD inside, way too cold for a late Saturday evening. They had no heat on. The rose tea 🥀 🫖 was amazing and it’s presentation really fine. The two staff were nice too. But The food wasn’t good, either microwaved or kept warm in batches and then thrown in whatever mix you ask. My partner’s not fussy so he was fine with his but i had chow mein beef and the meat and noodles were cold and the noodles very oily. Didn’t like it. Didn’t send them back but didn’t eat either. Wouldn’t go back. £45 for two mains and a starter, a cocktail, a pint of coca cola, and two teas. The thing with the tea is, the second tea I ordered she only put more hot water over the roses and charged a full £3 for that 🤦🏻‍♀️ I wasn’t that happy to pay for what was essentially the same tea just different boiled tap water… I don’t know. Not food, wouldn’t go back.

Visited with 5 friends, chosen because of the number of Chinese students eating there. We ordered 3 set meals for 2(all the same) and pints of beer. The restaurant became increasingly cold, so much that I had to to put my scarf on! The staff said that the heating was at the maximum and could not be turned up, and provided a small fan heater, which proved to be totally useless. Whilst eating our starter, (which was OK, but nothing special) a strong unpleasant smell of faeces was coming from the toilets! The staff sprayed Febreze, which didn't solve the problem. It was so strong that we unanimously decided that we couldn't eat the rest of the meal. After some discussion, we paid the bill and left. From our conversation with the staff it was obvious that they were used to getting similar complaints. The manager was not available! The first and last time that I will visit, stay well clear!

Very disappointing. Seemed ok when we first arrived with a few other tables occupied but cleared our very quickly. The restaurant then became very cold. We were told the heating was on the highest setting so couldn’t be turned up. They did provide a small heater but it made little difference. We had the duck starter which was OK but while eating it the smell from the toilets became stronger and stronger. We mentioned this and they said they’d spray some Fabreze! They did, which disguised the smell briefly with a strong fabreze smell instead. The smell and the heating are obviously a regular problem. We cancelled the rest of the meal and, after an argument on what we should pay for, paid up and left. We were told the manager could not be contacted. I would suggest avoiding this place and will certainly not return.

Firstly, the menu we were provided was not the same as the one advertised outside. I was initially happy to see a vegan selection but when I ordered the "crispy Asian salad" that was advertised with VG (vegan) it was just a plate of shredded lettuce with salad cream on. Salad cream has eggs as far as I know. The main course of vegan duck was fine if overly salty and sweet. My friend ordered soft noodles and they were horrendous, salty and greasy. The coconut rice and frog legs dishes were okay but not nice enough to save the experience. Additionally, we were charged 20p to take the rice away after the meal. The server was polite and friendly but I didn't feel comfortable complaining because what can you say to someone serving you wilted lettuce with salad cream for £5.80. The bill came to over £50 for two people, it was painful.

Visited with a friend the staff 2 girls were lovely very friendly welcoming etc However once inside the state of the redrausrant was not good Also a bit cold the day we visited Table was not very clean Then we orders Soup was tastless Ribs cooked about 2 days earlier hard tasteless and the sauce was cold I would not recommend this place until the people who own it clean up the place a bit please and your good really needs to be much better I appreciate the last year has been difficult for you and I even hate leaving this review but my experience was terrible!!!!!

Went with my partner on a busy sat night . This had lots of free tables when other restaurants inthe street had queues out of the door , that should have been our first warning Soup ( chicken sweet corn ) was great then before we finished the dim sum arrived , asked the waiter to hold the duck ( as I could tell they were about to bring that out ) and after agreeing brought it out anyway Dim sum was ok but tiny sizes , thinking about it afterwards it was like a platter u get in Tesco’s ( so well done Tesco ! ) Duck was tiny what looked like cubes And was really dry . Ate one pancake and left rest Mains lemon chicken , just so sharp it hurt my tongue . I eat lemon chicken at most Chinese restaurants and this was the worst I have ever been served , I pressed my fork on the sliced chicken breast and fat just ran out of it ( from the frying ) , didn’t eat it either Staff had little ( or no ) English , didn’t understand request for vinegar for chips , I didn’t push as the whole conversation was painful enough . I understand this is a Chinese but it’s a customer facing role where I imagine most of your customers are English , we were never asked how the food was or why the mains were left Terrible place , we told an incoming Customer who was browsing the outside menu not to bother as it was so bad . So poor , if you are in Newcastle avoid this place

Their hygiene is atrocious. They use old/rotting food and I'm lucky to be alive tbh. Would never recommend. Utter trash

Called in on spec looking for lunch on a Sunday wish I’d gone to kfc the food was greasy and tasteless I’ve never known a Chinese needing seasoning before but the chef here clearly doesn’t use any £30 wasted

The atmosphere is as lovely as the food. And can’t wait to go back & try the seafood platter! The presentation of the spicy duck was fabulous!

Have been here a few times and have always enjoyed the meals. Portions are generous and quality is good. The staff are friendly and attentive and service is quick. The menu is extensive and easy to follow thanks to the excellent pictures.

My sister and I came here for dinner using a Groupon. The waiting staff were very attentive although struggled with their English, so ordering using the numbers on the menu rather than with the names of the dishes was much more successful. We had frogs legs and king prawns to start, followed by calamari and twice-cooked monkfish for our mains and there wasn't a single dish that we didn't like. The dishes are more on the expensive side, especially for shellfish, but the portions are generous and everything was cooked to perfection. There are even several vegetarian options with lots of variety. Both of us said we would come back again.

Went for lunch not sure what to expect as we had not been before. Service was good with a slight struggle with making ourselves understood. We ordered two courses. To start I had the lettuce wraps and Dave had satay, both were very good and large portions for starters. For mains we ordered a monkfish dish and a duck dish with just one portion of rice between us. Again both dishes were really good and on the large side so we did not finish the rice or all the monkfish. We will definitely be back.

Been here for a lunch on Monday Aromatic Duck and chicken and sweet corn soup for a starters came in 2min Duck Just warm Soup no Chicken tasteless for a main course my partner had a King prawns with Asparagus witch ones wasn’t to bad but no more like a Take away quality my platter was soaked in Oil with few bits of meat and fish mainly chips (had two spoons of it felt sick of grease) side Egg fried rice been microwaved to death all chewy... Service - would need another negative review apart of old lady smiling haven’t received service at all...

My partner and I visited this restaurant with a Groupon voucher for a meal for 2 with freshly squeezed juice. Prior to the visit we rang to book, the young lady on the telephone had poor english and struggled to understand our request, we eventually ended up with a booking for Rachel not Richard as was clearly stated !!! On arrival we were seated and given 1 menu between us. It was then 45 minutes before anybody came to take our order. The waiter clearly did not speak english so we had to point to the menu and he wrote down the relevant code number. We ordered drinks, a glass of rose and a pint of lager. I was brought a bottle of rose and had to explain I only wanted a glass. When the drinks arrived I was given a wine glass about 1/3rd full, Im sure this wasn’t the correct measure and certainly not £4.95 worth of wine. I then noticed there was lipstick on the glass, I asked for this to be changed. The dirty drink was left on the table and a clean glass was brought which I refused. I was eventually brought a replacement this time 2/3rds full, so clearly no set measure being used. After some time a girl appeared with a tray containing 2 main courses, not ours, I explained we hadn’t had our starters and she went back with the food then tried to serve it to another table. Eventually our starters arrived and were ok, decent sized portion and tasty. Table was then cleared and there was a long wait for the mains to arrive during which I asked for our freshly squeezed juice which hadn’t appeared. The orange juice was poured from a carton at the bar, so clearly not freshly squeezed. The mains eventually arrived, my monkfish in a hot cantonese special sauce was sweet and sour and my partners thai green curry was a vivid shade of green. Both tasted ok but my “hot” sauce was very disappointing. The service was very poor and certainly didn’t make me feel welcome therefore I don’t think I will be returning anytime soon.

Fresh, tasty and great value for money. Visited with my wife and seven year old daughter. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Food was excellent. Will definitely be visiting again soon. Thanks

Fuimos el sábado por la tarde a almorzar con mi esposa, la bienvenida no fue muy atractiva. Nos recibió un hombre asiático cuya cara era como si hubiera encontrado una libra, pero perdió un poco, su servicio no fue lo mejor que su inglés era muy pobre pero al final, resolvimos el orden y tenía costillas pegajosas que estaban sabrosas, pero apenas tibias mi esposa tenía sal y pimienta gambas que eran muy agradables y calientes, a los platos principales mi esposa tenía un bajo entero al vapor que de nuevo era muy sabroso y estaba perfectamente cocinado. El estilo cantonés, que era muy bueno, la comida en el frente de la casa necesita animarse un poco y aprender mejor inglés o conseguir a alguien que hable con fluidez.

Cuando llegamos como grupo de cuatro personas, nos dirigieron a una mesa pequeña con 3 sillas y que no estaba ni bien colocada ni limpiaba adecuadamente, a pesar de que el restaurante tenía muchas mesas más apropiadas, y cuando trajeron la silla adicional, tenía un pollo desechado. ala en ello Nos dieron dos menús entre cuatro, tuvimos que pedir palillos dos veces a una camarera que no hablaba inglés. Ordenar las bebidas fue una prueba por la misma razón. La ginebra y la tónica eran planas, más como ginebra y agua tibia. La sopa de pollo y maíz dulce estaba bien. El pato era bueno, por supuesto, no estaba rallado y tuvimos que hacerlo nosotros mismos con un tenedor y una cuchara prestados de otros platos, y tampoco teníamos vajilla separada para comerla y cuando pedimos algo nunca llegó. así que o bien se cubrió con la salsa de otro plato o, en el caso de mi padre, se redujo a ponerlo en el mantel. Fideos y pollo satay eran bastante buenos. Recibimos dos porciones de cangrejos que no habíamos pedido, pero más tarde descubrimos que eran las dos lubinas al vapor que habíamos pedido, pero nuevamente hubo un malentendido, lo cual fue una pena, ya que habíamos salido específicamente para el lubina al vapor, pero en el momento en que nos dimos cuenta de lo que había sucedido, decidimos simplemente renunciar a ella y obtener la factura.

We had a Groupon voucher and everything was straight forward. You could choose a starter up to £6.80 and a main up to £13. There was lots of choice with a lot of meat dishes as well as seafood.

We ordered the hot and spicy seafood platter. For £50 this was amazing value, whole lobster, whole crab, queen scallops, green lipped mussels, squid and clams all in a great spicy sauce that had a decent kick.

Two of us returned to Master having enjoyed a good meal hear earlier this summer. Once again we were met by nice staff and were efficiently served. The food is very good here with fried and steamed dumplings to start followed by Crispy beef and Beef with broccoli. Both dishes were cooked to order, served hot and very tasty. The portions are good and we didn’t have a dessert as we were full. We will definitely return as we like this restaurant and are happy to recommend Master to others looking to eat out in Chinatown.

I went here with a friend during the summer. We had a Groupon voucher and enjoyed an excellent meal for very good value for money. Notwithstanding the voucher, the food is very well priced so I would happily go back without. Worth a visit

this was our first visit to master and what a result the friendly welcome and service was second to none lovely interior excellent menu cooked fresh this has a voucher on it at the moment get it it is a great way to try this restaurant. the food was excellent great fresh starter in a new way north eastern chinese quisine brought to the north east of england with skill and quality excellent selection of drinks and wine the mains were well worth the wait they were perfect if you are going to the theatre book a pre dinner here.visiting or a local I strongly advise you give this place a try you will be back. it,s a new take to the usual stowell street cantonese fayre,this is from north eastern province of china and it is a delight great romantic setting and also good for groups its prices are very competitive and the ambience is superb thanks to all for a great evening and a delicious dinner

Beautiful spotless above average restaraunt. Alan our waiter was extremely informative on the menu. He explained the Groupon voucher choices which was almost all of the menu. HE immediately served prawn crackers with a sweet chilli dip nice little touch while we looked over the menu Daughter and I shared a platter with 5 varieties on and was cooked well and served piping hot.I had mushrooms and prawns and daughter chose prawns and asparagus sides of egg fried rice and salt n chilli chips. All well presented and plentyiful. The food was delicious so sad we couldn't finish it all

Excellent service, very pleasant and helpful. We were delighted with all the food we had. As well as sea food they do a large selection of meat and vegetable dishes. There is something for everyone.

Fuimos en una oferta de groupon. Tengo una dieta especial y puede ser un poco incómodo, pero no pudieron haber sido más útiles y ajustados platos a la medida. El gerente fue divertido y todo el personal fue fantástico. Los cinco de nosotros tuvimos comidas deliciosas. Sin duda lo recomiendo y volveremos. Recomiendo toda la lubina al vapor!

Very good value (a lot of people eat here with Groupon), the mussels are a great starter. The green chicken curry is pretty good too!

I've been here twice. The first time was with a large group, containing some people with particular eating requirements. The staff were really friendly, helpful and very patient! We all had fabulous meals. Last night I went with just 3 others and we also had a great time! Nothing is too much trouble and the food was good and plentiful at very reasonable prices.

Two of us had our first meal here at lunchtime today. We were welcomed by a nice waiter who was attentive throughout the meal. We were given prawn crackers and dipping sauce as an appetiser, then we chose steamed and fried prawn dumplings which were very tasty. For mains we both had steamed whole Sea Bass with ginger and chilli accompanied by chips and sweet potato fries. We had Mango juice to drink. The food was very good, freshly cooked to order, service efficient and overall we are very happy to recommend Master to anyone eating out in Chinatown.

I and my friend decided to come here after few drinks. the service was really good. The food was lovely and staffs are really nice. downside is....i didnt saw any lifts or access for wheelchair and you may need a map going to their toilet and back.

Had a lovely meal last night, Crab wantons, crispy duck, spicy chilli chicken and crispy beef, everything was lovely. Ryan and Boram were our servers and they couldn’t have been more helpful or pleasant, i would definitely recommend it and I will be back, the restaurant itself was lovely

GROSSLY overpriced for what it is, ie a glass of coke is £2.80, rice £5 for a bowl. The owner is abrupt and the prices are out of line with what is on offer. It is one of those typical places that try to make a killing on the extras. Not surprised the place was empty. The owner needs to look at the local competition, of which there is lots, and learn from them otherwise the writing is on the wall for this establishment.

Really enjoyed our food and both me and my partner thought the service given was amazing! Best service we have received in a long time very nice staff members working, couldn’t have been more polite or helpful. We bought the Groupon deal but would go again and pay full price as the food is priced right. Could not fault the place:)

Me and my partner came here a few months ago now with a groupon voucher. The food and service were brilliant and we could have anything from the menu even though we had voucher{most places are limited] for starters i had the muscles best ones ive eaten and my partner had the sweet chilli king prawns which were divine. the mains were also delish but we couldn't eat everything as there was loads.

Was here on the weekend and what can i say wont go back ever. Ordered food And got somthing other than what we ordered tried to blame us for the mistake then blames waitrees who ended up in toilets crying before she walked out for restaurant.

We booked for a two course dinner - and what a treat it was! A varied menu with the meals cooked to order and served promptly and cheerfully by the staff.

We were a party of 5 and we decided on having the meat & seafood set meal. Each course was delicious and we were not disappointed with our choice. Equally as good was the excellent service we received, each course was explained and honest suggestions...

Visited after reading 5 star Tripadvisor reviews. Service pleasant but slow due to staff shortage on night. Food ok but nothing special. Decor good, a more intimate dining experience than some of the larger Chinese restaurants on Stowell Street.

Thank you Ryan Wei,our meal was absolutely gorgeous.he took the time in explaining all the different meals,nothing was a bother to him always a smile on his face he is a credit to this restaurant.The atmosphere was warm and welcoming,nice music,fairly priced drinks,nice warm towels to clean your hands and face.

Went to Stowell Street for the 1st time in a long time and found this restaurant very pleasant and very clean. We were attended to pleasantly and quickly waited a reasonable time after ordering to get our starters of mussels for myself and seaweed for my wife, which were very nice. Our mains after a short wait of sweet and sour King Prawns and Sea Bass very also very good. On the whole a pleasant evening meal.

Came here for my husbands birthday with our six year old. Kids menu great and my so. Loved the sweet and sour chicken. I had frogs legs followed by duck bread both of which were good. Wine a little pricey but a pitcher of fosters was only £9 which made my husband happy! Would definitely go back and would love to try one of the set menus
