Came for afternoon tea only to be told we had to book. Which we had tried to do all week via social media and phoning. We ordered food which took a long time to come. It wasn’t even busy. Food was average and not very warm. The staff were not very friendly. Overall not a great experience

Can’t fault this place, we came in for a coffee as we were visiting Blyth and the appealing cake display got us to get a carrot cake slice and croissants. The staff is super friendly and their work is amazing. The lady on the till makes sure to decorate each plate (even what could be a boring scone). One of the best cafe experiences I’ve had. Coffees were foamy and balanced. Now the star of the show was definitely the carrot cake. It was moist and fluffy at the same time. You could tell it had more to it like winter spices and I simply loved it. Definitely coming back for a slice of cake and a pumpkin spice drink. Well done!

Visited the cafe with my friend and my 4 year old Grandson. We were told we'd be given a table. The tables are very squashed together with no room to get around them. The lady serving the food kept sqeezing her way round our table and virtually sitting on my Grandson to do so. There are various trinkets on the table on ours was a statuette of a tiger and some glass tealight holders ?? My Grandson obviously was examining them when a very young waitress came over and abruptly said "will you not let him play with them coz they'll get broken" Honestly! Why are all these things on a table where small children are sitting? There wasn't room to place our coffees and ice cream never mind tigers and trinkets taking up the space. Not a nice atmosphere. Young girl waitresses shouldn't be "telling people off" as soon as they sit down at thier table. Staff more interested in dogs than thier customers. No thanks!

…. I had visited Mr Ridley’s before and was delighted so at the first opportunity I went back this time with my husband…but sadly so disappointing… the staff seemed to not know what they were doing I ordered a bacon and egg sandwich in brown bread and a sausage roll … my sandwich came in white bread which I decided we had waited so long for it coming that I never said anything … little did I realise that 30 mins later my husband would be chasing up his sausage roll … they had obviously forgot !!! Then another 10 mins mins before that came by which time his coffee was cold …. What a shame …

I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere, a great cafe however, my toasted sandwich (a baguette) was drizzled on top of the sandwich with balsamic glaze. This really infuriated me because I then couldn't pick up the sandwich without getting my hands covered in sticky vinegar. I definitely don't think it added anything near to the amount it ended up taking away from the experience.

Lovely decor -quirky inside. Please to sit in , coffee , ice cream very nice reasonable price. Asked for a glass of water, was told there would be a charge I agree but was surprised. However I was shocked to find the charge was £1.20 for a glass of tap water, no ice no lemon. Disgraceful!

Arranged afternoon tea with friends today for a special birthday. Mister Ridley’s was very accommodating allowing me to take balloons and bits in. The setting is quirky and quaint which is just to our taste, china cups and saucers and lovely cake stands. Food was just beautiful and had to pack a little box to bring away as there was so much. Estelle was our waitress and she was very attentive, informative and thoughtful. The cost was very reasonable for what was very enjoyable afternoon. Thank you Mister Ridleys we will be back.

We came here for lunch, ordered two tikka plates, a sandwich and a salad. Firstly the person eating the sandwich did not want chips, only the side salad. This was a hardship for the lady behind the till to just not add chips to the order. Secondly the person who had the salad asked for one of the sandwiches to be not put into bread and put besides the side salad because she can’t eat bread and also didn’t want the chips, the look on the woman taking the order was that of disgust. And made quite an ordeal of turning it into a salad. The food that came was extremely lovely, so tasty and well presented. Not one complaint about the food, even the salad that came in the end was beautifully presented and tasted fab. Lovely salad, different to the norm carrot, little lettuce, nice fresh cherry tomatoes, sweet corn ect. However the cutlery came and it was dirty, old food on the knife and fork. We had to clean these our self and when the server came over we told her this and she did offer to change them however we had already cleaned them with our water. Due to complaining about the cutlery the manager (possibly)came out to talk to us, quite defensive and rude on first coming over, stating the cutlery was not filthy as one of us had stated, however we are in the middle of a pandemic and clean crockery should be high on the list of things to do to keep the virus at bay, especially when someone else has used them previous. Instead of just apologising she was rude, came across quite aggressive and made us all who were already a little riled up, quite uncomfortable and annoyed. Such a shame of the attitude of the staff because the food is just lovely. Go here if you want delicious food but dreadful service.

Rude service from start and throughout, ruining our experience. On arrival we asked the waitress (Morgan), to clear the table we were about to sit as it was cluttered with previous plates and cups, she reacted by shrugging her shoulders and barely even wiping the table. After waiting 15 minutes a menu had still not be delivered our table so one of us had to get up ourselves asking for assistance. When ordering at the kiosk, the women looked disgusted when asking if we could take chips off the order, which would actually be easier to have chips on itself. When the food was delivered to the table, the cutlery was dirty resulting in us having to clean them ourselves. We told the waitress our cutlery was dirty and she could only apologise and offer new ones. Five minutes later, a higher member of staff came over, I presume the manager, stating that the cutlery was not dirty and we were wrong about the accusation. We were not impressed by the attitude of the staff and the approach to fixing anything we asked for. We will not be returning and will not recommend to anyone looking for a friendly service.

Mark Toney's Ice Cream as lovely as every, however my cheese scone had an almost burnt bottom - which spoilt it totally for me, and the Chocolate Cake could almost be mistaken for a Marble Cake, tasted lovely, but had lots of white lumps in. My friend ordered a white coffee and was served black - which she didn't discover until we returned to our table in the main park. I stayed at the Commissioners Quay Inn in November and had breakfast included in my room rate, and unfortunately did not have enough time in Blyth to try the food in this little gem of a coffee shop. I randomly found the place on google map before my trip to Blyth and thought I would give it a go for a coffee before my departure. It is such a lovely little place: nicely decorated in a tropical theme, it looks pretty magical. The coffee was good too! there is no wide choice of milk (sorry... i am used to the very busy London coffee shops where every plant milk under the sun is available) but the food menu seemed full of goodness. The place opened at 10am and I thought I would be the only customer there at that time, but there were 2 other tables, so on a cold wet November Sunday, I would say it's a good sign and people know it is a good place. Would definitely try the place for food (well at least cake!) when I return to Blyth

Ridley park is beautiful but would skip Mr Ridley’s cafe and head for chips elsewhere. The concept of sitting area outside and play area for kids is great but the staff unfortunately really spoilt our experience. One member of staff (very dark hair, sparkly trainers) constantly moans about kids playing. She sat outside with her friends smoking her cigarette moaning that the kids were running too fast, riding scooters too fast then they have an ancient see saw that injured 3 children in the hour we were there. One poor girl nearly broke her fingers and was in agony and this member of staff just rudely said ‘you’re too old to be on it’! No accident book logged, no sympathy. It makes me wonder whether they have any public liability insurance or any regulations in place. As it’s obvious that no risk assessment has taken place and the see saw was left out for others to potentially injure themselves. It’s not even fixed to the ground so when my 6yr old got on it tipped over. Again this member of staff just said ‘well you’re too big for it’! The 5 year old we were with couldn’t even get on it, so he obviously wasn’t too big for it. A enforcement officer will be informed and I have pictures of said see saw and will be sharing these. Apart from the appalling attitude of this member of staff, she sat smoking a cigarette, stroking her friends dogs and then got up to clean tables and then serve food, surely they have a hand washing policy?! . I wouldn’t recommend a visit here and will be going elsewhere in future. Such a shame as it’s a nice idea.

Mr Ridleys is a locally run cafe serving a wide selection of meals, cakes, ice cream and drinks. All food is freshly made on the premises and uses locally sourced products. They ran a charity event yesterday and all proceeds went to support the repair and replacement of the allotments in Blyth which were recently destroyed by fire killing a load of livestock. The event raised £607 with thanks to local residents for their donations. This is a nice little cafe set in a lovely park that I often visit. Plenty outside eating space on the green in front and ideal for children. Visited today for lunch. I spent £17.40 on 2 main meals, a bottle of water and a pot of tea. On checking the bill I was charged £2 for an extra pot of hot water that I requested (the same price as a pot of tea). I queried this and the waitress said she would check it for me. However, the answer was they had to charge this as their electricity bills were big. I was really disappointed as I felt this was unreasonable and just taking advantage of customers. Surely £2 for a tea bag and some hot water is enough to charge without charging for an extra cup of hot water. Unfortunately the experience put a dampener on my lunch.

The cafe is in a lovely location in the Ridley Park. There are racks outside for locking up bikes, toilets are available in the public block behind the cafe. Inside is quirkily decorated with 8 or 9 tables and more set up on the grass outside - ideal for those with dogs or children wanting to let off steam. Staff are pleasant and our food came quickly and was tasty - I had a jacket potato with tuna and my partner had one of the homemade Chinese dishes. Prices are reasonable - we paid £13.40 for two meals, two coffees and a can of 7Up. The only downside was the coffee which was fairly bitter and I'm pretty sure the milk for the lattes is frothed then reheated rather than fresh being used for each customer.

Un pintoresco café poco sirve encantadora comida casera a un buen precio. El servicio es fantástico. Los perros son bienvenidos, que era fabuloso, ya que tenía dos. Final agradable para un paseo en familia.

Lovely little quaint cafe well worth a visit for the scones and service. A little hidden gem in the middle of Ridley Park in Blyth. Lots of little things to keep the little ones entertain while the adults enjoys the exceptional food .

Being the only cafe in this area, they charge a bit more than if they had competition close by, however this is justified.Friendly approachable staff who are pleased to serve you. Dogs are welcome and complimentary water is provided for your canine pals.

A pleasant park café in the old bowling club house by the bowling green. Plus points – Nice location. Safe, grass area for the youngsters to play. Popular with families. The green is usually set up with play equipment. Close to the parks other attractions - water feature (summer only) Play parks etc. Close to bus route. (308 Blyth – Newcastle) Plenty outside seating and some within the café. Open every day. Ramp access. Straightforward menu.Minus points – Soup was barely hot enough, which meant it quickly cooled, having it outside. Not licensed. Parking close to the park can be difficult in the summer time.(Ke Kr Ty)

Food was disgusting. I have 2 kids that are far from picky and neither of them are it. Sevice shocking down to the manager shouting her mouth off about customers with their own food. Totally understand where she is coming from but her standing there telling her staff about it is totally unprofessional. Could be a lovely little place if she sorts the food out and her shocking manners! DON'T get the chicken nugget kids meal!!!!! £16 I'd rather have gave away

Overpriced, very poor food quality, poor management and clueless customer service (from management)2 weeks running now a family member (incl a 3yr old child) has had an upset stomach from this place, definitely wont be revisiting, soo much potential with good leadership. I can only imagine its soo overpriced as its a seasonal place (summer demand only)Even the Heinz tomato sauce bottles were refilled at one point, with what can only be described as, an illumonous red toxic waste of some sortOverall a nice setting and great idea to have a collection of toys outside for the children, but as a cafe......

I couple of weeks ago we went inside and the cake on display was mouldy, when we told the waitress she apologised and removed it, to the managers credit she said if we came back she'd give us a free drink by means of an apology. We have eaten here twice and its been hitty missy. the first time I was very impressed. The second time I found my scone dry and bland and my milkshake I ended up leaving because it had a rancid taste. Its set in nice grounds. I cannot fault the waitresses or service, they are smiley and bring your food out without much delay. The cafe itself is really small, not so bad in the warmer seasons when you can sit outside but not ideal in winter.

I must say I discovered this place by accident a while ago whilst driving past Blyth park, I popped in for a takeaway snack and was very impressed.I have since visited with my wife on a couple of occasions...the most recent being 30th May this year. We ordered corned beef pie with chips for lunch....the lunch was very tastey and the pie was big enough to sink a ship. We decided to have some cake to go and was basically offered double the size of cake for normal price, which although tempting I had to refuse as I would never have eaten it all even later that evening. I personally think this is a great little place and have never been disappointed by service, staff or food. I think it's a great addition to the park....as I grew up on Ridley Avenue it's a park I'm very familiar with having walked my dog there for years. I can't believe I've read some reviews saying the place is too small duh!!!! It's a bowling pavilion!!! Lovely little quirky place and somewhere I would have no hesitation in returning to. Wonder if some of the negative brigade like to look for the negatives hmmmmmmm??? and are perhaps thinking wish I thought of opening that.......

Had been out for a walk and went through Ridley Park on the way home. The little café was open and we decided to have a bite to eat. It was a lovely sunny day so we opted to eat outside on the old bowling green.I can't remember what we had to eat but I know that we really enjoyed it! The staff were really friendly and attentive and it was lovely sitting outside but would have been happy to sit inside as it looked great. Made for a perfect end to our walk.

We stopped by chance at The Percy Arms for a drink and ended up eating an amazing meal-Wednesday afternoon and very quiet but the food was delicious and the service excellent. The soup was very tasty and the steak cooked to perfection - we will return!

I’m so sad to see this lovely place closed. It had great staff and atmosphere and a fantastically good smoked haddock chowder. I wish its people all the best and I thank them for all the great visits we’ve had here. I really hope that there might be a replacement cafe of such quality. We’ll watch with interest.

Our introduction to this country pub was to a spacious, comfortable, immaculately clean bedroom, with stunning views of the fells. Next dinner and cooking of Michelin quality. A highlight was the scallop with belly pork, a brilliant dish. Next morning breakfast, again flawless in every respect from the service to the produce. Any prospective dining pub owner/chef should come here to see how it's done.

Generous portions of tasty pub food and some excellent local cask beer. The warmest of welcomes for me and Razzie the border terrier and a special shout out to Adele for looking after me so well!
