After visiting a few places with awful food and service this was really good. Lovely food served by nice people. I have no complaints at all.

The food was great, the service was terrible. More than 20 minutes after arrival before a drinks and food order was taken. Another 10 minutes before drinks arrived, two other couples who arrived after us were served ahead of us, one of those tables receiving their meal before we received our drinks. I was having ginger beer and was asked if I wanted ice, I declined the offer but the drink arrived with ice. 40 minutes after arrival food appeared. The food was delicious but the whole experience was tainted by the poor service. Staff were more concerned with clearing tables than serving customers, despite the place being relatively quiet with customers. The 10% service charge which was not advertised on the menu was declined.

Debated if our experience was a 2 or 3 star, decided to be generous and go with 3 star. The food we had was actually very good, both the starter and main course. However, food was only part of the story. We arrived and walked in, to say it was quiet was an understatment, we stood by the bar and waited to find out where we would be sitting/let the staff know we were here. What we got was just glared at by a blond lady, that to be blunt was just rude. The rudeness continued through most of our meal, it was apparent that this place is someone’s hobby and they are playing at it. The service team were amateur at best, passing red hoist plates across peoples heads, no thought to how tables should be laid out to allow service. This may seem petty, but when you then find out a significant service charge has been added to your bill, its takes a bit of swallowing. Then there was the environment, its a collection of ‘Bric-A-Brac’ throughout, which could work, however the whole place needs a thorough clean, items covered in dust and cobwebs. Interestingly, the food hygiene certification knocked a star down for hygiene not been where it’s should. We paid our bill and came to leave, there is no lights outside, consequently one of our party tripped and fell flat on their face on a muddy, slippery path just as you walk out the door.

This a really great Tea Room. Everything is top quality and made fresh. Scones are excellent and so are main courses In summer there is a secluded courtyard and in winter the inside place is warm, inviting and full of interesting things. This is a real gem of a place

It's a shame to have to write this review as this place is nicely located and the food is really very good. What let it down for us was the extraordinary rudeness of one member of staff who couldn't have made it clearer that we were not welcome. We arrived for an early lunch and when abruptly told by this person that there was no space were happy to leave. However, one of her co-workers (or staff - maybe she owns the place?!) pointed out that there were seats outside and that we could sit there. We were shown to a pleasant courtyard and, after some time, were able to order. Another couple were also there. When the food arrived (not served by the first woman we encountered) we were impressed by the standard and quantity and were enjoying it when its started to rain. Nobody asked us if were OK and after some time, the woman who had originally greeted us, came out and asked the other couple if they wished to come inside. They obviously did. And we were completely ignored. With the occasion ruined, we gave up on lunch and came in to pay. Our nice waitress took our payment whilst our original hostess walked about importantly, ignoring us and making it very clear we had no right to be there. There were three empty tables inside. We left - never to return. I would highly recommend you think of somewhere else to have lunch in the area. Despite the high standard of the food and the general pleasantness of the other staff you may be unfortunate enough to encounter this woman and have the experience ruined.

Delicious prepared and beautifully presented. Fairly standard fare: jackets, soup of the day etc but the chef has a knack for tastiness and getting things right. The potato soup was beautifully blended (no lumps or graininess!) and flavoured with rosemary, and the coffee and walnut vake was superb with just the right amount of icing. The waitresses and kitchen were helpful in adapting my wife's salad.

Interesting tearoom/gift shop. I choose a toasted sandwich in ciabatta bread and coffee . The coffee was good but the sandwich wasn’t in a proper ciabatta (for which £1 extra was charged) which was disappointing . Must say the afternoon teas which were being served looked very good. Negatives were waiting to be seated - we were only people at the time waiting to be searing and had to wait while three staff finished their lengthy discussion which was difficult as I have mobility problems and standing is painful . We were also surprised to see a notice by the till when we were paying that a 10% service charge would be added to bill. Most unusual for this type of eatery! Generally though a pleasant place to eat and friendly staff.

Lovely setting, the food and drink are nice (I know from previous visits), but there is a lack of kindness, especially if you fail to read the "Wait to be seated" signs despite many empty tables, and you must wait a long time as many around us commented on.

What a beautiful place. We came for the first time last year and return often. Everything is homemade and served by happy smiling faces. There is a fabulous courtyard, seating to the front and inside too. And we’ve often just sat and enjoyed a glass of wine or an ice cold beer too! Beside the restaurant there is an amazing walk suitable for families and dog owners, everyone you meet is just so friendly and kind around Sutton on the Forest. This really is the most sublime setting and so close to stork city centre too. The menu is lovely, really beautifully prepared plates and so graciously served by such lovely staff and owners. It’s worth absolutely worth a visit - more than once!

Very pleasant staff and food good but sadly went downhill when I went to pay and read the notice on the till about service charge (you don't see it on the way in). Never been charge that in a tearoom or even in the local pubs and the notice was worded in such a way if you don't pay there was a problem with the staff. I couldn't be bothered to argue and paid up but won't be going back. I am quite happy to leave a tip but at my discretion

Nice spot for a bite to eat , it was very cold when I went but the lady directed me to another section and give me a spot near the heater . I choose a pot of tea and quiche , chips and salad very nice . They served soup too but it was a bit spicy for me and as thought it might be I asked for a small sample ( I’ve done this n other cafes as it’s throwing food and money away if you don’t like it or can’t eat it ) was happy with the items I had and would return again if I was in the area .

If we start with the positives, staff are lovely, very friendly, decor in and out looks great, most of our food was excellent. Areas of concern… The sign outside saying please wait to be seated, they really made us and everyone else wait, to the point most people just went in to find someone. It took nearly 1 hour 20 mins from arrival, ordering and our food being delivered to our table. The facilities clearly have some issues, due to the odour that was being omitted. The place needs some renovation, e.g. the windows are rotten. It took an age for our plates to be cleared and order coffees/desert. We had to go and find someone to ask, despite numerous staff walking past our table. Some of the cakes are no where near as good as others, Coffee & Walnut amazing, Lemon Drizzle terrible.

Popped by for a light lunch and left very pleasantly full. The generous bowl of soup was different (celeriac and watercress), hot and very, very tasty. We shared a plate of smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches: generously filled, beautifully fresh and di delicious. An interesting side salad accompanied and the bowl of chips WOW... my other half declared them the 'best ever chips'! No room for cake or pudding (the ginger sponge pudding sounds lush.) But we took away a couple of scones: light, fluffy and freshly made. The staff are professional, friendly and efficient: guess you might have to wait a little (we didn't) if they were busy: it's a small family business concerned to get things right. Why worry about rushing when it's this good? Do we recommend Daisy's? Silly question. YES!

My mother and I stopped in here on a very wet day to have a cuppa and a dry out.The young lady that served us was very friendly and offered great service. We had the homemade soup, which came with a hot crusty bread roll. Both were delicious. We walked through to the back room which was really quirky. My mother was pleased as they offered green tea which she loves. There is the hall and gardens to visit (on a drier day) and across from the tea room is a little kids park. The car park is nice and wide too. All in all it was a great visit and we really enjoyed it. My only little recommendation would be some sort of baby changing table or mat would be helpful. Please leave a helpful vote if you found my review useful.

Hello there, fellow trip advisors! We went out for a drive on one of those miserable rain filled June days as we were bored. We came across the Miss Daisy tearoom and decided to stop for a cuppa. It was quite nice but a tad busy but we did manage to get a table without any problem. However we did wait for some considerable time to be served and once we place our order we then waited another considerable time for our tea and scones to be served. In the meantime other people coming into the place did not stay due to the waiting time. It became apparent that the lady serving was on her own and so was very, very busy. Tea and scones were fine when they arrived but our experience did not make us want to return any time soon. Sorry Miss Daisy, but just reporting on our experience!

We were driving from York to the North of the county and saw the sign for Miss Daisy's at the side of the road - tucked away next to Sutton Park. It is a delightful little cafe with charming decor and a little gift shop attached. Our tea was served in Staffordshire china crockery and was strong and hot - just how you would expect in Yorkshire! The freshly-made scones were soft and buttery and the cream and jam served in bowls - not the awful pre-packed stuff that is so often served elsewhere. The service from the proprietor was fast and friendly. Don't waste your money in the tourist traps of York. Make your way to Miss Daisy's. It's a real treat.

Called in our way back from Helmsley for a pot of tea and a cake as we had read the article in the York Press last year and it sounded as though it would be nice. We were very disappointed, we were given one menu to share between four and that was rather grubby. We ordered tea and cakes for the four of us. The cups are vintage which is rather a nice touch but one of the cups had a marking inside which at first glances looked as though it was dirty. The coffee and walnut cake was dry. When we came to pay there was no one to be seen, we could quite easily have left without paying. As we were waiting for someone to appear to take our money we noticed flies on the counter and food left uncovered. When the lady did finally come she didn't know what to charge as she had forgotten our order! Not very professional. We were not impressed and will not be returning.

We were staying at Hunton on holiday and wanted a local cafe so that we didn’t have to drive too far, ‘The Nest’ did not disappoint. What an incredible location, really friendly staff and gorgeous scones. Given that my Mum made thousands of them when we had a restaurant (and hers were always delicious), she gave 10/10 for the cherry one and I’d give the same rating for my yummy cheese one. If you like scones, stunning views and cute animals, this is the place for you!

I've always liked Barkers. It reminds me of the old-fashioned department stores my mum used to drag me around when I was a nipper. Although I didn't relish the prospect all those decades ago, I've developed an appreciation of such a fast disappearing establishment as I've matured. My wife and I live a fair distance away, but we've visited many times over the past 30 years. I'll always remember my wife buying a Phase 8 dress for our oldest daughters wedding in 2007. The choice of products available is impressive, and I've always found the service to be equal to it. Our family will be unwrapping numerous articles on Christmas day that have passed across one of the many counters.

Can’t fault the strawberry picking, but the cafe had ran out of all sorts by 2pm. Pizza’s totally overpriced for the size of them and took ages to be cooked. I appreciate the are cooked fresh on a pizza oven but waiting over half an hour with small, hungry children is not ideal. Ordered a ‘meat’ pizza which was in fact just pepperoni, why it isn’t just advertised as being pepperoni I have no idea. The pizza edges were burnt to a crisp (inedible) not the best experience overall won’t be in a rush to return.

I came here with mam for a cuppa, though partly because another place up the street had closed - at half 2! This is a nice little place with disabled access and a mixed toilet, which I didn't have an issue with. They had just stopped serving food when we got there but we weren't hungry anyway after a cooked breakfast at Mainsgill on the A66.
