MisoMiso in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Took our reservation and accepted it but the place was closed when we arrived even though it said it was open on Google, on their own website and on the reservation.

Food, Atmosphere, Service is excellent!

Assumed it was a chain but turns out it’s a family run business, the ramen broth was incredible, 10/10

I enjoyed the shrimp chili ramen . The broth is delicious. The edame appetizer is very satisfying. My husband had the beef bulgogi, very tender. Nice meal on. a rainy day.

We’ve been meaning to pop in here for ages so decided to give it a go. Atmosphere was lovely, front of house staff were very helpful and friendly. We had the pork gyozas and Korean fried chicken for starters, both were delicious! My partner had the Katsu chicken curry and I had the beef dish (cannot remember the name, sorry! But it’s in the photos) - the beef fell apart it was so tender, and my partner who is very hard to please! Said it was one of the best Katsu curries he’s ever had! Lovely evening out, it’s not the cheapest place to eat in town, just shy of £68 for two starters, two mains a beer and a vodka diet; but we think it was worth every penny and will definitely be back!

We were allowed to book a table right when the restaurant opened at 5:30pm, we arrived and the shutters were closed. Somebody opened them half way at 5:37pm and we gave up waiting about 5 minutes later. I refused to eat there purely on the basis of unprofessionalism; if we can book for 5:30 the restaurant should be open and ready for customers at that time. We were very excited for the food too, rip.

5 star, food is delicious 😋 promt service and food was served in matter of minutes. Staff welcomed and gave us a minute to settle down. 100% recommended

Unpretentious pan-Asian restaurant right in the centre of Newquay. Wish we had tried it ages ago. We live in Newquay and it's right up there among the best places to eat. Not fancy surroundings, but a deft and light hand in the kitchen produced some beautiful flavours. Front of house were friendly and overall we left full of lovely food and determined to return.

We are local and I came across this lovely Japanese restaurant by chance. The food was amazing and the service was impressive. Damian pulled out all the stops. He’s friendly, welcoming and very professional. We had the pork gyozas, Japanese fried chicken, Korean beef and the teriyaki fillet steak. Loved it! 🙏😎 x

The best meal we had whilst in Newquay. Food was excellent and tasted great! My partners words were “oh wow” when tasting the JFC. Compliments to the chef. Staff were amazing. Would definitely recommend and will definitely go again when back in Newquay.

Not the best Japanese food I've had... I ordered the King prawn chilli ramen, and was really looking forward to it as its 1 of my favourite dishes. Unfortunately the prawns were definitely frozen before and most tasted stodgy. When your paying high end prices for food, you would expect fresh ingredients. Staff were friendly though and at least they had decent beer of draught...

Really tasty food, both me and my partner enjoyed our meals! As well as the service from friendly staff, nice setting in the heart of Newquay with delicious Japanese/Asian cuisine. Would recommend as portions are good and quality follows suit. Try it yourself if not anything ✌🏼

Food was very good, waiters were very polite, welcoming and experienced. The place was clean. We went back twice.

This was our first visit last night with our friends who have been before and had recommended. Oh my it didn't disappoint the food was absolutely amazing and beyond what I was expecting. The service was first class from the minute we walked in to the minute we left. This will certainly be our go to restaurant on our annual visits to Cornwall

Food was alright but quite pricey, had the Katsu curry and my partner had the Korean beef. Rice wasn’t sticky rice which it claimed was just normal basmati and overall dishes didn’t taste authentic. There was an overuse of peppers and some dishes lacked flavour. However, nice atmosphere and the waitresses were friendly.

Just left the restaurant and was highly disappointed! It was my birthday meal, the main dish tasted awful, noodles tasted as if they were some cheap ones, broth was tasteless and vegetables overcooked. I literally could not eat it and left the dish uneaten. They did not offer a different dish, instead the girl asked if they can make my dish better by adding flavour but I am not a chef and was really upset with my meal. I said I am not happy and don't want to pay for something I cannot eat. They charged for it anyway. Highly do not recommend! Poor service and non authentic cuisine... Chefs definitely not Japanese or the taste would be different!

Ordered veg ramen but lacked taste and depth .

Before Covid we used to come here quite often, this was our first visit back since and to be honest it was disappointing. We’ve tried to visit before but have been put off by the unfriendly bookings only attitude I understand that it’s been a hard time for the hospitality industry but as locals it would be nice to be treated in a friendly manner, just found everyone so rude, and aggressive if you dare to ask if they have a table- people do cancel or not turn up so it’s not that strange to ask. Anyway the actual visit wasn’t great the prices have rocketed and the food and menu have gone downhill. They no longer do the firecracker prawns which is strange because looking at the menu and considering it’s all cooked fresh I can’t see why not. The food wasn’t that tasty, the menu limited. All in all just not as good as it was. The staff were at least friendly but it seems they will only be friendly if you’ve booked. It also lacked atmosphere which is a big drawback for me. Probably won’t come back

Fake Japanese Restaurant. It would be best if you improved. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have a customer. Tempura — This is my first time seeing this fake Prawn Tempura made up of frozen prawns with a teriyaki sauce which costs £9. Terrible. I regret ordering this. Seafood Ramen — made up of frozen seafood such as prawns and squid. Noodles are egg noodles, and broth is not even good. Nothing special in the ingredients. It’s made up of convenience. This costs £21! Pork Ramen — made up of egg noodles and water broth with soybean sauce. This costs £15! Hire a Japanese chef or a chef with a Japanese cuisine background. How could you make such a terrible cuisine? Such a shame! This is an expensive fake Japanese restaurant. Not worth the price! Just serve beer! Beware and don’t ever try this restaurance

Visited MisoMido for the first time on 26th March 2022 for my birthday. It came highly recommended and I'm delighted to say it didn't let us down. Food was amazing staff friendly and helpful. Only thing I'd change is the decor need an injection of colour and ambience. Highly recommend 👌

The staff, their service, location and building were all good. The food was presented beautifully. It was just the taste. Like a few other people have mentioned, I had a big suspicion it might have been fried from frozen, which is fine for some things but it dominated the overall meal. The broth that came with my main was pretty tasteless. I was also a little uninspired by their vegetarian options, which was grilled vegetables and tofu. The main issue we had was that the quality of the food did not reflect the price.

Went here for my daughters birthday. We were made to feel really comfortable and at ease. No pretentious or stuck up at all. A real family atmosphere. They even brought out a cake and the whole restaurant sang happy birthday to her. She was obviously mortified as any 12 year old would be but we thought it was lovely. I highly recommend it lovely food, great atmosphere, friendly staff.

Lovely food had ramen chicken spicy version yeah I eat alot of this type of food can honestly say I appreciate the flavour of the ramen really nice authentic taste Bit pricy but hey it's Newquay I would go again the staff were lovely and polite and can't complain at all very nice

Place we wanted to go to was closed so ended up here by coincidence. Upon walking through the doors 7pm was turned away and told that they were fully booked, despite many tables being free. Understand that people could have reservations and such. Went to a nearby pub and booked a table for 9pm on OpenTable. Received a phone call 10 minutes later saying they're closing an hour earlier. So wanted to move forward the reservation to 8pm. Showed up at 8pm to a cold welcome, was told what they didn't have and left to our own devices. The amusing thing was all the customers were the same as the ones at 7pm who hadn't been tended to and left with empty plates, the tables that were free at 7pm, we're, still free... The food was okay. Certainly not authentic. We had the pork ramen. The pork was alright but the broth was essentially water and soy sauce. Also had the Asian fried chicken. Unfortunately serving it with Japanese mayo doesn't really make it Asian fried. It's quite clear that the staff just wanted to get everyone out and go home. If I lived in the area I definitely wouldn't go back.

Food was brilliant and really nice staff!

Visited and ordered the Katsu Curry. While what I received was edible, it was definitely not as advertised. I received a bowl of curry flavoured watery soup with basmati rice, topped with packet pre-fried onions and a pre-breaded and I suspect frozen chicken pieces. Not a sign of panko breadding in sight. Won't bother returning to try further dishes if this is the best they can manage for a simple one.

This restaurant is at the top of my list after spending a week in Newquay. The food was spot on! Absolutely fantastic. The staff were very attentive and were happy to change the dish to suit my children's needs. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff very friendly. I'd have to book in advance next time as we were so lucky to get the last table of the night! So glad we did! The restsurant is hidden in town and not near the beach. Its a hidden gem. Definitely worth it!

Most enjoyable and flavoursome.

As Miso Miso’s Google ratings and the friend (who comes to Newquay for 15 years) I went with suggest, this place used to have really good food. Unfortunately, that has changed since COVID/Brexit. Food: The Bang Bang Cauliflower just felt wrong and the “bang bang” (?) sauce didn’t deserve the name; maybe “poof” sauce would be more adequate. The mains were average (beef bulgogi) and shocking (seafood ramen). The beef bulgogi was quite greasy but that at least gave it some taste. The seafood ramen, which were advertised to contain prawns and locally sourced catch of the day, were plain awful: Maggi cubes would have been a serious upgrade to the broth as it was so tasteless and bland. The noodles were raw. The catch of the day seemed to consist of salmon (I’m not an expert, but I don’t think Cornwall is famous for its locally caught salmon) and frozen (and reheated to lukewarm temperature) squid. Everything was a bit raw and tasteless. Drinks: The 250ml sake came in a large wine glass and the waiter asked whom it was for. We pointed out the little carafes behind the bar. Unfortunately, by that point it was refilled into the appropriate glassware it was fairly cold. Service: The waiters were all friendly, but Miso Miso’s owners really seemed to not have put in any effort to train them (sake in a Japanese place is probably not an outrageously exotic order) properly. [Or is it the lack of qualified European staff? Shhhhh]. The chef should be fired. After the meal (we spent >£100 between the two of us, my friend went inside to use the restroom and was stopped by the chef, who confronted my friend and said “mate, I saw you walk in; the toilet is just for paying guests”. Firstly, he was decently dressed and I am the only one who can call him a tramp. Secondly, mate, the food is not good enough for you to have an attitude. Stay away from hospitality and any kitchen. Verdict: Lockdowns and Brexit under the microscope – a case study. The outcome is not a good one.

Good service but disappointing overpriced food. Too much sauce on the dishes which tasted quite artificial / processed, the food lacked real flavour & it was not authentic Asian food.

The staff were all really lovely and friendly. They were very kind to accommodate our group when they were already heavily booked for the evening. The food was so lovely and tasty. Really enjoyed my veggie rice bowl & gyoza. Lots of flavour. Also enjoyed the local cornish cider

Rung up to book a table, and they promised to ring us back to confirm, they did not, so when I rung up to enquire, we were told last minute that they were unable to fit us in. Pretty unacceptable service.

Nice Japanese restaurant in the town centre of Newquay. Lovely looking , tasty food and and menu choices. They also have a very good service. Loved the presentation, taste and quality of the food I ordered. They are nicely located too with parking spaces nearby and easy walks to ice cream shops for the deserts. Recommend a visit!

We enjoyed a fantastic meal at this Japanese Restaurant,staff are so lovely and very attentive all goverment rules adhered too and we were asked if we would like to stay and watch the Finals of Euros 2020 which was really kind we can highly recommend this Restaurant.

Friendly staff, most unreal Asian food I have had in a long time! Conpliments to the chef for absolutely smashing that meal of ours! Definitely book ahead and get to this little resturant on your visit to Newquay. Such bold flavours and amazing balance in the dishes, would definitely recommend to all those who visit! Can't wait for our next visit, hopefully a new dessert addition will be available by then.

Lovely food and nice restaurant with ambience

Really enjoyed out first visit to MisoMiso. We both had the Buddha bowl with Korean beef and it was delicious. Every forkful was a different experience. The beef was melt in the mouth and the chilli dressing on the watercress and pea shoots was just the right heat. The fragrant rice was so good too. Highly recommended. I had a pint of the Asahi lager too, which was very good. Please note that the restaurant is quite small and I would recommend booking a few days in advance to make sure you aren't disappointed.

Nice atmosphere, clean and modern interior. Service was good. Unfortunately the ramen wasn't great, our table ordered teriyaki ramen (both chicken and pork) and it didn't have any flavour. The noodles and veg were bland. I really would not recommend it. Others members had teriyaki noodles which was nice and had flavour. I guess the moral of the story is do not order ramen if you eat here.

Absolutely brilliant Japanese food with authentic flavours. Plentiful vegetarian options. We started off with bang bang Cauliflower, gyoza and harita buns which were very tasty. fried noodle is probably the best I've had in a long time. Highly recommended if your are in Newquay.

We had a table for 6 booked but were unable to go due to some of our party getting ill while on a fishing trip. We called the restaurant to amend the booking but kept getting the answer machine. When we finally spoke to someone to cancel our table they accepted. The next day I noticed they charged my card £60. When I called them they said that's their policy. I asked if we could rebook the table for the next night and explained again that some of us had been too ill to go out but the manager refused to let us rebook or discount/waive the fee and kept repeating that their policy is to charge.

Good selection of Asian food. Very good food nicely cooked, nothing pretentious or over priced. Will definitely go back.

Delicious catch of the day meals and friendly staff. No pics as everything was devoured as soon as it arrived. Still gutted they didn't offer miso soup on the menu though.

OMG the food was out of this world. Huge portions, you never leave there hungry 😁 Delicious flavours, which I have since learnt that the Head chef/manager creates his own sauces and flavours. His new ice cream and sobet range are out of this world, a must order for anyone .Superb customer service from all staff, made to feel very welcome. Very fast service, food came out piping hot. 5 star rating doesn't do this restaurant the justice it so rightly deserves. I would give it 100 stars.

I have eaten here several times and have to say it is THE BEST restaurant in Newquay, the food is amazing ( I never liked Asian food until I was persuaded to eat at Miso Miso ), the staff are all proffessional and friendly and the restaurant is very clean. Having read another rather long review I must say that in my opinion the writer of that review was somewhat disgruntled by the unwanted attention from passers by, not the fault of the restaurant, and that led him to write a scathing review, apart from anything else, who does this person think he is calling the chef a tramp, sounds like a nasty little human to me.

Went there tonight and the food was outstanding!! Some of the best Japanese / pan Asian food around. Friendly staff, Highly recomend!

Tasty food. I had the spicy ramen like one of the reviewers below and actually thought it was very good. Like they say the pork was not the same as traditional ramen but mine was very tasty. Other food delicious too and they have asahi on tap!

I was in Newquay on Saturday 19th Sept. There were 4 of us, one a vegetarian. I had the best king prawn tempura starter ever and my main of Katsu chicken was excellent. All of the party enjoyed their meals. The cocktail drinks were excellent. Good service and a nice place to be. Look forward to visiting again soon

Nice tasty food, reasonably priced.

Having just arrived Newquay we went looking for a meal this was the only restrant that would accommodate us what a find all l can say excellent well done to all the staff well worth a visit

Came here craving ramen while in Cornwall and came across this spot. Thought it was too good to be true. Sad to say, unfortunately, it was. Ordered the Spicy Pork Ramen and don’t even know where to begin. Broth was entirely flavorless and had to drown the bowl in siracha and soy sauce to give it flavor. The noodles were spaghetti. The pork wasn’t remotely close to char siu. If you’ve ever had ramen before, you’ll agree this isn’t it. Just resist the temptation and don’t order it here. The other dishes we had were good though. Given the disappointment from the ramen and steep prices, not sure I’d return again.

Fabulous food and really helpful friendly staff. The price is very reasonable too. I would say that if you visit on a chilly evening wear warm clothes as the doors are left open, possibly due to the current virus. We will definitely return and try some other dishes 😃😃

Absolutely beautiful food, easy access, great service, katsu chicken curry is so nice had it 3 times while on holiday, lovely dining, outdoor seating, less then 5 minutes away from car park which is free after 4 o'clock, brilliant for an evening meal or a date

Fitted us in for a last minute lunch on the eat out to help out offer. Buddha bowl 10/10, pork buns 10/10, especially for a first try, relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Possibly one of the worst tasting "Asian" restaurants I've ever experienced. The flavors are bland at best. My girlfriend and I ordered a veggie ramen, teriyaki soba chicken noodles, and bang bang cauliflower appetizer. The appetizer was at least tasty, but once again, all flavors that I can recreate in my own kitchen easily. The ramen was a dish that absolutely should not be presented in a restaurant or served to anyone as a 'ramen'. It disrespected the glorious dish that is proudly served elsewhere that is often cooked for hours with fresh ingredients and a rich vegetable broth. This was basically heated tomato stock mixed with some stir fried vegetables. We needed to add copious amounts of Sriracha to get any flavor out of it. Whatver noodles they used for the dish should never be served for human consumption. The teriyaki soba dish lacked creativity and were some stir fried noddle presented with sliced chicken breast on top. I consumed the dish solely for the protein within it, we both left the disastrous ramen dish 3/4 empty. I suppose this restaurant is fine for someone who's never experienced true Asian flavors outside this city but if you're looking for an authentic flavor look elsewhere. The two stars are for the wonderful hospitality and staff.

Me and my partner were on holiday and wanted to treat ourselves to some nice ramen and that’s definitely what we got! Being veggies, we often find vegetarian ramen lacking in flavour but the broth was amazing! We also got veggie tempura which was lovely and crisp, and the gyoza which were made fresh. Will definitely come again when we’re next in the area!

Delicious meal. We have ordered teriyaki ramen with pork meat and fresh vegetables. Very kind service and simple/ cosy interior. Good value for money. Portions are big and food is very tasty. Menu is varied and a list of drinks is very long. I recommend to book a table, because can be busy in peak time. Great location (in the centre & near to the beach) so it is really easy to find it.
