Best flavours in Chalfont St Giles at a reasonable price. The dishes were tasty, well cooked and balanced flavour dishes, all cooked to order. Waiter very friendly and we were greeted with a big smile. Chalfont St Giles, use it or lose it and that will be another restaurant lost to the village, which would be a shame as our meal tonight was delicious, 22nd March 2024.

Thought I'd add some balance here after reading the last two reviews. I've been frequenting Miltons for years now and I don't recognise the reviews. Maybe an off day, but certainly not my experience. I use Miltons for both sit in and take away. It is quiet during the week, which is nice actually when eating in the restaurant, but I know the kitchen turnover is fresh due to take away and delivery orders too IMO the quality of the ingredients are really good and very reasonably priced The menu is comprehensive and I know it has not increased in price at all for years This is a nice authentic Indian family business, lovely people working there - and worth patronising. Give it a try.

No idea how they are still in business. Clearly all made from a mass produced purée. King Prawn Madras, Prawns were tiny shrimps. I recently moved to the area, was looking forward to a good local Indian. Not worth eating.

Friday night and no-one in the place; for good reason. Takeaway order, over-charged in apparent error and simply terrible food. Madras and Bhuna both could have been made from a cheap jar and mixed with bisto or gravy granules/water . Rice was a congealed lump of hard glue like substance . Onion Bhajets reheated leftovers saturated in old oil. Nam bread; stale and rubbed in presumably margarine. Unfit for consumption. Interior is filthy and see "scores on the doors" for hygiene report. A real shame - Chalfont St Giles needs a decent place. It needs a complete overhaul or closure, from a deep clean to then simply freshly cooked food. One star is too much, but unable to leave zero.

Our preferred food when travelling is Indian/Asian but this was our first visit to Milton's. We so enjoyed our meal - it was all delicious - and we will definitely return. So many Indian restaurants in the UK serve food smothered with heavy, fatty gravy but at Milton's both our dishes were prepared the authentic way that we've enjoyed so much in India - fragrant, light, flavoursome sauces with just the right level of piquancy. Even the naans were a perfect combination of both body and lightness. The ambience of the restaurant (a gorgeous traditional cottage style) is also a refreshing change from the typical furniture and decor. As with all good food though eat it freshly cooked at the restaurant - don't destroy it by getting it delivered on the back of a moped!! Thank you again for such a great meal. Paul & Heather

I guess most reviews depend on your personal baseline. Having eaten curries all over Britain this one was all round very poor. The Tandoori mixed grill is normally one of the flagships of an Indian restaurant, however this was very bland, no flavour or colouring and just not great. Also didn't contain a Shish kebab. The two chicken curries were ok, however the chicken was overcooked and wasn't sure whether is was actually cooked in the curry sauce or added later. With a large menu/selection and about 4 people in the restaurant on a Saturday night, I guess one way of managing and maintaining a very the large selection would be to add the meat to the curry sauce after its been ordered. Initial drinks order was for specifically a cold bottle of Cobra beer, which came out warm. I then specifically asked again with my second bottle to be cold. This was forgotten, and when reminded was told it was put in the freezer to make cold. Again this came out warmish when served. The woman was friendly enough, however she seemed at a very slow pace to understand. A small child associated with the restaurant was hanging around as well, which was off putting. This restaurant would struggle if it had any sort of competition.

We had a takeaway on the Thursday before Xmas - not expecting a lot because we were disappointed with our last meal from Milton's but wanted to support a local restaurant who experienced a nasty incident recently. We were very pleasantly surprised - everything (starters, mains, side and breads) were all very good. Significantly, the food was tasty and not obviously full of sugar, which has been an issue for the past. Unfortunately, we don't eat inside anywhere at the mo' due to Covid but will be back for takeaways a bit more often now and look forward to being able to eat on the premises..

Excellent! Fresh food all freshly cooked on site to order by the owner with delicious individual flavours. This was our second visit in 6 weeks and the food was of a consistently high standard. Onion Bhajis were light, dry and crispy, tarka dhal was thick and full of flavour, the best I’ve tasted (and I have tasted a lot) chicken shashlick was sizzling and the chicken perfectly balanced with peppers and onions. Side dishes included mushroom and pilau rice, (good portions, light and fluffy), sag bhaji (dry and tasty) and the Naan bread was light and crispy. The other dishes I didn’t taste were a Bombay aloo, a masala sauce, a lamb madras, which I was told was spicy with good heat and a tandoori mixed grill which was well cooked and tasty. The only downside to this visit was that they were short staffed and therefore service was slow, but, we were warned in advance that it would take a bit longer. Given it was a Saturday night with takeaway service going on at the same time, they coped admirably and were nothing but friendly and polite. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was definitely worth the wait. Possibly on the pricey side but I’d highly recommend you give it a try. We will definitely go back and we will also try the takeaway

Experienced our first take-away (delivery) since lockdown and it didn't disappoint. The delivery arrived on schedule and the quality of the food was as good as it had been pre-lockdown. The chicken tender and the prawns succulent ranging over a variety of dishes. All extremely flavoursome which is something that we have come to expect from Miltons and they have yet to fall short of their high standards. The value for money aspect was as previous too i.e. excellent. We'll very certainly be contacting them again in the near future as things gradually return to a level of normality. I'd certainly recommend giving them a try if you're in range.

We have been visiting this curry house for takeaway more often since lockdown started and I've been increasingly impressed with the food. The vegetarian and side dishes eg Sarah panir are of course the best of any local restaurant because Indian cuisine is most experienced in this regard but I have also been delighted with the chef's recommendations. Last night he suggested lamb bada gosht which was another hit. If you haven't eaten here in a while, try it again, you might be surprised.

We hadn't eaten here for years as it was always a pretty poor Indian. However, we had a menu through the door and the food looked interesting. Also, the prices were high so we thought the quality was going to be good. What a disappointment! The food was completely tasteless, the tandoori chicken was bright red (real tandoori chicken is brown, not red) and the value for money was terrible. We paid over £30 for two mains and three sides, 50% more than we normally pay for an Indian. We won’t be buying from there again, despite it being only five minutes walk from our house. What a shame! If they’re going to charge such high prices they need to get a proper chef.

Dropped by for a bite to eat as I was staying in the village on business. Very disappointed. I ordered a Maharaja Balti, which was supposed to be chicken breast and minced lamb. When it arrived there was no minced lamb, but a diced Sheek kebab. 'Well it is made out of mince meat' the waiter reasoned. The meal was tasteless and the Roti breads were either stale or over cooked as the bottoms shattered on touching. The side I ordered which was spinach and cheese, was left practically uneaten, one taste was enough. Not the worse Indian meal I have had, but it's in the top 2.

After not using this place in years, we heard it was worth trying again . Initially we were going to eat in but it was a really hot stuffy night and they said they didn’t have air con, so we didn’t book for that evening. The following week we thought we’d try a take away , as it is only minutes away from home, therefore we could collect and eat nice hot food. Most of the food was above warm in temperature, so that was fine, but it was so bland in taste. The prawn dish sounded wonderful and tasty, supposedly garnished with fresh corriander. Disappointingly it was neither of these things. The chicken in the curry was quite rubbery and again not very tasty. What a shame . We wouldn't bother trying again.

I think we've eaten in or had take out from Milton's once a week since moving to the area and we've never been disappointed, in fact we look forward to having visitors so we can take them. The banquet nights are simply excellent value. It's fair to say that Milton's isn't high end, but it does what it does, well. The menu is what you'd expect, with all the usual favourites plus some chefs specials. The quality of the dishes is high, and having sampled many of them I can testify that they don't all taste the same (as is often the case with some Indian restaurants). The quality doesn't decrease when ordered to take away either, with the food well packaged and always hot. The atmosphere in the restaurant is fine but we are often the only ones in there, which is a real shame. The service is excellent, the usual waiter is attentive and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. I really can't recommend enough.

In my opinion the food quality has gone downhill. Following a recent management change I think they have swapped a chef for a cook who just heats up prepacked Indian food. It reminds me of one of those cheap restaurants that you get in the Midlands. They've misjudged the market for the Chilterns. There's a lot of better quality Indian restaurants in this area.

When they first opened it had 'teething troubles' but they appear top be well behind them. The staff are very nice, The food is reliably good and a reasonable price.I particularly like the selection of starters - some of which are so generous they could be a main course for someone with a modest appetite. I have never found that it was not possible to get a table (I agree with the other reviewer who said, they do deserve more customers).I wonder if parking could discourage people but there is nothing that can be done as it is an old village. The 'main village car park' is not a long walk away and anyway it is possible to park on the road a bit closer to the shops in the village. If I had one criticism it would be the lighting. It is like a shop cafe, way too bright for an evening relaxed dinner (I would say). Definitely not romantic ;0)I will definately be going back.

Having just moved into Chalfont St. Giles the Miltons Tandoori is a few minutes walk from my house. Looking at the previous mixed reviews I didn't go for dinner with great expectations. However, I shouldn't have worried, the food is very good here and the welcome both friendly and efficient, with pappadoms and drinks on the table almost as soon as we had sat down. Service after that was leisurely with about 30 minutes wait before our main courses (we didn't have starters) were on the table. The restaurant wasn't busy with only about 12 people dining throughout our time there BUT I think the kitchen was much busier with a steady flow of take-away customers coming to collect their meals. The dining room to the left of the bar doesn't have much ambience and the main room to the right of the bar didn't seem to be in use. Our dishes main (chicken dhansak & Chicken shaslick were tasty and well presented, the spicing was very good and the side dishes (sag bhaji, tarka dhal, onion bahji and pashwari nan) were great.Prices are reasonable as well.We will definitely be making this our 'local' curry house in future.

With so much average, bland Indian food around these days, it was great to experience dishes with clear flavours for a change. Had my standard 'let's see how well they do it' dish: Lamb Dhansak, which was a real pleasure to eat. My plain nan was moist and had been freshly cooked, again unlike so many places where they can be dried out. Also tried my wife's Rogan Josh, same clear taste and delightfully spicy. Vegetable dishes were good too, so everyone round the table came away full and happy. Service was friendly. The ambience is a little lacking, but that's not what I look for at an Indian restaurant. Once seated I asked for a dish that wasn't on the main menu, which was accepted without any problem. Happy days. My partner had a fairly common dish. The service was very good. However , my dish ( a chicken dish), was made with reconstituted chicken which had no texture and wasn't very pleasant to eat. My partners dish had, what looked like ,fresh chicken breast. Can't understand why mine was different. Both dishes tasted very sweet , in fact too sweet. Despite the pleasant surroundings and warm welcome from the staff , I couldn't in all honesty recommend the establishment as a good place to have a curry. Sorry to say.

Make sure you book in advance to let them know you're planning to visit so that they can spoil you completely and to book your table overlooking the historic Milton's Cottage.

We have been using this restaurant for almost 7 years from take-aways to dining in. The food is lovely and always delivered with a smile.

We have been using this restaurant for about 15 years and it has always delivered - certainly one of the best Indian restaurants around.

We used to be regulars in this restaurant for years but it went so badly downhill that we stopped going..Recently we visited for old times sake and it was awful. We could have done better ourselves with a bottle of "Pataks". Food very poor. Enough said,, A real pity.!

We were staying in Chalfont St Giles and stumbled upon this restaurant, unfortunately although the portions of food were good it all lacked flavour. The service was good and the waiters pleasant. They definately need a new chef, all just very bland. If you want quantity and not quality then it's ok. Not happy about the 10% service charge automatically added to the bill, we like to tip according to service and food quality.

The service is very good in this comfortable Indian restaurant, in a lovely building with great views. Mainly traditional dishes, but some new twists make for interesting dishes

I had not visited for some time because quite frankly the standard of food was so variable. However,I noticed that a previous reviewer had said there had been a change of management..........not so...........still the same old crowd.True the premises have been nicely redecorated but the menu etc was the same as before. The food and service(although friendly) were both indifferent. Not a night to remember.

We had takeaway from here last week. New owners I have to say one of the nicest Indian meals I've had in a long time. Huge portions and the moistest chicken, it was yum.

Food was very good and service was fine. Reasonably priced.I wasn't happy with the 10% service charge being automatically to my bill but couldn't be bothered with hassle of challenging it so I just paid it.

Reading some of the recent reviews made me wonder if I had been in the same restaurant. We visited after the recent refurbishment and the meal we had was the worst we have ever had in an Indian restaurant for many a year,it was almost inedible. The waiting staff are delightful but the owner tends to interfere too much, particularly with the kitchen, resulting in poor quality "shaved down" food and then he has the cheek to add 10% service charge.Refurbishment is fine but people frequent a restaurant for the food!

I have eaten here twice with my husband and once had take away and its a very good value. There is a nice atmosphere as well. We were able to occupy our table and relax with out feeling rushed. I am not too familiar with indian cuisine and the waiter explained a few dishes to me and helped me select a not too spicy dish. Parking is a slight issue but its worth the 7 point turn to eat there. Hopefully we will be back soon.

Milton's is one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to. Fabulous food with a range of interesting dishes, attentive service and fair pricing. I would recommend it.

I have used this restaurant many times over the last few years, although less so in recent times as the standard of food had fallen sharply.Gave it another go recently and I was very disappointed with the mediocre offerings. It is a great pity as this restaurant used to be amongst the best. The waiting staff are very friendly and helpful and can hardly be held responsible for what comes out of the kitchen.Management need to look at the quality of similar establishments in the area and LEARN.
