The choice of so many different dishes and friendly but polite service made our lunch a very enjoyable experience. The food was very well presented and very tasty. Being able to sit outside in the covered area looking over the well kept grounds added to the experience

This was our 4th evening visit and once again it didn’t disappoint. We have always found the food to be well presented and delicious. The menu always seems to change slightly and with the addition of the specials there is always something new to try. The staff are attentive and friendly. We were sat next to the kitchen which didn’t bother us, in fact we enjoyed listening to some of the “banter”.

Lovely hotel. Great location but unfortunately the restaurant was very disappointing. Went there for my birthday with my husband waited ages for our food ( mains were deducted! After a word to restaurant manager !) It was very noisy cold and just basically like a school class room . Chefs shouting at each other as kitchen open to diners !. Not at all relaxing or enjoyable. Was a great shame ! .

Been here a couple of times for celebration lunches and decided to visit for lunch on Sunday but was disappointed from start to finish. The restaurant was not full there were plenty of spare tables inside and out, couldn’t eat outside due to dogs and smoking so sat inside. We were given a table near the kitchen which was rather loud. Take a while to get the starters once ordered as for mains it was nearly an hour later we got these no one told us if there was a delay in food we had two children who were getting rather ratty we also ordered water with ice the first order did not get delivered so we asked again the water got delivered the ice did not. The food was ok, their were staff standing around by the kitchen who looked to be having a disagreement, other tables were waiting to get the bill and when we paid we did not tip due to the time it took to get the food and what felt like an effort to get service. Really disappointed we won’t rush back which is a shame.

Went to Milsoms for dinner with my husband. We have been going there for years and always been really good. Unfortunately, this time we were very disappointed. When we approached the bar, we asked for a table for two. We were told to just go and sit wherever we like. Once we sat down, we waited for 15 minutes with no staff interaction. The place wasn't busy to warrant the long wait. Unfortunately after waiting and didn't even getting a drink we got up and left. Once again, nobody paid any attention. Such a shame.

What has happened to Kesgrave Hall.? Used to be one of our favourite haunts. First, the decor. All the atmosphere has been stripped out and the restaurant now looks like a branch of IKEA - all pale grey with flimsy chairs and tables. Then the food. - I ordered Chicken Kiev which came without the garlic butter! At least they offered me a free dessert in compensation. My friend ordered “market fish” which came without any vegetables. When she asked for potatoes a big bowl of plain boiled potatoes arrived - far more than she could eat, and charged at an extra £4.25. On top of over £20 for a bit of fish this seemed like a bad joke. Shall not be returning .

We had given an ‘afternoon tea for two’ as a wedding gift. Your staff were very attentive. Extremely polite and very smartly dressed. Could not fault the service or food at all. The afternoon tea was delightful. We didn’t manage to eat everything so we had the cakes boxed up. Well, I’ve tried macaroons and never liked them, but these ones were absolutely amazing! Top marks for a wonderful experience. The table close to us were a bit rowdy, which was absolutely fine, they were excited, celebrating something nice hopefully, but one woman clearly couldn’t handle her drink, she proceeded to sit on the floor by the tables to smoke her cigarette! No etiquette and to smoke when people are eating was a disgrace.

This venue is stunning and local for me. Its lovely and relaxed atmosphere. Nice i can take my dogs along. However i am disappointed in the service. Ive been many times and i dont go at busy times. Whenever i would like another drink or even to order i always have to catch someone walking past or take my order to a member of staff. Its very over priced for this level of service. The staff are very polite and smart but not attentive. Today someone joined our table and no one approached us to see if she'd like anything. I felt i should write a review as this is the case everytime i come and although i dont want someone offering me something every 10 minutes i would like to feel im being taken care of just a check back or offer more drinks would be useful. We had some amazing desserts today also.

Arrived for lunch with my sisters at 2.00pm when the restaurant was not particularly busy. We ordered drinks and had to remind staff when they failed to arrive after 15 mins. Placed food order and starters arrived after an acceptable wait but then we waited 75 mins for our main courses, having had to ask a waitress where they were. Two mains arrived with an apology but were told that the third was not yet ready!! When it did eventually arrive, we asked for mayonnaise and ketchup, these failed to materialise so we asked a different waitress who then brought them. We’d almost finished our mains when the original waitress turned up with the sauces! She was most surprised that we’d already got some - did she expect us to wait for 20 minutes until she could be bothered to bring some? She did say that we would not be charged for our wine as we’d had to wait for our food. Next we asked her for some more water - her response was to lean across my plate to get the empty bottle - how rude!!! I think the problem is that the waiting staff are all very young and have not been trained in basic customer service. Consequently, we did not leave a tip. We had a pleasant afternoon, simply as we were enjoying each others company, good weather and pleasant surroundings.

Had a reason to celebrate so visited Milsoms as it has a reputation for being a nice restaurant in the local area. Being a special occasion I ordered venison as I like to have something I’d probably not cook at home. I ordered chips as a side as I was hungry. The venison arrived with a whole caramelised onion, this was £27. The chips were £4.90. The venison was nice but the overall price really soured my mouth. The service was very average and trying to get attention of the young staff was very hard. It was a very quiet day too. Not happy, over priced and sadly I’m hearing many similar reviews. Potentially this place could be fantastic but there’s a lot of work to do.

My starter of venison koftas from the specials of the day menu, just lovely. Had Fish pie from the main menu after. Well certainly not a traditional fish pie, but possibly the best I've ever had. A little bit of space left for a dessert. Had a passion fruit pannacotta off the specials of the day menu. Fantastic. We had a table for four. Visited here last night just for drinks (Sunday evening of the bank holiday weekend) unexpectedly at around 6pm as was driving passed with my wife, 9 year old daughter and my mother-in-law! Haven't been since before lockdown as previous experiences haven't been great with slow service and miserable looking staff along with items being added to our tab that we hadn't ordered or consumed which apparently happened quite a lot having spoken to others about this on many occasions. It was quiet at the bar so served quickly although again all four members of staff standing behind the bar looked miserable and although I made eye contact with at least three of them, there was still no look of enthusiasm or happiness about them! It was a lovely night so we sat outside on the white chairs out in the open which are the first lot you get to from the car park. We have sat inside before but it's gets ridiculously hot due to the kitchen being part of the restaurant! My wife and daughter ordered a second round of drinks and a doughnut offering from the dessert menu for my daughter to be told that the doughnuts could only be consumed in the dining area either inside or under the marquee although there were no tables available under the marquee area as either full or reserved. A little disgruntled at this point although the member of staff did address this with the manager who very quickly confirmed rules are rules so unless we sat in the dining area we couldn't have the doughnuts! Whilst drinking our drinks a group on another of the white tables takes delivery of chips with their drinks (where food is not allowed to be consumed) and when challenging the waiter we are told that bar snacks are OK to be eaten there which at no point was explained to us when trying to order the doughnuts. The waiter agreed that it didn't make any sense and said he would report it back to his manager but that was the last we heard of the matter! I get that the desserts may be served on a nice plate but why not offer them in a bowl or make us aware of a snack menu or offer to get us a table when one becomes free? MY daughter is only 9! She isn't worried about presentation. For the prices this place charges and also having read a lot of the other reviews you would think they might up their game a little but it seems to me that the staff are always right and the customer isn't important here. When deciding where to go for dining out or drinks which we do a lot, this place is never on the radar for us anymore but decided to give it a go as we were passing and we wish we hadn't bothered.

The location & grounds are beautiful & I can see why it is used as a wedding venue but it was not clearly signed as to where the entrance was. The staff were polite & all well presented but very busy so it was difficult to catch one to take our order. We had the champagne afternoon tea at £33pp & I must say I was expecting better. The scones were fresh & warm albeit stingy on the clotted cream. The sandwiches were tasty but had barely any filling & were clearly not made to order as the bread was beginning to go dry on the outside. The desserts plate was lacklustre. Having had many an afternoon tea as a treat over the years I was expecting bone china & a nice tea lounge with tablecloths in an estate as impressive looking as this but was disappointed to discover that the dining area was more like a busy pub restaurant with plain wooden tables, basic breakfast tea pots / cups & very loud as they were serving every menu option in the same room. (The smell of fish & chips wafting around during an afternoon tea was unexpected!) None of the staff were wearing masks, social distancing was non-existent & there was no sign of hand sanitiser anywhere. Regrettably I heard some bad things on the venue over the pandemic, issues with basic things like a round of drinks, lacking customer service…. I opted to wait until full restrictions allowed a proper meal without the drama so some friends and I had a meal on Saturday afternoon outside under the canopy. Whatever happened during the pandemic has been resolved and we faced no issues with anything; good service and great food. I can recommend the prosciutto salad starter and the fillets of plaice fish main is a show stopper. Light fillets of plaice in a mussel and prawn veloute served with sea herbs mashed potatoes. Mouth watering! The good old reliable Milsoms is back!

The first impression was definitely poor... we ordered the organic breads and oils and the dipping dish which was brought separately was filthy.Interesting menu and two of us odered the lamb. It came and was tasty if not very hot.. asked for more sauce which came quickly, poured it, it was stone cold. Dish ruined. The children's burger was burned. Not impressive. Nice staff though.

Great food, especially the fresh fish. Perhaps slightly overpriced. Fantastic view and place to eat - outside seating slightly crowded. Service good be better, for the price paid I’d hope for my order to be taken by a server rather than doing it myself.

Lovely setting ,stairs from car park (I have a replacement knee but not disabled) very difficult to manoeuvre, was served very quickly and while the afternoon tea looked very nice ,for the price we thought not great value ,certainly had better elsewhere .We did want another coffee but in the hour we was there not one person asked if everything was ok! And my wife tried to get attention, didn’t get another coffee.I had a afternoon tea gift, but the price had gone up by £1 per person and we were charged .

We had a wonderful lunch for our wedding anniversary at Kesgrave Hall. The menu had a good deal of choice and specials, including a Vegan menu with multiple options. We both had an exceptional meal. I have been vegan for over 30 years and my warm carrot salad starter was one of the best dishes I have had. Truly exceptional food. The staff were warm and quietly attentive and made our day special. Can highly recommend for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans alike.

As good as it was before the lockdown! Pleasant and informal atmosphere. Friendly staff. Excellent & quality food, well presented. Good choice of small and larger dishes. No need to book. Suitable for couples and families. Plenty of parking. Large grounds. A good experience all round!

Only went for supper so can’t comment on the hotel or spa, but having previously eaten there before Milsoms acquired it we were rather disappointed. Food was incredibly rich (which maybe some people go for), but not particularly flavoursome. The sauce with my tortellini was far too garlicky - even as a garlic lover - and my wife’s vegan pasta was served with warmed red salad leaves which are bitter at the best of times, really don’t work heated though. Her aubergine starter was overpowered by vinegar as almost everything on the plate was pickled. Staff didn’t seem to know the drinks menu at all and bizarrely we were told we needed to wait 45 minutes for a table but by the time we were seated it was half empty in there - perhaps a ploy to force people to pay for drinks and nibbles beforehand I wonder? The only redeeming factors were the chips and a lovely, inexpensive Italian red - not a great sign for a bill of £115 for 2 courses… Nice spot for a drink or cocktail, would probably go elsewhere for food afterwards though.

It was my 67th birthday yesterday and it could be my last because I have inoperable cancer. I therefore wanted to go somewhere nice last night. My wife and I had originally booked another restaurant. However, when we arrived at the first place (i.e. the Hand in Hand in Trimley) we were turned away because they didn't serve food after 7pm . We were disgusted that the telephone BOOKING we had made meant nothing at all to the Hand in Hand staff. However, when we arrived at MILSOMS, the whole evening changed for the better!! A very polite and efficient young man called Nathan (who was running the Milsoms restaurant last night) welcomed us in a professional way and we were given free drinks as it was my birthday. We were found a table very quickly and had a lovely three course meal. Good food, great tastes, well cooked and presented. Nothing was too much trouble for Nathan and his colleagues last night. They all did their best to give everyone in the restaurant a great evening in what must be difficult for all restaurants at the present time. I have worked in five star hotels myself (e.g. the Lygon Arms in Broadway etc) and know good service when I experience it. I want to say a very big !Thank you" to Nathan especially for everything he did last night to make our experience so memorable and enjoyable. Nathan is an extremely good man to have in charge of the restaurant and I will always try to go to the restaurant when he is on duty. Milsom will now be my restaurant of choice and I will soon be taking my families, friends and business contacts there for meals - and promoting Milsoms to other 'groups' I belong to. Thank you, again, for a great evening! WELL DONE

My heart skipped a beat when I entered Milsoms Kesgave Hall gate and its beautifully kept grounds on Friday 16th April 2021. Upon approaching the podium, I recognised Maisha who I remembered fondly from a different era, pre Covid. I sat in the sunshine with a glass of Prosecco waiting to be allocated a table for lunch. The place was buzzing, people, glasses, laughter, children playing on the grass and well my beautiful 4 legged companion Lillie is welcome to partake in this newly found freedom. I was in heaven when my starter, smoked salmon with pickled cucumber turned up, forgot how generous the portion were. For my main, fillet mignon cooked to perfection and they kindly provided me with creamy mash. Last but not least raspberry sorbet. I can not hide the fact that I have been visiting the premises at every given opportunity, from delicious brunches, satisfying lunches to this evening dinning experience. The staff are professional, friendly and so welcoming. The kitchen staff are approachable, though very busy and humour me with my feedback. The atmosphere is really good, all way round from behind the scene to front of house. I am back for good and so pleased to see so many people supporting a great venue that delivers inspiring dishes of exceptional quality. Merci a Tous! Mrs I S Kay

We have enjoyed Milsoms many times over the years with great quality food, drink and service. Unfortunately this occasion was a great let down.On arrival we could not see any signage for where to go. We waited and were checked in and given a table number to sit at. By this time some other people had arrived and sat on this table due to it not being clear on what to do.We were not given any drinks menus and infact were not even spoken to until we asked somebody for a menu 20 minutes later. About 10 minutes after this we then had to ask if we can order drinks. We asked twice if our drinks are on the way and we're told they were very busy and they are now getting them. This turned out to be a complete lie. When we were eventually seated in the marque we still did not get our drinks and a woman approached us and asked us to point out the person responsible for the order, blaming them for being inexperienced. No apology given at all for losing the order and in my opinion extremely unprofessional to ask me to point out who may have made a mistake. I am here to dine (and paying a premium for it) not help you manage your staff. Very disappointing. Food also not up to usual standard of pervious visits.

Arrived during busy lunch service. Staff very efficient and all felt very covid safe. Service very pleasant, food less so, lacking any panache and at £40+ for just 2 courses was underwhelming. Nice venue, bland food.

Took a friend to lunch at Milsoms Kesgrave - was really impressed with the work they had done to make it Covid19 secure - lots of space between tables on the canopied terrace - attentive (but not intrusive) staff - fabulous food. Had been concerned about not being able to book ahead, but needn't have worried as the terrace had been so well set up.

Very disappointing experience. Staff very young and inexperienced. Two of the brunch Benedicts returned as under cooked. After two reminders, the replacements turned up but the others had finished. Ordered additional coffees and teas but they never appeared. Just don’t understand when they have reduced number of tables. Other guests on other tables were complaining with two walking out. All in all a very disjointed service. This is not the first time we have experienced poor service at this venue. Service is a measure which customers deem paramount. Milsoms need to seriously review this as it could come back to haunt them !

Me and the family took a trip to milsoms to treat ourselves on a rare occasion, never again. All staff members were lovely, inviting and warm with the exception of the manager (who would expect to have some sort of charm or charisma). Easy to spot for anyone still planning on going, he will be the one with the milsoms branded face mask at 20mph pretty much barging through guests. If you’re not a footballer or a wag then you’ll be treated like a second class citizen. I really hope some senior managers see this to send him a polite reminder what his role actually entails.

Booked for 8 people, ordered drinks and went to go to our table. Told that we had to prove it we were from 2 households but was not told this when we asked for the table and waited an hour. Rude manager then said we needed some proof, weirdly enough people don’t carry utility bills around. The manager is extremely rude and picks and chooses when to enforce rules. I’m assuming the recent flurry of bad reviews has made him like this. We visited 1 week before with a table of 7 guys spending hundreds and wasn’t questioned. The management really need to look at themselves and need a reminder that they work in hospitality and are not royalty

Visited the restaurant tonight for a meal having visited on a number of occasions previously. When we arrived at 6:30pm the restaurant was already very busy and we were told it would be 30-45 minutes for a table inside or 2 1/2 hours for a table outside. Although bookings are not accepted in normal times, I’m surprised this policy is still in place during the pandemic. The lack of booking system meant there were a number of people being turned away if they could not wait, or queuing which adds to the volume of people circulating in close proximity. My mobile number was taken for test & trace and we were seated at the white plastic outdoor tables for drinks while we waited. The table had not been cleaned or disinfected before we were seated, in fact my chair was filthy. 20 minutes after we arrived we had been offered no drinks. Eventually a waitress arrived and asked if we would like any drinks but no wine list or drinks menu was offered and she didn’t appear very knowledgeable about what non-alcoholic drinks were available. Other customers were able to order nibbles to enjoy while waiting but again, no menu was offered until I asked. Disposable paper menus are being used but the one that was brought over for us to look at nibbles had been used previously as there were marks on it.After another half an hour no drinks had arrived and we had to chase the order up. When the drinks did arrive I checked the bottle of wine and found that it was not the bottle I’d ordered, but a bottle almost twice the price. The reason I checked is that this has occurred on a previous visit to Milsoms and on that occasion I did not realise until the bill came and I had a nasty shock. Maybe this was an unlucky coincidence or maybe this is usual practice at this restaurant? I took the unopened bottle back to the bar and exchanged it for the bottle I’d originally asked for.Around an hour and a half after arriving we were offered a table outside which we accepted. There were many empty tables, reserved by hotel residents we were told, although these residents never seemed to arrive. The tables are spaced quite close together and only one of the waiting staff was wearing a mask. No social distancing measures were in place by waiting staff. Covid security measures appeared weak. There were hand sanitiser bottles available inside the restaurant but nothing outside, no one way systems enforced, no way to access the toilets other than walking through the whole restaurant in close proximity to inside diners (there is a side entrance that could be used but there is no signage or information available encouraging customers to use this). If the venue was unlucky enough to have someone with coronavirus either visiting or working there, the virus would be able to rip through the staff and customers with little to stop it. Perhaps the restaurant is relaxed about this as the majority of the staff are very young but this is not the case for many of the clientele.Another 30 mins after being seated we were given menus but only after asking. These were brand new, clean paper menus. We were given a pencil to write with but I’m not sure whether the pencils are being cleaned between customers or not. Maybe take your own pen just in case... We managed to flag down a member of staff to place our order. Our starters duly arrived and were absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The food is not cheap here but is reliably good and only has a few other local restaurants that can rival it. We also ordered a jug of water but this never arrived. Our main courses came and were similarly fabulous. The portion sizes were good and everything cooked to perfection. We had originally ordered the battered haddock but requested that the fish was skinless. We were told this was not possible which I found surprising in a restaurant of this standard. Even our local fish & chip shop will skin the fish on request. We ordered a burger instead. After our mains we asked to move inside as it was getting chilly. Some of the outdoor seating as heaters and lighting but not the new area. A lamp was brought over when it got to the point that we couldn’t see each other very well. The move indoors was facilitated but again we were put on a table that had clearly not been cleaned after previous customers. It was covered in crumbs and rings of liquid from glasses. I had to clean it myself with an antibacterial wipe. The waiter we had after moving inside was great; cheerful, efficient and pleasant. Much better than the experience we’d had outside. I ordered a sticky toffee pudding to share with my husband. It was burnt; this was clear to see and to taste. I’m surprised the kitchen let it out like that but I didn’t raise it as I didn’t have the will to make a fuss by that point. Our party also had a crumble which was really good.Overall the food was great but the service was poor. This has been a general theme the last few times I have visited. Many of the staff are very young and do not have the customer service skills which would be expected in a restaurant of this standard. This is a shame. The lack of coronavirus extra measures is also a concern and I feel the restaurant could do much more to protect both staff and customers.
