Lovely cafe and lovely food. Recently taken over so do not one put off by some of the reviews on here. Our breakfasts were fantastic and the lunch menu looks great. Pretty little courtyard seating too when it’s warm.

I have been here about 5 times now for breakfast and have never been disappointed. It's an interesting menu and everything is well executed, high quality and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere is friendly - cosy inside and quirky outside. The staff are engaging and helpful. The prices are what you'd expect for this kind of food. Definitely worth a visit.

There is a new owner (as of November 2022) of this lovely little cafe who has already created a warm, welcoming atmosphere, brining with her some of the delicious food and cakes from where she worked before (The Canteen in Nailsworth). Has a delicious frittata there today for lunch followed by a fig flapjack and washed down with a really good flat white. Give it a go!

We were sat in the courtyard … not another person to be seen on the other 6-7 tables ! We removed the umbrella in the middle of the table as we couldn’t see each other across the table and it wasn’t needed as no sun . We were happily chatting waiting for our last arrival … when to our surprise a very rude man approached us and accused us of blocking the other seats .. we’d respectfully placed the umbrella on one of the other 6 empty tables !! We were all shocked by his unwelcoming attitude and to find out he was the owner?! What a very strange attitude and not the way to welcome customers. Hence he lost us as customers that day and any time in the future . Don’t bother folks. We moved on to Curios and had a great welcome !

We stumbled upon this whilst looking for somewhere to have lunch that wasn't full. This cafe is in a secluded yard off the main road so had room. The menu (handwritten on paper posters hanging on walls) is largely vegetarian. We enjoyed what we had to eat. It wasn't especially cheap (£9 for a veg curry) but was nicely presented and the sourdough bread was very nice. Unfortunately one of our sons is a fussy eater (prefers meat), so he had a drink only then went to Greggs afterwards. Overall pleased to have found this place.

We live in Stroud and visit the different coffee bars in and around Stroud. Some cafes can be a bit hit and miss when making a good cappuccino, some resembling a white coffee, some you wonder whether is even the coffee in it. Everytime we visit Mills, Ellas makes a great coffee and is always so professional and polite, her work area clean and she is never sloppy. On a couple of occasions the kitchen haven't always delivered what I ordered and Ella has always been apologetic and made efforts to make sure I wasn't put off visiting again. It hasn't. The other staff are always friendly and the atmosphere is lovely. Food and cakes are great. Presentation is always good. But I haven't quite had a coffee anywhere else for quite some time in and around Stroud like the one Ella serves up. It is an underrated skill! Thank you Mills.

I love this little café, it's got the friendliest staff and a quirky, beautiful atmosphere. I used to eat brunch here regularly but the prices seem to have gone up so now I just have a coffee as I still like sitting in the little court yard. The quesedillas and avocado on toast are fantastic but aren't the bargain they used to be. I still recommend it to people. Their coffee is fantastic, you have to wait a while but it's worth it and the waitresses are happy to have a friendly chat and a smile so it's a good place to be.

We visited Stroud on the last Bank Holiday in May to have a mooch and collect a click and collect. Many shops and cafes were closed which we found surprising.Walking up Stroud's pedestrianized High Street, we came across a sandwich board directing people to the Mills Café. Down a short alleyway, we came to a lovely courtyard which catches the sun with tables to enjoy an al fresco coffee. This was our first, but very much not, our last visit. The menu changes at midday so, arriving just before 12, we obviously had to order something from both! A small thing but no problem!Arah had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Yes, a bit of a brunch cliché but lovely fluffy eggs and well presented. I had a ham and gruyere open sandwich on the chef's own baked bread. Super! The pesto and yellow pepper coulis on the side were a nice touch. Also good simple leaves with dressing. Very obviously an independently owned business. The chairs don't match. Great! Lots of cushions and a comfortable banquette. Friendly staff who smile and an owner who tweaked a dish for us for dietary requirements. We loved the Mills Café!A message to the owner and staff from two newbies to the area (we've recently moved to Painswick)WE'LL BE BACK!!

I ordered off the menu, a seasonal, vegetarian pastry with veggies and veggie gravy. Looked good when it arrived but when I took a mouthful it tasted weirdly fishy. I didn't know if I was being dumb since I haven't tasted fish in many years so I asked the staff and was initially told yes, it's vegetarian before they quickly corrected themselves telling me it had salmon in it. I was clearly upset but no apology was given, no alternative actual vegetarian meal was offered. When the staff were asked if they were going to correct their menu my question was shrugged off. I did not eat any more of that dish and won't be eating at Mills again.

We came here for lunch and ordered a baguette and a quesadilla. For no apparent reason the quesadilla came out long after the sandwich, so long that one of us had already finished their lunch. Explained this to the waitress when the sandwich came out and the manager when it still hadn't appeared 15 minutes later. She just shrugged and couldn't seem to care less. Food was okay but not worth the price Do yourself a favour and steer clear of here, there are many other independent cafés in Stroud with friendly staff and great service.

We have been here a few times as the coffee is fantastic, the best in Stroud by a long way. The food is also delicious and the staff are friendly. There are just a few things I think would improve the experience: Another coffee machine - at busy times it can take up to 25 minutes to get your order and even though the waitresses are lovely and smiley and apologetic about the time, it feels like it's too long. I'd rather the napkin that comes with the cake was given separately as when it's served on the same plate as the cake, it then has sticky cake on it so it's unusable. Despite these niggles it's a great place to sit in the sun and when it's not too long a wait it's nigh on perfect.

Mills Cafe has seen a few changes of management in recent years, not always to its advantage. As a patron for many years I am delighted to say that the current management has raised it to a standard above that achieved by any previous owner. The decor has been cleaned up, with new paint, new furnishings and improved lighting, all without any loss of its traditional charm. Above all, the service is charming. The excellent coffee and homemade cakes are brought to your table and there are tasteful touches rarely found elsewhere in today's cafe culture, such as china cups and saucers and butter served in a little dish instead of the ubiquitous and extremely messy foil-wrapped portion, and you don't have that nonsense of several coffee sizes with pretentious Italian tags. These things make it really special. The current owners deserve to win back the clientele and more. Highly recommended!

On a rainy Saturday in February everywhere in Stroud was packed for brunch. We had almost given up and then remembered the revamped Mills. It was calm and peaceful, although quite a few people there, but hooray, a nice round table by the window. We ordered at the counter and yes, they were still doing breakfast at 12 noon. So, we all had the full English plus teas and coffees. Our lovely, smiling waitress promptly brought out our teas and coffees, breakfast followed shortly after. It was beautifully cooked, generous too: two eggs each, two rashers of bacon, mushrooms and vine tomatoes (none of it greasy) plus a side of two slices of toast cut into triangles, marmalade and butter. We asked for tomato ketchup and that arrived promptly too. Nothing was too much trouble. We liked it a lot. I noticed they do wine and I'll definitely come back for lunch and I've heard talk of evening openings to tie in with the wine shop that has opened opposite. Good idea to make the most of the courtyard.

Food was delicious as always - plenty of veg and salads, great quiche etc. Cakes looked good too but we didn't have room. Service was fairly good though had to remind them about a glass of water but I think they may have just been changing shifts or lunch breaks and we weren't in a rush so no problem. I haven't been there for a while before but it was just as I remember and food reminiscent of Tubbys in Nailsworth or Mother Nature as it used to be. No loud music, easy to chat. Lots of people eating outside in the courtyard, not so many inside as it was a sunny day. We popped in for our annual fix of Mill's Cafe ambience, food and coffee last week and found everything sadly lacking. From the unfriendly even surly, monosyllabic service to the flavourless tea this is not the Mill's Cafe I have known since it first opened decades ago. I'll be back to give it another chance before flying 'home' but sincerely hope the cigarette smoking waitress has either given up her habit or moved on, very unpleasant having her smoke drifting in to the cafe when she went for her break in the courtyard.

For twenty five years, this has been my favourite cafe in Stroud and has always been a buzzing part of the community. Lately some of the buzz has gone - I guess competition from other new coffee houses but my visit yesterday was awful and probably my last. Although no problems with food, diffident staff more interested in talking to their friends, background music of Radio 1 and nothing but a bunch of dying flowers on a windowsill, really impacted on the ambiance. I guess it is a vicious circle with low footfall but please can we have the sharpness of the old Mills back please!

Haven't been here for a while. The Cheese and broccoli quiche was yummy along with the side salad . My hubby had the Bacon and mushroom quiche and he said it was really good. This is a cafe tucked away in a little alley in stroud just off the high street. It is lovely, quite big inside. It's worth a visit when in Stroud. The staff are all very friendly . It gets very busy in here, the cakes looked delicious and homemade . I will be going back :)

Tucked away down an alley off the High St - Mills cafe is a little gem of a place. The quiches are cooked on the premises n devine - with a help yourself to salad. Sat outside in the courtyard in the sun was a lovely way to spend a couple of hours!!!The coffee was good quality but £2 for a small cup. I think the quiche was £7Staff pleasant. Well worth a visit.

The restaurant offers well-prepared British food at reasonable prices. Service is swift and friendly. There is a good wine list with plenty of choice at the cheaper end. Vegetarians and vegans are catered for as well as those after a good meat meal. The chefs clearly take a pride in presentation and desserts are better than average. This restaurant is worth the journey into the hills on the outskirts of Gloucester.

Very nice pub, we randomly stopped here because it was on our way to a ghost hunt in the area, and we are so glad we stopped here, the pub was nice and clean, the mother daughter team that run it was really friendly, and the food was outstanding, very well presented, great prices and yummy! We are going back in December and I’m very much looking forward to it.

The building and setting at Leaf and Ground is beautiful. I’ve been here before but never eaten in the cafe so wasn’t sure what to expect. We pre-booked a table as we were meeting a friend with their family, making our group 9 people (4 adults and 5 kids). They did charge £5 per person as a deposit but we were glad we could book a guarantee a space for our party. Service was a little slow at points, drinks took awhile to arrive and had to grab someone’s attention to order food. However the food didn’t take too long - it was also delicious and very good quality. I had the chicken parm which was tasty, and my husband had ham, egg and chips, both were very decent sized portions. I would agree with other comments about the kids fries being salty, they were fine to my taste but the kids weren’t especially keen (they don’t normally have salt on their food) - so it might be worth taking that on board for future. We then enjoyed a walk around the grounds after lunch (the kids loved romping around the woodland area). We then had a stop at the kiosk for ice cream/milkshakes, followed by a trip to the kids play area. A very pleasant way to spend a sunny October afternoon and we will be back :)

We arrived in Stroud mid afternoon on a Saturday. The kids were starving and every other place we tried to get into was in the process of shutting. Despite Stroud being packed, Milano appeared to be the only place open that was still doing lunch or any type of food for that matter ! The lady behind the counter was super friendly and everything that we had to eat was tasty and really good value too. My youngest especially liked the Spag Bol and the proper milk shake made with ice cream. Don`t be put off by some of the reviews on here, it`s a nice place and really friendly. Just don`t go in expecting a restaurant, the clue is in the word cafe !
