Millers Arms in Monmouthshire

We were stopping at the Welsh gate house and Millers arms was only a 10 minute walk. Staff and locals were friendly and helpful and atmosphere was welcoming. We went in on the Wed night and Thurs night both nights meals were delicious. The menu was great from pub classics to other great choices. If we lived in the area this would definitely be our local

What great value for money. Great portion of Roast Meat and Roast Potatoes all for £13. Great tasting too and good service. Plenty of veg and gravy to choose and add to as you prefer it.

We came too this delightful pub as a stop over in our motorhome as on way too Devon,the Sunday lunch was absolutely amazing,we had the 3 course at £17.00 was such a great deal! And we only had too pay £3.00 for EHU! Bargain ! We had my wifes 50th birthday here. The staff, food and ambiance were fantastic. I emailed my requests which were answered quickly and politely. Even when we had to have a change of plans, nothing was too much trouble. I cannot thank you enough! Please pass on our thanks to everyone. They even provided candles for the cake when I forgot!!

Always a warm welcome here followed by good food. We found you all too late and sorry to be leaving the area. We hope you will continue to be successful.

We decided last Saturday that rather than have a family bbq to celebrate my birthday my daughters rang around to see if we could book a table for 5 adults and 4 children. We were told they could fit us in at 6pm to 6 30pm we arrived on time bought a round of drinks decided what we would like to eat. Asked to place our order was told they were taking orders from a table of 21 then they had a table of 8 they would do next and then they would take our order. Come 8pm they were still dealing with the large group and the table of 8 were still waiting to order. So we settled bar bill and left ordered a Chinese takeaway which was ready in 20 mins and went to my daughters to eat it. I have to say I enjoyed the pub the food smelt lovely but why give us a booking they had no reasonable chance of filling. I would have imagined we would have spent upwards of £500 there. And when telling the story at the takeaway the young lady told us we were far more chilled about it than a group who had the same experience the weekend before

Very friendly staff and comfortable pub. Food was excellent, table service for food and drinks. The pub is dog friendly and a good choice of drinks, ales and food.

Food either undercooked or overcooked, think the chef was having a night off we were the only ones there so disappointed as was looking forward.

Great pub with fantastic food (generous portions) , a nice atmosphere and lovely people working there. Sadly only passing through this one time, but otherwise would definitely be back!!

The family all enjoyed our Mother’s Day lunch at The Millers Arms. Most of the adults had the 3 courses apart from my mother & the children who had the smaller lunch and this was ample for them. The service was also very good. Very good value too ! Will definitely visit again

Absolutely stunning 3 course Sunday lunch. We were given a lovely warm welcome as always. The service was second to none despite them having a 70th birthday celebration which consisted of a lot of guests. The food was plentiful and it tasted amazing. We highly recommend the roast beef dinner and the sticky toffee pudding. We are regular diners here and to date we have had nothing but fantastic food, amazing service and wonderful value for money.

A buffet was arranged by Shaun and Amanda of The Miller's Arms , to cerebrate the life of my sister-in-law, catering for about 40 guests. The food was varied, plentiful, very tasty and enjoyed by all. The atmosphere in this delightful village pub was just what we needed to be able to enjoy this occasion with our friends and family.

Excellent value and a really delicious roast, went for the two courses, pudding was gorgeous - there was a plentiful selection. Our dogs were given a meat treat too!

My father is a Friday lunchtime regular, and he booked the Christmas lunch at £25 per head for 4 courses for my family to travel over from Berkshire to enjoy this week. We were absolutely delighted with the quality of the Christmas food served and the highest customer service Certainly excellent value for money in a traditional pub setting . If you live locally and haven’t been for a while - why not ? Highly recommended

Fantastic greeting easy parking electric hook up and a great bar. Unfortunately the kitchen is not open on mondays and Tuesdays. But the menu looks brilliant and competitively priced. However we had a few beers joined in with the locals and had a thoroughly brilliant night and our dogs were so welcome. Amazing stopover be sure and book to stay to avoid disappointment. Haven’t eaten here for a while so we were keen to try something off the lunch menu. My husband had the fish and chips with mushy peas and I opted for the fish burger with fries and coleslaw. The fish was delicious in both cases. Homemade beer batter, thin and light and crispy, with soft juicy fish underneath . The fish burger was delicious! The best one I’ve had. It had a proper piece of fish in it, not reconstituted nonsense. My fries were cooked just right and husband had lovely chunky chips. The fish and chips was great. A huge portion and perfectly cooked. The batter was outstanding (made with local beer by the owner). We can’t wait to come back and try more. The whole place was buzzing and it’s lovely to see a local business doing well.

We have been here several times, staying overnight in our motorhome in their carpark. We absolutely love it - Sean, the owner, is really friendly and helpful, and Angela (waitress/bar) is lovely - always takes the time to chat and ensure everything is to our satisfaction (which it always is!). The other staff are lovely, too (thanks to the lovely girls who did the cocktails and laminated the cocktail menu!). The food is fantastic - big portions and home cooked. Great deals on the cocktails, too. It's an exceptional pub in all ways. Oh, and really dog friendly, too - our sausage dog particularly enjoyed all the attention from the waitresses! Thank you - we will be back.

Just had an excellent Mother’s Day meal for 12 here. Really good food, prompt and efficient service with lots of staff catering for our needs. Can’t fault it. Very reasonable prices too. GF well catered for. 3 children with good sized portions served. Very nice play area. Adequate play area for our brood. We were staying at a CL site just near the Millers Arms, we called in for a few drinks, and we were made to feel welcome straight away. All the staff and the regular customers were so friendly, when we left we felt like we had known everyone in there forever not just a few hours. Went back the following day for the Wales rugby International and there was no seats but the landlord seen us and instantly made a space for 3 of us to sit. Thoughrroughly recommend this pub if your in the area.

Having seen a post on Facebook advertising the grill night, thought we’d try to banish the January blues with a meal out. Staff were very welcoming on arrival, quick to seat us with menus and take drink orders. We asked about the grill night menu, the landlady shouted across that it had been one of those days and menus weren’t printed yet. We said we’d like the rib eye, we’re told that they had none, but then later advised they did. Our food arrived, the steaks were cooked perfectly. Absolutely delicious. Sadly the chips were awful. I was reluctant to complain as the serving staff were superb, but they were inedible. We were told that it was due to the latest batch of potatoes delivered, which is fair enough, but they really should not have been served. We had a portion of fries as a substitute, they were great! Despite the excellent bar/waiting staff, the management put us off, and despite being our closest pub we won’t return.

This pub is perfect for its hospitality, the bar is welcoming and pleasant with amazing staff that are always cheery and welcoming. The restaurant serves first-class top quality food, Steak night is a must on a Wednesday along with Curry night on a Thursday. The staff are well presented and always happy to help. The village pub is a real community pub and all are welcome and this is clearly seen with the landlord and landlady welcoming all in, from regulars to newcomers and passing walkers/visitors to the area. First class everytime

Great food, all four of us enjoyed our meals on Thursday evening. Service was excellent, friendly. Compliments to the chef. We asked for garlic mayo and the chef made us some. So many places would have said they don't do it if it doesn't come out of a bottle. Small touches like this makes for a pleasant experience. Really recommend.

Lovely location and sitting out in the garden on a sunny day was perfect. Ordered 2 baguettes and jacket potato with chilly. 2 loaded fries. The food was good and tasty with proper ham not processed slices. The service was good too. Kids play area and toilets are really good and rear car park so everything you need.

This was our first try ofThe a pub stopover. We definitely made the right choice. On arrival we were warmly greeted by the landlord and given all the information that we needed. Our meal was delicious, with good portions and at a reasonable price, all served by friendly young staff.No hesitation in recommending Millers Arms.

A short weekend in the area and a table booked. My brother and his other half have been here before and rated it. The warning was that I needed to be hungry to eat here and I now know why. The homecooked fare was plentiful and I loved it. Just popped in here on the way home from a trip to Wales. Avoiding the motorway to enjoy the glorious scenery and needed lunch. Tucked away just off the motorway, lovely homely pub with welcoming staff and plenty of seating. The food was very good and so reasonable! I had a big jacket potato with 3 bean topping and salad, only £5. He had gammon, good size with lovely eggs and 3 x cooked chips. Delicious. Highly recommended

En profitant d'une pause essence au Tesco de Chepstow, je suis allé voir sur le site du gouvernement la liste des restaurants du coin (mais gallois !; nous y tenions, pour le fun de changer de l'Angleterre :;-) faisant la promo "Eat out help out" puisque c'était le dernier jour et qu'il "fallait" en profiter jusqu'au bout! ;-) Bonne pioche avec ce sympathique pub, à deux pas de la "frontière", avec des prix extrêmement raisonnables pour le Royaume-Uni !Ma compagne a commencé par une copieuse salade de chèvre (3,25 £) puis s'est régalée d'une excellente entrecôte (15,95 £) dont la cuisson saignante ("rare"; c'était même écrit sur le ticket de caisse !) avait été bien respectée ::o) Bonne sauce Stilton (+/- fromage bleu) champignons (il y avait plusieurs choix). Par contre, les frites « anglaises » (grosses et donc farineuses) n'étaient pas terriblesDe mon côté, je me suis contenté avec une salade Caesar (6,95 £). Bon, le cuisinier avait raté le pochage de l'œuf et le résultat tenait plus de l'œuf sur le plat que poché (voir photo). Mais ça n’empêche que c’était bien bon Bien entendu, cidre à la pression : Stowford (demi-pinte 2,10 £)Service agréable et souriant.Vis-à-vis du Covid-19, le pub avait établi un sens de circulation, avec entrée et sortie distinctes.

We needed somewhere to meet up with family for lunch, coming from Hampshire and South Wales. Luckily the Millers Arms was open, even though at the moment they are not allowed to serve alcohol. We were greeted and shown to our table by a very friendly member of staff, so a good start. All the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. As it was Sunday it was Sunday roasts, with a choice of meat. Two chicken wings and one soup for starters. Three pork and one ham for mains. One triple chocolate muffin, one sticky toffee pudding and one cheesecake (the best I have had when eating out) for desert. Soft drinks, teas and coffees to go with. All very reasonably priced, an excellent find will go again and recommend it.

Had lunch here twice in the past three weeks. Both times the food was fantastic (lamb shank and dessert, pate and gammon). Service was excellent as were the safety provisions and the beer. It’s my local and favourite pub in Monmouthshire.

Visited midweek lunchtime, very nice welcome, and a good atmosphere. The three of us ordered different starters and mains and they were all of a high standard. We will definitely be returning when this lockdown has come to an end.

Had Sunday lunch with friends, we had travelled from Cheltenham. Did all 3 courses! Lovely broccoli and Stilton soup to start, roast turkey dinner and chocolate fudge cake to finish! Roast was lovely, piping hot and really tasty! Desert was great too! Staff we’re brilliant, really attentive! Above all, great value for money! Turned up for my Sunday lunch at 1 o clock, only to find they had a “technical fault” in kitchen , no food being served , “Did we not ring you” No you never !! Had a lovely Sunday roast elsewhere, sorry, but you’ve lost yourself a 2 customers

Food was great, tasty and very well cooked and presented. Despite the current difficult circumstances they managed to create a cosy atmosphere with friendly , attentive service. Great value as well. Would seek them out next time we are in the area!

We found this on line as we wanted somewhere to eat on our journey home that wasn’t a service station. Brilliant food , we expected to pay more for the quality. Signature duck and chicken meals were brilliant and the steak was so tasty. Only issue, portions were too big for puddings as well

Sunday lunch with the family, I ordered sticky pork belly which was delicious my brother had the scotch egg which o tried a bit of and was very good, I had roast beef go mains which was nice but a tad dry, the veg was cooked well but could do with a bit more of it, I had booked a table and the food took a while to come, but overall I did enjoy the meal.

Mum lives near the bottom of Chepstow so often frequents the eateries there so I suggested I take her to The Millers for a change and because it had been highly recommended. We were not at all disappointed with friendly service and fabulous food. Mum had pie of the day and I got immediate food envy but the panko chicken was fantastic and a little bit different. We were first in at noon and it soon filled up. Great menu executed very well and, a first for us, that we were so full we couldn't manage a pudding but there is always next time.

We called into Millers Arms pre booked on bank holiday Monday as a family group, for a late lunch and although a few things not available on the menu this was not unexpected as it was two pm and very busy.but still plenty to choose from. All four of us were more than happy with the meals we chose which included scotch egg starter and highly recommended. Staff were very pleasant and polite We chose to eat outside as weather was lovely but inside had a lovely atmosphere . Will definitely be going back.

Stopped off here for a quick coffee. They very obligingly check to see that they had decaf coffee. Service was very friendly in what is a friendly locals pub. Menu for Sunday lunch is a roast with different starters and pudding each week. May well look to return to sample this.

We had the fried chicken oriental style. This is quite the best local pub menu we have eaten. Much more satisfying than the large hotel and golf course next nearby.

This was our second visit this week. On both occasions the staff were both friendly and attentive. Food was excellent.

Me and my wife stopped in Mathern enroute to Hay-on-wye to have some lunch and meet some friends. Given that we are living in new times with Covid19 and also Eat out to Help out, our friends rang up to book to make sure that they were serving and were able to accomodate us. There were lots of tables outside, but mainly to cater for patrons to drink outside rather than inside (to help with social distancing). Just because they have tables doesn’t mean you can get food (every place has only a certain amount of food capacity) and having visited a few establishments over August some places take C19, seriously and some don’t. I would urge people to remember that each establishment deals with C19 in different ways. At The Millers Arms, I felt they take C19 seriously. The staff were friendly and professional, which meant I could relax and enjoy my visit and my food, which was lovely.

Half the menu not available cause “they had been so busy” Service slow Decided to have curry as was told it was chicken korma, it as not korma and when I asked was just told it is!

The second time we have been for lunch and this time was as good as the first. Really nice food, would recommend the scotch eggs and pork belly for starters. The burgers are really good, as is the salmon. Friendly staff and lovely all round pub.

We visited on a Monday lunch time ,table of four . Lots of outdoor space and gardens.Fantastic service from all the staff with huge smiles and great knowledge of the menu. Clearly everything on the menu is homemade. We had lasagna, Caesar salad with salmon , fish and chips. We had been recommended by a friend to try the scotch eggs...we did and they were amazing!! The food was well presented , beautifully seasoned and delish! We will definitely be returning ! It would be advised to book , but well worth it !
