Midway Pub in South Derbyshire

New landlord Craig has really given the pub a family feeling, amazing atmosphere and brilliant service. Locals are lovely and make you feel really welcome. highly recommend

called in the midway on our way home, new landlord very welcoming. as a publican myself it’s refreshing to visit another pub and see what others are doing, the pubs very clean looks like it’s recently had a referb, really lovely pub and a nice pint!

I would of given a five but the gravy could of been thicker. Great service, friendly and accommodating. We will be back 👍

Stopped off for lunch. Really clean and tidy and really nice food. Great selection of beers available. Good parking, clean toilets - what more do you need!

Great visit to the Midway. Husband loved the darts board which kept him entertained! Had a cracking dinner steak chips etc perfectly cooked, tasted great and probably cheaper than making it at home with much less washing up as well.

This is the second time i have visited the Midway - it is much improved. Seems everybody else agrees to as the atmosphere was cheery - everybody seemed to be enjoying their food. The locals were very friendly, even when I sat in their usual seats! It's split into two parts and that makes it great for having a game of darts and a drink one end or eating a meal with the family at the other end with nobody getting under each other's feet. I had Hunter's Chicken, one of my favourites - and it was bang on. Pedigree on trad was well kept and the other drinks we had were all good too. 5 stars.

Terrible Sunday Dinner. What’s described on the menu does not come anywhere close to what was served. Carrots out of a can, over boiled vegetables. The meat was like sandwich meat out of a packet. Everything else was frozen. The staff were nice and drink prices reasonable.

We visited yesterday after a trip to the Garden King with my two children. The man behind the bar was very accommodating excellent customer service, and we are already planning our next visit. The food was incredible and piping hot. Both boys ate every bit and the price was very cheap. Can’t wait for my next visit :)

Brilliant place, really nice, very clean and very friendly. The landlord, landlady and staff are absolutely superb people, made to feel extremely welcome. The food is absolutely fantastic, my son And his girlfriend had a burger which was homemade/handmade, my mrs has the lamb shank (it fell off the bone!), I had the liver, bacon and onions all 3 meals were superb. Fantastic value for money. Very, very highly recommend this place.

Called in on the way back from our holiday so we were starving! Ordered our food, the choice was very good for a limited menu, and we had time to talk and relax after the journey. The food took a bit of a while to come but it was worth the wait. It was piping hot and tasted lovely.

Popped in for a bite to eat, waited 15 mins to be served drinks. ordered meals for 4 people nearly 50 mins later food arrived, two of the mains were inedible, the other two meals were dried up. Expected Microwaved meals but this was well below that level. Very underwhelmed.

we came into the midway Inn. A nice warm and friendly welcome myself ,wife and 4 year old order a meal and the food was amazing never tasted chips so nice. Staff were extremely pleasant, friendly and happy to engage the 4 year old. The young one even said his sausage chips and beans were "beautiful "

Don’t bother coming here, the landlady clearly doesn’t want to bother serving you, just let the regulars keep her in business. Shouted at several times, for simply looking for a seat for five seconds. We were only there for a quick drink while we had a chat but felt like leaving as soon as we walked in. Accused of being there “just to use the pub WiFi” when we hadn’t even asked for the password, let alone why would we come to a pub purely for WiFi when we’ve got mobile data and WiFi where we live. After 20 minutes we left and will gladly never go back and I wondered why it never looked busy.

Been here many times and gave it various ratings and reviews so good and some not so. I chose to take my nephew today as he came to visit with his daughter. It was spotless and the tables were spaced out,so we felt quite safe. The menu was good and there was a special board. Had a bit of a wait but it gave us time to catch up. I had lasagna which came with a fresh salad and two pieces of garlic bread. My nephew had the pie which came with chips, peas and a jug of gravy. It all was delicious and good value for the money.

A more miserable, dull and oppressive place I cannot imagine. Both the landlord and landlady were rude and judgmental as soon as we arrived. My son was shouted at for actually following their one way system.The poor reviews about these people are clearly true. My advise is to avoid this place completely. We certainly will not be returning.Message to the landlord:-No one should expect this rudeness from anyone. You will find much worse reactions than mine if you continue to treat other customers this badly.

Lovely local pub, staff are always friendly and the food is always spot on, sometimes takes a while to arrive at the table but it's worth the wait and its very reasonably priced considering the high quality of the food. Definitely worth a visit!!

Not very busy, were told which tables we could use. As 2 of us only tables accommodating 2. Carvery looked nice. Menu offered choice but nothing exciting. Prawn Cocktail was really nice best I've had for a while. Staff pleasant.

Not been since it’s been done up so our monthly caught up lunch was decided to pay a visit. Carpark full always a good sign. The menu and special board not changed but still offers a good plate of food at reasonable prices. I had scampi which was lovely and both my lunch buddies had liver, bacon and onion. They both enjoyed theirs. Will meet up here again soon.

We love the Midway, whether the three of us or with my parents - great food, great friendly atmosphere and hosts always out to go the extra mile - feel like family. Tonight we discussed our actual families - so many similarities it’s scary, perhaps that’s why we relate to each other! We will always recommend The Midway- try it now!

Came here for a lovely family dinner yesterday, mixed grills and the Currys were spot on ,a little wait for the food but well worth it ...

Had a lovely mixed grill lunch here today,the meat was good and also homemade chips ,would come back again...

So pleased we checked out our local today, only taken us nearly 3 years. Food was excellent, really tasty, steak cooked how we asked and had plenty of flavour. Cajun chicken was beautiful and juicy. Service was great. Plenty of specials to choose from alongside the menu. Chips were ah-maze-ing!! Staff very friendly. We will know where to come now we know how good it is, and within walking distance!

Hi live nr Midway inn looks nice then we met landlady!arrived well before last orders at 1 with Friends waited at bar for 20 minutes then informed they'd stopped serving very rude service and attitude merry Christmas

We arrived for one Christmas drink before dinner today and waited patiently for 20 minutes. We were then told that they were no longer serving when the landlady looked at us. Where is the Christmas spirit?? We wont be going back there again terrible service.

In the past couple of years this pub has really upped its game. Deb and Alan are 2 of the most friendliest people you can meet. The food is gorgeous. Proper chips not frozen crap. We have always had a top meal there. I like to class it as an old school proper friendly pub.

Extremely poor service with condescending self righteous staff and management that do nothing but add to the sombre and depressing atmosphere. Food is just expensive same old pub food, avoid... plenty of better friendly pubs nearby who welcome people who aren't local.

We have just eaten here; the food is of good quality.......when it arrives as it took about 30 minutes to arrive. The staff were very courteous and overall for the price paid it represents great value for money.

The people at this pub are so lovely. There are some new staff finding there feet behind the bar and they have been chosen well,they are very nice. The food is very fresh and cooked from scratch, so lovley. I have been there lots of times and always had very good fresh food there. Thanks for a good time and good food every time I go. I Would recommend the midway inn on Burton road in midway near Swadlincote any day for fun and food.

we got there and we ordered food at 4.50pm we got rude staff and the lad who served us was miserable and unfriendly he didn’t even crack a smile or make any conversation with us, the and the lady who was in the pub was serving people and just walking round the pub really. our food took over an hour to come so we asked twice where our food was and she said we were up next we asked again and she said it would be up in 10 mins and it didnt come so we asked for a refund and the manager wasn’t there he had gone out and there was only one chef in the kitchen and all the food was ‘freshly cooked’ thats why it took so long. we kept asking for a refund but she wouldn’t give us one and the manager came back and he was equally as rude as her, the manager shoved the receipt in my face saying ‘read that’ and i said i cant i haven’t got glasses and he replied ‘or you just don’t want to’ he didn’t give us a refund for the drinks only the food. i will not be coming there again.

We went to eat hear. Ordered food for 5 of us, I say food junk really usual rubbish old fashioned menu decor miserable bar staff. Half an hour went by and we asked how much longer it would be. The lad said ours was next. Given that there was no one else in there we didn’t know why it was taking so long. We only ordered 2 steaks and 2 veggie burgers! It shouldn’t take that long!

Meal was 9 out of 10, very satisfied, but the Landlady needs some people skills, made to feel uncomfortable due to being watched by the Landlady because we had children. Yet I witnessed a child behind the bar pulling pints.

After a bit of retail therapy, watching a movie we were more than ready for some food. I’ve avoided coming here after my last visit as I felt once eaten we were in the way.

Been for a drink tonight and found the landlord and landlady absolutely lovely and welcoming. Will definately be going there again and it is a 30 min drive for us!. The families that are moaning about comments made regarding children... Try parenting your own offspring, that alone will make a more enjoyable outing for yourselves and everyone else having to share the space with them. They are after all your responsibility not the staffs!!

Decided to meet up here with family visiting from over an hour away. We had small children with us who were excited to see each other and playing together,fair enough they were chasing each other and we were asked to stop them,the miserable woman who didn’t crack a smile the whole time we were there kept giving the children dirty looks and made us feel most uncomfortable,we told the children to stop playing then was told we need to sort ourselves out anyway because they’ve got a band coming! It was 6:30,if children aren’t welcome then you should of made us aware of this when we walked in instead of making us all feel very unwelcome..we did state this and the lady ignored us and turned her back..The pub was empty so the children weren’t disturbing anybody. We all left and took our custom elsewhere and were made to feel so welcome,completely different to the atmosphere we had just left

First time I have been very good menu and the food was cooked perfect. We had to wait awhile for the food but it was all cooked fresh. Very friendly landlord we will certainly go back.

We had heard that this pub had recently been taken over by new management so my wife and I thought we would give their Sunday lunch/ carvery a try. At a price of £5.45p it was superb value for money, the restaurant area was spotlessly clean and the service was excellent. Alan, the landlord was extremely friendly and and had a lovely nature. Top marks!

Hemos estado en el camino antes, sin embargo la última vez que tomó la familia, un grupo de 8. Todos quedamos muy decepcionados con nuestra comida. Hoy queríamos comer y pensamos que este lugar otra prueba. Nos hubiera gustado no ser veraces. Mi esposo quería cordero pero las chuletas estaban fuera del menú de, así que nos fuimos para "cordero marroquí". Básicamente fue una pierna de cordero que podías comprar en cualquier supermercado bastante barata, que había sido puesto en una salsa picante. No mucha carne, uno de mis maridos "nuevo" patatas estaban mal, mi chaqueta patata estaba mayormente dura. Zanahorias, guisantes duro. insípida Ahora, si había sido £5- £6, nos hubiera dicho "oh bien". Sin embargo, era más de £12, salimos sensación aún hambrientos y "estafados" lo siento chicos que son una pareja muy agradable, pero para esa comida, era más. Pagamos £30. 20 para dos comidas y dos bebidas, ahora si hubiera sido la pena, entonces no me importa pagar. El hecho es. . . . . . . Sin duda no era.. ¿Por qué no nos quejamos simple, por entonces había un montón de gente alrededor y ninguno de nosotros es polémica. Hubiera sido vergonzoso. . . . Simplemente quiero advertirles a otros a elegir comidas más barato de la carta. No vale cualquier sitio cerca de £12. Fue + más del doble de lo que valía por desgracia! ! !

La comida ha mejorado 100% ya que los nuevos propietarios han tomado la opción fabulosa., caliente y a un precio razonable, el servicio es muy bueno también.

El personal es muy amable y el lugar es muy limpio. Un buen menú si tienes un presupuesto y muchas de 2 por 1. Lounge bar es muy bonita, pero utiliza muchos de los trabajadores locales, así que el idioma puede ser un poco industrial a veces. Aparte de este hay un buen ambiente y vale la pena una visita.

Ojalá viviese más cerca de este lugar, es uno de los lugares más simpático que he estado. El nuevo dueño Alan era muy acogedor, el menú es una adición encantadora con un añadido de ofertas especiales con algunas opciones muy apetecibles. Finalmente opté por la cadera y las costillas, y no me decepcioné cuando llegó. 2 pidió la parrillas mixtas que eran excelentes y mi hermana pidió la texmex bistec. Patatas fritas caseras así que eran deliciosas. Un postre de chocolate para la masa crownie galleta (mezclado con brownie) terminó la comida perfectamente. Sin duda volveré de nuevo la próxima vez que esté en la zona para probar el barnsley chop que por desgracia ya había vendido. Recomendaría este lugar a todo el mundo, no puedo esperar a volver de nuevo.

Called in on a Wim with my mum and son, decided to have the chicken for a change, I was well impressed, can't wait to try something else if the menu. Like the duck. And just wish Marston would have sweet potatoe fries on there menus as they are healthy and really tasty.

My husband and myself meet our friends on Friday evenings for a meal at The Midway. The food is brilliant, the price is very good and Allan and Debi are brilliant hosts. Never had a bad meal from the midway, service is prompt and food is brilliant!Always welcomed by friendly staff, and thanked for my custom.The pepsi tastes better at the midway than local pubs, think there was more syrup in it which makes it taste nicer rather than mostly soda with a dash of syrup. Ill be back again for sure!

We went for a meal for the first time on Saturday and was very pleasantly surprised. The food was lovely, great value for money and the homemade chips were amazing. Ive been here twice now in the same week as the first time we went the food was home cooked, tasty and plenty of it !! So went back the secound time and just as good. The landlord so freindly and welcoming.The price is right and the food is good the staff freindly so go and see for yourselves you wont be dissapointed.

I have only been here once before and had a brilliant cooked steak medium rare, so fancy having another steak just see if they could do it again and yes they didn't disappoint me every thing was hot, presented well, most of all clean tables, and friendly

Booked a table for lunch for 8 people and was very disappointed on first walking through the doors. The carpet was 'sticky', the tables not very clean, the service pretty poor and the food was very hit and miss. Two of the meals ordered came without two of the items listed on the menu and had to be returned. Not the best experience. The food, once it was replaced, wasn't bad but then it wasn't particularly good either.

As a young lady it's nice to feel comfortable in going to a pub for a drink on my own. Alan, Debbie and Chris are sure to provide a warm welcome and a great variety of food and drink. The original menu has been expanded and improved dramatically and there are plenty of options for all tastes. The atmosphere is friendly, warm and welcoming for families, couples, eaters and drinkers. There is obvious pride and attention to detail taken in the food and drink served. I would through roughly recommend the Midway Inn for a nice meal or even a quiet drink.

Ate here with friends before hitting slopes at the ski centre. Beautiful food, great atmosphere. Lovely freindly staff. Will definitely be visiting again the next time were in the area.

We have called today and this was our first visit. I thought the food was really good quality and great value and the service was even better! We were a party of 2 families with 4 kids that were changing orders and the staff couldn't be more obliging and accomodating, nothing was too much trouble. I had a belly busting brunch that was fantastic value and quality food. Everyone else really enjoyed their meals too. I will definately call again when next in the area. The beer was good too!

Visited the Midway Inn for a Christmas Dinner with some old Service Mates and was pleasantly surprised by the food and Service - both were Very Good.The food was timely served on piping hot plates by cheerful staff I will certainly return in the new year.

I walked in on a night when they had a big Xmas meal party going on. I was told my food would be a hr wait when looking round the party was 20 plus people I was happy with this wait. The bar staff was so friendly and so informative about when my meal would be ready and made sure I was was well informed all along. I got my meal within 40mins of ordering and the food was as good as the beer and atmosphere in the pub

Just headed in for a bite to eat with the missus, we were greeted by helpful friendly staff and ordering was prompt.The food itself was fresh, hot and great value for money. One thing I'd love to see would be an earlier opening time and breakfasts as I reckon that the midway would benefit from it and do a good job too!Great service, great location and great staff!

Really nice traditional pub, with owners and food to match. The triple cooked chips are die for and are topped only by the 'Cowboy Burger'. Great value for money (cost only £50 for four of us to have 2 courses and 2 drinks each). The Midway Inn is a hidden jewel. Would highly recommend

Hi have not been in the Midway for over ten years because the beer and food were rubbish. A month ago I decided to give it a try because I new it had disabled access and toilets. I was presently surprised of the good beer, the pedigree was second to none. So we last night decided to go for a meal with friends. The food was top class. My riibeye and chips was perfect, and my wife and Fiends had lovely meals to Well done Deb & Alan

Me and my partner wanted to go for some food something quick and close to home so we nipped in to my local pub the midway inn Since the new owners have taken over the pub has got better and better Alan knows how to keep a good pint of pedigree as well!! and today was the first time we ate and it was absolutely gorgeous!!! The meat is cook to exactly how you want it :-) Thankyou 5*****

Heard from a friend that the fish cakes here are awesome.They were right with homemade chips and mushy peas.

all good better than it was. before it was quite shockingand would not of eaten there again, the new landlord and lady are very welcoming, and the beer is a lot better .plus the food is excellent

The landlords are very welcoming and friendly, as are the staff. Drinks are reasonably priced and tend to be slightly cheaper than surrounding pubs.The Midway inn is close to main roads leading to Burton upon trent and Ashby.The new menus are fresh and the food is great.This pub is family friendly and offers a variety of entertainment at regular times each week.Well worth a visit for a family meal.

Food was absolutely incredible! I had one of the house specials; the Cod and Prawn Patties and they were delicious. The home made chips were fantastic as well.Atmosphere within the pub is great and I felt welcome straight away and would definitely eat there again. I highly recommend eating at The Midway!
