Midsummer Garden Licensed Coffee House in Mendip

Having walked up and down the many many offerings in Stratford, we popped in for a light lunch with kids. Upon entering not given the warmest of welcomes and sat down with menus. No kids menu and loads of choices crossed out with biro on the main menu. Very odd - why cross out with biro? Obviously not just something they’ve ran out of on the day. Having looked at the very expensive offerings, we decided to leave and go elsewhere. £10 for a Toastie. £11 for a ham and cheese croissant. All sandwiches £10+…..nothing kid friendly. Looks like we dodged a bullet. Found much cheaper offerings close by, great food, great welcome, much cheaper. Be warned…!!!

Terrible experience- cold weak coffee Stale cakes Long wait for toasted sandwich which was overpriced and over cooked If you sit in the garden be prepared for an overwhelming smell of grease coming from the extractor Would not recommend at all - far better places to eat in Stratford on Avon

Having read some positive reviews of this cafe, I was disappointed in our experience. Together with 7 friends, we ventured to this cafe and we left underwhelmed at the quality of the food and the responses received in providing feedback. One of my friends had a tough (that’s being kind) slice of bacon and where we brought it to the staffs attention, they gave us £1 off our bill. We were certainly not looking to be compensated however that gesture wasn’t particularly appreciated. Two other friends had eggs Benedict and eggs royals and they were not particularly warm at all.

We just decided to go into Stratford-upon-Avon for a coffee and of course cake. We're locals and not been in before and must say the coffee is excellent and the fruit crumble delicious. Friend had tea and carrot cake which every mouthful enjoyed. If you're in town - pop in you won't be disappointed. Lovely garden area too !!!!

Passed this quaint cafe many times without being drawn inside until today. The garden area is a delight especially on a fine day like today, there doesn't seem to be much seating inside so the weather conditions matter. The name suggests an interesting garden so maybe I should not have been surprised to find it! Coffee was nice and the service good. Beers were interesting but I didn't try one, maybe next time. We would certainly return.

Called in with friends for lunch, dog friendly and a great menu including wines and beers. The food was excellent, very good value and the staff very pleasant, highly recommended

Such a lovely cafe! We had 2 lattes, the nicest coffee I've had in a while, and 2 almond croissants, which came with jam and butter and they were hot. Friendly staff and the garden is beautiful.

We ordered coffee and one bacon bap and one sausage bap. We waited for 40 minutes and the coffee arrived. The coffee was very good. After seeking out the waitress the baps arrived. An underwhelming experience. The rolls were small and brioche type sweet bread, definitely not baps. The bacon and sausage was supermarket quality. A very poor experience overall, £17.65 was too expensive for this food. We will avoid when we return to Stratford.

Lovely little place away from tourist hoards that throng round Sheep Street. Gardens out back of this place are an obvious draw. I’d been before when it was sunny and it is lovely to sit outside and eat here. Unfortunately poured today as we arrived but ‘fortunately’ got last table under roofed terrace so happy to sit and watch rain as we tucked into a shared ploughman’s and some ‘nicely’ made coffee. Staff were lovely and friendly. I suppose just your luck when you arrive and how this place goes for you. Ours was midsummer gladness! Recommend.

Attractive venue from outside, pleasant and helpful staff, lovely outside space at the back of the premises. Unfortunately, food very poor, hot dog option was a cheap gristle sausage, lamb curry was off the menu even at just after 1pm, apparently not even cooked or ready, (the reason I chose to go there in the first place, paid for meal, then told curry not available after payment), chips thin and dry. Steak pie replacement for non existent lamb curry very dry but ok, gravy would have saved it. Very disappointing food experience overall. What a shame, because the staff were lovely.

Very upset just got home from having lunch , I ordered a vegan sausage roll. It comes with salad and crisps. There was coleslaw on the plate. I’m allergic to eggs, diary, fish and most meats. The coleslaw wasn’t vegan I didn’t eat it, but even by the time I had my vegan roll I could feel my skin flaring up. Lucky I carry my meds with me at all times. They were lucky I doubled checked about the coleslaw. Why don’t they ask if you have an allergies! The sign is hidden by the sign of the till. Usually most places always ask do you have any allergies when you ask for vegan. Avoid if you have allergies. Even a vegan by choice would have been offended.

Really slow service for breakfast. Over 45 minute wait for simple eggs on toast order. No explanation or apologies. Would have been a lovely location in their sunny garden but on the basis of this visit we won’t be returning.

This was the best restaurant I've been in for weeks. Excellent food and very friendly and helpful staff. A beautiful garden to eat in, the food was excellent and the the prices were very reasonable. The Winstable Bay Blonde was a good choice on a hot day. The whole experience went above and beyond.

If you're looking for a light lunch (or pastry!), you can't go far wrong. Staff is VERY friendly and the best is being able to sit in a lovely sun-lit garden, away from crowds. There are tables in the shade as well. The food was piping hot, the burger was cooked just as we asked. We found the prices reasonable and can recommend it.

Looks great from the outside but once inside it goes downhill! Difficult to get to the tables at the back if there are people paying at the till. Ordered two diet cokes and the bottles came sat in the glass! Not the most hygienic practices....

it’s a great place to eat ,staff are so sweet and food is really enjoyable has a big garden aswell good for the summer.
