We we were en route and saw this pub which looked decent enough. We were planning to just have a sandwich , which I did and it was very good, a real plateful for £7.25 and my husband had the scampi. We both agreed that the chips were superb . The service was warm and welcoming, the garden area was great ( but too hot for us to use ) . The place looks like it needs a bit of TLC but the food and service are worth calling in for .

Land lady friendly and welcoming but the whole place is very rundown and disappointing. Bedroom and bathroom needs completely renovating. Room 1 is small, window does not close, bathroom very old fashioned and poorly decorated. No TV. Dinner was ok but the tables were sticky and there was food on the floor.

Unfortunately, I can’t rate this pub any higher, it’s in desperate need of some money spending on it. Sat in beer garden for a drink after circular walk at Wharram Percy. Wasn’t expecting a lot as read reviews, but a spacious, dog friendly beer garden was mentioned. Random bits of furniture that had seen better days dotted around outside, no one else sat in garden on a lovely sunny afternoon and only 1 family eating inside. All the decor is very dated & totally worn out. They’ve given the toilets a lick of paint and they were at least clean, but this isn’t going to attract new customers in its current state. My husband had the IPA which was good but my lager (Birra Moretti) was flat and watery and my Daughter’s 3 lemonades were totally flat. The lady serving was friendly but this isn’t somewhere we would want to revisit sorry.

The room we stayed in was far from good and it grieves me that we paid £70 for the night The room was shabby and old and the bathroom area awful The sash window had gaps and I'm sure a wasp nest was close by The electric plug extension was I feel dangerous and the lighting archaic The owner must be aware that this place needs huge modernization Didn't rate the food that much either THIS PUB WILL CLOSE UNLESS IT UPDATES ITSELF Definitely not recommended

We we’re passing through on Sunday 27th September and I asked if they had a table free the young girl greeted me at the door and told me what she had free I then came in with the family the young girl couldn’t do enough she was fantastic she showed us to our seats she gave us a speech about where to exit and when to wear masks which we thought was very professional and extremely useful she then served us drinks and food asked if we’d like a high chair she was constantly smiling and chatting it felt a very personal experience we didn’t feel like just another customer who had walked through the door she made every moment personal and we could clearly see she did the same for everyone else she was constantly on her feet checking on people and chatting but it did feel like she was carrying the team that she was on her own but none the less the service was great we asked her name and it was daisy and we’d just like to say a huge thank you to her for the excellent service and for making our visit special it’s definitely one of the best meals out we’ve had and the service had a lot to do with that the food was lovely and a great sized potion the only down side to our trip was the old man who came in and sat down he wasn’t wearing a mask he came through the exit straight past our table and started swearing and having ago at daisy for the fact he wasn’t in his usual seat there were a few people around at this point and he had no problem showing the young girl up in front of her customers or swearing in front of children but I’m proud to say she took it on the chin and kept smiling so I hope this young girl gets some sort of recognition from her boss as she’s an asset to the team we will definitely be back for some more amazing food and amazing service

We recently visited this village pub on a recommendation but we were deeply unimpressed. The salmon fish cakes were bland and processed: if they weren't factory made and out of the freezer, they tasted like it. The lasagne was best described as "mushy". Our server was good but the host, a lady was indifferent and uninterested. There are far better pubs for food in this area: maybe we hit an off day?

A returning visit after not being for a while and I was reminded of what a gem this place is. An authentic, traditional Yorkshire pub with splendid grub (recommend Sunday roast and Grimsby scampi). Covid safe, and still the most attentive of staff who take great care of you...just ask and they’ll try and help. Lovely garden at the back, a cosy lounge and WiFi, which is useful around this neck of the woods with poor signal. Enjoy!

Literally my perfect restaurant, an authentic Yorkshire pub, with cosy charm and hearty good food. Me and my Partner frequented here on a number of Sundays even though we lived in York (which is a good 45 min drive away) because there is no where else quite like it. The staff are welcoming and accommodating, on one occasion when I introduced my friends to the pub we went in for one of their gorgeous home-cooked breakfasts, the landlady didn't have enough eggs but she offered us scrambled eggs instead which were lovely. As well as the English breakfasts I would recommend the baguettes and the pies which are all freshly cooked, the portions are hearty and the price is low. I first came across the Middleton Arms on a trip out to see the deserted medieval village of Wharram Percy on a cold winters day, the Middleton Arms was a most welcome and cosy place of respite after our cold walk, with a merry fire and a friendly black labrador to greet us. This is how most country pubs should be but very few hit the mark, it is an authentic reminder of a gentler and more hospitable time, The Middleton Arms in the Yorkshire wolds is a one in a million hidden treasure. Historical interest: The Middleton Arms is located in the ancient village of North Grimston which would have originally been a Anglo-Scandinavian settlement Grimrs tun (Grimms place) After of before your meal take a walk to the medieval church of St Nicholas which has an amazing and unique Norman font which is the only in the country which depicts Christ being taken off the cross. 12 mins down the B1248 in the car will bring you to Wharram Percy the most archaeologically researched Deserted medieval village in the country which is free to visit. 14 Mins West along Cordyke Lane will take you to Kirkham Priory, with a beautuful and rare medieval monastic gateway. You must pay to visit this interesting English Heritage property but the walks along the river Derwent are also charming and beautiful.

Very much a locals pub but the menu was extensive and everything we had was truly delicious. Very tasty food, well presented and big enough portions to keep you going on a long walk. The staff were friendly, welcoming and could not do enough for you. The pork in mustard sauce was divine and the home grown rhubarb crumble was just fabulous. Have returned to this place and had a lunch recently and again, all food cooked and presented well.

The beer is all right and the price is competitive, but I would never visit this pub again. I stood at the bar patiently while the barmaid served someone in front of me. That was fine, but while I was waiting, someone else turned up at another part of the bar. The barmaid ignored me when she had finished serving the first customer and greeted the new person (obviously a regular) who had just arrived and asked him if he wanted his usual. The regular told her that I was before him but she carried on anyway without any apology to me. Eventually I got my drinks but to make matters worse, she tried to palm me off with a short measure and I had to insist that she top it up.

We received a warm welcome, and found the room comfortable and well equipped. The en-suite in Room 1 has a bath, very welcome after a day's walking, and plenty of hot water. We ate very tasty home-cooked food in the restaurant, and also enjoyed a hearty breakfast the next morning. Would definitely recommend.

Stopped here for food on a whim after visiting nearby Wharram Percy and so glad we did. Meals were great quality and proper Yorkshire portions! Staff were very friendly and they allowed us to bring our dog in with us too. The interior is quite dated and the beer selection isn't fantastic - mostly the usual mass produced stuff- but i'm not going to deduct points for that when the pub is in the middle of nowhere! If you're walking the wolds way and looking for some grub, this is the place to go!
