Mick's Monster Burgers in Portsmouth

First trip out after surgery and this was my choice and what a beautiful visit. I asked the husband to request my bacon well done - and it was perfect. I was ordered a large bacon and egg bap and the first bite was amazing. It was nearly as big as my head. The husband ordered a chilli dog and loved it - and had half of bap!!! Always fab food with amazing views. Thank you

Was expecting good food after hearing about this place. Stopped before a very long day ahead as an emergency response driver so was hungry! Ordered a well done bacon and mushroom roll and a tea. Asked if I wanted sauce I said brown and was given a little paper bag with three silly little sachets rather than then just putting sauce on the roll. The bacon was like leather, not crispy and not my idea of well done. Tinned mushrooms which o absolutely hate and a lazy choice. The roll just crumbled apart making it impossible to eat cleanly. Way too big for the meager filling. There are far better places around for the money. The only pros to this place is the view and the fact it's open 24Hrs I can't see me bothering again.

Ordered 2 portions of cheesy chips to take home, got home and realised the chips were pale and so undercooked they were hard in the middle and soggy.

Mick's Burger van is situated on the B2177,Portsdown Hill, Portsmouth. Free Very Large car park to accommodate motorcycles & cars and larger vehicles, menu wise there's plenty to choose from & hot & cold drinks. Good price's & friendly staff. While visiting Mick's you can look out from the hill and take in the fantastic view over the south coast ,plus Mick's is open 24/7 ALL YEAR ROUND. I would highly recommend it. One last point i should say is that there's no tables just a few benches and if like me you ride up to Ports down Hill when raining there is no cover to shelter from the rain. But Well Worth the visit.

Ordered chips, they are cheap and hard, and overpriced. They staff have rubbish attitudes and poor costumer service skills. They make it very clear they do not want to be working. The worse part is this is not the first time. I come a few month before and got burgers and chips. It was an awful experience. I had hair in the bun! The food was all wrong. Aswell as the rude staff. I like to come up the hill for the view. This burger van takes advantage of this. They need to improve!

Never fails to impress, my friend & I always call in after a walk with the dog on a Sunday for brekki or brunch depending on the time fantastic view whatever the weather thoroughly recommend 🌞😎

Good burgers but still substance over quality. Visited in a hot sunny day was surprised to see no queue. May be people don't want burgers in summer but surely the car park was packed. Will visit again

Another amazing visit to Micks, I had a bacon and egg roll, hubby had the most massive burger with everything you can have on a burger!! Definitely worth a visit for breakfast, lunch or even a hot chocolate and a chat with a friend

Even in the cold wind and rain there was queue, and having read some of the reviews, my expectations were high. I went for a large burger with a fried egg aka an egg burger, and I wasn't disappointed in the large soft bap or the egg....however, the burger was extremely poor. Who cares if it is half a pound if it is tasteless and of questionable origin?! If you like a large, cheap and nasty burger in a nice soft bap with a decent view, then this place is for you.

My new favourite place to eat, i could eat their food 24/7. the burgers are massive and definitely affordable!! my family can’t get enough of this marvellous place. i’m in love with every item of the menu!! they are also incredibly quick making your food, i really recommend the cheeseburger!!

Such biiggg foodd! With a wonderful view, quick and friendly service too. Love a big burger and hot drink, dont order too much or you wont manage it! Also bring a hat for waiting in line!! Even if you think its not cold!

We've not been here before but mum and I enjoyed our burger and chips. Big portions but tasty! There was a long queue (worth the wait though) and not everyone was social distancing unfortunately, but otherwise it was good and I'm sure we'll be back.

Arrived at lunchtime to a reasonable queue, however it moved relatively quickly and was socially distanced with a clear one way system in place.Both burgers and the cheesy chips to share were generous in size and very tasty. The burger buns were so fresh and did not disintegrate, which is so much better than most you get served in restaurants! The cheese was melted onto the chips and was stringy and delicious. We've lived here for years, heard the legendary tales but never actually visited.Staff were organised, polite and had a bit of banter with customers and each other which believe me was so welcome in these strange times of working at home!I very rarely give 5 stars but these guys deserve it. Well done Micks!

Excellent Bacon Roll and Coffee following a planned early morning kayak paddle being postponed due to tides. Fast, friendly service and good quality food.

This place kept me going during lockdown as being the only place open when I started walking over Portsdown Hill for daily exercise! Thank you Micks, I will remember you during those days in March - June. I came up walking here for a cuppa a few times and your staff were always polite and helpful and very effective queuing system. An institution for a reason. Great tea and great burgers and lovely staff and great views of Portsmouth and the IOW. All welcome. Whats not to like?

Great views over the City, The Solent and IOW etc. Mick’s promises a monster burger and that’s what you get - how monstrous you go is up to you. Good queuing system, good nosh.

Arriving back at Mick's after a 7.19 Mile Hike over Portsdown Hill to Southwick, we saw the short but ever faithful queue. All are welcome at Mick's and over the years I have visited as a Biker, Driver and now Hiker, such is the allure of Mick's Monster Burgers.I had come in search of their famous Egg, Cheese & Mushroom hot roll; although not a vegetarian myself, believe me when I say that this culinary masterpiece would suit most tastes and gives vegetarians an option. At £4.10 for the large roll, complete with Onion, its well worth the money and all I needed to warm me up.

Organised queuing and serving and waiting area and one way system in place. Good food as usual . restricted times at the moment , finishing at 10pm.

After visiting Fort Nelson in these trying times, what better than to go along the Portsdown Hill a little further and stop for a snack. Stunning views of Portsmouth and beyond from up here while you sample Mick's burgers. Very good and definitely worth stopping for. Very good value. Do not miss. So much better than golden arch ones.

These burgers....what can I say....they're not good for you but dam....They are top quality ingredients, served by friendly staff no matter what time of night you go. If you're visiting this is a must go for a dirty greasy delicious dinner with a beautiful view.

First time up here since COVID. The social distance was good. Good system in place. Even bag up food now.

Parking is at a premium on a warm Sunday but going around the bouy 4 times was worth it. Burgers, hot dog and Cheesy chips. What's not to like. View is perfect and the food even better. Surprised no aliens turn up it's so good.

These burgers really are monster sizes, no wonder this place is popular. Both my daughters gave 9.5/10 for their cheeseburgers and 10/10 for the cheesy chips. They couldn't manage the whole burgers in on go so saved half and had for dinner later.Happy teenager daughters = happy dad. Lovely views from Portsdown Hill over Portsmouth whilst eating the food.

The food is mega good, and have to say even the smallest is huge. There is a menu that is well thought out. It is very busy with cooked to order food but only had a short wait. Social distancing is very good with nobody waiting at the counter and all food bagged up.

This was my first visit to Micks Monster Burgers. What an experience. Everyone who lives in and around Portsmouth - including Southampton - should come here at least once in your life to experience this. Big burger bun served fresh (being veggie mine was fried egg with onions), and then you sit on Portsdown Hill and take in the view. Awesome. A truly inspiring and life-affirming experience, particularly now during lockdown.

Queued for 30 mins in the rain, I only wanted a coffee, when I got to the serving hatch"card only"?(card at home) No signs anywhere stating that! It's mainly students up there and they seem to have missed the bit about 2mtr distancing or they can't read! Queuing has always been an issue at Micks, the solution? Create a seperate serving hatch 4 drinks n snacks only.

Excellent set up with the social distancing , prices reasonable for what is just a burger van on a hill.I wanted to enjoy the 1/2lb burger but it was like the ones you can buy at the fun fair , tasteless! if it was not for onions you couldn't taste difference between the sausage baps they do.Good points , both burger and sausage bap were hot and a good size. Chips were greasy but again a good size portion for £2.50 .Egg and bacon baps next time me thinks....If you found this helpful please tick.

This beacon of hope high on Portsdown Hill sets an example to others, countless others, of what can be done in these difficult times. I nearly cried. The menu is extensive within its genre. Perfectly acceptable social distancing is in place for both ordering and waiting. The prices are very good, the service equally so and the food is exceptionally good. There are a dozen ways is which this puts the still-closed chains to shame. I would say it competes on price but that would be unfair to Mick's because it's in a different class. Great burger - I also had egg, cheese and onions. A bun that doesn't disintegrate half way through the meal. A generous portion of excellent chips, not fatty and made with actual potatoes. Generous sachet portions of salt and vinegar. All this from one of the best viewpoints in Hampshire. Today, I reached out for a little bit of normality and was rewarded with the exceptional.

In the dead of winter on a bitter cold night I arrived on a recommendation from a friend..Blown away at the big queue..But they sailed through it and i got my order in no time at all..100% winner food at a great price and such friendly staff..This should replace every Mcd's in the country.no question

Very disappointing burger, will try the bacon and mushroom roll next time, but not a burger as its very cheap and nasty.

Heard through the grapevine that this is the place for the best burgers around' food we saw as we waited looked good. How ever once we had our food this turn out to be average at best burgers tasted like those at a fair ground and chips where greasey. Not worth the wait of half hour and as for the great reviews other have left i would suggest these people get out more.

Food is always tasty and hot but the lady with the blond hair needs some customer service skills! Very rude and acts like she doesn't want to be there. The lads are always polite and friendly.

Always visit Mick’s when we are in Portsmouth. Never had a problem. Huge portions reasonable priced too. The views are fabulous, especially in a clear day.

Drive up the hill to get a burger with family, was busy but parked up and enjoyed a cheese burger, son in law had the big one, cheesy chips which were fab. Lovely eating it with the marvelous views over the Solent. Always worth a visit and space for children to play and for dogs to have a walk.

Best burger for miles but you do need a LARGE appetite. It is always popular no matter what time of day or night. View fantastic

This place is fantastic burgers and chips are unreal. If you could cater for people with gluten intolerance so I don’t have to hear how amazing the food is whilst checking out the views that would be great.

Just returned from another fantastic meal at Micks. If you want service with a smile, efficiency, humour and advice, look out for Mark. Cannot be beaten. Oh, and the foods good too.

I came up on Tuesday as I’ve heard so much about the place and thought as I’m here I might as well go by and order a gut buster. The man cooking swiftly said for fu** sake what a c***, who gets this at this time... sorry I ordered something off the menu. If it’s such a big deal then take it off the menu. I’ll go somewhere else next time.

So just visited micks burger van and got served by James and well fantastic customer service great food and had a laugh while waiting for my food will definitely be going back there 10/10

Excellent choice of burgers and hot dogs from small to OUTRAGEOUS but you should find what you like and the chips here are very very good

All food cooked fresh, cheesy cups are UNREAL, great quantity for a small price, staff are very helpful and will tailor to your needs (e.g, cut off the fat from bacon or remove onions etc ) crave this place all the time, all round amazing definitely visit !! Amazing views over Portsmouth especially at night time

Was introduced to this local gem on a day trip.Quite a que to get served but worth the wait .Had a portion of chips that I thought were a tad expensive at over £2 , but wow worth every penny fantastic chips and a huge portion big enough for two to share .One of our party had The cheesy chips and they were also great..Will have to try the gut buster burger next time I visit , it looked massive and extremely tasty

Whenever I come back to visit friends and family I always visit micks burgers. A staple of Portsmouth since my childhood! The best cheesy chips in the world and the most amazing burgers. See you next time when I'm visiting!

Always great big burgers and exactly what you ask for. IMHO, no complaints but nothing special either. So busy all the time it's just a production line service, no time for pleasantries. Next.

Been going here on and off for years. Burgers are as good as ever. But the chips ... although you get plenty these were burnt and not nice. Also the last few times the females who serve need a training course on how to talk to the public.

The portions are monstrous but I was disappointed with the quality of my burger, which was unspectacular. The view over Portsmouth is fantastic, particularly at sunset. I would definitely return to admire the view but I’m not sure I would eat here again.

Mi amigo y yo nos apetecía una buena comida y no queríamos gastar demasiado. Los precios aquí creo que están bien, ya que siempre estoy lleno si pido papas fritas y hamburguesas pequeñas. Lugar encantador para ultramar Portsmouth. Gran cantidad de comida para elegir y un agradable personal para charlar mientras esperas.

I started off cycling up to Micks from nearby Waterlooville when I was in my teens, then once I had transport, I would occasionally go there for a nice burger after I had been "down the town" on a Saturday morning. As my motorbikes got bigger I would frequent "the hill" to chat to perfect strangers, making friends and banter along the way, all the while with Micks Monster Burgers as the backdrop. Now in my 40s, I still visit "the hill" for a bite to eat, either with the wife because we (she) can't be bothered to cook, or with friends once we're on the wind down from a good motorbiking rideout.

Really amazing burgers, they are huge. Very friendly staff and great burgers. May have to queue a while but well worth the wait. Great value for money. With an amazing view across Portsmouth.

This is a wonderful hidden gem. Good fresh food with a perfect view. They accept card payments which is a bonus. On a good clear day you can see for miles. Was well worth the trip.

After work late visit , nice and quiet and good still better than ever . Pineapple cheese burger , chips are delicious aswell. I love the food here and the staff always friendly too. Could only take 1 pic as I was so hungry and I’m a big fan of mayo and ketchup lol See you again soon guys

Have been here many times. Great views and a nice place to go with friends. The food is exactly what you need when you don't feel like cooking. Queues are always long but that just goes to prove how good and popular this place actually is. Not over priced. If you want gormet food then I'd give it a miss but if you want a decent burger at a decent price then go for it. Only down side there are no toilets up there.

what can i say, this is one of the best 24/7 burger vans in the country. always busy night and day. was staying local with walking distance from fort widley, when at 2am decided to mooch over to micks.

A previous review mentioned funfair food in a negative way. But I love a dirty treat once in a while and Mick’s burgers are worth it. Old style buns with meat that has that typical burger van cooked taste. It seems that works for many as the place is always packed.

Visit Micks every now and again as a big tasty treat.

Arrived at about 5am only ordered tea and coffee, greeted by a server that was cheerful and chatty. Span the yarn for a few minutes and got served good coffee at a cheap price.

Burgers are OK and good value, but this place is about the view! The hot chocolate isn't bad either!

Have always given this outlet a good report before - good choice, good value and good food but have just seen they now have a sign saying they use Genetically Modified oil in there deep fat fryer. This is NOT FOR ME !!!!

As a family we have loved coming here for many years. It has been a few years since our last visit though and it was still worth it. Now a veggie I wondered if they would cater for me and they do, a huge mushroom, egg and cheese roll, added a little bit of salt and it was perfect. Family had usual burgers and they thoroughly enjoyed theirs. To top it all you can sit and eat it while enjoying an amazing view over a brilliant city all the way to the Isle of Wight.

Speedy service, great tasting, excellent value burger! Lovely view too! Very popular and a massive green area for children to play. Suitable for all. Would highly recommend 😊

My partner & I went here after being recommended the place (and after a very long walk) and we can both say that it was worth it, we ordered a bacon cheese burger (monster) and a cheese with chilli relish monster burger, cheesy chips & two cans of drink, this came to £16, yes some might say this is expensive but we thought it was a decent price for the size of the burgers and the amount of cheesy chips you get!

Late night at the pictures most places shut, you can always rely on Mick's to fill you up. Cheesy chips and a jumbo Hot Dog this time and then back for bacon burger!

We came here last night (Friday 27th April 2018) and we ordered 2 burgers, chips and drinks. Which were all delicious but the 2 ladies who served us had the worst attitude and were more concerned about talking about their private lives and airing their dirty laundry so the whole queue could here.

The food here is always amazing. Open 24/7 365 days of the year including Christmas. The prices may seem a little higher than you would expect but the food is definitely worth it! I thought they had ran out of donuts but one of the guys went to their stock van and found a load more so I could have one. From burgers and hot dogs to filled rolls and cakes! It is like a little mobile burger restaurant.

If you’re visiting Portsmouth, this is a great place to go that you won’t see in the tourist brochures!

Me and my friend got hungry , odd I know at 1am but we decided to go up the hill to micks burger van. I’m glad we did , whilst ordering we chatted to James who served us , was friendly and funny . Sold us 2 flapjacks with chocolate chips which were amazing , said they were made micks grandson so we had to try. Our burgers had pineapple in it as my friend said it would be amazing and she was right . Everything was so good and we are gonna do it randomly more often .

I visited this food truck with my friend who was eating there a lot of times before. For me was it the first one and I was a bit concerned but! Burgers were tasty and small one was actually pretty big. But chips. OMG- chips! The best chips in my entire life. you should definitely try!
