Great local spot for fish and chips. Gets busy in the evenings but worth the wait

Amazing food , everything cooked to perfection, lovely crispy batter and the cleanest chips I've ever had not one bruise/black spot anywhere. Very polite and accommodating staff, they kindly did me a half price portion of chips as I hate waste and there portions are massive. Can't recommend enough. Hidden gem.

Burger was cremated, bun was stale and had no salad or sauce Very expensive waste of money Stay away!!

The best fish and chips in the area. Service is exceptional and very friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. The fish is freshly cooked and can be cooked to order. Chips are excellent as are the sausages and other delicious items that are also available. The food is consistently good. I would thoroughly recommend this fish and chip shop to anyone.

I've been coming to Michael's since I moved to the area in 2015, friendly, kind, quick service and they recognise the regulars and know their names, they are just as friendly to people who aren't as regular. Best Chippy for miles!

Friendly place, but I don't think they understand the concept of seasoning. Not only was the fish the blandest I've ever tasted, the batter was soggy and the chips greasy and too soft. It wasn't cheap, either...

I have been a customer of Michael's for years, but unfortunately, I will consider not returning based on value for money. £12.40 for regular fish and chips. Chips were a decent sized portion, but the fish was unbelievably small. The pic is of the skin and batter after eating the fish. The fish was so thin, less than 5mm thick. I don't have a large appetite at all, but having finished this meal, I could eat the same size fish again!

I haven’t been here in years coz previously their fish had no taste and their chips were dripping in fat, but very dry in taste I’m afraid to report I had cod and chips today and nothing really has changed Cod was tasteless and dripping in oil, chips were equally poor Sorry guys, but should do better

Fish slightly over and batter a bit soggy. I guess it had been sitting there a while as service was very quick. Always been good before, so I will go back.

Friendly lads there, and they get straight to it. Our go-to takeaway Fish & Chip shop. They've never disappointed ever since we tried them out - since moving into the area almost a year plus ago (now coming to 2 years) Solid quality of fish and quick turnaround. Draws quite abit of us locals and has been a staple fixture for my wife and I on the weekends (sometimes) Keep up the great work lads and thank you for bringing a local crowd fixture and favourite to the area - cheers 🥂

Tried this place for the first time last night and great service from the guys here, even to complement my shirt! Only constructive comment would be that the sausage and batter is really small compared to other fish and chip shops, however haddock cooked well and nice light batter!

Visited because I wanted spare ribs which they advertise. What I got instead was deep fried belly of pork. Fatty, dry, flavorless and tough as old boots. To top it off it cost me £10.00 for four strips of pork belly! A totally different cut of meat to spare ribs and not one that I would buy in the shops for this reason. When one thinks of spare ribs, they think slow cooked, juicy, fall off the bone meat not some cremated deep fried cheap cut of fat. Not even a bit of salt on it for flavour. Do they even know what spare ribs are? I doubt it. I called them to ask for my money back which they obliged, but it would have meant doing a 30 minute round trip. I said I would bring the food back, (which they specifically asked for, why is beyond me? Wouldn't surprise me if it was to heat up and give to some other poor unsuspecting local) but that would of meant having greasy soggy meat wrapped in paper in my car all day. If a customer calls you to complain about not receiving what they ordered, and you agree that yes, it is pork belly and not ribs, then you apologize and refund them. What you don't do is ask them to drive 30 minutes out of their way to return a perishable item. These people have no sense or decency! Really upsets me off when I spend money on things that end up in the bin, or in this case the fox's stomach. Surprised even he ate it. Further more their customer service skills are lacking!

Very disappointed tonight. Order was small haddock & chips. Supposedly freshly cooked.The fillet was incredibly skinny, especially for haddock, and dry which makes me think it had been sitting in the warming cabinet for a while and at 6.00 in the evening that shouldn’t be the case, also both fish & chips cold by time got home. Only live 2 minutes drive away from shop so really no opportunity for order to get cold, never has before. Certainly not up to usual standard. Problem is once you’ve had a bad experience will think twice about going back especially as it is no longer a cheap takeaway. If it was perfect then I have no problem spending that sort of money.

Gets very busy at peak times, but the staff are friendly, the banter in the crowd of waiting customers can be entertaining and most importantly, the food is good.

visiting from Manchester and was told that this was a great chip shop. I ordered one portion of chips and one chips and curry. i had to ask to have the chips and curry put into a tray and was looked at as if i was stupid and when i asked if that was all the curry i was getting after being charged £1.90 for an extremely small amount of curry sauce that did not even cover the chips . I was again looked at as if i was stupid for raising a query. Avoid at all costs unless you are happy to be ripped off.

Freshly cooked which is a plus. The food is not boxed up just given wrapped in paper which we did not like as we prefer a sturdier box. Easier to carry for take aways Whilst we understand price increases have been necessary the cost of fish and chips here is far too high. The service was efficient but robotic

June 2022. Although a bit pricey (where isn't these days!) Large Cod was very good.

Very overpriced! We were treating our Son, his partner & the grandkids to a chip shop tea as they live in Bookham. Cost almost double what we paid for the same order at our local chippy 2 weeks ago! It wasn’t just us, 2 other people queried the prices while we were there as well. Food was ok but not great, The tub of mushy peas came in a container half the size of what our local chip shop uses. Never again!

Yet again after arriving home with my chips which were pre ordered we find that the order is wrong, this isn't the 1st, 2nd or 5th time but it is the last. Even when ordering over the counter I have to give the order 3 or 4 times and then we get home and it's wrong. We're looking for a new chippy so any suggestions.

Not the best takeout I have had . standard batter that is bland slightly undercooked chips . On the more expensive side compared to others in the area. Lots of locals use this place with long queues at weekends.

Says they shut at 10:30pm on a Friday - Came all the way to find it was already fully locked up and dark at 10:15! (Would have had to have at least closed by 10pm to have cleaned/locked up etc by that time) shouldn't advertise opening hours if your not going to abide by them and mess around customers
