Very underwhelming experience. We arrived for our booking only to be kept waiting at another table for 10 minutes as the couple at our table had apparently overrun their allotted time, however given our experience I imagine it had more to do with their terrible organisation. It wasn’t until the last minute in our holding pen that someone bothered to take a drinks order. Then we got moved to our actual table and apparently disappeared into thin air. Completely forgotten about. We’d had plenty of time to look at the menu, so were able to order pretty quickly. But an hour wait for some very mediocre and uncomplicated starters is a joke. Few slices of grilled halloumi on some shredded iceberg lettuce, some olives and pitta and a portion of scampi (which would have been about 2x main portions in any other restaurant!) Would have been quicker, cheaper and less painful for me to stop by a supermarket, make it all at home, and bring it back to the restaurant. Plates eventually cleared and the waiter asks if we’d had our main courses yet… 🤦🏻‍♀️ They eventually turned up and, credit to the chefs, were absolutely delicious. Generous portion sizes, too. As you may guess, we didn’t bother with dessert and paid the bill at the bar on the way out - didn’t have another 3hrs to wait for it to come to the table. Overall a massive shame as the food tastes good but is completely let down by abysmal service.

Don’t get me wrong but this is a lovely restaurant - and has always served us well - but last night I just don’t know what went wrong - Service was disorganised and a frightening long wait for food - White bait starter was dark brown / over fried to the point of being on the cusp of inedible - others were more fortunate and had a palatable offering. Mains - paella was over cooked and stodgy - not at all like the genuine article Chops were cold and returned together with the accompanying fries - two attempts made to deliver decent chips - failed on both !! The beef stifado was a saving grace as this was served hot and was enjoyed - Will give it a couple of months and pop back - I’m sure this was a momentary blip !

We decided to give Meze Grill another try, having eaten there last year and been disappointed. Unfortunately, it wasn't much better and we won't be going back. The service was friendly enough but rushed and disinterested, despite there being a lot of staff. The wine was good value for a restaurant, we would have possibly ordered another bottle but nobody came back to ask if we wanted anything else, or to check that our food was okay. We ordered the meze for two and overall, the food was very average and I wouldn't say very authentic compared to food in Greece. Portions were irregular - way too much whitebait and calamari but only two prawns! They forgot to bring out our Greek salad and we had to remind them at the end of the meal, by which time it was a bit late. The worst part was that the chicken and fish were both raw in the middle, which is pretty unforgivable. We've travelled and eaten out a fair amount and I don't think I've ever experienced being served raw meat or fish. Although they were very apologetic, the way in which this was dealt with could have been better. The food was taken away but we weren't asked how we wanted it to be rectified. After partially eating some raw chicken and fish without realising, I was actually put off eating more but instead of asking us if we wanted it replaced or an alternative, we were given the same again, the fish taking so long to come back out that we assumed we weren't getting any at all. I also think, given that this could have made us ill, it would have been a nice gesture to take something off the bill or offer us a round of drinks or something but no. The bill for a bottle of wine, one beer and the meze for two came to £81 which is not good value for what we received and I'm afraid we won't be returning.

Terrible service and food. We had a table booked for 4 people, when we arrived we weren’t even acknowledged by any staff for a good 10 minutes, our table was in a weird location, they have changed it so the built in bench seats weren’t being used to try and fit more people in. We wanted to order the meze for 4 people and were told no as it would take too long to make and they were too busy. It took an hour for our starters to come (houmous, taramasalata and some scampi), they were all pretty rubbish quality! They didn’t clear the table before our mains arrived. The main meals were all too salty and also not great quality (souvlaki, kleftiki, stroganoff). We had to go to the bar to order extra drinks rather than table service, and when my friend went to the bar the waitress started to cry and walked off. Really felt for the staff there as there clearly hasn’t been any training or guidance on service, we had 4 different waiting staff come to our table at various points either trying to take our order again, or serving food to the wrong table. We were not even offered to look at the dessert menu, it seemed like they were pretty keen for everyone to finish their meals and leave!

The food was delicious and such a lot for the price, served by a very nice polite young man, the chef even came out and spoke to us, good choices on the menu, something to suit everyone. Clean and warm atmosphere, will definately be going back.

I had not been here for a long while and will not be returning. Our table was booked for 7pm, we were warming welcomed and shown to our table. Drinks ordered and arrived. I’ve never had a slice of strawberry garnish on and glass of Tarquin’s and tonic, not sure what that was all about. There was no Taramasalata available but were given complimentary Tzatziki, which was oily and runny, not nice at all. Our starter of Calamari consisted of 6 rings on a bed of lettuce with a drizzle of something on a clipped plate. The Klefico was a chump chop with gravy and rice with a salad! The gravy swamped the salad, which was mostly lettuce. There was nothing Greek about our meals. The service was poor as meals came out sporadically. I really can’t understand what the attraction is about this restaurant, but it’s not the food and service.

We came on father's day as a family,the food was okay but that's it. Having waited 30 minutes for our desert we had to ask where it was and they had lost our order so we re ordered and when we got home realized they had over charged us an extra desert. The feel of the place isn't Greek now.

We did not book as we went late afternoon. We were the only customers at first.. The restaurant interior was clean, light and well set out so customers would not be packed in. There was music playing which was pleasant and quiet enough to allow you to talk. I had looked at the menu online before our visit and knew they serve calamari. What we only found out when we arrived was there was an option of a set two course dinner between 17:00 and 19:00 for £16.00. The service was good as the waiter was attentive without being intrusive. I had calamari to start and moussaka as my main. The moussaka was rather overcooked on the top but was delicious. It was served with a Greek salad. My partner had bruschetta to start and stifado as his main. He enjoyed both courses and described the beef as tender enough to almost melt in his mouth and delicious tasting. It was served with rice. I had asked for baklava for my pudding. When asked what ice-cream I wanted I told the waiter none. As this order was put in at same time as main order he forgot and served it with chocolate ice-cream. I passed it over to my partner. Reasonably priced and good selection of tasty dishes. Well worth a visit in my opinion and should I be in Plymouth again looking for somewhere to eat I might go back.

Great service with amazing food, our family ordered meze for 4 people and the spread was amazing, we were really hungry and the portions were suitable to cope with that. Good variety across the dishes. (The moussaka is brilliant). We were paid close attention to by the waitress even when the restaurant got busier.

Last night we had a dinner with my friends actually that's my 5th time and we really enjoyed the food and my friends are very happy food amazing staff service great. I really recommend try once.

We had a table booked for 12 of us last night. I have to say the food was amazing and the staff were outstanding. All of us were super happy with food and service.

Booked table for 7:30. At 8:30 they bought our starters, I explained mine was wrong but no one took the plate away from me. Our mains came, and then the correct starter I ordered came as well? Part way through eating my main? The woman next to us was served mussels not cooked properly which made me nauseous. They kept just asking for the bill and saying they didn’t want any food or drinks but the owner seemed to be difficult in accepting this. I didn’t eat any of my main course and wasn’t asked why, we weren’t asked if anything was okay. It was so bland. Bad souvlaki. We just couldn’t wait to pay and leave, and getting attention of staff to pay the bill was impossible even though we were standing by the bar. The entire time inside I felt extremely anxious and uncomfortable as there was hardly any staff, we were waiting for over an hour and it was just far too busy like they had filled the restaurant with as much customers as possible, taking their money but not taking time to make sure they are even served what they ordered. I wish they had just not taken our booking as we could have gone somewhere else, there are loads of lovely restaurants on the Barbican with excellent service, even on busier nights.

Shocking ,table booked for 12 at 7pm 1hour.30 mins later 4 starters, 2 mains, then at 8.30 we had to ask for our orders to be taken 4 of us were minors as it was a birthday meal, we were charged 70 pounds for what we had ,cancelled around 9pm maybe later, children were hungry ,

We've eaten here 3 times previously & it was amazing so of course we booked again when we were in the area for the weekend. Sadly this time the service was appalling. Booked online & when we arrived the lady on the bar told us we would have to wait for the waiter who was rushed off his feet. Once seated we weren't offered drinks & nearly 15 mins after arriving I had to ask to order. We ordered 2 gin & tonics, the meze for 2 & a bottle of wine to have with our food plus water for the table. Another 20 minutes passed before our wine appeared so I pointed out we hadn't received our gins or water. The gins appeared followed by our food an hour after we were seated. The food is still fantastic but the front of house is awful. We had to ask again for our water once the food arrived. All around us you could hear people querying their bills, tables weren't cleared as people left & a group on a different table didn't receive one of their starters at all. They asked us our opinion on the service & we expressed our dismay as previous visits were far better. Looking at the reviews now it would seem this has been an issue since new owners took over. You need to sort out your front of house & you need more staff. So disappointing & you apologised as we left but didn't offer anything to compensate so we didn't leave a tip. You can't expect to be tipped for bad service. Such a shame!

We used to go there but this time we saw new staff and came to know that it's under new management but unbelievable very polite staff very friendly and food wow super very nice. We really highly recommend this place for your family.

Where Do I start ….. So we’re a local business and have used many restaurants on the Barbican and around Plymouth the last few years we have been using the Meze grill for our Xmas party and have had a great time there service / food / atmosphere… Right now this year We returned table pre booked for 15 people. .So we Arrive at 8 o’clock as arranged. Hmmmm Different Owners..First niggle the table is not quite big enough for 15 people… so bit of shuffling problem solved … right let’s get some drinks in 8.15 …… 8.30 …… 8.45 ….. yayyyy we finally get our first drinks 45 minutes after arriving…. Not a great start and I’m afraid it just got worse and worse as time went by ….starters took about an hour to arrive and that was in bits n pieces 4 hear 2 there any how My starter arrives prawn cocktail well my word small side plate chipped on the edge a few leaves of lettuce a blob of sauce and at best about 7 prawns no brown bread I asked the waiter were was the brown bread traditionally served with a prawn cocktail he looked baffled, giggled and walked off … two mouth fulls and my starter was gone £7 a starter Wasent worth 70p well to say I was fuming was an understatement the nail in the coffin as we were being served the starters the waiter comes over now we have ordered mains about 40 mins earlier and says really sorry but the six peaple who ordered porterhouse steak really sorry but we have run out … Realy !! Ok change them for fillet sorry we’v also run out of fillet ….this is a joke ok change them all for sirloin guess what yes they have run out of that as well these new owners couldn’t run a booze up in a brewery totally ruined our Xmas party would never go back and would definitely not recommend this place Avoid Avoid Avoid

Booked via email on a Monday night for Saturday night, no confirmation to say OK, arrived Saturday evening at 19.30 for booked time, no table ready, got seated eventually and waitress took our drinks order along with the food order, 45 minutes later after asking 3 different servers for our drinks we were served some drinks, a further 25 minutes and the starters came out, 2x prawn cocktails minus the bread, after asking were told bread is extra charge, 1x tiramasalata, of which it had split and bowl was full of grease and lumpy. 20 minutes later the mains came out, not very well presented and missing side orders of chios instead of rice and came our with rice, the steak on the mixed grill,cwas asked to be prepared medium well, a good vet would of brought it back to life, still , the place was packed and looked OK but boy were we wrong choosing this establishment, safe to say we will not be returning.

Booked a meal for my wife’s birthday in October and were both very excited. We drove into Plymouth and got there to find that it was closed. We booked online and to have no contact informing us that they were closed was extremely frustrating.

Absolutely awful ! Overpriced . No lamb kleftico so had beef stroganoff May has well of been a small tin of mushroom soup with a few bits of beef floating around no taste ! Our friend had mixed grill which was like burnt offerings and been on the loo half the night not good at all ! Will not return Shame as waiter was so nice

The only thing I was amazed by at this restaurant was the glowing reviews in Trip Advisor as for me this definitely rates as a low point. The quality of the meze I was served (ingredients and cooking) was actually embarrassing. The pride and love in the making of this cuisine that we so looked forward to was completely absent. The starters looked and tasted store-bought and left us all asking - how hard is it to make fresh pitta, tzatziki and humous? Burned whitebait in breadcrumbs, really? Sloppy fish of the day and the strangest Moussaka I've ever tasted. Shout out to the waiting staff - you tried your best, but at £40/head, no-one was in the mood for tipping! Sorry.

Was let down by a pre- booked restaurant on a very busy Sunday. Was so lucky to find this fantastic place. We both opted for the 3 course Sunday lunch which quite frankly was superb. We will definitely return!!

Brilliant meal at Meze grill. Varied Greek menu with enough vegetarian options. Mushroom stroganoff was really tasty. Prices were reasonable and portions were generous - although would’ve maybe expected a little more for the price of starters. Staff were really friendly. Will definitely return.

Friendly and attentive staff, fabulous food and reasonably priced. Would recommend the meze for 2, varied sample menu, plenty of it, no need to order a starter or desert, will without doubt be returning to this hidden gem.

First time back in a while to this restaurant, which I think has changed hands (not sure), as menu is very different and more restrictive. However the food, particularly the main courses were outstanding and more authentically Greek than before. I wish they would present starter dips more nicely rather than undressed in a ramekin, but that’s being picky. Good and service were excellent.

Is this the worst restaurant I've ever encountered in terms of customer service? The simple answer is yes. Constantly ignored, every single communication, including initial requests for information from July onwards. I except that there can be staffing shortages, but 7 weeks of incompetence is hard to believe

Having turned up to a very well rated vegan restaurant in town (we're not vegan!) to be told that they had no kitchen staff due to covid, we were left somewhat in the lurch with our evening plans. We called up restaurants in TripAdvisor ranking order, to no avail, and then hit upon Meze Grill. It deserves to be ranked higher than 19.The mussels were the biggest I've ever had. The kleftiko was that tender that it would have fallen off the bone were it blown upon.We had the most fantastic evening, and were all of the opinion that the earlier cancellation had done us a favour, as we found somewhere that we will definitely go back to. The staff were there when you wanted them, but not in your face. They were knowledgeable about all of the food. The portions were a decent size, and the price was reasonable. Certainly cheaper than I'm used to paying in Manchester. It was empty when we arrived just before 6, but was full when we left 2.5 hours later. This place has a great atmosphere.

Randomly looked around the barbican for somewhere to eat and came across this little gem, food was perfect and the staff were incredible. Place was very quirky and had great atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

I have just had the most amazing lunch ever, The food was freshly cooked, tasty and plentiful, Lovely staff and the vodka martinis fab. This is now my number 1 restaurant in Plymouth. Really nice seating area, not crammed in and not rushed to leave.

The food was excellent quality and the staff really friendly. We had the sharing platter which I would highly recommend!

We visited after reading the the number of good reviews online and we weren’t disappointed with our trip here. The food was so tasty and the staff were very friendly. Will definitely eat coming back if we visit Plymouth again!

Visited for a meze lunch for our wedding anniversary today (Saturday 17th). I had emailed to book a couple of weeks ahead and let them know we are pescatarians (fish eating vegetarians). On arrival we received a warm welcome and the young waiter immediately knew who we were. I'm disabled so we were shown to a perfect table on street level, near to the ladies.The waiter explained how they have altered the menu for us to make the meze vegetarian. The replacement dishes were perfect, including one not on their normal menu. The starters came: the calamari is the best we have ever eaten and we have eaten in many Cypriot and Greek restaurants (my husband was posted to Cyprus). Everything great so far.Then the main courses arrived. So much food - amazing value. The mushroom stroganoff was the best I have ever tasted and I make my own which is pretty good but not as good as this. I would go back for that alone. There was far too much for us to finish even though my husband gave it his best attempt. They offered to box it up for us but we had a 2 hour journey home and it was 27 degrees so didn't think the food would survive. I highly recommend this restaurant to all - they really went out of their way to make a vegetarian menu for us. The waiter also makes a mean mojito!! We will definitely go back but maybe have less to eat. Excellent place.

A very nice place with attentive and welcoming staff. Menu is a little limited considering the wide range of Greek food that is available, but the prices are good value. Would be nicer if the background music was more traditional music and not modern pop as feel it would really add to the ambience. However, a lovely lunch and would recommend

Whilst visiting Plymouth , this restaurant was highly recommended by other visitors, so decided to give it a try. Decided on the Grand Meze for 2. Would easily feed 3! Restaurant run by the owner and his partner with chefs. Great atmosphere and as it was fairly quiet due to Euro 2020 the owner came and sat with us and chatted… just like being in Greece (or Cyprus where the owner came from).Definitely one to visit.

Highly recommend the Meze, was delicious and so nice to be able to sample so many dishes! Everything was served super quickly, service was amazing and very friendly. Beautifully decorated also. We are looking forward to coming back!

We were impressed with the comprehensive menu and excellent service. The only downside was it was a bit difficult to leave a tip with card only payments! I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. Please book ahead as it was very full.

The husband and I went for a Sunday roast And OMG it was absolutely gorgeous Would definitely recommend 100% Well done guys

Has to be my favourite restaurant in Plymouth. Staff are always friendly. Food is brilliant, the restaurant has a great atmosphere.

Superb steaks. Good service and banter from the staff. All round enjoyable experience, definitely visit again.

We have always loved visiting here and this was the first time since reopening. The roast has always been amazing but now is averageIt looks like the lunch menu has changed which is disappointing Not sure if we will return. Which is a shame as we loved it before lockdown

Oh My God! What a find!Stifado to die for. Souvlaki tastier than a Cypriots mother’s!I used to live in Cyprus and a meze as good as this across all the dishes is a rare find outside (and in) Cyprus.Service was speedier than a Gonzalez mouse and with a BIG smile.I’ve eaten in 3* Michelin starred restaurants in the south of France but these guys are challenging that brilliance.Just Wow.
