Chips hard kids nuggets and chips wet from the pea juice Coke was flat my son has autism and has vocal stims it was made very clear the lady was very uncomfortable and with having an autism child on the premises iv never felt discrimination like it before in my life stay clear!

Well, well, what can I say about the Metropole Restaurant? It’s like stepping into a time machine, but instead of going to a glamorous past, you end up in a 70s Indian restaurant that hasn’t seen a decorator since. The food? Let’s just say the microwave won the fight and cooked it all. I had the pleasure of a three-course meal that felt like a culinary endurance test. The starter was tin soup, which tasted like it had been sitting on the shelf since the 70s too. For the main course, I was treated to what seemed like a Tesco lamb ready meal. The two boiled potatoes were as white as a vampire, and the two roasted potatoes were just as pale. The green beans were turning brown, and the lamb slices were as thin as paper, drowning in a grey gravy that looked like an Australian swamp. I half-expected something to jump out and take my hand off! Dessert was a jam roly-poly with custard, but the custard looked more like yellow ectoplasm from a ghost. The atmosphere was non-existent, with staff watching me like hawks as I tried to eat what looked like fuel for the DeLorean from Back to the Future. The decor is a blast from the past, with a carpet that looks like it’s been through a flood and kept just to hide whatever’s under the floorboards. I honestly don’t know how this place is still open. Not even Gordon Ramsay could save this one!

We had a great meal. The only downside was the state of the toilets that need bringing into the 21st century. Other than that, no complaints

Food was ok, however whole atmosphere was horrible, as soon as we walk in we were not greeted in a friendly manner just frowned at, it was completely silent as no one else was in there, no background music so very awkward, owner just stared at us the whole time. When we were looking at menus she came out and chucked some biscuits on the wooden ledge and started eating them really loud, which was so off putting. Rudest waitresses I’ve ever met. When we were eating, we were just being stared at the whole time. very creepy vibe in there, felt like we were trapped in a horror film! Waste of money

My husband and I and our two children (4,5)visited this restaurant (if you can even call it that...dump more sums it up) when we walked the decor was very dated old carpets ,dusty, and old tablecloths, but we thought we'd give it a try as the kids were hungry, we were greeted by a friendly waitress. The food arrived the kids had chicken nuggets and chips that was fine, I had a very bland lasagne I'd say it was microwaved, my husband had spaghetti bolognese it was vile, sloppy watery and the cheese smelt off. He attempted to eat a bit but actually couldn't the older lady watched and then came over she asked if he was finshed he explained it did not taste right she said well its fresh everybody likes different things and told him to have the remainder of my lasagne if he was hungry. Once the bill came I asked the waitress to remove the spaghetti as it was not eaten because it tasted/smelt off the waitress went into.the back where an older man came to the door/ wooden window where i stood to pay with my children (I was willing to pay for everything else just not the 10.50 for spaghetti we had sent back) he instantly started to shout aggressively saying no one has ever had a problem with his food, and we are not good people trying to eat and not pay, I told him do not talk to me in such an aggressive manner in front of my children, he hit the wooden ledge that was in front of him several times and continually shouting insults and demanding we pay for the whole bill . The whole situation was horrible my children were upset and the food was not worth the money . They have no food hygiene rating on there window i don't believe they would every pass!! Absolutely horrid place don't visit it!!

Did not enjoy the food here at all. Staff said it was freshly carved lamb and freshly cooked fresh veg. The roast potatoes tasted like frozen ones and lamb tasted braised not roasted, with the slices being wafer thin. The cod and chips was nice but there was no peas, mushy peas or tar tar sauce. We couldn't even eat the desserts.

weirdest restaurant experience i’ve ever had, very cold service no smiling or customer service, food extremely bland and slightly uncooked chicken kebab with absolutely no seasoning, got watched by the owner the whole time we were eating which was uncomfortable and slightly creepy, no music and outdated place - really would not recommend

We had 2 well cooked meals from the 3 course menu on offer. Soups delicious. All freshly cooked meat and veg, plenty of it too. Finished off with homemade apple pie and custard. Quickly served at a good price. I was fully satisfied as I dislike typical seaside fast food. Note! they only take cash at this establishment.

The fish and chips were very tasty, but the chicken my daughter ordered was disgusting. The atmosphere was strange, and it was embarrassing to have the owner (I assume) and the waitress watching us while we ate. The decor was outdated, but that didn't bother us.

Very quiet as late afternoon. I had a lovely Roast beef salad as not overly hungry.Hubby had Chicken Kebab and said it was lovely. Lady had owned it for 59 years. Hats off to her

Absolutely disgusting place, we ordered the 3 course Sunday dinner. The soup was the cheapest tinned soup and the lamb dinner was worse than school dinners, tasteless and tasted like frozen dinner. The veggies were awful, soggy and tasteless. The old lady and waitress stood and stared at us the whole time were eating and the old lady asked me what was wrong with the food because I couldn't eat it. We paid £70.00 for disgusting tasteless food, the atmosphere was uncomfortable and unwelcoming. I wish I had read the reviews before going in there. They should be shut down for miss selling and ripping honest hardworking tourists of their money by over charging us for frozen dinners. Vile place 🤬😡😠

Lovely food, served quickly and food arrived fast and hot, Waitress was a nice older lady, quite friendly and helpful

Don't allow babies in this restaurant or pushchairs and not disabled friendly AVOID unless your a single or adult couple

Popped in for lunch today, really enjoyed the fish and chips and the kids enjoyed their meals. Really great value for money and good food. Yes the decor needs updating but with good food and service who cares, we will go again next time we are in Great Yarmouth

Me and my partner went in for food last night I had pizza and chips, he had lasagne and chips was all really good couldn't fault a thing. Service was really good. Couldn't be more welcoming throughout the time we was in there x

The service was okay, however unfortunately the decor was very outdated and the fish was very bland, you don't get many chips either. Also they were not taking card, only cash. We didn't find this out until we had sat down and ordered and the server had told another group once they were about to pay.

Place clean and tidy the staff very friendly and great service.

Forget the dated look. Its real home cooked food and a really good menu.

Definitely worth a visit to a family run restaurant. The food is lovely homemade and comes out hot. Decor needs up dating. And maybe not watched while you are eating but the lady is lovely.

We went to this restaurant March 2024. It is very dated but that did not bother us Our personal experience . We would never go there again. It wasn't the decor or the food . But the service . The waitress watched us the whole time we were there . It was uncomfortable and made it a very weird experience. It's not nice for someone to just stare at you the whole time you are eating. And we felt we were a nuisance. Very uncomfortable experience and we would never go there again . The omelette was very nice and the steak cooked OK. Lasagna I did not enjoy and left half of it. Frozen chips and canned food and flat coke . Staff watching and waiting for you to hurry upand finish . Even taking your drink before it was drunk. I would not recommend this restaurant. The owners obviously are not enjoying there job anymore and you feel it as soon as you walk in .

Absolutely brilliant place to eat. The people that are moaning about decor need to get a grip. Who cares if the food is banging?! Genuine family run place where they have grown old and still love producing great food for very competitive prices. Been there since 1964!!! Amazing. We always take a trip here on our visits to yarmouth and it never disappoints us. Whether it's the roast, steak, lasagne or pizzas it's always on point. If you go, I recommend trying any of the desserts as they are all homemade. The Paklava is sooo good. Portion sizes are great, you won't leave hungry that's for sure! I really don't care what you're looking at when the food is this good. Highly recommend

My food didn’t taste good. I barely ate it. Thought moussaka would be a good bet, but I think it was off, kids were happy with their chicken nuggets and lasagne though. Not particularly cheap at £40 either. Cash only (no surprise)

Lovely food, friendly Greek lady that makes a lot of the food personally. The stuffed vine leaves and chips was delicious and when finished off with homemade strawberry cheesecake - yum! I’m stuffed!

The place is very old, the tablecloths are from the 1980s, and the carpet is probably the same. The smell of old oil in the air and an old waitress with a strange sense of humor. I will never go back there again.

First things first, it was a Friday night, just after 8, there was only one guy eating on the far table, no music what so ever, the lady taking orders was wonderful great service but was a really dated restaurant. Twas to our surprise that the food was ten ten, with a fair overall rating of a 4 out of 5 it was delicious 😋 and a very polite waitress

We came for a quick meal Sunday, the food was ok, but as other reviews say the star is the Waitress, she reminds me of Carla Connor from Coronation Street. The interior is a bit Fawlty Towers but it's ok adds to the experience one you won't forget. Visit.. you have too

We have been to restaurant a few times ,always enjoyed our meals but this time ,the food wasn’t that good has before we visited ,the quality of the food wasn’t that nice and it came out very quick but it was only warm to eat ,place needs a total refit ,it’s very old and it needs updating,the chairs what you sit on are so uncomfortable, Is the past food been lovely hot and very nice and always tasted nice ,but on this visit wasn’t the same ,sadly we won’t be returning now again ,I think it’s time for lady /owner to retire she almost 80 now ,it s a very long day for her now ,sadly it’s reflecting on the running of the restaurant now ,what is so ch a shame ,before it was lovely place to eat

Very rude staff who where very willing to argue with one of our party about size portions. I asked for my steak on the mixed grill to be blue but the elderly woman waiting on us said "no, on a mixed grill all the meat is cooked for the same amount of time". When it arrived the steak, chop, liver and gammon were all extremely well done to the edge of burning. All of our fries were frozen and our mushrooms were tinned. The staff started clearing our table before we had all finished in order to make us leave sooner, it was only 8.30pm !!! The staff stood staring while the last person finished. This was by no means a cheap meal as 5 of us spent nearly £100 between us. Never ever visit this "restaurant" it is shabby, the men's toilet sink is held on by gaffer tape and the paint peeling in the restaurant. The worse restaurant I have ever visited

Went in here for lunch on my own and they said no table for one. I've never heard of it before. Terrible turning away custom. Maybe it's just me but i don't know any restaurant before who don't accommodate for 1 person.

They do a great Sunday roast special, 3 courses £14.25. Make sure you spend over £15 otherwise it's cash only.

I can't believe I've lived here all these years and not been in here! Oh it's not all posh and fancy, "new" dining, it's just exactly what you want and used to get back when the world was a more honest place. The food was cheap and absolutely gorgeous, I was quite surprised at how cheap and how absolutely gorgeous to be honest! Cost of living crisis? Go here! And the service?! The lady had been there 58 years! She was fantastic, made you feel like a local straight away, none of that fawning about stuff just a lovely warm cheeky personality really made us smile.. will be using this all the time now

Excellent food and fantastic staff

It was a very disappointing experience. The soup was thin, when we asked for some bread for the soup, we got two slices of soft white bread and being charged for 90p when the bill arrived. The roast port and roast lamb were not fresh and not hot, and the accompanied vegetables were soft and soggy. the apple pie was not fresh either, the restaurant was stuffy and the toilet was run down. they only take cash and the waitress was not friendly. My worst restaurant experience.

Really good food at a good price

I am a American and my British partner and his friends wanted to show me a awful coast restaurant. Initially when we walked into the restaurant the older lady and the waitress were talking in the language in which sounded like insults. The waitress showed us the table and one of the party asked for wine and it was denied by the old lady. Then she told him the options available. Then two of my party kept giggling in which made them mad in return made them watch us eat the entire meal. I will never go to this place even if my brit friends and partner found the whole situation hilarious. The food was awful with bad service. Awful food! Awful service! Awful people I ever met in my life! The only reason I gave one star to write this review.

Came for a quick lunch as we were very hungry, and this didn't seem that bad from the outside. Unfortunately, I was wrong - the interior is very outdated, and the atmosphere is just weird. It's a family restaurant, owned by a Cypriot lady, that obviously hasn't been renovated for many years. The lady was friendly enough, but the waitress needs to improve her customer service skills. The owner was making some remarks about the service towards the waitress in front of us, and at some point, there was a lot of shouting from the kitchen, which made us uncomfortable. The food came out quickly and it was not that bad for what it was - fried scampi, schrimps, and fish with chips. Chips were nice, but the schrimps were way overcooked.

0 stars if I could. The lady was rude and did not make us feel welcome at all. The food was full of oil and tasted bland. I am actually astonished that the place is allowed to stay open. My sister got a strong stomach pain on the way home and felt ill all day. The interior was terrible with old smelly carpets laid down and as soon as my family started speaking Polish, we were met with dirty looks. Horrible.

Nice clean relaxing place service was was great, the lady taking the orders was a nice lady. The food was 10/10.

Not the best. Very dated and old looking , worn out carpet. Ordered haddock and chips but came with no peas. Mine was OK but my wife's fish was rubbery and boney in places. Friendly enough Cypriot lady who served us though. Wouldn't go back.

The best cappuccino I’ve had ever… Anastasia has been there since 1964, yes the place is dated but the food was very reasonably priced and really quite good. Polite and good service. I had pizza and chips 9/10. The omelette looked good too. Please support the local business and not the major chains as this is their lively hoods. If you do visit and try the coffee please feel free to mention it was recommended.

THE FOOD WAS AWFUL! VERY DISAPPOINTED. Seemed like the food was off before cooking. Gammon was dry and awful. Mushrooms were nice and the tomato. Everything else I left on the plate. The lady (waitress) barely spoke… we didn’t feel welcome. She was nice enough but the experience was strange. We even got tooted at as we walked in and the bloke was warning us not to go in. We didn’t listen. Wish we did!!! We paid anyway but that’s just because we’re nice people. PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!!

Walked in before we even sat down the lady made us feel unwelcome. My children sat down and we were basically thrown menus at and received nothing but dirty looks of the owner whenever my children spoke so we walked out.

I've never in my life felt so insulted and uncomfortable as I did yesterday. Me and my husband were looking for a restaurant that had a variety of different food and this place did, so we proceed to walk in. We were greeted by an elderly lady who showed us to a table, we sat down and she laid our plates out. This is where it gets interesting! A waitress ( who we found out was her granddaughter) started talking loudly saying how they are closing at 7pm and not 9pm and she couldn't wait to go home, and carried on ... We realised we only had half hour to eat. The elderly lady asked her to get us 2 Rose' wines, and the reply from the waitress, shouting back was " what do they want " At this point, I was starting to feel uncomfortable and I told my husband I wanted to leave. So I told the elderly lady how the waitress made me feel. She couldn't be more apologetic and told the waitress that we were leaving to which my husband heard her say " so what". I believe the elderly lady is the owner and I felt very sorry for her as she's obviously losing trade because of the granddaughter. I literally cannot tell you what the food was like because we didn't stay long enough, but I do know the rough looking gobby waitress with the stupid red streak in her hair, needs customer service lessons and a bit of respect to her grandparents. They probably only have her there because no one else will. When you walk in, make sure she's not there, so you can enjoy your meal. Can't miss her, she's got a bog mouth and I've seen better heads on a bull dog.

Absolutely 1st class dined here 3 times in 7 days it was that good. Food and service superb. Highly recommend.

Having eaten here a few times now it's a great place! The food is fantastic and the staff are lovely. 2022 Update: still fantastic, the staff are lovely. I always eat here when I'm in town, the food is delicious.

Don't judge a book by its cover, doesn't look that interesting from the outside but the food makes up for it, you feel like your in a time warp with the 70's interior but look passed that and enjoy the food.

0 stars!!!!! My mum was at Great Yarmouth a day out which was very pleasant until she went to this restaurant. As soon as she went in she was rudely asked to leave as they "don't serve people unless your in a group or more than one person" No wonder the place was near enough empty at lunch time!!! Never heard of a restaurant that refuses customers for no reason!!!!!

I was out for the day and saw the menu outside and walked in. The waitress came up to me and said "nobody on their own" I was quite shocked as there was a few empty tables went somewhere else and the other restaurant was shocked.

My friends visited this restaurant with their daughter who is in a pushchair after getting up the stairs what are not friendly for pushchairs or wheelchair users they were greeted by the waitress who refused them entry just because they had a child in these days this is so unprofessional and unacceptable

Absolute Joke of a restaurant. Myself and my partner was refused entry and told No Pushchairs aloud, as its the rules. So where d'you expect me to leave my Pushchair? The restaurant was empty, so not exactly short on space. I Asked to speak to the manager on shift and was told there wasn't one, just a chef who wouldn't want to here about it either. Absolutely disgusting behaviour, so disrespectful, Shocking costumer service, There was No wheelchair access too, so I guess their not aloud either.

Me and my daughter came in today with my parents before we set off home and we had such a nice time we felt very welcomed. Staff are soo lovely and the food was great. Proper cooked meal as my dad said 😋 😁. We will definitely be back next time we visit ❤. casey said thankyou for her lollies 🍭 😀

Good banter with waitress. Very warm and inviting atmosphere Make you feel welcome. Been back twice as food is lovely and good prices would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone just coming to Yarmouth for a day trip or on holiday. We dined here on Sat 9th July for our evening meal while on a 2 day break away. Service was brilliant, friendly, efficient staff, gorgeous food and value for money :)) We will be back! Highly recommended.

Took one look at the menu and went straight in. Visited twice during ourv4 day stay. Run by a lovely lady from Cyprus. The waitress also is such a lovely polite friendly and caring lady. Who couldn't do enough for my wife who on her way here was pushed over by a nasty piece of work because she refused him money. Anyway the food is served piping hot and as previously stated the portions are superb. Cannot fault this place great value as well. Just wished I'd asked the waitress her name she deserves the utmost praise

Good honest food at a fair price with pleasant staff

This little restaurant has been our go to for the past few years,the owners are wonderful!they talk to you like family and the food Is wonderful ,especially recommend the chocolate cake for dessert

There were 7 of us to eat and 4 meals were delicious the 3 roasts however were dreadful, covered in gravy, hard white roast potatoes and inedible really The staff were amazing but would not go back

We liked the 70s look n feel and thought they being a small business would welcome tourists. Boy was I wrong, we had terrible experience with the staff being rude, told not to bring our water even before we were shown to our seats, constantly disrespectful to her staff. I was too polite to walk away and had to endure all this with my family. Food tasted like it was reheated frozen food, drinks were alright. Avoid if you are not a UK resident, they were quite clear in the way they treated other customers compared to us. Very un-welcoming, wouldn't go back.

Good restaurant which is being run by greek family with variety of dishes, but no greek meals in the menu, typical English meals . It's very old old old building , that's why I gave him 3 stars. Very clean toilets which is and advantage. Price was acceptable.
