Joyland American Diner in Great Yarmouth

Popped in this afternoon as I really fancied an ice cream sundae. The young girl who served us (glasses, auburn hair tied back in a ponytail) was amazing. So friendly and welcoming. The sundaes she made were amazing too. She was working her little socks off taking orders and bringing out food whilst others were standing round propping up the counter. I was so impressed with her attitude to work and the customers that I popped back shortly afterwards with a tip. Hopefully her boss will see this review and reward her for her service today

The food is massively expensive , for what is a bland flavourless burger , staggering price for 3 burgers & 3 drinks £62 . I understand overheads & nonone forced me to go in but ...plain and simple greed imo Tiny portions of fries & food not worth the money sadly a avoid from me . Save yourself £45 & go to the grill & grind regent road & get a foot long hotdog if just want a fill up meal . Tastier / cheaper Actually felt sick knowing I'd been robbed of £62 quid in 35 minutes for v v poor food .

Staff are slow, they have a pad and pen and you have to go up to them to get their attention and service, they look like they don't even want to be there, been going to this American diner for years sad to see it going this bad to, food tasted terrible use to be so good now it's all frozen, microwave etc , id stay clear and go to empire across the road.

We are here yesterday with our 2 young children. Food was better than average for a seaside kids area type cafe/restaurant. The general decoration and theme of the place is really cool. I’ve seen lots of comments on the staff being rude and just wanted to note that we didn’t experience any of this at all. We found them very helpful. Even with my kids wanting pancakes but instead of maple syrup as per the menu they asked for chocolate sauce and sprinkles which they done for us even putting them in separate pots so they could decorate them themselves.

Rediculas prices and not the best service waitresses looked dirty grease down there tops and food wasn’t good very small portion fir stupid price

Food was great and the service was poor. Service could be a lot better. The American theming was great. Was very American. Good and poor at the same time.

Diner has a great American theme, throughout the restaurant and on the menu. Milkshakes are great and worth the price. Probably will return when I next come to Gt Yarmouth.

The food as usual was excellent, however on this occasion the service was so poor that we ended up departing without even ordering a desert. Not what we were expecting based on previous visits paid over £55 for sub par service and the place was not even busy.

£16 for a blue cheese burger... Prices should reflect the quality and unfortunately they don't. The quality of beef can only be compared to school dinners, more flavour in a McDonald's. The blue cheese sauce too was a disappointment, it was cold and a slice of American cheese has a stronger flavour. I can however recommend the milkshakes. Food does not hold its own.

This is a must eat place when ever we come to yarmouth!!!!! Love the food, the milkshakes are amazing could just do with a bit of music or tv playing in background (not loud) just something to take edge of listening to other families ( or even my own family) but that's just a suggestion I've eaten here many times and love it !!!!!

Food was really lovely. Service was not the greatest. No second drinks offered and staff were standing around talking. Didn’t leave a tip. Didn’t get the desert menu they didn’t offer. Me and my family cut out losses. The American theme was great.

First time been in for a meal even when we come Yarmouth ever year,food was great plus got 6 complimentary passes for rides at joyland at end with made my nieces even happier 👍👍👍👍

Went as a double date, one of my friends had chicken and it was pink in the middle, which one of the staff tried to pass off as a vein in the chicken (it was not a vein) and the coleslaw looked and tasted like it had been sitting out unrefrigerated for the entire day, it smelled and tasted really bad, this was also brought to us about 10 minutes after we'd started eating. No ice in the drinks (didnt get asked), my burger was wrong (was quickly rectified though), there were 4 waiters on shift but only one was doing work and actively walking around. We waited 15 minutes for the bill once we had finished. We got the meal with the uncooked chicken refunded.

Spent £70 in here on our recent visit (2 adults, 2 children) it's gone massively down hill. We usually come here every time we come to Great Yarmouth. This will be our last time visiting this establishment. Poor quality burgers, that was over cooked and rock solid, poor service from the waiter. Cancelled the kids ice creams after we finished our food, due to waiting 30 mins, and nobody came to our table. Stood up, and went to the til and paid our bill and walked out. Will never return. Poor quality food at massively over inflated prices, with extremely poor service.

First time visiting here and won't be the last! Hawaiian burger cooked to perfection and Sunday's to die for!! Great atmosphere and cosy booths. Really lovely place. Highly recommend.

We came here over 10 years ago and had good memories of our experience, so we were excited to revisit today. Just like before the food service and atmosphere was to notch and we all enjoyed it.

Dont like the way they put chocolate sauce in all the milkshakes....i dont like choc sause

Fantastic food! A little pricey, but worth it! I particularly enjoyed the luxury thick shakes - the fact they put chocolate saubse into your drink, even if it’s not chocolate, is such a bonus! Thank you very much for the service 💖

Fantastic wee Diner. Very accommodating for families with kids menu choices and great staff. Here almost at least once every time I'm on holidays down this end.

Unfortunately this place has really gone downhill since I last visited 4 years ago. Initially they made a little more of a fuss of it being an "American Diner" with little tokens such as an American flag cocktail stick in your food and upbeat on theme music. However this time it just felt a bit like we were eating in a tin can with odd irrelevant music, a very filthy highchair for my daughter and food that was overpriced and not up to the standards I remember. I ordered the classic burger and it was so dry - both burger and bun. Everything is obviously fried so there was no option to make amendments to eggs for my toddler's breakfast so we had to settle for fried egg which I decided after tasting, I wasn't going to give her. We spent a lot of money and it really didn't feel worth it. You gain nothing from it being an American themed diner and would get better quality and more reasonably priced food from any other cafe along the strip. Waitress and host were friendly; can't fault them but maybe the place just wasn't for us after all.

Over priced , food is poor not worth the money at all!!!!! £17 for a burger which probably cost under £5 to construct. Won’t be going again OK DINER beats this place hands down!

All in all was rather good, food was lacking a bit compared to the USA style bar but was still great the best thing about this place is milkshakes hands down the best in Yarmouth

Visited on a Wednesday lunchtime, we went to Joyland for my daughter's birthday, so thought we'd try the diner. We waited at the front at the "please wait here to be seated" sign, and were not acknowledged, let alone sat, for over 10 minutes. During this time, 3 members of staff either made eye contact with us or walked past us. We would have just left, but our daughter became upset when we suggested going somewhere else. The place was not busy, so no idea why there was such a delay. Our order was taken fairly quickly once we were finally sat down (there was no apology for the delay), and food came very quickly. The drinks were lukewarm. The food was average, akin to pub food, and very similar to most of the other "something with chips" establishments on the sea front. Not great, not terrible. No one came to check on us, and no one came to take our plates, although servers seemed very attentive to the 2 tables next to us, who were already seated when we arrived. The women's toilet did not have any soap. After 15 minutes, no one had come over to take our plates or bring the bill, so my husband had to go up to the bar area, where 2 staff members were stood chatting, so he could pay. Almost £50 for 2 adults and 1 child is very steep, considering we did not have starters, desserts, sides, or alcohol. We would not bother returning, as the service, pricing, and overall experience left a bad taste in our mouth, and we left wishing we had just got some chips from elsewhere instead.

I had heard so much about the Diner, but after our visit today, I'm wondering why. I was expecting an excellent burger, but instead, received what tasted like a manufactured burger just taken out of the package in a supermarket burger bun, with a handful of mediocre fries. My partner had the hotdog, that was disappointing too, absolutely nothing like an American one. And, a hotdog with red onions!!! Utterly disappointed and way overpriced. £35.70 for a below average burger and something that was meant to resemble an American Hotdog! To say it was worth £20 would be generous! I definitely won't be recommending it.

Very much enjoyed our time here, Lovely little Diner, great menu, great food, great portion sizes, great price!!! Staff all very friendly, and clearly enjoy working here so I guess they are treated well :)

I visited this place last week, I ordered grilled chicken. The chicken is dry.

Perhaps I went in expectating an authentic experience and it was hindered by high prices and sub standard service. For 2 adults and 2 children under 8 it cost us £85 for a main and drink. Almost certain this was due to only 2 veggie kids options on the kids menu and had to buy an adult veggie meal just so they could experience a moving mountains hotdog and burger. This could easily be offered on the kids menu for cheaper, with a small portion size. Honestly felt robbed, wasnt asked at any point if meal was ok but just one those situations to learn from an never return really. Bathrooms was pure filth.

Makro food at gourmet prices. We bought all moving mountains food as a family of vegetarians who don't like mushed up bean burgers. All I can say is what came was not in the slightest American, it would of likely offended any Americans tbh. It was served in a stale bun, with a tiny dry pickle, English type salad (quartered tomato not sliced and cucumber!) and a tiny portion of curly fries for the £17 price tag. Also no American mustard on table!! 2 adults and 2 under 8s meals (all vegetarians) with drinks came to exactly £85. The good, fast service, pleasant staff, clean and nice place in good location, free rides at adjacent park per £15 spend. Chalking this one up to experience as would definitely not be going back at those prices.

Not the first time we’ve been to the diner but unfortunately it will be our last , sat outside because we had dogs , music was repetitive, load and annoying . More importantly the food was poor for the money , chicken slightly pink , and a very small portion of chips with the New York flamer . Far too expensive for what you get , no care taken on presentation of food .

Came here on Sunday got seated OK, staff members helpfull, food on the other hand was expensive and tasteless, Pancakes where microwave pank cakes which were rubbery. Stake tasted bland and burnt chips where cheap over chips which were horrible. To be honest the only good bit was the milkshakes, quite disappointing

We went here needing a table for 10 (2 families of 5 out on vacation). After being told it was an hours wait (absolutely fine, a table of 10 is a rare request) we found we had a table of 4 and a table of 6 near each other. Upon being escorted to our table i spotted meals going to and from the microwaves in the kitchen. Not a good sign. Our waitress struggled to understand our orders, which we fairly basic considering 6 of them were off of the kids menu. The portion sizes for the cost were shockingly poor and were not even enough to satisfy the kids.

Large group of 8 with no problem seating is. Fantastic service by all staff. Thank you all x

Excellent service! Asked if we could bring in a pizza for the little one as he wouldn’t eat anything on the menu and they were more than happy to let us. They were very friendly and the service was fast. Food was lovely and the portion size was great!

I'll start by saying this isn't a negative review of the restaurant as a whole. When we visited the staff were lovely, the food we ordered was decent for the price especially for the location, the theme is good. The issue is with the vegetarian options on the menu - they are not really veg as it seems several of the dishes are cooked with the meat items. For example the Veg Breakfast has items cooked in the same fryer as the meat items. In fairness, the waiter did offer this information to us without us asking, but most likely because we had stated a food allergy. If you are a strict vegetarian then do ensure you ask about the food you'll be ordering, as you will then be limited for choice on the menu. In this day and age, cooking separately should be standard practice, surely.

Popped in for a coffee and some pancakes. Lovely luxury mocha with thick cream on top and 7 pancakes with maple syrup. Very USA themed and feels like a reality American diner. Good size menu, steaks and burgers, mostly USA style Not too busy in the winter, got parked right outside the diner. Worth a visit, not badly priced. Staff were helpful.

We usually visit here when on holiday and it never fails to satisfy, staff are always very friendly and helpful and the food is always spot on, well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Great place for lunch! Loved the decor and atmosphere in here- made for a different and enjoyable lunch out for us. All the staff seemed really canny and helpful and our food and drinks didn't take long at all. We both enjoyed our cheese burgers. Lovely views from the place too of the beach and sea :) would reccomend for sure.

Food was ok but too expensive. I was put off at first by the dirty cuttlery. I think they need a new dishwasher and the only place in the UK where I've had to clean it myself before eating. I only ended up here out of curiosity as I had just visited Joyland where I used to work. I expected to experience something much better. I know that tourists get ripped off at most seaside resorts and this place was no exception. I won't be returning to Great Yarmouth any time soon. It's really not that great anymore.

Absolutely gone down the pan this place overpriced food for cheap quality and my burger wasn't even cooked properly made me ill plus use to play better music couple years back now it's garbage and one major problem to many kids working together and always laughing with each other instead being professional shocking

Family of 6 told there would be 45 minutes wait for for food .so we went in had our drinks order come with in minutes of ordering 😃before I had drunk my corffee the food was ready . Less than the 45 minutes wait 😋we'll happy good quality food excellent staff very polite. Will always hev a breakfast at the dinner before walking round gt yarmouth. Five stars 🌟 well done to all the staff 👏 👍 😀. Trevor

We visited here last year and decided to come back. It was far less busy than last time we visited which meant we were seated quickly. The atmosphere is good and is a nice place to be. It is somewhat small however this adds to its charm. The food is good, you get good portion sizes and it tastes okay. The burgers can be a little dry and underwhelming, however there is a good selection of food to choose from. Price wise it is a touch on the expensive side and for what you get you may expect a little more. The cheesy garlic bread is £7! Which is essentially a ciabatta cut in half, we found that to be a little ridiculous! The staff are fantastic and very welcoming, they are definitely a highlight of the diner.

Terrible. Hotdog canned, burger dry and tasted microwave, chilly small and tasted delicious of nothing , gammon was flavourless , mushroom overcooked outside inside raw. Staff was ok nothing special. Bathrooms dirty. It cost over £100 for 6 of us. I would not recommend to come here.

Decor and music was fun. Food was average. Dairy free shakes would be appreciated. I chose the vegan pasta, which tasted bland but was edible. The burgers looked much tastier.

Come here years ago wasn't great experience went today giving benefit of the doubt but left very disappointed again kids portion not very big and 3 out of the 4 burgers orderd were seriously over cooked and to an extent burned to a crisp and buns tasted and smelt very stale unfortunately all in all won't be returning a 3rd time Overall service spot on can't fault it Food not great I'm afraid

Today me and my boyfriend fancied some good grub and recalled our family speaking about this diner so we thought we’d check it out.. absolutely lovely service by the young blonde lady.. the burgers (Smokey Joe) and the onion rings were incredibly tasty and we can’t recommend it more. 😊

Wonderful meal, waitress lovely, food top knotch the only 2 moans, no dairy free milk drink or ice cream and not enough tables outside. Other than that, a repeatable experience oh forgot every £15 a token for joyland!!

Visited Saturday 25th Feb (yesterday)On first impressions it looked run down and could have done with being freshened up. My friend and I ordered the “Steakwich” £16.00 each with a choice of fries, so we thought it was going to be something special. Haha special it certainly was not! Three slices of the thinnest driest toasted bread (top layer shrivelled up piece of steak, full of gristle, tasted burnt but what could only be described as burnt from the food on the grill before! The steak was barely non existent with 2 tiny sliced mushrooms on the top of the steak, absolutely no seasoning and taste whatsoever. The bottom layer of the sandwich was just dry salad leaves that had seen better days, again no seasoning or effort put into any part! They think popping a little American flag in will deter customers from the bad food, well we weren’t fooled! Suffice to say they were sent back! Asked us whether we wanted any fries whilst we were waiting for our children to finish. We said yes thinking they were complimentary for the bad food, but no, they charged us £9.00 for 2 plates of fries!!! Disgusting we would never return. Only went in as the fish and chip shops we wanted to try were full otherwise we would have ate elsewhere. Avoid!!! I’d rather have had a McDonald’s!!!

Visited here on a wet Sunday in January. The staff were extremely friendly and the service spot on. We chose a variety of food from the menu and we all agreed each of our choices was delicious and well cooked. Really couldn’t find fault with anything - even the loos were spotless. Would most certainly visit again.

Visited here while on holiday in the area. Very reasonably priced and food arrived hot and tasty. We will be back next year when on holiday again

Went here today for something to eat it was very expensive for not so great food everything was from the freezer including the buns witch fell apart, the bacon had burnt black bits on from possibly an un cleaned grill same as the burger my partner had a coke float witch was completely made wrong The calamari was not very nice again frozen and tasteless The staff was very moody and didn’t seem interested in doing there job. It’s a massive shame as the building it’s self on the outside and inside is very nice and you get that American feel to it but other then that it’s not great at all I will be never visiting again as a meal at McDonald’s would have been alot nicer and a heck of a lot cheaper

Went here as when we visited Yarmouth most of it was shut, “off season” and things are closed by 3! However this place was very good, maybe a little on the pricey side, I can agree to some there, but the size of the meals makes up for that. All our meals where lovely, the staff where nice, and the facilities clean. Would recommend the milkshakes too!

visited here on our last night of a mini break to great yarmouth havnt eaten here for a few years and was very disappointed I had the chicken wedges the chicken was awful ended up eating a few wedges wished we had gone to mcdonalds would have been lot cheaper

Nice place for families with small children. Food is fairly good, maybe slightly on the expensive side. A good bonus is the free Joyland tickets for spending a certain amount of money.

2 adults and 1 child age 2. Adults both had hotdogs and the little one had chicken nuggets kids meal. 2 medium cokes and a small apple juice which came with the kids meal. Total over £30. It was nice but not that price nice....
