Very good still, even though it lost the number3 brand. Same chef, same team, just no Phil. New menus, theme nights and a great wine list. Beer/ale selection can be a little up and down, but they always have 3-4 to pick from Great beer garden too

When I visited Charlton Kings area, I chose this pub for a trial. It looked cozy with beer garden outdoor and traditional English setup indoor. 2 barmaids were good looking and kind. I ordered their only steak dish on the menu. Unfortunately the steak looked well but tasted plain and chewy… The pub chose Rump Steak as their only steak on the pub menu with charge of 20 pound which kind of reflecting the pub food level down. Charlton Kings is the most posh area in the whole Cheltenham with average 550000 pound house selling price, people here or travelers definitely can afford higher price with much better quality of steak. But when I told the barmaids about the steak too chewy, they did not respond anything. Maybe they already get used to the customers complaints about the steak but never informed head chef which was a big pity for this kind of restaurant&Pub. The waitress was very nice though.

We visited for a family birthday. Although we are local this was our first time visiting. What a treat! I opted for the salmon starter and steak main, both generous portions and the steak was cooked to perfection. We all commented sitting on the terrace in the sun was like being on holiday, what a great vibe! Keep up the good work, looking forward to our next visit.

We went here for Sunday lunch with friends and loved it. We will be back. The service and food were excellent and although not crowded the place had a good atmosphere. The menu contained a food choice to suit all dietary needs as far as we could see and I had the vegan roast that was a nut, mushroom, rice patty and it was very good, (first time for everything) the potatoes, veg and gravy where excellent and well cooked and plentiful. We will definitely be going back

My husband had pre-booked a table for the Saturday before Valentines Day. He booked here due to the outstanding reputation of this restaurant and it being owned by Phil Vickery. When we arrived, we were informed that it was no longer owned by him, which surprised us. We were shown into the back room (booked for 7pm) and were the only people in there for a short time. The service was good and the food was nice, but personally, I felt it was slightly over-priced. It wasn't very busy for a Saturday night and it lacked atmosphere somehow. The location is quite out of the way.

We had a meal at No 3 in the Merryfellow. While the food here was sensational, the service was sadly shocking. We'd booked a table for 8pm (party of 5), and finally got our food at 9.40pm. Additionally, we had to call staff over for everything, rather than them approach us and offer to help or take our order - to be seated at our table, for drinks, food and additional drinks during our hour and forty minutes wait. The restaurant wasn't full at the time. I brought it up when the plates were cleared but instead of apologizing the waiter said it is usually busy at that time and they had been trying to stagger orders for the kitchen. I would suggest if a restaurant knows it's going to be busy at a certain time and can't get staff, they shouldn't take bookings for then. If we'd wanted to eat at 9.40pm we'd have booked a table for then. Such a shame as the food was amazing but sadly in this instance the front of house really let it down.

Amazing quality of steak with a choice between chateaubriand or a tomahawk. Comes with fries and salad. Lunch at No 3 at the Merryfellow with my wife. We had a very pleasant meal. I'm sure No 3 will become busier as word gets around. We had the Salmon sharing platter and the aranchini balls. Everything, every little detail, was excellent. I loved the bread with the sharing platter in particular. It wasn't an afterthought. It was carefully chosen. My only gripe is that the afforgato desert wasn't good value. At £8 for a scoop of (very nice) vanilla ice cream and a (very nice) espresso coffee it wasn't worth it. We're looking forward to going back for a breakfast sometime soon.

Was told at the bar no beer or ale on tap not good when it’s Father’s Day and my father in law wanted beer on draught. Next I booked a vegetarian option in to be told all I would get was a plate of vegetable what century are we in 2000 most pubs offer a veggie choice on Sunday. Sorry that did it for us and lost are custom that day and found somewhere Else to eat. The only positive was it’s dog friendly.

Every single component from the three choices of meat, the perfect roast potatoes, stuffing, and at least 8 choices of veg was cooked to perfection. Factor in delicious gravy and excellent service, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Merryfellow as a top choice for Sunday Lunch in Cheltenham!

The company simply hands the keys over to what ever poor person who's next in line to spend all their money with the dream of running their own pub. No experience in the trade required. Instead of tackling the real reasons it's always empty the new people set about repositioning the stock, cutting the grass, paying for bands, changing the signs, altering the menus, introducing chalk boards with competitions and family fun days. Then come the heat, light and power costs, the brewery costs, the rent, the wastage, the staff, the marketing, the paperwork, the accounts....Not worth it unless you have the experience and resources to make the real changes that are needed to attract more than a dozen regulars who treat the place as their own front room and don't like new faces.

Beer choice is getting better and it looks nice inside. Prices also very good. Need a couple more beer choices I would say. Slightly ruined by a group of guys shouting and swearing at the football on TV, even when there were young kids around and they weren't told to drop the swearing. However, I guess there's not much the staff can do about that and it's not their fault, plus I did decide to go in there when a match was on so can't complain too much. Also there might be a lack of seating as there's now a darts room where tables used to be. If somebody is in there playing, there's not much room to sit. Overall, decent pub.

Booked a table for 2 families and mentioned that we had a dine club card, person who took the booking said he added it to our booking. When we came to pay we were told that they don’t accept these on Sundays. We told them that we mentioned this at time of booking and that at no point were we told about this exemption. So this is very disappointing. They should have honoured this particularly as we come quite regularly. The woman behind the bar was having none of it and quite stern even though this offer is advertised as 7 days availability. I believe a restaurant/pub shouldn’t collaborate with dine club cards if they don’t want to honour these to their guests. The food was nice, not particularly special but okay for the price. We are still confused as to why they sprinkle salt on the floor just to brush it up again after one of us went nearly flying coming back from the bar. Seating is quite tight and it doesn’t really invite you to stay much longer after you finish your meal. All in all I feel quite disappointed with today’s experience as I think customer service/customer care is nearly as important as the food - that’s why I have only given 3 and not 4 stars.

... and top marks all round! Our last visit had fallen short of our initial few visits and we hadn't been tempted to try again - but read that there had been some good investment in the venue so 10 of us booked for Sunday 20th and it was really good. Helpful in getting us all seated and the carvery was definitely back to its best. The option for a small (for 'small' read 'regular'!) or a large plate was new and suited our group perfectly. My beef was perfect and the ham and pork around the table got great reviews too ... and the regular size was plenty. Couldn't help wishing we humans had a spare stomach for occasions like this though ... the beef (did I mention the beef??) and cauliflower cheese were eminently worthy of a second helping but just couldn't manage it!). The restaurant also looks so much nicer since the refurb - light, airy with the bi-fold doors out to the garden - thank you.

The cafe/restaurant has a lovely menu, very nice staff and nice decor/chairs/environment. We ordered a coronation chicken sandwich and two drinks - lemon presse and fresh orange juice. The sandwich was actually a roll and the contents contained very little chicken. The menu does mention chutney and mayonnaise but chicken breast is the first ingredient mentioned. The filling was more like a pickle with tiny dots of chicken. And it was quite definitely not a sandwich. The lemon presse was a lemon juice with water on the side which would have been ok but it was £3.50 from memory. My orange juice was lovely. So very mixed and quite expensive for what it was - there's a difference between an £8 or £9 sandwich and roll. I accept cafes need to make a profit, but customers also need reasonable value for money and to be presented with something resembling what they ordered.
