Merrie England Coffee Shop in Kirklees

Unbelievably appauling. Queued for 15 minutes. A junior member of staff then took it upon herself to take around 50 people from the back of the queue and opened up the other queue side. These people were all were then served ahead of those who had already waited 15 minutes. They should have taken 25 people from the queue at the front to the new queue then the front 50 would all have been served first. fm In all waited 35 minutes. We tried addressing this with 3 different members of staff. Not one of them offered any level of satisfactory response to the complaint. We were told to find a Manager - good luck with that one! All the coffee machines were broken at once and no trays. So after an 35 minute wait , a struggle to obtain a drink we had paid for, an unsatisfactory response to a complaint and cold food I would say don’t waste your time or money. Absolute fiasco! Ikea train your staff in customer service and how to accept accountability when they make what ultimately was a huge and unacceptable mistake😡

Nothing much has changed since my last visit in 2019. Large eating area was hardly used - possibly because it was really cold in there. We were told that an engineer was promised to fix the heating in a day or so. The food was substantial but hardly inspiring. My steak pie was more mince than steak chunks. Cheap and cheerful sums it up. Coffee was ok and staff were cheerful, though cold.

Ordered a Freedom breakfast with 1 added black pudding. The plate came with one egg so overcooked that it jumped out of the egg white - the other egg was solid. Although I paid extra for black pudding this did not arrive, just an extra hash brown instead, no mention of the substitution. No member of staff came by to ask if all was OK. Compare this to a month ago at Leeds White Rose - perfectly cooked, runny yolk eggs, attentive staff and I got my black pudding.

Sat theer for ages until a collar’d this lad oo ad shift supa-viza on ‘iz tag. A sed ‘ow, av bin sateer for ages wher’s mi all day brunch? E wo well apolojetic an’ sed, sorry, al go chayse it up foyya. E cums back an’ sez it dint come fru on’t sistem. Nevamind lad, a tell’d ‘im. Anna fyoo minits layter there I am wimme scran. ‘Appy as Barry. Nowt much as chaynged int Batley spoons over’t yearz. Still full of classy peeple. Top Marx!

Family meal. More bar staff needed and some did appear somewhat stressed. I ordered the rack of ribs, they tasted lovely but were no where near hot enough. Good JD sauce. The corn on the cobs were inedible, boiled within in an inch! My husband enjoyed his beef burger, but overall, for the price of food, it’s nothing special. Most of the party were just ‘erm, it was okay’. Good price on a bottle of red wine and the food came out as we ordered, we they wanted us to pay at the bar due to party size. Main male staff member greeting as we walked in was friendly.
