Merkins Cafe and Tea Room in Wiltshire

Really busy breakfast service, had to queue for 15 mins for a table. Ordered and advised 30 minute wait for food. Drinks came out quick. Staff were friendly. The food however wasn’t great. Looked as though it had been sat under the hot plate for too long. Mushrooms were non existent and the tomato was mush. Value for Money not bad… I think they struggled with the number of customers.

We come here regularly now after discovering it last year. Food is always locally sourced, very high quality, and cooked to perfection. I regularly go for the trio of posched eggs on sourdough with avocado and bacon, and my husband goes for the Merkinator... a giant of a full English breakfast. Both delicious. There are regular specials for breakfast and lunch. My one and only gripe... i wish Eggs Benedict was on the menu... It's my favourite. However, the menu has lots of fabulous choices. The setting is lovely, very clean, and well set out. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Without a doubt, it is the best breakfast in Wiltshire for us. Just a couple of notes for any upcoming visitors. This is a dog friendly establishment, so if you are not keen on well-behaved furry friends, this may not be the place for you. You have to wait to be seated, and as this is a very popular pace, indeed, this can sometimes take a little while. Once seated, you look at the menu and then get up to join the queue as they take orders directly at the bar, not table. The toilet block is uni-sex, very well laid out and completely private. Worked well, in my opinion. Very good Merkins! Well done. We will be back again. You can count on us.

It was ok. The environment is nice. The young staff were lovely. The service was good and prompt. The price is expensive. The food was ok. The chef needs to look up the definition of ‘hash’ as it definitely wasn’t hash. It was potato plonked on top of Passata. The avocado was meagre with n the pale and uninteresting chicken. The croque monsieur was not cooked enough. The biscotti cake was dry and almost stale. As I say it was ok and expensive for what it was.

When it's busy, you know it's good! Even though it was busy, the welcome was personal and super friendly, we were told about waits in advance and we sat in the lovely garden, which had beautiful views, really nice chilled vibe, Drinks were bought out promptly, and the service was always impeccable. The wait estimate was spot on and 45 mins after ordering we were presented with our lunch. We both had the smash burger and paid to add the bacon. It was literally one of the best burgers I'd had in a long time, pink. Juicy, plentiful toppings, lovely sides, properly went down a treat. We decided to come after constantly seeing it recommended on our local spotted page and we were really glad we did. We'll be a regular from now on as I need to try that full English! 😋 highly recommended!

It was our first visit to Merkins, but we will definitely be returning! We arrived at lunch time and even though it was very busy we were quickly shown to a table. The drinks menu was good with various options of alternative milks to choose from. The menu also had lots of tasty choices and there are also daily specials. The majority of the breakfast menu is also available throughout the day, which is handy. We both chose the Cajun chicken which came with salad, couscous and was beautifully presented on a flat bread. Which we both agreed was utterly delicious! The staff were all very helpful and took time to stop for a chat, which was really nice. The tables were all cleared quickly and thoroughly cleaned between customers, which was good to see. We chose to sit inside but there is also plenty of seating outside. All with amazing views of the local countryside. Well done Merkins! It is great to find somewhere nice for breakfast or lunch and not to be completely ripped off!

Lunchtime walk to Merkins Cafe. The tartlet from the specials board was delicious. Followed by equally good coffee. A delightfull way to spend a damp lunchtime

Wish we had been here before!! The location sitting outside with the countryside around you while eating our breakfast was lovely. Place as a whole is beautiful and clean. The food was great, will definitely be back!!!

I feel the food has changed. Was so disappointed by the fact I hate black pudding and will not exchange items on the menu because “the chef said so” not impressed, surely the cost of exchange from black pudding to an egg is money saving. It doesn’t take much at all to change just 1 item. Will not return due to this being a rule here. Drinks took ages to come too. Used to like it here. This rule needs to change about an item change.

Lovely place- much bigger than we expected. First visit, with my friends child who is disabled- the staff were amazing with her. All keen to interact with her and very helpful. Food was great. Also a lovely little shop we picked up a couple of extras. Definitely be back for a milkshake soon. Thank you all

Never been before but had high expectations, from feedback from friends & family. Was not disappointed. Served by a lovely young lady, great surprise as I used to look after her years ago ! Pancakes were delicious with generous portion of bacon. Excellent americano coffee, I have personal bugbear of 3/4 filled cups or mugs. This was fully filled. Great fun experience and will definitely return

I have always been a big fan of Merkins. The staff are always very friendly and accommodating. However today I was not sure if due to cost pressures there has been a marginal change. The prices have been adjusted upwards recently which to a degree is understandable. I had the Onion Bhaji burger, which was OK. However the portion sizes of both the burger and fries and even the coleslaw seem to have been minimised, and the with price of 14.95 in line with meat options. So from a value money standpoint I am not sure this was great, hence the rating.

Visited today, as we live local we have been quiet a few times before. Today we met friends from Radstock who’s first time here. Everyone was impressed with the quality of the food. As a group of four we have tried various other farm shops throughout Bath, Radstock, Trowbridge area and this has been the best. The staff are also so friendly and efficient. The cafe/restaurant was reasonably busy with a steady turnover the whole time we were there. The food was hot, tasty and good quality, the cake selection divine. Will certainly be visiting again soon.

Fantastic service from all the staff. Holly and Abbie were super lovely and made us feel welcome and went above and beyond. The food was so fresh and delicious. I will definitely be visiting again for sure, a beautiful hidden spot.

Very much “Emperor’s New Clothes”. As in people just like it because everyone else likes it. We found it to be pretty average. First thing was the wait to be seated. Almost ten minutes stood at the door. Nobody even took the time to acknowledge that we were there. Would have taken a member of staff ten seconds to pop over and say that they would be with us shortly, but the “hooray Henry” staff were far too busy wandering around trying to be important. Seating was a reclaimed school table with both seats facing a wall. We accepted it because our previous visit has been very positive. I honestly wish we’d thanked them very much and left there and then. Too many people taking an hour to have a coffee and trying to feel like they’re part of the country set. Service was polite but slow. Food was ok, well cooked and presented, but not worth the £30+ bill for two breakfasts and two drinks. We are by absolutely no means near to the bread line or wanting for a quid or two, but that doesn’t mean we like to throw away money. I just think the whole experience was average and we won’t be hurrying back. We probably aren’t welcome after this review anyway. Shame because previous visit has been good.

Beautiful rural cafe / restaurant set on a small country lane on the outskirts of Bradford on Avon. Ample parking. Sympathetically converted farm building blended with modern characterful extension. Helpful and efficient young staff. Our breakfasts were excellent, although bagel was slightly disappointing. Very popular so very busy, this caused the place to be unpleasantly loud as the sound resonates from all the hard surfaces, some sound deadening surfaces would be beneficial. We also had a beautiful country walk directly after our breakfast. Great

Lovely setting, friendly and efficient staff. Several vegan cake options and plant milks available. Would have given 5 stars but the 'background' music is too loud. My personal preference is for no background music, partly as it affects my tinnitus, partly because I feel it's unnecessary. I suspect many customers would prefer no background music.

I love Merkins. Always serving high quality food, well staffed, rural setting with a beautifully decorated interior. Nothing is too much trouble for Holly and the rest of the team. We both tend to go for a breakfast and milkshake - such good value for money (not expensive!) and have never left hungry after a few visits. Can’t wait to come back already! JJ & Rose

I visited on Sunday and was greeted by a fabulous atmosphere and beautiful festive decor. The cafe itself has a wonderful atmosphere full of lovely staff happy to serve you and to make sure you have a wonderful experience. It was really busy! But added to the nice atmosphere- Our food and drinks came out quick and I was surprised how big the standard breakfast was. My friend ordered the pancakes which were huge and she struggled to finish them. The coffees looked amazing not that I tried one. I cant wait to visit again- Great value for money for such a lovely atmosphere and great food. Thank you everyone at Merkins

Opted for the farmers breakfast which was delicious, and you could mix and match things if you have an allergy. The only thing I’d say, is the extra sausage is a bit strange, but all in all very yummy!! Coffee was delicious and the banana milkshake is huge and very yummy. Well worth the visit!

A lovely and very popular farm cafe. Staff are all so friendly and always cheerful. The food is always amazing. Not had a bad experience yet and me and my mate Tim go pretty much every weekend. It does get busy right from opening so you have to get there early. Seating is available indoors and outside. Views across Wiltshire are good.

A great venue, overlooking farmland. A wide menu with some lovely “Specials” available. We’ve been here several times and the staff are great, very welcoming, and bend over backwards to help you and make you feel comfortable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch which was really tasty and reasonably priced. There were also plenty of vegan options (thank you). The staff were so friendly and the setting was lovely, with beautiful views. Will definitely be back!

Great Food and Fantastic Service at Reasonable Prices. I had a Farmers Breakfast (Full english) and my wife had a vegetarian Breakfast. Both options were clearly good quality fresh ingredients and portion sizes were good. Will definitely visit again.

When we arrived for breakfast on a grey Saturday morning there was already a queue but by the time we’d ordered it had grown out of the door! It’s a testament to a lovely place - both my pancakes and my wife’s muffin were excellent...

My first visit to Melkins Farm Cafe and I was extremely impressed. Had the Melkins full English breakfast at £11.50,one of the best breakfasts ever, great produce, well cooked and presented by friendly efficient staff. A must place to visit if you're in the area.

We have always enjoyed our visits to Merkins and now they have a wonderful new indoor seating area. A really lovely relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We popped up for a cup of coffee yesterday and ended up having their delicious crepes. Excellent customer service as...

I attended with my family and the lady that took our order was vey lovely. I ordered a hot chocolate which was cold and did not taste nice at all. I took it back to the member of staff who was making the hot drinks who was wearing glasses. She just basically walked away from me. I then went back up and asked if I could have a refund as I didn’t have time for another. The manager was very nice and refunded immediately. However the same member of staff that walked away from me proceeded to stand there and give me filthy looks and whisper. I found her so rude and immature and it was actually quite upsetting as I had been so polite in asking. I don’t like to single out but this was a lovely place and everything else was perfect and unfortunately we will not return because of her.

No wonder this place has 5 stars..The staff are excellent, helpful, polite and all with lovely bubbly personalities. The food was excellent and the homemade lemon and poppy seed cake a delight. Well done guys...keep up the good work..we will be back!!

This place is a bit tucked away but when you find it you’ll be glad you did. If you’re looking for a charming cafe in a country setting with friendly staff, a good menu and great food, this place has nailed it! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and the sheds are a great idea. Well worth a visit and we’ll be back soon!

Merkins came highly recommended so we stopped off for a quick sandwich lunch on our way somewhere. The breakfasts looked good but on this occasion we just wanted a quick sandwich snack. We waited 45 minutes for a freshly cut sandwich which was two slices of Hovis white bread and sadly not what we expected for £5.95 ( fresh cut bread would have been more tasty) the Americana coffee was not hot. I have to I have no complaints for my ciabatta and coffee! Realise they are very busy with COVID and shortage of staff but no excuse for the white, plastic bread. We did mention it when we paid but were disappointed by the reaction,

This place is out of the way but well worth finding, just go carefully or you'll whizz past the entrance which is like a hole in the hedge with just an unobtrusive sign announcing the presence of Merkins Farm. No reservations taken so turn up and wait to be seated, which could be in outdoor shepherd huts, outdoor wooden sheds or inside the café but wherever you are, the food is good and enjoyable and it's dog friendly as well.

We have been going to Merkins Cafe for some while now and it's always been a great place to go for food and a chat. The staff are always very friendly and make time to say hello even when they are busy. Their all day breakfasts in particular are brilliant and very reasonably priced. The setting is nice an has a very countrified feel. The only thing to remember is that they do get very busy at times and this does affect their ability to serve everyone quickly. They have coped with the Covid problem admirably and going forward this is a business that deserves to succeed.

Absolutely amazing cafe, we have visited today 1 August, the staff were so busy because of a hen party. But all staff were very efficient and were very apologetic and because we had to wait a little longer than normal they even gave us free drinks. The whole place has an extended garden area with lovely little sheds to sit in for food brilliant x

My daughter and son-in-law treated me to breakfast this morning. It started ok with a welcome while we found our cabin and ordered coffee. When my breakfast arrived (trio of poached eggs and smoked salmon) my eggs were very over cooked. I had to send it back for another try. The second plate arrived quite quickly after but this time the poached eggs were under cooked and the toast underneath soaked in water. I also had to ask for a knife and fork . I gave up at this point and after this experience won’t be returning. It’s such a shame because this place is supposed to be great. The staff are great but sadly the food let them down.

A couple colleagues and I decided to head out for breakfast to catch up after being apart due to restrictions and chose to eat at Merkins. The breakfasts were very well cooked and generous portion sizes! Sitting outside in the sun was glorious and the setting is beautiful - I will be back!

We've been going here for the last 3 years and it jut gets better. They have expanded it since Covid with some huts and its always very clean and tidy with a friendly efficient young team of staff. The food is simple but great quality, well prepared and delicious. Service can be a tad slow when they are really bust but that doesn't matter because it's worth the wait. Very dog friendly and my Collie adopted one of the team, Jess, as his favorite human there!

Visited today for first time, greated by lovely young lady. We ordered two mini breakfast and coffees. The meal was superb ,coffee was top quality.Service was a little bit slow but acceptable as they were very busy. Can't wait to go.back. A big thankyou to all the team

Just had the perfect breakfast. Sat in a shed in the shade with our baby and dog eating a smokey grilled breakfast. Every item cooked to perfection. Even do a fresh pint of juice rather than a thimble full. Beautiful venue, great food and lovely staff. Thorough recommended for families as well as anyone else.

We had a delicious brunch yesterday at Merkins. We decided to eat in one of the clean, comfortable sheds to escape the midday sun, and were still able to enjoy the beautiful view. The breakfasts are the best around, and the staff are very friendly and efficient. Can't wait to come again. Thank you!

I have been to Merkins 3 x over past couple of years, the first b4 Covid struck. Pleasant young staff, but something not working. Are there enough kitchen staff as the long (50 mins) wait for simple hot food, after a 30 min wait for the order to be taken,suggests something isnt working!! Always nice well prepared simple dishes but recently they have increased their seating capacity and now have a further 6 huts and another bigger covered area as well as the tables in the original cafe area. P.s. thought the 'salad' with omelette was from the 'garnish recipe' book!

Visited multiple times and this place is always fantastic, can’t fault anything, highly suggest trying their cheesecakes, any of them!

Cannot recommend Merkins Cafe enough. I’ve been many, many times and have never been disappointed. Most recently had the berry pancakes which were delicious. Lovely staff, great menu and fab food. It’s always busy but that just shows how popular and well loved it is!

Had a really good breakfast on a sunny Sunday. It’s a very busy cafe with a large outside seating area which was great for a sunny morning. Expect to que for 10 minutes for a table on a weekend, but worth it.

1st time ever eating here and so glad we did the staff provided excellent service. The food catered for all of our dietary requirements and was fabulous quality. Great price for the quality and quantity. Merkins absolutely deserve the queues of people waiting and the success it has. Wont be going anywhere else for a brekkie from now on

Called in on the way back from Bradford-on-Avon. I was expecting it to be fairly quiet at 9.05am however the carpark was busy and the restaurant was filling up - a good sign. We were not disappointed. Wow, such lovely staff who were very COVID aware and the food was great. My daughter had a kids breakfast even though she is an adult. She was pleased as there was ample on her plate to fill her up. The sausages were amazing apparently. I had a bacon sandwich and the bacon was also really tasty. Only very minor criticism (sorry) was that I thought the bread may have been better - but it def did not spoil my appetite. My daughter also had a vanilla milkshake which tasted fantastic and was huge - next time I am getting one too !! I also ordered a sausage sandwich to takeaway and that was ready when we finished eating. Highly recommend and shall be visiting on a regular basis now - thank you Merkins..

This was our second visit to Merkins in two weeks. The breakfasts are lovely, staff are friendly and in a perfect setting with countryside views. No wonder people come off of the beaten track to find this place. It’s worth the drive.

Visited with my family. We were prepared for a wait given the discounts on offer through the eat out scheme. But the wait wasn't that long and the food served was worth the wait. We were sat outside as there was nothing available inside. Not a problem as the sun was shining. Food arrived in a timely manner despite being told there was an approximate wait of 45 mins. I also have to say they have some of the best safety measures in place around the risk of COVID-19. Staff all in PPE and meticulously cleaning everything. It was reassuring to see having seen some other venues not bothering with even the basics. The omlett I ordered was very tasty and rammed with chunks of ham. My kids had meals ordered from the childs section of the menu and they enjoyed this. We also order three lots of cheesecake and some milkshakes. The bad bit. Wasps. They are everywhere outside and I mean everywhere. We couldn't eat one of the cheesecakes as they were severed minutes before the meals came out. So they sat there whilst we ate our lunch and the wasps just swarmed the cakes. To the point it was just unbearable. My daughter's milkshake which she had drink a little under a third of had two wasps floating in it so she left it and then her cake was covered in wasps. We sadly had to leave due to the amount of wasps flying around us and landing on our food and arms. Others sat outside also appeared to have issues with wasps too. I fully understand the cafe can't help this however I couldn't see any wasp traps up. Even a handful of citronella candles would have helped. If it wasn't for the wasps it would have been a 5 star review. Will happily return but only if able to sit inside.

Tucked away on a side road near Bradford on Avon, Merkin's Farm Cafe is a wonderful discovery. Fresh, beatifully prepared cafe food in generous helpings, served by attractive and attentive staff. They've even managed Covid without fuss. It is the best establishment of its kind I've ever visited - and believe me - I've been to a few!

First visit for me for a while, kids are regulars!Was very pleasantly surprised.It was very busy due to the Eat out scheme, but the wait for a table was only a few minutes, and the wonderful staff were working incredibly hard, and very efficiently to get people seated and fed as quickly as they could. The food itself was also really good. We all chose a Full breakfast, and the meat was great quality, and all the produce fresh and delicious. Portions were generous too.Milkshakes went on forever...We all left very full, and very content.Will deffo be back again soon!

Having visited this gem of a cafe many times, we were delighted to be allowed to return to again enjoy the quality and flavoursome food which is invariably served here. The experience was a little different due to the new gov regs but no less enjoyable. The staff all embraced the necessary safeguards putting us at ease straight away. The food and service were impeccable as always. A welcome return to a first class establishment.

We just happened to see this as we were driving to Atworth from Leeds and decided to call in for a well deserved treat.We ordered the cream tea for two, with one normal tea and one mint tea. When the scones came they looked beautiful and tasted amazing, there were two each, believe it or not, a fruit one and a plain one, both were very tasty.It was a lovely sunny day and a real pleasure to be sitting outside looking out over the fields, the service was good and the place was quite busy. A really good find and we will definitely be calling in next time we are passing by.

Greeted by smiling pleasant friendly staff and shown to a table that had been cleaned thoroughly and given wipe clean menus . Social distancing clearly being observed even though it was busy . Food was worth waiting for but the Merkinator breakfast beat my husband ! Love this place x

food is amazing! The staff are super friendly and helpful which always makes atmosphere great. We even got to sit outside, finishing our meal before is started raining. Food is at a great price and is served quickly and is easy to change if you dont like something. Will definitely be coming back!

What a find this place was. Campsite cafe / restaurant during the summer I believe but open all year round for great grub. Makes me want to pitch up a tent! Cool vintage vibe. Overlooking fields and sweet shop attached to restaurant too. Great seating outside. Tasty food. Big portions. Good coffee, cake and shakes and even homemade treats for dogs

Finally made it today! Nearly missed it as no signs from the lane directing you to the entrance though!! Just by luck saw lots of cars parked up (through the bare hedgerows)and assumed we had the correct place! At 11:30am we ordered a cream tea, a kids main hot meal & a breakfast! Very busy but food arrived promptly. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Lovely countryside spot and definitely worth a visit. Food plentiful and great prices. Cosy atmosphere with a roaring log fire.

Very nice lunch, have eaten here a few time and always lovely. My only comment is after putting logs on the fire, handling money, then without washing there hands they get ice from the freezer with there hands not tongs. Very unhygienic

I’ve been recommended this place several times over the past few years but visited for the first time today with my family. My children had scones and a merkins hot chocolate each and my husband and I had a merkins breakfast. The hot chocolates were worthy of a photo, they were spectacular. Enormous cups filled with delicious hot chocolate and topped with a mountain of squirty cream, covered in chocolate buttons, chocolate straws and a giant marshmallow. My girls were in heaven. Their only disappointment was it was too big to finish. Our cooked breakfasts were equally lovely. Everything was really tasty, well cooked and didn’t taste greasy or leave a pile of grease on the plate. The sausages were particularly delicious and not too peppery or herby, just right. We came away feeling stuffed full and talking about when we will return again. The staff seemed friendly and everything was clean despite being really busy and full of people. We were lucky to get a table. There were lots of people queuing to come in as we left. Only gripe is dogs are allowed inside and while I love dogs I don’t want one sitting around my feet while I eat a breakfast. The dog near us was very well behaved but there wasn’t really enough room for it to be lying on the floor between the tables and its owners were giving it food to eat off the floor which was a bit gross. Lovely decor and stunning scenery. Would recommend and will definitely be returning.

Having regularly visited this cafe since it first open I have watched it get bigger and better! The food is brilliant, staff lovely & they are so welcoming to dogs as well.

I love coming her for my weekly coffee indulgence. It’s a wonderful spot and friendly staff. Just like a second home.

I absolutely love this little gem. From the cosy vintage interior, to the always bright & friendly staff, I can't speak highly enough of Merkins. The food is great breakfast, lunch or just tea & cake it's always AMAZING. I always leave feeling a little bit loved so thanku for that x

It was four years since we came here and was as good as we remembered. Lovely outside seating. Lots of inside seating too. The breakfast was superb. Staff very friendly and helpful. The sausages and bacon were top standard. Won’t leave it so long next time.

We continue to be regular customers of Merkins and it’s our go to cafe for a good fry up! All the ingredients are locally sourced where possible and you can really taste that. Food is not overly greasy and is always served quickly and with a smile. Also cafe is dog friendly which is great as it means our pooch doesn’t have to be left at home! Keep up the good work Team Merkins!

We went for lunch and were delighted with the food, the service and with the atmosphere. There were four adults and two young children and we could not have beeen treated any better. Happy days!

Called in for a bite of lunch and the ham and mustard sandwich and chicken panini were delicious. Service was great and I can honestly say the nicest lunch I’ve had since arriving in UK over a month ago. Well done guys

We found this place a little disappointing as it seemed unfinished in our mind, The food looked okay, but it was too busy to try and find a seat and, although we dont mind kids, there where rather a lot.

Unique little place with converted railway carriage and an old 50s 60s theme. Food is high quality and the service is efficient and friendly. Great range of cakes and breakfasts.parking on site ,nice little country lane walk to reach the cafe

A perfect place to enjoy a flat white and a slice of something naughty and nice. I like to arrange my cycle ride to fit in a short visit. Lovely people in a quiet and often sunny location.

Went as group of 3 for lunch on Saturday based on the 5 star reviews. Staff were nice, location was nice and cafe design was well thought out. Disappointed in the food though - hence the 3 stars! Hamburger (Chicken) was meant to come with relish and salad and chips as advertised but came with mayonnaise and chips - no salad and no relish and quite tough chicken a bit overcooked. Waitress only came at the end to get plates so my comment was received graciously - but too late as the meal was finished, as had been hungry. Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon (as advertised), came with runny scrambled eggs on a piece of GF toast (nothing else) and salmon flakes mixed in with no smoked salmon for £8!. Sandwich was better with ham & mustard and salad was as expected. Also had a reasonable milkshake and a bottle of juice. So I give them one star for the food - which brings it down to overall 3 stars - sorry I know the cafe values its TA rating, but really, attention to detail is everything in the food trade and £30+ for lunch deserves better if they want to keep their good rating..

I went for lunch with my daughter, and her baby. The menu had a good choice of food and drinks as well as amazing cakes (which we took home as too full to eat there). Tables inside and out with beautiful views across the Wiltshire countryside. We will be making regular visits!

Very friendly Staff, food was very good and views excellent. Would have preferred an Instant Coffee option.

I visited Merkin's Farm as a party of 7 and we were accommodated quickly with no problems. The menu offers the sort of food and drink that you'd expect from a café, but this place certainly stands out from the crowd. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and didn't take long to arrive. I'd highly recommend the milkshake, best I've had in a long time! Will definitely be making repeat visits in the near future.
