Meriden Spice Indian Restaurant in Solihull

Arrived for our first visit to this restaurant a few minutes before our 8:00 p m booking, but the table was not ready as the diners from an earlier booking were lingering; we were about to discover why. Invited by the proprietor to take a drink in the lounge of the pub below and 20 minutes later the gentleman came down to collect us and our drinks. For starters we shared a tandoori combination and for mains we chose a couple of the signature dishes supplemented with a dhal, portion of basmati rice and a nan. Not only would I would describe the taste of the food as outstanding, but the quantity of food was also ample. We really took our time to enjoy all the flavours. It is quite a small restaurant having perhaps 35 or so covers. It seemed to us that there were many regular diners as there was a fair deal of friendly conversation with the staff, but this did not delay or spoil the service in any way. All in all we had a splendid meal and a super evening.

Probably the best jalfrezi I have ever had! And I have a jalfrezi at least once a week. Service was awesome and the family owned business guys were lovely. A great experience. (Don’t order a taxi; use Uber!) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Went here for the first time last night and was very impressed. Their menu has so many different choices and food was superb. This is the best Indian restaurant I’ve been to and I’m just sad that it’s all the way in Meriden and not closer to me. Staff were very friendly.

An amazing family owned Bangladeshi restaurant above the Queens Head in Meriden. We have been eating here for a number of years, and are always amazed at the quality of the food, the friendliness of the staff, and the excellent service. If you enjoy lamb, then try the traditional Bangladeshi Handi dish. The slow cooked lamb melts in the mouth, and the sauce is rich and medium spiced- Great with the incredible light and fluffy Nan bread. The pub bar below supply the restaurant with a great selection of drinks, including real ales.

We had another lovely night at Meriden Spice. We were celebrating a 70th birthday. Great service. Staff couldn’t be nicer and they always want to make sure you’ve had a good time. Food can be tailored to your tastes. Drinks are from the Queens Head pub downstairs, which has a good range of beers and other drinks. We visit regularly and have recommended to friends and family who also love it.

Meriden Spice is an amazing family run little restaurant. The food is amazing, their South Indian Chilli Masala is one of the best curries I’ve even had, spicy but delicious. Elvis, Sarg, Junior and the team are so wonderful, they make you feel like part of their family.

What a wonderful find. Very friendly staff, wonderful food and good atmosphere. The other diners were obviously regular customers and friendly which made the whole experience enjoyable. Highly recommend.

Dined here with a friend of mine and it was an incredible experience, lovely service, waiters showed great care towards us both. I started with the King Prawn Butterfly and it was delicious and a great way to begin my dining experience at Meriden Spice. I then had the Chicken Badami as a main with a garlic cheesy Naan, it was unreal! I enjoyed every bite until I was full, I’ve then taken it home and cannot wait to finish it off. Great price, unreal food and a great time there, certainly will be going again in the next few weeks!! I can’t compare this to any Indian I’ve had before, top class, couldn’t recommend anymore!!

Amazing food, full of flavours, excellent customer service, not bad for the price. Ended up going two night in a row, as my sister and I were visiting the Birmingham NEC stitch show, our guest house was amazing the Indian restaurant was recommended by the guest house. We have decided that when we visit the NEC next year we will be having our evening meal here.

On Saturday we decided to go for a curry so we popped along to the Meriden Spice for a meal as we had heard it was getting good reviews. We both had excellent meals Chicken Pathia and Chicken Achari with a Keema Naan and Garlic Rice. It was all very tasty with the correct amount of spice and heat. The restaurant is on the first floor of the Queen's Head Pub so you could have beers from the bar delivered to the table. Great meal out with a pint of draft Bass. Will visit again very soon.

Absolutely outstanding service and food. We were in the area for business, we came last year. So booked again this year and remembered how good it was, so we came again two nights in a row, if we were her longer we would come every night. Thank you. See you again next year. Meriden Spice is NOT easy to find, though well worth investigating. Located directly behind The Queen's Head, Old Road, Meriden, it is accessible via fairly steep winding steps, situated directly on the left side of the pub. It is an Indian/south Asian takeaway/delivery and dine in restaurant and we are regular (delivery) customers. Often a weekly 'no cooking night' treat the meals delivered are normally very tasty and 'moreish' regularly scoring 4/5 and sometimes 5/5. Not the most recent takeaway, which all agreed was a 2 - 3 out of 5. Bland, with very watery curry so we were pretty disappointed to be honest. Hopefully then, a blip re Meriden Spice. (Will advise after next meal)... *UPDATE* Tried Meriden Spice again and am pleased to say food was very nice with prompt and friendly delivery!

I love this place! I live in the US but make it a point to visit Meriden Spice whenever we visit for the CKCSC Show. Far better than what we get in the states, best I’ve had since my last visit to Chennai. You will notice there isn’t much food in the pictures…it’s because we ate it all! Staff is next to none and it has a homey local feel with friendly patrons as well.

This place is a genuine delight. The food is superb, the place is wonderfully quirky, and the service was second to none. The staff there made a huge effort to make my dad feel special (so much so that he felt a bit like a mafia boss). The curry is spectacular, but the best part is the naan. I think that you can judge a place on its naan and they serve some of the best naan that I've ever had. I couldn't recommend this place more. Superb!

We had another incredible dining experience at Meriden Spice last night! Located above a quaint pub, the unique setting adds to the charm of this gem. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. As for the food, it was an absolute delight! My friend and had the Handi Chicken and Lamb Karma, both bursting with rich flavors and cooked to perfection. Our friends opted for the Mix Grill, which was a carnivore's dream come true, featuring an array of succulent meats grilled to perfection. Every bite was a culinary adventure, transporting us to the vibrant streets of India. The spices were expertly balanced, and each dish was a testament to the chef's skill and passion for authentic Indian cuisine. Overall, our annual visit to Meriden Spice never disappoints. I ordered a lamb biryani online for collection. Picked it up and got home to find they've given me a chicken biriyani. They had closed by the time i got home so couldn't contact or go back. Slightly annoyed as i was craving lamb. Chicken biryani is decent. Staff are friendly.

I got a takeaway from there last Saturday night and it was honestly the best Indian food I've ever tasted. I would highly recommend the Lamb Chat Masala, which is under starters on the menu - such a rich and beautiful flavour! I also shared a Chicken Handi and a Lamb Pathia with my husband and both dishes were just beautiful. The peshwari naan I had was much nicer than I've had before, it's not too sweet and has a very nice delicate flavour that doesn't take away from the flavour of the dishes. Another thing to comment on was the staff, who were very warm and friendly. They were very busy but so friendly, very happy to answer questions and to recommend dishes.

Always great food, whenever we fancy a treat this is our go to Indian.

First visit to this restaurant and wow didn’t disappoint. Staff were very attentive, super friendly and made everyone feel welcome and relaxed. They were really good with the families with young children and there was a lovely atmosphere- rare in most restaurants these days. Food was simply delicious - the best Indian I have had in a very long time - they definitely take a lot of time and effort in producing first class food - nothing processed just good tasty food. Anyone looking for somewhere new - give them a go - you won’t be disappointed.

Really friendly staff and decent food at a reasonable price. They also tried hard with our diets. It is situated above The Queen's Head Pub and the drinks come from there. There are signs but they are pretty invisible in the dark. The gents really need a bit of TLC but are ok.

Had an excellent Birthday meal with family at Meriden Spice last night. The food was lovely, but the staff are so friendly, you are one of the family. Always go out of their way for you. So lucky to have this fantastic restaurant in our village. Really enjoyed it last night and the leftovers tonight. Masala mach biran, rajeswari and a peshwari naan - beautiful.

Fabulous lamb bhuna and quick service. Ordered 18.45 and got a phone call just 35 minutes later to say it was on the way. Not from this area but will definitely revisit when im down here next time

Disgusting service quiet night asked for table for 1 started with starter then told all of a sudden move over there got a table of 4 coming in how rude got up and walked out they're just thinking of a quick fast buck hd plenty of money in my wallet and would have tipped gennerioously they are moving up to the old tea rooms I have been told hope they improve was a chief for over 30 years I lived in village for over 14 years and still do

This is an honest review first time I've ordered as I'm not from the area. I ordered a jalfrezi which was way too hot. More like a vindaloo. The tikka chicken was cooked too fast so quite tuff. I ordered a nann bread that was under cooked on one side and burnt black on the other. How this was achieved is remarkable. I made the order around 2200 and they do close a 2300 so probably wanted start shutting down. They did give me 2 poppadoms however the onion salad I paid for was basically chopped onions in a bag. You did remind me to leave feedback so there you go. Kind regards

I’ve been looking for a good Indian around Coventry for a while now. This has to be the best curry I’ve ever had. I had a korma and it was amazing! Not watery nor flavourless. I had also ordered a cheese and garlic naan and its was filled with plenty cheese and garlic. It was perfect. They also gave me a free poppadom and yogurt dip which I never ordered. Also shout out the delivery guy he was so lovely. It was delivered 15 minutes early! But overall the best curry I have tasted! 100% recommend :)

We have just had yet another wonderful evening at our local Indian restaurant in Meriden, The Meriden Spice, situated above the best pub in the village, the Queens Head. We have been eating there for the past 10 years, the food is fantastic, the ambience is welcoming and genuine. There is nowhere better to enjoy genuine Indian food of extremely high-quality for miles around, truly, this establishment is the jewel in Meriden’s crown. The beauty of supporting the Indian restaurant is that the alcohol is provided by the pub, so we are patronising two well established important businesses in one visit. I recommend without hesitation.

Had a take away. Butter chicken and chicken tikka Rogan. Both were tasteless and watery, and the chicken very bitty, looked like scrag ends. Will not be ordering again.

My son ordered or food around 7:15 pm He was told around 8:15 for delivery. That later he got a message that they was running late , so it would be 8:45 .But at 9pm we tried to phone them to see if the curry was on its way But no answer , To cut it short we got it at 9:25 Mine was cold and my son was swimming in oil that had leaked in the bag all over the food . My wife was ok but warm We normally eat all the food from there and it's been good in the past. But this time , over half went in the bin. Very disappointed We should have had a refund.

Excellent food, great service! We ordered from chefs specials and it was completely worth it. Our 11yo also loved their butter chicken!

A little difficult to find, but so well worth the try- just behind the pub!! Excellent friendly service, really lovely food, waiters fully knowledgeable about ingredients on the menu- we have found an absolute gem here- prices amazingly good value- we will be back. Its difficult to say one thing in particular that stands out about this place, as its such a great restaurant. We come here for food for a meal with my wife or family get together. The family who run it are great, they attend to evey detail and cant do enough for you. If you want a quiet romantic meal, or to book for a family get together this place can cater for it. The foods fabulous and great value. I Cannot recommend highley enough

In Meriden for 3 nights and this was so good we ate here on 2 of them. Hubby doesn't really like curry and the 2nd time qas his suggestion. Food was unbelievably good, would 100% recommend this place

Ordered a chicken tikka madras today and was looking forward to something with a bit of heat and a kick but what was delivered was definitely not a madras it was the brightest red and really sweet so won't be ordering again, Very disappointed.

My husband & I thought we would treat ourselves to an Indian takeaway whilst staying at Somers Wood in Meriden. Meriden Spice had been recommended. I ordered over the phone and spoke with a very friendly man. Ordered our food and was told 1hr 10mins for delivery. Food arrived on time and as promised at the gate. The food was absolutely delicious, every dish was warm, and very flavoursome. The lamb pathia was stunning and the meat was lovely and tender, and the butter chicken was also very nice. Would most definitely recommend. Will certainly be eating from here again. Thank-you

Why have we not found this place before?! Best curry we have had in a long time. we had lamb and chicken dishes and the meat was so tender and delicious in both. Really flavoursome. Staff were lovely and welcoming. The drinks are from the pub downstairs so a nice pint of beer too. Definitely will return.

Our go to takeaway if we're looking for an Indian. We've been using them for years and enjoy it every time. Order on their own website rather than one of the apps for a good discount.
