Evening meal treats once a month, it is expensive here, Gone are the days of a fish n chip supper for under £5. For two large dinners, it will cost £20+ Standard is excellent and freshly cooked, so be prepared to wait for it. Queues can be long, so go at a time it will be quieter, like a later tea time, 7 pm instead of 6 pm. The staff are very friendly

always lovely food and the staff are so nice and friendly. we visit regular and can phone up in advance and order, very quick and friendly service, their curry sauce is amazing !

Good food, a bit on the pricey side. Unfortunately they only take cash, this resulted in having to walk down the road to find the cash machine in the nearby co-op It was hard to understand the staff due to wearing face masks, being hearing impaired this was a bit problematic for me.

After being recommended the Mere Fish n Chips has really big chip portions, we have found ordering a large portion of chips which is an extra £1 to the original price, is well worth it. The batter on the fish is an odd colour, very orange, but it tastes lovely and is extremely crispy. The Cod is a good size. Portion wise, we are looking at moving back to yesteryear, when fish n chips came out of old newspapers. It's a quick service, everything is cooked to order. My partner has said, parking is close by, like outside or just off the Castle St car park. There is a lane that runs down the back of it and comes out by the Church and the same street the fish n chip shop is in, opposite the library and museum area. There is no Chinese cuisine here, the most you're likely to get is a spring roll, not recommended as they are disappointing in size.

Great fresh fish - good value OAP size portion if ordered too. Consistently good with great customer service. Can preorder by phone to speed up collection if wish.

Brilliant chip shop, very friendly staff and brilliant food. the fish is amazing - no bones and cooked all the way through. chips are great, fluffy, and flavourful. would recommend for anyone

I love Fish and Chips travelling many times to Harry Ramsdens in Yorkshire, but this little shops tops them all for value for money, I try and visit weekly to enjoy the crisp lovely taste even though slightly greasy. the staff are pleasant and full of energy, try it!!

Wouldn't go back here, the fish n chips I ordered were disgusting the fish I ordered on unwrapping was just completely saturated in grease the fish had zero taste to it at all, the chips were not cooked enough and tasted funny. I have tried many fish n chip outlets throughout the UK and this has to be the worst I have come across.

Nice banger and chips well cooked and hot. Would go again, they generally cook it fairly fresh as it’s in a very small town/ village, so unless you smell the place on the wind you would not see it unless you know it’s there. Seem clean and tide. Well done.

We stopped off here to get some much needed sustenance on a Guildford - Okehampton - Guildford 1-day round-trip. The shop itself is clean and the staff friendly. Be aware, they only take cash, no credit or debit cards. We ordered Fish (cod) and Chips and Spring Roll and Chips. The cost was £15 which we thought was a little pricey. The order took perhaps 5 minutes to prepare, which was fine. The chips were OK. Typical fish shop chips really, slightly soggy, actually, just how I like them and the standard portion was plenty. The Cod on the other hand was a different affair. The batter was thick and tough but held a lot of oil and the fish was over done, dry and tasteless. The Spring Roll however sunk to an even lower level. On biting in to it a brown oozing mush leaked out. It looked foul and tasted worse! We ate the chips and dumped the rest. Frankly, if I were you, I'd avoid it and find somewhere else.

I have tried all the fish and chip shops within 20miles of Warminister and although not traditionally cooked in beef dripping ( which i hate ) the taste is authentic. Fish well cooked with crispy batter and no uncooked batter. Chips crispy outside with soft interior from excellent tasting potatoes. Always willing to please also.

Terrible! I went in to get some food for the family we never really have fish and chips so we thought this would be a treat. After collecting some food and getting home I found that the order wasn't complete! I clearly stated 2x cod and chips with a kids meal I saw the lady write what I said. They wanted to then charge me 8 pound + for a bit of fish with chips. I said out of inconvenience I just want a bit of fish and they couldn't even do that even though it was their fault. I won't be going back even tho I live locally.

Have just eaten the best golden scrummy fish & chips. The curry sauce was also delicious. Will be returning. Worth every penny. (Cash only)

The fish was not very good but the chips were edible just about. The savloy was enjoyed by my 5 year old

We stumbled upon this fish and chip shop thanks to the sign in the square. We were pleased to find this very good chippy as it saved us cooking dinner whilst in the area! Not sure if it’s all the time but it was cash only on our visit and I had fortunately had some cash (I don’t usually!).

We popped in for our evening dinner in the knowledge we always had good fish and chips but unfortunately my fish was dry, my wife’s was very good.

Stopped on our way back from Gatwick Airport I’m our way back to Devon. Just off the 303. Delicious food, chips crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. Best chips we have had in a while. Chicken nuggets also lush. We had children’s portion which were huge! Good value for money and highly recommended.

I have been twice in the last week and it has been great both times. Had cod the first time and haddock the second.

Always busy due to excellent quality, freshness and exceptionally pleasant service. Parking is somewhat limited and a short walk may be necessary but well worth it. The meals are beautifully wrapped and bagged in heat retaining bags. Scrupuilsely clean.

This is my favourite fish and chip shop on the planet.The batter on the sea fresh fish is delicate and crispy and the chips really taste of potato. The team are very friendly and charming and let me put my own salt and vinegar on. Keep the vinegar to a minimum to keep everything as crispy and tasty as possible.

This fish & Chip shop has been very good for us more than once. After travelling home from London (visiting family) we drop down off the 303 into Mere...collect our supper, fish or chicken with chips...Both Very enjoyable...

Fish and chips are all to often in the UK poor compared to other countries we have had them from! This chippy is on the whole ogood, the oil is changed regularly I would assume as the chips are good, the fish taste fresh with good crispy batter. Try it and you will be surprised!

We recently moved to the area and tried out the local fish and chip shop. Having been use to a fairly moderate fish and chip shop from our old town we were very pleasantly surprised to discover that what we were served was of a very high standard and all freshly cooked. The service is also of a very high standard and it has now become a regular Friday stop of point for our evening meal.

Really nice fish and chip shop. The fish is all cooked to order so don't be worried if there seems to be nothing for sale. Portions are pretty big. My husband and I have a small fish each and a small chips between us and that is loads. Caution - they usually close for a couple of weeks at Chinese New Year so don't go then.

Very disappointing batter soggy, fish dry and overdone. After taking home to eat paper from fish soaked in grease . It was the worst fish and chips takeaway l have ever had.

Beautifully large fresh pieces of fish, crispy batter and more chips than Giant Haystacks could eat. Well worth the money.

We have had several meals from the fish and chip shop. It is all cooked fresh with generous portions of chips. The chicken breast is delicious and there are lots of items to choose from beside fish as well as vegetarian options.There is no where to eat inside but the square has seats.

We were passing through Mere on our way back from holiday.The fish here is freshly cooked but we thought there was too much batter, it was very thick. One of had Plaice and Chips and the other Haddock and Chips.The service was friendly and prices are about average. This is a take away fish and chip shop and there is nowhere in the shop to sit down and eat, which was a disappointment. Also they do not accept debit or credit cards, it is cash only. All round very average

Fantastic fish and chips in fact I would go so far as to say they do the best fish and chips I've ever had.I also love there veggie burgers and veggie spring rolls. Really friendly service and great value for money.

Been going here for a few years, always a friendly service with a smile. Kids love the kids box meals. Veggie burger is a bit basic but is still okay. Chips are always freshly cooked and portions are generous. Writing this review has made me hungry.

I have been buying fish and chips here for over seven years, never had anything but good food and the owners and staff are so cheery and friendly. My favourite is their haddock and chips, fresh and delicious. I have also had their pensioners portions when they have supplied our local bowls club events for up to sixty people. They manage this very well. Good value, tasty fresh food and good service. Try it if you haven't yet.

Good cod, tasty and served quickly at lunchtime. We did not want to stop at A303 services and Mere looked like a good place to stop. Lovely houses and shops and a variety of eating places. Fish good value for money.

I have just moved to Mere and have already tried this fish and chip shop twice. Excellent food freshly cooked, friendly service, very generous portions. I'm very pleased to live so near.

Very good chippy. Chinese staff who are really helpful and know their job. Difficult to add more as previous words cover it! If you are in Mere don't miss using them.

Traditional fish and chips at its best, we had a few different meals for several people and all were good, Personaly I recommend the Cod, it was lovely

Lovely fish and chips freshly cooked. Not greasy and the OAP portions are ideal and good value for money. Probably the worst thing is the massive portion of chips, can easily feed 2-3 people! Lovely polite friendly staff. Ideal to peel off the A303 when travelling down to the West Country or come and look around the lovely town of Mere and enjoy a great supper or lunch. No facilities to eat in.

This is a place to get really good fish and chips. Always freshly cooked, very reasonable prices and plenty of side orders.We have never been disappointed by the staff all who are friendly and the lovely fresh food.Great place keep the standards up, has a five star for food hygiene.

Went here for a takeaway as we were fed up of fancy hotel food. Under £4. For pensioners fish and chips and portions were big enough for us and well cooked

The food here is excellent, and the staff very welcoming. Their fish is especially fresh and well cooked in a light batter. For lovers of peas, try the pea fritters.

People in this shop is so warm and friendly. The place is so tidy and clean. Price is reasonable to pay for especially their fish and chips! Hot food in winter!

If your really really hungry go here , if your not I would really try your best to avoid. The chips are soggy and greasy I haven't been brave enough to try anything else from there .

This is our local 'chippy' and I'm very glad it is. I can't really comment on a lot of the food but the Cod and Chips are excellent. The food is all cooked to order so there is a little wait but I'd rather that than be served food that's been sat under a heat lamp. Service is always with a smile and prices are very reasonable.

The food served here is excellent in every way, but the waiting time to be served is far too long, particularly for A303 travellers who stop for a break, but could have been 40/50 miles further along the road.

We thought we would try the fish and chip shop in Mere, a small village well away from the seaside. Wow! The cod and chips were superb, the cod was moist and tasty with crisp batter and the chips as nice as you get anywhere. The service in this family shop was quick, polite and friendly, with your order carried around the counter to you and a cheery "enjoy your meal". Well done.

We probably just came at the wrong time, it was just before closing. It was all just a little too over cooked and a bit too greasy. But the staff were lovely and friendly and stayed open 5mins late so we could get our food.

If you want the absolute best Fish and Chips, served with a smile and at the right price then you can do no better than stopping in Mere. The family run business carries a 5 Star rating for Hygiene etc and it is easy to see why. Food is always hot and you are always told to 'enjoy' as your order is passed to you. Reliable says it all!

We have had take away from here on two occasions, both times the fish was cooked fresh and was tasty and the chips were nice and not greasy! The chip shop is very clean and well presented and the food is served quickly. The owners are also pleasant and the chip shop is well signposted in the middle of Mere

If I am in Mere around lunch time I sometimes pop in for a sausage and chips! I have never been dissapointed with their chips. They are always fresh and crisp and the 'Banger' is spot on! It's been there for a long time so they must be doing something right so call in if you are passing.

I am from South Africa and visit Mere at least five times a year, our visits would not be without the Mere Fish & Chips, excellent value and delicious Fish.

So many chip shops serve horrible soggy greasy chips but not the one in Mere. the staff are efficient and friendly and the chips are really good. Highly recommended.

Great meal - in fact the chips lasted until lunchtime the following day, and cold chips have to be pretty good to be edible!

It is not very oftern that I find the fish has its skin on, but my Cod was still wearing its skin and I did think the fish batter was over done, dark and crispy. The flakes of fish and the chips were very nice.

very consistent Fish and Chip takeaway, Chinese-run. Their Senior Citizen Cod and Chips at £3.60 is absolutely top value and quality. Always cheerful and very clean. Sadly they close their doors at 9.30 in the evening, which is a bit early.

Great friendly family with equally great fish and chips to match! From what I gathered the chips are hand cut on site and double fried which explains its crispiness. The batter on the fish is light and fish moist when fried. Generous portions! A must try when passing through. They work really hard and I think are open all year round except Christmas Day and Sundays or when their equipment breaks down!MUST TRY!
