Meraz Cafe in Tower Hamlets

This was recommended by Rick Steeve's travel guide. Rick rarely disappoints but this place was a real letdown. Service not great and food not great either. Chicken mosalla was dry and sauce boring. A good Indian sauce should be complex and wonderful. Samosas were tiny. The one good thing was the chutney was delicious. Even though every other restaurant in London that we visited willingly gave us free tap water, the server here claimed that they did not have tap water. Really? What are they using back in the kitchen? You can bet that they are not using bottled water for all of their cooking. So your choice is to go thirsty or pay for bottled water, $3.75. This ploy is obviously just an effort to increase their revenue stream. Maybe they don't realize that water should be a human right, not just for those that pay. I am 67, took my niece on a trip to London, my treat, she is 34. The server here did not make eye contact with me, only my niece. Then when he brought the check, he didn't put it in the middle or give it to me, he gave it to my niece as if I were some elderly dependent and there was no doubt that she would be paying. Very odd. Or ageist?

We had the veggie mixed starter for 2, prawn bhuna, lamb shashlik, chana rice and tandoori roti. All delicious as always, accompanied by friendly and welcoming staff.

Chose this place as it was 8th in Time Out best curries in London and reviews on here were very good. Disappointed. Couldn't decide between chick pea curry or vegetable so decided to order both as smaller dishes (still 4.95 and 6.45). The vegetable curry was one potato chunk, one carrot chunk and then onions. Very poor for the price. The chickpeas were again, tiny portion sloshing around in loads of oil. Really small portions and a real rip-off. Positives were the naan bread was nice. That was it. Would not go back.

Delicious and authentic Bangladesh cuisine with three-dimensional flavours. Our favourite dishes are the ones with meat on the bone - lovely texture and taste.

My favourite place for a curry in the area. Absolutely delicious chicken achari. the staff are super lovely and always make you feel welcome. Recommend to everyone. I’ll be back soon!

Meraz is the best curry you'll get in London (even uk?). Been coming here over 15 years and it is always delicious. Skip the places along the main stretch of brick lane and head here. It may not look fancy but it is 100% quality.

Seems cheap but it’s really extortionate when you consider the abysmally small portions. To be fair, the curry was nice, but only 6 small chicken chunks. The worst of it though was the “starter for 4” - they have 4 small style samosas (the ones you can buy as frozen at about 50 for £5) and 4 seekh kebabs… for an eye watering £18! I’ve attached a photo of what you get (4 of each the kebab and samosa). The service was good but the insulting price for the starter and tiny portions lets this place down drastically

Our family of 5 had amazingly delicious and aromatic curries, biryani, tandoori and naan breads. My husband regularly travels to India for business, and he was hugely impressed with the quality and authenticity of the food served here. The service was also excellent and the owner is super friendly!

We’ve traveled often and widely through the Indian Subcontinent and (unlike most Brick Lane restaurants now) Meraz is the real deal. Authentic and very tasty, it could more than hold its own in Dacca, Delhi or Chennai. Also very reasonably priced. Bravissimi!

Small and hidden away from the Main Street but you would be missing out. They don’t have touts trying to draw you in. Wonderful, fresh flavours. The Karahi Ghosht was just like back home. Will be visiting again!

Sami fue súper amigable cuando fui solo, se tomó el tiempo para explicarme la diferencia entre paneer y ponir y me dio té gratis, sin ningún motivo. El pollo tandoori era increíble. Los platos de verduras estaban llenos de un sabor sutil. Como me gustó tanto, lo recomendé para un almuerzo de bienvenida a un colega visitante de Baroda. I wandered by myself into this restaurant during a two day trip to London. The food was amazing and there were a lot of vegetarian options to choose from. The owner is a really nice person and we had a very interesting about life etc. :-)

We have lived in East London for 10 years and Meraz has become our favourite neighbourhood restaurant. It can always be relied on for delicious, authentic food at a reasonable price. Friendly staff and great service from a team who are clearly deeply passionate about food. A must visit for locals, tourists and anyone else visiting the Brick Lane area. You won’t find better dishes than their versions of classics like dal, chicken tikka and lamb chops alongside curries, biryanis and breads. Everyone we have taken to this restaurant ends up returning time and time again!

Meraz is our favourite restaurant to visit. It is laid back, friendly, and the food is exquisite. We hope to continue visiting for many years to come.

This really is a special place. Small menu with delicious and unusual dishes. Make sure you try some of the brief list of starters. Lovely friendly staff who will answer all your questions with care. Bring your own booze (off license south on Brick Lane). Not many tables, so best to book. Did I mention that it's also extremely good value?

Whenever I come to London I stop through here; it is part of my ritual. Meraz Café feels like home; the owner is here all the time and greets everyone like family. The food is delicious, and they don’t harass you into eating in the restaurant like all the others do on Brick Lane. Super authentic; lovely. Eat here!

Great food - this is by far the best brick lane curry house, and I wouldn't recommend any others before this one. The food is obviously fresh, well-cooked to order, and delicious. The service is attentive and friendly. The only down side for us is the decor - we sometimes get a takeaway because we don't want to sit in a brightly lit hall with music videos demanding our attention. The food offer is great here and the service good. If you want a quick(ish) meal in a cafe style envronemtn then this is for you. If you want to chill, get the take-away option.

It’s well worth seeking out this small café style Indian restaurant literally 30 seconds off Brick Lane down a side street. There is no hustle here just good food and a pleasant experience. The staff are friendly, and there is a BYO policy. We had a number of dishes that I would recommend – nans, tandoori lamb chops, chicken curries – nice sauce. Good prices, I’d go for the full experience the portions are medium so starters, nan, rice each and curries is what I’d do. Top notch place.

Have just found this little Gem of a place, just of Brick Lane. The food is unbelievable good. If you visit London a great place to grab a meal. Bring your own alcohol.

Este es el artículo genuino; un restaurante que ha estado allí durante 45 años, dirigido por una familia comprometida con el área, con sabores auténticos, complejos e interesantes que salen de la cocina. Puede ser impredecible en Brick Lane, pero claramente no aquí. Gracias, realmente lo disfruté!

J'ai suivi un avis qui disait de demander "mild" pour que ça ne soit pas trop pimenté: que ce voyageur en soit remercié, je me suis régalée. Yo estaba en el partido de los 6 mencionados en la reseña adjunta. Solo para aclarar, la factura fue de solo 127, pero el cargo por servicio no estaba incluido, así que pagamos 140. He estado en muchos restaurantes indios a lo largo de los años, y generalmente los platos que pido son similares a los que he probado en otros restaurantes. Aquí todo fue un poco diferente, pero de una buena manera. Todo parecía realmente "hecho en casa". ¡Vendré aquí otra vez! :)

Éramos un grupo de 6 amigos que venían a cenar. Pedimos algo de comida para recomendar y nos dieron una selección de entrantes y platos principales. La comida era deliciosa, variada y había mucho para compartir. El precio era razonable en 140 para 6 personas, considerando que ni siquiera podíamos terminar toda la comida. El único inconveniente es que no se puede pedir agua del grifo para la mesa, sino que hay que comprar una embotellada. También tenga en cuenta que no tienen una licencia para servir alcohol, pero puede traer su propia botella de alcohol del exterior.

Had dinner here last night and was so impressed by the food and amazing service. We ordered so much food we thought we would be leaving with a doggie bag but managed to finished it all off. So glad I’ve discovered this restaurant ❤️
