Popped in for coffee and cheese scone. Wished we hadn't bothered. Coffee barely lukewarm and scone was dry, tasteless and had little discernable cheese content. One teeny, tiny portion of butter supplied . Pricey and not worth it. Wouldn't recommend and wouldn't return.

We came for Breakfast. My partner had beans on toast and fresh mushrooms which was lovely. My sandwich came out wrong which they replaced. However half my sausage tasted sour and burnt but never ate it. I didn’t feel it enough to complain as my partner food was lovely and the staff were nice and very busy so hence only a 3 this time but other food looked lovely so would give another go

Me and my partner came here for lunch, we had a panini and a toastie. Whilst I was half way through, I found a large black hair that had been melted into the cheese. I flagged this to the waitress in which she replied that she would take the panini away, no apology was given. When getting the bill, we were charged the full price. I asked for it to be taken off. The manager said he couldn’t take it off but would take £5 off the bill. Disgusting. God knows what I’d ate in the panini beforehand. The toilet was also disgusting and had an overflowing waste bin, obviously not being checked very often by the staff. Overall, very poor and desperately needs to improve their hygiene standards!!!!

We were here in the morning Saturday 11th May. The coffee was good. My partner is Melvin, so we had a photo too. However, I have been trying to contact Melvyn ever since. I lost my purse somewhere between the jewellery stall and the car park. I wondered if I left it at the cafe - we were sitting at one of the outside tables. I have phoned every day. I even got the police in Alnwick to phone yesterday. Is the phone out of order, or do they never answer? I have stopped the cards in my purse. There was hardly any cash in it. It is just a drag ordering a new driving licence and bus pass. Also, the photos were very special. I presume the purse wasn't left at the cafe, as my address is on my driving licence. However, just in case, my phone numbers are 01983 472104 or 07707 393228. It would be good to have confirmation that it has not been found - or better still, that it has. We left Alnwick straight from the cafe and, touring round, didn't get home until yesterday. We live on the Isle of Wight.

I saw online they do an eggs Benedict, with a twist so I had to try. The food took a while to arrive but I was a little disappointed by the size of the portion. Melvyns is everything you want for a delicious lunch with good quality, locally sourced, ingredients. The best cheese savoury sandwich I've ever had (in a warm baguette) with home made coleslaw and fresh salad. Plenty for the kids to choose from too. My little girl is dairy free and there were a few options for her to choose from which was lovely. The chef even made her a special sundae for dessert with dairy free wafers. The service was great, three lovely girls serving who were all very attentive. Although it was raining we sat in at an outside table to take in the scenery of the market square which is beautiful and perfect for people watching over a latte and a slice of cake. Thank you Melvyns, we will certainly be back :) P.s. please start selling your coleslaw by the tub, it is unreal.

Absolutely no gluten free options - could not find a single lunch option without gluten. No salads or jacket potatoes. All the bread gluten containing and we were willing to even have soup alone but gluten in the stock. Don’t see how you can run an eating establishment in this day and age without having at least 1 option for people intolerant of gluten. 50m around the corner a delightful cafe with loads of options.

Very weary after a visit to the Castle and town I was looking for a decent pot of tea and cake. I was recommended to try Melyn's as my first choice was about to close. It was a very wise move! Having chosen an outside table - just as the rain started - I moved inside to a window seat and was served promptly with a refreshing cuppa plus a large and delicious piece of cake. Nice outdoor seating area. I particularly recommend the burger, very good quality beef and decent chips, with a very nice side salad and dressing. They also do local Alnwick beers. My only complaint is that it's so popular that sometimes people sit around waiting for a table and make it really obvious, which can be a bit off-putting. But that's no reflection on the cafe and certainly doesn't prevent us going. If you can't get a table and want to wait, just be a bit discrete about it :)

A real cafe from yesteryear. Home cooked food, good service, quality products and really competent staff. No fancy decor or other trappings which results in a great range (including alcohol) all at sensible prices.I had their cullin skink which was superb. Loads of haddock, potato & leeks made it a great choice.Wife & daughter had a scone each and although my daughter felt the scone had been heated up in a microwave as it was a bite stodgy', she did enjoy it.Viewing some of the other meals as they were leaving the kitchen, I feel certain we will be stopping off here in future trips North/South.Without doubt a recommended cafe.

We visited Melvyn’s Cafe in Alnwick this morning for our post hallows eve brekkie and the staff and food were absolutely fantastic! We brought our two kids who amused themselves with a blindfold game of guess the object. The guy behind the counter (who I could tell loved Halloween just as much as us!) got really involved and gave us spooky objects for the kids. I even got my own witches hat to take away! I was very impressed and happy to give Melvyn’s and staff a five star rating. Great place that really welcomes families! Keep up the good work! :)

We tried the Cullen Skink smoked haddock, leek and potato soup and it was delicious. Hearty and filling and very savoury. There's a pretty good menu of light meals, breakfasts, jackets, paninis, and a great choice of cakes, as well as a Specials board and afternoon tea options, and the coffee was spot-on, strong and rich. We'll definitely go there again. Recommended.

Sat outside cafe in the lovely market square watching the world go by. Really friendly staff, the girl said that she would bring the coffee out for me. I like it here.

Had a great lunch here. The cafe is only small but they also have some outdoor tables. The steak and ale pie with chips proved to be an excellent choice. The staff are friendly and very helpful.

Stop of for breakfast one morning and decided to give this place a try. Ordered a full English and hubby ordered the double breakfast both come with unlimited tea or coffee. Did take long to be served and the girls seemed friendly. Breakfast arrived and have to say it was lovely, don’t expect a fancy fancy breakfast but this was exactly what it was a good cooked English breakfast. Sausages were particularly nice. Place is a bit tired looking but that wouldn’t put me off. The menu seems basic but it’s a cafe and it is what it is. Would recommend this place and will go back if 8m ever in Alnwick again. A good outside seating area too for dogs .

I dropped in to this delightful small cafe on the market square in Alnwick while my laundry was running. Scones, pastries and coffee were quite good. Staff was pleasant and informative. Outside seating, weather permitting is a plus.

As always the food was amazing and the portions very generous. A lovely warm welcome and Sarah went above and beyond when one of our party decided after our meals were brought out that she would like some bread and butter with her meal. Sarah sorted it out without any fuss.

We stopped by chance at The Percy Arms for a drink and ended up eating an amazing meal-Wednesday afternoon and very quiet but the food was delicious and the service excellent. The soup was very tasty and the steak cooked to perfection - we will return!

I’m so sad to see this lovely place closed. It had great staff and atmosphere and a fantastically good smoked haddock chowder. I wish its people all the best and I thank them for all the great visits we’ve had here. I really hope that there might be a replacement cafe of such quality. We’ll watch with interest.

Our introduction to this country pub was to a spacious, comfortable, immaculately clean bedroom, with stunning views of the fells. Next dinner and cooking of Michelin quality. A highlight was the scallop with belly pork, a brilliant dish. Next morning breakfast, again flawless in every respect from the service to the produce. Any prospective dining pub owner/chef should come here to see how it's done.

My partner & I came here on Sunday for a spot of lunch we both had Fish & Chips ( I had salad with mine instead of chips) I have to say the fish was amazing I would say 100 times better than you would get at a fish shop. The batter was so light & crispy and the fish tasted so good. The staff made us feel so welcome happy smiling faces and we did not have to wait long before our food came I would whole heartily recommend plants plus for lunch
