Mel's in Rossendale

I love Christmas dinner. The trimmings and the memories of growing up with the tradition. I have had a few Christmas dinners in the area and this was the best. They use real turkey, not the processed slices but the real bird. Moist with all the trimmings. The trifle and the mince pie with cream also went down very well. So sorry they do not serve it all year or as a special some times. .Price was great .

If you are not family here you soon will be. The minute you walk in the door a voice will either greet you or shout I'll be right there. Even other customers offer you a paper or explain that you order at the till and they will cook the food freshly and bring it to you. This is a local café that is very well frequented and does a steady take out trade. I have even seen the staff deliver food to near by places. I like egg and chips. The eggs are fresh but it would be an injustice to ignore the home made pie and specials. I really enjoy the steak and mushroom pie. I must add that they make their own dessert and the crumble is one of my favorites. Prices are very fair but you can't put a price on the friendly atmosphere and helpful staff that make this little place a winner. Such an unexpected gem in a small town.

To confess I had 2 xmas dinners here over the span of a week. The first one was so enjoyable that I went back for another. The turkey was plentiful and it was real turkey, not that turkey roll that I saw in other restaurants. The veg was flavorful; parsnips were very good. Potatoes cooked 2 ways and the usual toad in a hole and stuffing. There was also a choice of having 1,2,or 3 courses. Price was very fair considering all the work involved. Service was great in a place that is so friendly. In a week I had 4 Christmas dinners at different places: I love the British traditional dinner,but,this was by far the best one. May be they would consider cooking a Sunday dinner on the special menu.

The atmosphere at mels is like a cafe. Called in the other day for a breakfast and did I enjoy it the service was very good and the meal was excellent highly recommended if your ever in town this is the place to eat

We met for breakfast and the service was great would go again we had a full English breakfast was lovely staff very attentive

2nd time here for breakfast. Food is excellent and great value for money. All the food tastes fresh and all local papers available to read.

Went this morning and couldn't be happier with the food we got and the staff were lovely and bubbly couldn't ask for any more

Having just moved offices from Nelson to Haslingden, my colleague and I were looking for somewhere to have breakfast when I am visiting this office.Someone had recommended Mel's so we thought why not give it a try and so glad that we did, Mel herself was lovely and gregarious she served up 1 large and 1 small breakfast which were cooked to order which didn't mean a long wait and the food was great. we will definitely be visiting Mel's again and taking advantage of using her rear entrance again.

Hoy en día, visitando Haslingden buscamos la ciudad decente, a un precio razonable. Que nos dijeran que esperar "a ver si podemos satisfacer", tuvimos un cambio rápido del corazón y de la izquierda para buscar un sitio más apropiado. De haber preguntado a alguien por una recomendación, la señora sugirió en Mels Manchester. Encontramos el café, nos recibió un chico muy amable, y nos dieron un menú bastante completo. Elegí pollo y champiñones tarta, patatas fritas, guisantes y salsa, mi esposa optando por simples huevos y patatas fritas. La comida era muy buena, caliente, sabroso y sirve rápidamente. Lo que realmente nos impresionó fue la actitud de los jóvenes corriendo el café tenía a sus mayores de la clientela - eran encantadores! Obviamente no tenía objeción alguna a personas que vienen para un "brew", eran felices para pedir taxis, y en general eran simplemente genial. Los precios eran muy razonables, así que en general podemos recomendar plenamente como el lugar de Mels para un bocado para comer en Haslingden!

Very reasonably priced café food. Very taste hotpot and soup. Some other dishes are home made. It seems to have a large local following. Service friendly. Food choices typical for a café. Prices are very reasonable. Take out menu available.

Nice relaxed atmosphere, reasonably priced food and good portions , Mel and Michelle make you feel so welcome and is a favourite for their regulars.

Agree previous reviews about the breakfasts. They seem to be part cooked and then microwaved up. Ok for the price but nothing special. But at least you get a hello and goodbye -which is more than you can say for many establishments in the Rossendale Valley. Having lived in the Valley for more than 30 years, pleasant service is not a high spot.

They are lovely so it's a shame that the breakfasts are so bad, my partner who is a man of few words actually said you can do more damage with their bacon than a brick which is a good analogy. With so many other places in town offering a much better breakfast they need to up their game sorry

We eat here at least once a week. Food is freshly prepared, appetising and great value for money. Tables are always spotlessly clean. Customer service is second to none! We are always made to feel welcome and our food preferences remembered the next time. I strongly recommend Mel's Cafe.

Friendly staff and a fantastic breakfast! Can't fault anything! Would go again definitely!!! My daughter loved her mini breakfast too! ☕️

Homemade meat pie is fantastic and also buffet for parties is worth every penny! Mel has done catering a few times for my private parties! Will recommend

Brilliant food, nice and clean, friendly staff. made to feel lake part of the family. Good prices you really can not complain.

I have been to Mel's cafe many times and not been let down. All staff are friendly and serve the best food... Sausage egg and mushroom muffin is a must have! Mel will cater for smaller children who are picky eaters. Can not fault this famly run cafe!!!Definately my favourite cafe around here :)

Okay sized breakfast reasonable prices but we ordered a large breakfast and owner asked if he'd like everything including the black pudding as is advertised, he said yes I want everything that comes with the large breakfast. When it came was missing the black pudding, owner had totally gone and didn't return until we were walking out of the door. Coffee and tea were not the best and the toast was cheap bread but all edible.
