Really great lunch at extremely good prices. Homemade food and very friendly staff. The best steak and kidney pie I have had in years. Everything we had was excellent quality and well presented.

We prefer to support independent cafes so chose Melanie's. The sandwiches were ok, nothing special, seeded bread used not brown as ordered, fillings far from generous. The waitress was pleasant and prompt but we had to ask for cutlery for the side salad and only one napkin supplied. A member of staff tried to persuade us to have cake or pudding which was not appropriate as we wanted the bill, there is a strange quite negative attitude towards customers who don't comply! The menu is very old fashioned, the decor is tired and the place is cluttered.

What an absolute gem of an eatery! I cannot think of anywhere that still serves coffee in a cafetiere - let alone filled with really good quality coffee. Lovely teacups and saucers (totally love this!) I had welsh rarebit and my daughter went for a jacket spud - but the menu was much more extensive than that! The service and atmosphere - super. I could not recommend it highly enough.

Dropped in just after 3 pm on Saturday 13th August 2023. Confirmed still serving Lunches. Ordered drinks service notably slow. Drinks served and having read the menu my wife politely asked if the Roast Beef was from a Roast Joint or if it was pressed beef. The waitress went and asked the Owner Melanie who came to our table and announced in a loud haughty voice "A lady asked last week if the Beef on her Sandwich was Roast Beef. I'll tell you exactly what I said to her, The only Beef we serve in here comes from the side of a Cow". She then walked away. We ordered Two Roast Beef Dinners and whilst we waited it was noticiable that the young female waitress were standing around doing nothing despite that fact that a number of tables had used crockery and plates on them. Other tables were in need of relaying. Melanie spoke sharply to one young waitress who seemed to be in a daze, doing nothing other than staring pointlessly into space. The Plastic Table Cloths would be better placed in a dustbin. Our lunches arrived piping hot after a wait of some 30 minutes plus. The plates were piping hot! The vegetables had clearly been cooked from frozen as were the four very tiny/small Roast Potatoes which were dry inside. Thank goodness for the gravy which was used to soften and mositen them. The meat was in fact roast and was the saving grace of our meals. Mustard was by request and in a small satchet. Two ladies on the table behind us had ordered sandwiches before we had entred the premises. Suffice it to say in keeping with the poor staff attitude and lack of traing these were not served until sometime after we had started our meal. Melanie blamed one of the young waitresses for not handing the order to the chef etc..So much promise but spoilt by poor customer service and Melanie's rude and defensive attitude to a simple customer enquiry.

After walking around Tewkesbury, just wanted somewhere to sit down and have a cup of tea and coffee and a slice of cake. This fitted the bill exactly. Nice friendly staff who meet you and greet you and show you where to sit and they come over and take your order and serve you and you pay after you have eaten. Great pot of tea with extra "topping up" water. Lovely caramel slices and my partners coffee was spot on

We stopped in for a very late lunch and we’re so glad we waited. Simple sandwiches, tea and last but no means least toasted brioche tea bread. All prepared beautifully and with excellent service. Why would anyone go to the Costa opposite when they could come to Melanie’s? We’ll come back to sample some more delicious food and cakes but also to enjoy the company of the staff.

A day out in Tewkesbury, stopped for a late lunch at Melanie’s, checked they were still serving, which they confirmed. We both had chicken balti. My friend requested no naan as it wasn’t gluten free, which was not a problem for her at all. We ordered coffee after the meal, when it arrived we were told we had five minutes to drink up as they were closing, coffee was hot, as it should be, so couldn’t gulp it down. When we paid we were charged 30 pence extra for the milk, which we thought was very strange! We have never been charged extra for milk in any other restaurant/cafe. Bear in mind that as previously mentioned my friend requested no naan, but was offered a reduction in price. We would not have expected that, but it has to work both ways. We obviously overstayed our welcome, and the previously pleasant staff suddenly turned rude! I didn’t dare ask to go to the ladies☹️ There are other places to dine in in Tewkesbury, we won’t be going back.

A quaint coffee shop, with its quaintness personified by dirty crockery and cutlery, and an unusually large population of flies. The tea was not well strained and the accompanying milk was served partially in my wife's lap. The coffee was fine. The rhubarb and strawberry lattice pie was served on a piping hot plate though itself was cold making the ice-cream largely redundant. At exit I also managed to pick up the bill for somebody else's latte and pancake, and the person operating the till couldn't work out how to do a refund. There are lots of better choices in the high street.

I visited Tewkesbury today and there’s a cafe called melanie’s cafe on the high street. I only had a jacket potato (as very filling, fresh salad) but I went in to ask if anything was gluten free first.. I was amazed when the owner said a list of things like carrot cake, shortbread, lemon drizzle, scones! We had a chat with the owner she was well aware about cross contamination too. The cakes looked lovely. Cosey atmosphere with open fire too

Customer service!! I think you need to look the definition of this very important phrase. I can not remember the exact number of staff, I think five behind the counter, but we dealt with three different members of staff to attempt to get our order correct at the table. And for all the staff to stand and talk about what we had ordered as though we were asking them for their next unborn child. And them still get it wrong. And all it was was 3 cokes 2 black coffees and a small amount of cold water to water down one of the coffees. We had milk, 2 espressos, 2 teapots of cold water and 3 cokes put on the table! Even after our food order was checked. We should have know at this point in time it wasn't the place to stay and eat. But we gave them the benefit of the doubt. Gosh was we wrong. 3 'soups' and sandwiches and a turkey dinner. Nothing much. But over 30 minutes wait. With no other tables to serve. When it arrived we were so disappointed. We will start with the turkey dinner. Nothing special and home cooked here as advertised. You can find nicer sliced meats in tesco. Tinned carrots. Frozen everything else, potatoes, green beans etc. Gravy was so thin almost dirty dish water. Now the soup. Chilli beef and tomato soup. More like a tin of chopped tomatoes with a spoonful of last night's chilli thrown in. And the broccoli and Stilton soup would be amazing if you are on a serious calorie deficiency diet you can definitely loose weight with hot water with a sprinkle of broccoli flowers in it and the sight and I mean slight essence of Stilton. Not once did anyone ask if our food was OK. The staff were all still very audible about our order. Even once finished eating what we could manage to endure everything was left on our table. Even as we were leaving no thank you, no goodbye, no acknowledgement at all. What a huge waste of £60 for such poor standards of a place.

Auntie Jean and I had an action packed day planned and as sustenance was required we arranged our itinerary to include a return visit to Melanie's for lunch. As we forgot Auntie Jean's blue badge we found a 1hr parking spot near the cafe, We got a table in the window in what was a packed cafe, the 3 waitresses were kept very busy. I was intrigued to see a party of 5 gents having a cup of coffee and slices of victoria sponge together - kind of says it all about Melanie's appeal over the many other options. We both had scrambled egg on toast - I'm not sure if there wasn't a smidge of nutmeg added - it was certainly a tasty morsel, although at £16 for the two of us with coffee and lemonade to drink I think we'll probably opt for one of the homemade casseroles next time, we were keeping it light as Mum & Dad had fish on the menu later that evening. Service was prompt and every possible preference was checked with us. We will certainly be returning again, always a delight to visit.

So... we're in Tewkesbury not Mayfair. This a wonderful little cafe that suits the town and probably has for more years than you'd care to think about. If you want slick sanitised restaurants... you're in the wrong town. What I got here was a nice greeting and enquiry as to whether I wanted a menu. A recent reviewer criticised this question but my take is that there's an awful lot of people who come into this sort of place knowing they want a bowl of soup or a sandwich so don't need a menu. I took the menu... reasonable choice at reasonable price. I went for the beef stew with crusty bread. EXCELLENT... full of flavour, good sized bowl. Offered a spoon and, later, more bread. These guys know their customer base. If you want a gourmet menu Tewkesbury is not for you... if you are looking for good wholesome food and amenable service then you can do far worse than wander into Melanie's. Like Arnie... I'll be back

Stopped here for lunch. Ordered our drinks which took over 30 min to arrive. The waitress then took our order for lunch. While we accept that food is prepared fresh, how much time does it take to prepare toasted sandwiches? They took for ever to arrive, then only two of three arrived. it seems they couldn't do three at the same time. The third did arrive shortly after the other two. We had ordered cheese and onion but there was so much raw and very strong onion in them and then also in the salad which accompanied them that they were only just edible. Very disappointing in all. Plenty of other cafes in Tewkesbury and we will look for another next time

Oh dear. Melanie's was always my first choice to eat when visiting Tewkesbury and I looked forward to going there. So in I popped today for a coffee and a scone. The feeling of anticipation quickly evaporated! I was surprised initially to find it a tad quiet. Granted, it was a Monday lunchtime a few weeks away from Christmas but only 2 other tables were occupied. Anyway I chose my table and began taking my coat off and settling down. I didn't notice the waitress behind me. She'd muttered something that could have been "hello" but nothing else and I honestly hadn't realised she was addressing me or that anyone was even there. When I turned and saw her I smiled and apologised but she scarcely made eye contact and there was no welcoming smile. In fact she appeared sulky. Not a good start. Anyway I ordered my scone and coffee and although pleasant I have to say it was disappointing. There was only one very small scone and the jam wasn't anything like the lovely homemade jam I'd had here before. The coffee was nice but wasn't offered with a choice of cream or hot milk. It was served with a small jug of cold milk. Hardly anyone else came in while I was there and all I can say is it's a shame to see how Melanie's is not the place it once was and I will be loathe to visit again any time soon.

If your looking for somewhere to eat in Tewkesbury there is lots of choice. Just don't go here...

We stopped in here for lunch while visiting Tewkesbury as it looked to be popular. We found a table easy enough. The young waitress wasn't very welcoming but was pleasant wnough, a smile goes a long way and costs nothing. Tea and lunch was freshy prepared and as nice. The decor is a little tired, and could do with a freshen up. It seems popular with the locals. The access step does have a ramp for wheelchairs so the tea shop is quite accessible.

I ordered tea and a meal. The tea was fine but the meal did not arrive. In a way I was relieved because what I saw other people eating did not look exciting. The response to my order being ignored did not encourage me to stay and wait even longer, so really I have no opinion on the quality of the food, only the dire service.

We stay at Tewkesbury every time we're en route to the south coast. We decided to try Melanie's, the sign saying 'freshly baked scones ' tempted us inside. We sat on the two seat table to the left of the fireplace, a polite young girl bought the menu to us, I noticed my clean cup on the table had dried coffee on the saucer, I then looked at the low glass coffee table to the side of me, this was covered in smeared grease/ grime. The cushion on the seat adjacent to the coffee table had a brown stain on it. Sadly at this point we decided to leave without trying any food.

We had a cream tea here, it was good, perfect scones and decent dollops of jam and cream. They also serve roasts and a lot of other good meals.

We thought we would stop here for a drink and cake and I wish we hadn't! Staff were so slow, we were ignored twice and people that arrived after us were served before us, we ordered tea/coffee and cheese scone, when the scone arrived it was a plain/sweet scone. Knowing how slow the staff were I couldn't be bothered to say! We wouldn't return here and I wouldn't recommend it either. I wish we had gone to costa across the road now!

Went here late afternoon (gone 2.30) and aske if they were still serving lunch, the answer was yes. We had the chicken and leek pie served with new potatoes and 4 veg, it was beautiful, hot and tasty and very reasonably priced. Friendly service. Would visit again if we were In the area.

We've been regulars here for years, but the service seems to be getting slower all the time. Only one person actually cooking today and four or five young girls apparently trying to avoid doing anything at all? 40 minutes wait for my bacon sandwich was really not acceptable. And a further 10 minutes wait until my friend's breakfast was delivered. And no apology. Our tea was stone cold by the time any of the food arrived. There were only three other tables occupied (and they had already been served) at the time. Also, the front door doesn't close automatically, so if you're sitting near it you'll be getting up and down every five minutes to shut it and stop the draughts. Both issues would be such simple things to remedy to make life much more pleasant for their customers. Disappointed.

Ate here had a very good beef sandwich and a cheese scone washed down with a good cup of tea. Also hot water was supplied at no extra charge, as had happened at other places I have reviewed. Friendly staff.

Four of us called in for a light Saturday lunch. The choice of food was very adequate, and our order was taken and delivered quickly by pleasant staff. BUT - the sofas and table nearest the door were occupied by a couple with four or five very young dogs, some of which ran around from time to time, so the two humans had to yell at them to "stop it". Everyone else sat as far away as possible. This is just not on. Apart from some people not liking dogs slobbering around their feet, it is thoroughly bad hygiene. Dogs of that age are untrained in matters of where and when to have a pee, if not worse. If Melanie took a firmer line over this, most of her clients would be delighted.

Visiting Tewkesbury on a lovely sunny afternoon, we first walked by this tea room but did a double take and decided to go in. I am so glad we did. What a lovely place. A great mixture of retro/vintage atmosphere. We only had tea and cake (coffee cake and lemon Victoria sponge, both absolutely delicious), beautifully presented on very pretty china plates and an extra pot of hot water for our generous tea pots. Brilliant. I have to commend Melanie's at 49 for their spotlessly clean toilets. I have never been in a better loo. Service was great following the warm friendly greeting. A great job girls. Thank you.

This is one of those places we call at for lunch once a year. We have sometimes found that an eatery you have not been to for a while can have changed dramatically, this is not the case with Melanie's. Cramped and crowded maybe, but an excellent lunch menu with reasonably priced generous portions, plus friendly efficient staff. Definitely recommend.

Dropped in for a sandwich and a drink at lunchtime. While only four or five tables were occupied when we entered the place really started to fill up within ten minutes of us sitting down. As all the cooking is table on a first come first served basis (which is clearly explained by the attentive staff) meaning some of the later arrivals were told their orders would take 20 minutes or even longer, so some left as this was outside their lunch break allowance. The food was very good and served piping hot which is such a rarity these days.

Good variety of food. Staff friendly and attentive. The decor is very nice and varied. Only negative was that the kitchen extraction fan was possibly not as effective as it could have been there was a lot of cooking smells in the eating area.

Have eaten here several lunch times over recent months because it's just down the road from the theatre and opposite my bus stop. Food good basic fare reasonably priced. Service friendly and informal. Ambience a bit old fashioned but comfy. Only real downside is additional cost even for using debit card for less than £10.

A very pleasant tearoom, Melanie's.A cross between a cafe and a sitting room, it's a mix of tables and couches. The floor staff were very prompt and pleasant to deal with. We arrived in before the lunch rush, but they dealt with the rush very well. I went for the ham, cheese and pineapple toastie. My husband the ploughmans. Who knew pineapple worked so well in a toasted sandwich. Well I should have really, as I do love pineapple on a pizza. My husband thought his ploughmans was fine. Facilities were very clean and nice. Always a good sign for a business that serves food. Recommended.

To celebrate my recent 51st birthday, Auntie Jean and I planned a day out to Tewkesbury - Auntie Jean having already sussed out the joint with her pal Mary on a previous visit, we decided to drop in here for lunch. It's a delightful place with masses of atmosphere, lots of interesting/quirky items to catch the eye and although we sat quite a way into the room, as the front door was open, it quickly became apparent why - as the number of people going past who didn't give/receive a cheery greeting were in the minority - a lovely demonstration of what a key piece of the town's hub this restaurant is. Everything is homemade and at the time we visited there were a choice of 3 roasts - Pork/Beef/Chicken, a beef stifado, 3 fresh soups and a nicely balanced light lunch menu which is what we went for - I had pate and toast (and was hugely relieved the coarse Ardennes Pate was room temperature) and Auntie Jean had scambled egg on toast - a nice touch catering to the young and elderly - you could chose 1 or 2 eggs to be scrambled for those with smaller appetites. We'll be dropping in again - lovely place, great menu choice and fab attentive staff who couldn't do enough to ensure we had a lovely time.

We had just driven for over two hours on a cold morning into Tewkesbury. We checked in at the hotel, The Tudor Hotel, where we were too late for breakfast and too early for coffee. The manager, whom we both thought was Tom Kerridge’s brother in looks and accent, pointed us towards a Costa Coffee across the road. Wanting to avoid the big national chains we settled for Melanie’s about two doors away from the hotel. As you can see from the picture the front is broad and welcoming with its big glass windows. Inside it is sort of sixties, seventies and eighties in décor with oil cloth table cloths, plastic flowers in the vases and tables for two, four or six customers. More retro aspects of British catering were to follow. There are a couple of low sofas hugging coffee tables as well. The welcome from the crew was warm and friendly. I appreciate it was a cold morning but the place had been open for at least an hour and temperature wise struck as less than warm when we entered.Currently I am avoiding the full English breakfast and settle for lighter less fried options. So, on the waitress’s recommendation we both settled for the Welsh rarebit. We were told it was all homemade with local produce and we would not regret the choice especially as it came with a salad garnish as well. This definitely is a time warp back to the eighties and before ten in the morning. While we were waiting we were served with a stainless steel pot of coffee which came with a serious health warning. The waitress told us to be very careful pushing the plunger as this sometimes forced the boiling hot contents out of the spout in torrents over whose ever hands were on the pot at the time. In the end the waitress did it for us as she ‘had the knack’. As she ‘plunged’ we were told about a family with a little girl who ordered coffee. When it was served they were given the standard health and safety warning. The little girl made the ‘plunge’ and had to be taken to hospital with severe burns on her arms but it was not the restaurant’s fault as ‘they had warned the family about the dangers of the coffee pot’.Two plates of Welsh rarebit arrived. The salad garnish was as promised but the main attraction looked depressed enough to throw itself under the bus passing outside on its way to Worcester. Firstly, it was served on white sliced processed bread of uniform thickness and size. Secondly, it looked like a Welsh rarebit trying to impersonate cheese on toast. Thirdly, the actual mix on the toast was thinner than the toast, was dry and had very little if none at all of the promised flavours of mustard and local ale. A further time warp back to the eighties was having to open sachets of salad cream to add to the salad garnish also before ten in the morning.A couple of weeks ago I tried the Welsh rarebit at Polly’s Tearooms in Marlborough which was the best I have ever had. It was a rich mixture that was creamy and full of cheesy and mustard flavours that made you wish you could fall into the dish and gorge on. That would get a ten in my book. The same dish at Melanie’s by comparison would only warrant a four.As I said earlier, the welcome was warm and friendly. The service was good but if the coffee pots have to carry a health and safety warning then shouldn't they be replaced?

This review for Badham Pharmacy at Aspen medical centre. Really needs to train staff. I would give O star as staffs were V v rude. There were two young ladies in front, one with light blue frame glasses and another one with silver nose pin, they were shouting to me for no reason even I did not ask how long I need to wait for prescription, I was just in queue and was noticing them their work and they were showing much attitude to customers and were arrogant. I had two another customers waiting in queue for prescription and Badham Pharmacy staff were taunting me by looking at me that we will have to wait as people are going to McDonald's and KFC they obviously wait for half an hour so they will wait here as well. Even though my prescription basket was ready, I was looking that for appox 15 minutes and she was not giving to me. When I remind her basket is ready and it is there she said you have to wait as I am busy with another things. Why????? Even if, it is in front of customers how long it will take to give customers. They made me wait for so long. Such a ridiculous ladies. No manners to behave with customers. If doctor hadn't sent my prescription there I would have never go this Badham Pharmacy. Moreover she was expecting thank you from me, when i didn't thank her she was shouted " excuse me say thank you " Thank you my foot to such staff.
