Meikle Restaurant in Perth & Kinross

Excellent Hogmanay meal in the Meikle Restaurant - a somewhat different way of serving people (as usual over the festive period Crieff Hydro did not explain anything), but the speediest Hogmanay meal I have had there in decades and very good food and service. Why the low overall rating therefore? Cast out of the Meikle as never contacted by Festive Catering to make a restaurant choice despite chasing all through October, November and December (told to email them again on the 28th, they responded they will get back to me in a week's time!). In fairness, the Food and Beverage Manager did see us, but simply to reiterate the policy that in such a huge hotel a table of 3 would scupper everything in the Meikle; there was no explanation as to what had gone on in (mis-)handling our booking, nor was any apology offered. A poor handling of a complaint with no attempt at remedy. A waiting list for the 7:00pm Meikle sitting for example? Exiled back down to the Terrace restaurant again this evening I fear ...

Poor table service, limited vegan and vegetarian options, some nonexistent when ordered. Noisy environment when busy. Poor quality meat dishes, according to the carnivorous in the family.

Great service and food selection was of excellent quality. So much to chose from. The variety of choice was excellent and the cooked food was at good temperature. Only wish the toasters in the hotels would toast bit better. First run just slightly brown on second nearly burnt. That would be my only small complaint.

Enjoyed a lovely 3 course buffet style Sunday lunch. Beautiful restaurant and the food was excellent - good choice and plenty available. The staff were welcoming but perhaps could have been a little more attentive. We asked 3 times to order drinks then we were left with our main course dishes still on the table when we came back with desserts. It wasn’t busy at the time we were there so a bit more attention to detail would have made the difference. Food though is excellent. Would recommend and return.

Lovely setting overlooking the beautiful Perthshire countryside. We had the 3 course set menu. Absolutely stuck for choice. Each course was delicious. Our server Rose was very helpful in making our menu choices.

We had the pleasure of visiting Tiffin at the meikle restaurant this weekend and would highly reccomend! The flavours and presentation were out of this world! The butter chicken was the best I have ever had and my husband loved the rogan josh! Topped off with the most delicious chocolate samosas a visit here is a must! It was a pleasure to meet the chef at the end of our meal and clear to see how passionate he was about his work. A special thanks to the lovely waitress who served us and who was so accommodating to our children! We were very well looked after. 10/10 from us we will definately be back! Also to add we also ate in the main meikle restaurant on evening and the food and service were also amazing! The kids menu is brilliant fir choice! Amazing place! Well done to all the staff and please visit if you can!

Fantastic. Maybe the best Rogan Josh we will ever taste. Absolutely superb. Prawns to start were amazing. Young waiter was absolute class. Only niggle was a mix up with reception in setting up card details. The chef preparing this food is highly skilled and clearly passionate about the product. Fab.

A Monday evening dinner that turned into an unexpected delight, the food was wonderful, full of subtle well balanced flavours, really clever use of spices in dishes that were truly delicious. The best Indian food I can ever remember eating! Cannot rate the chef Manoj highly enough, having tasted his food once, we would make the trip from the west coast just to eat here! Have to also mention the rest of the staff, from the moment we sat down they delivered service that was well above the ordinary, we left feeling like vips in a very special club - huge thanks to Ali our very elegant waiter and Namik the magical manger - they obviously care and love what they do - it comes across. If you can get a booking here - TAKE IT you will be in for a real treat!

Tiffin @ the Meikle. Family of four enjoyed an excellent 2 course Indian, food was very good, service was exceptional from the moment we walked in. Our waiters were attentive without being OTT and nothing seemed to much trouble.

This bar was staffed on Sunday 19 June with three of the most surly and miserable bar persons ever encountered. There was no welcome, no enquiry as to how they could help, just stone-faced silence. It was obvious that there were internal employment problems/disputes that were spilling over into their attitude toward the customer.

Whilst staying at hotel we ask at restaurant if there was a table available we were advised by restaurant Manager (Mark Warters) that restaurant was fully booked. We asked at reception for recommendations of local restaurants as we could not get a table at Meikle that staff member on reception appeared surprised and asked us to follow him to restaurant where we were then given a table. Whilst dining we observed 17 plus empty tables when we asked why we had initially been refused we were advised by Manager that tables are kept for regular diners who did not show up. The meal wasn’t great I would definitely advise anyone not to order the beef bourguignon.

Don’t order Beef bourguignon. Tasteless and a recipe known only to them. Chicken dry and fish overpriced. Vegetables extra.

Excellent choice of food. Something for everyone. Even the Vegetarians in our party had several choices, which they said was a very welcome change for them.

Food was bland- even the kids left their pizza! Adult meals and all drinks were expensive. We would not recommend this restaurant!

Had breakfast here every morning while on holiday with my husband and children. Good selection although the photo scone and bacon were too hard every morning. Had the buffet dinner on our last night. It was quite nice. The vegetables and desserts were tasty. The beef and Yorkshire pudding were hard though and there was no stuffing to go with the chicken. It was also very expensive and they add a 10 per cent tip on to your bill.

Absolutely stunning meal while staying at the Crieff Hydro. Staff fantastic and so helpful. Food and cocktails second to none!

Food not bad. Nothing spectacular considering the surroundings. Was hoping for something’s a little special. Wouldn’t rush back.

Food was well executed for the price range, kids also finished all bit one mouthful of brownie. We required a couple more oatcakes for the cheese board and a bit more hummus for my youngest's starter.Wine was delivered to the table with no cooler and I had to ask for it to be poured, I realise this might come as a bit snarky but I think just a little more on training new staff and this would been excellent.

Booked for Sunday Lunch as a special treat for my parents who had fond memories of lunching in the resturants of Crieff Hydro in the past. Sadly, this has now been replaced by really lacklustre food, poorly cooked and rampant portion control. No green vegetables available at all. One slice of meat per person. Everything sitting tired under hot plate lights . Even had to find the gravy,which was in stainless stell teapots away from the main servery area. The whole meal smacked of holiday camp status with an air of who cares anyway from the servery staff! It all seemed more geared to weekend/hen parties, etc than local eating.. Front of house staff tried very hard to keep a sense of occasion, but were let down continually. Management have obvoiusly completely lost the plot on customer experience and we will not be returning, as there are some excellent alternatives locally. Felt disappointed for my parents as they had even dressed up fo the occasion because it was the Hydro we had chosen for them.

We arrived a bit early for our Christmas party so decided on getting some lunch. The restaurant is large with plenty of seating available. A server came over took our orders then a short time later our food and drinks came out. I had ordered the sharing basket lunch and my wife ordered soup, the basket food was nice but someone with a large appetite might not want to share it. The soup was butternut squash and butterbean but it tasted like vegetable soup, however it did still taste nice and it was quite a big portion. The servers were polite, prompt and well presented and the price was reasonable. Overall a nice place to eat.

My wife and I dined in the Meikle restaurant during our stay at Crieff Hydro.Hotel restaurants can be a hit or a miss and with so many dining options at this hotel your spoilt for choice.We found the welcome from the team to be very relaxed and welcoming and Nerea guided us through our options and was very friendly.The quality of the food was on point with my expectations and the wine selection & recommendations matched well with our food choices.Special thank you to Nerea & Shawn for their warm hospitality.We look forward to visiting again early next year.

Food and service was to such a high standard such an amazing team. Really enjoyed everything and can’t wait to come back!

Attend Crieff hydro often and was disappointed to see the drop in everything good here . Service , quality, food, staffing , efficiency and friendliness Table booked for 630 , no bread now obviously cut back fair enough but over priced food with poor service doesn’t feel acceptable. , cold starter , sent back , child meal took 45 minute then wrong , then incorrect again , runout of peas . Mains took forever and not a patch on previous years . Another 30 mins for child ice cream came grapes whole . Very rude manager who would not listen kept talking over my daughter . Shocking as could be so lovely ......

We were part of a set menu deal but the 2 course meal was delicious and plenty to enjoy on the plate.

My wife and I had Sunday lunch at the Mikel restaurant. The quality of service from the staff was excellent as was the quality of the food. It is a lovely restaurant with a terrific atmosphere and well worth a visit.

Attended as a family with a baby. Table for 7.30 , waited an hour an half to get a main course , decided to skip dessert being as we feared waiting till 11pm for that. Waiter poured water on the table once, our glasses were all empty and no one came to check on us, no one asked us if we wanted any further drinks. By 9.00 pm when food did arrive we were all fairly ravenous and unimpressed to discover at £4 for a side of mash you’re lucky to get a portion that would have satisfied the baby . , when we highlighted we had waited an hour and a half for food whilst watching four tables arrive after us and be served before us we were told that was because they were smaller tables and no apology offered - we were a table of 5. Would suggest if a restaurant can’t cope with serving a table of 5 in front of 5 other tables of 2 then they shouldn’t be advertising themselves as fine dining. Basic service not met and unacceptable given the price charged. Extremely disappointing and would recommend you avoid - stark contrast to the restaurant at their sister hotel murray park - excellent food, excellent and attentive service.

The staff in the Meikle were friendly and helpful, never flustered and, even when the restaurant was full, were attentive.

Nice classic setting. This is the fine dining of the hotel. Breakfast lacks variety as well as better products. Very young dtaff with little supervision

I got my mum a DBB Itison voucher for her birthday, hotel was gorgeous couldn’t fault but food was a big let down at Miekle restaurant, soup was cold, beef stew was cold and chewy, green beans uncooked, my dad had to spit out as couldn’t get teeth through it, mash was sloppy due to the amount of runny gravy on plate, Granted you don’t get as big a choice with these deals but you expect it to be at least edible. They were asked to book for dinner when checking in and only had 5.30 or 8.15 available, they accepted 5.30 and when they finished meal about 6.30 only 4 tables were occupied which really didn’t strike them as busy.

I recently visited The Hydro for a meal. I chose the Meikle Restaurant again as I was very impressed by it the last time I was there. Well, I chose wisely again as I was not disappointed. I was warmly greeted by Anthony and taken to a fantastic window seat with great views over the grounds. (Which look stunning at night time.) The food was amazing as always. The pork belly was excellent. Would highly recommend trying it. Anthony also recommended a great red wine to go along with my food choice.

This is the posh restaurant at the Hydro. The food was fabulous! We had kids with us...a teen and a tot. Kids menu was a good selection and came really quickly, which was great for our two year old. The teen picked from all different menus, as you would expect...staff were great! Friendly and accommodating. We were in and out in under an hour... highly recommend for a family outing.

16 in our group, sat at 2 circular tables of 8. So nice to eat at circular tables. All enjoyed the food and had a fantastic meal

Lovely place to eat. Love restaurant and staff really lovely. We had Sunday dinner here most enjoyable but Mon and Tues was fully booked so we didn’t get in. Reception staff at Hydro was really good though. Booked us into Murray Park on the Mon night. Tues we went into the Winter Garden and had sandwiches which were really lovely.

Always a highlight of a stay at this hotel or in the cottages. Food as always was plentiful and of good quality. Clearly in August it is very busy. The place was packed and whilst the service was good the replenishment of the breakfast was not in pace with demand so choice limited when we got to front of line. However a return visit sorted this and we were all well set up for the day

The hotel made sure that there was something special at the table. The meal for 14 people arrived in good time, was hot and excellent. There were a few other celebrations in the restaurant!

we had both a dinner and breakfast experience here. the breakfast was greasy and average. not an amazing choice of foods.

poor value, poor quality, motorway services standard at 5 star price. Cant find much good to say, other than staff were friendly. Very poor choice of non fried food at breakfast. Fried haggis looked and tasted like it had been made in a cement mixer and something resembling Lorne sauage tasted foul.

Ate breakfast here and it was excellent. There was a great selection of fruit, cereal, pastries and everything you'd expect in a full Scottish breakfast. Delicious!

Varied menu which is fairly pricey - £19 for chicken , £29 for sirloin. Food is nicely presented but very average in flavour. Service was quick but no bread/ rolls offered before starter arrived. Dress code for dining room not adhered to by some diners which was unfortunate as you have a code to maintain a standard.

My husband and I had dinner for our anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed it. The maitre’d and the waiting staff were second to none and could not do enough for us. I had the beef as my starter and my husband had the pig (as called on the menu). We both thought that our dishes were very tasty and cleared our plates. My husband opted for the Beef fillet steak for his main and I had the Chicken. Again we both cleared our plates as the food was delicious. We washed this down with a very nice bottle of Pino Grigio. Dessert just capped off our meal. I had the raspberry cheesecake and my husband opted for the full cheeseboard. I’m annoyed at myself for not taking any photos of the plates however, to be honest, we were enjoying ourselves too much to be snapping away. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and can’t recommend it enough. We can’t wait to return.

Brilliant staff, could not do enough for us. The children were very well looked after and the Sunday lunch satisfied all generations. The outside play areas were fun and resulted in a relaxed day for all.

Booked lunch here on a rainy Sunday. Good choice of soup/cold buffet starters and carvery coped well with our group aged between 10 and 80. Live music and friendly staff as well as a reasonable price make this a reliable option for a decent Sunday lunch stop.

Again, staff were excellent. Polite, efficient and helpful. The breakfast was buffet style and was good. A wide range of cooked ingredients were available as were cereals, beveridges and bread(s).

We love Crieff Hydro. However, our last visit was tainted by the shambolic service in the Meikle Restaurant. In scenes resembling that of Faulty Towers, but in no way funny, just about everything we requested was ignored. Plates were coming out and going to the wrong tables. Waiters were asking diners where to put the food. Options were pricey and the food was canteen quality. Children’s portions were tiny. My daughter was hungry upon completion. What is really staggering is the shambolic approach to allergens and intolerances. I finally lost it when one of the only gluten free desserts came with a gluten twizzle, which my wife who is coeliac consumed. The entire menu didn’t make sense from a coeliac perspective. Meat dishes like steak were marked as containing gluten, with no option to remove offending items. To be fair, the Manager removed the food from our order. It wasn’t worth the money and I would have felt cheated if I’d paid. In addition, there are no gluten free options in Piccolino and the Manager there is nippy. Your best bet would be to go to the brasserie, as it is well run and has options. If it wasn’t so good for families, I’d never go back.

What a breakfast experience. The choice is the best choice I have saw for breakfast in a any hotel there was Cereal, all different types of breads and croissants, tea, coffee and orange and apple juices. French items I.e cheeses and hams. And a full hot area section with mushrooms, bacon, fried egg, scrambled egg, tomatoes, potato scones, sausage, beans, hash Browns, haggis and black pudding. All tasted delicious and would highly recommend.

Excellent menu and wine list. Great locally sourced produce. Served with a polite finesse. Worth a visit.

We found service here to be slow and menu choices unimaginative and limited. Possibly because of the slow service food frequently arrived cold and, on one occasion, the wrong order entirely was presented. It definitely fails to live up to the impression given of fine dining.

Rather disappointed with our evening meal tonight. While my partners salmon main was tasty, my roast turkey was dry and of processed appearance. The slice of stuffing was tasteless.

Our first night comprised Smoked Salmon and Rump of Lamb for me and my wife enjoyed a delightful fishcake starter followed by Sea Bass. With Sauvignon Blanc and Malbec as wines this was not only a superb dinner but not overly expensive, with adequate but not large portions.

The food here is not at all worth the wait. On two occasions we had to wait over an hour. The experience was only further worsened by a rude waitress, rude staff and unappetising food. I would deigning wot advise going to eat out with the restaurant if you like a nice yummy wholesome filling meal.

The best Sunday Roast (beef) Lunch, buffet style I have ever had! Evening meals all excellent too. Don't be fooled by portion sizes.

We love Crieff Hydro and this has been our 4th visit. Sadly the service has gone rapidly downhill. We know there was a conference on this weekend and the hotel was probably at capacity but breakfast was wild and our relaxing evening meal at the Meikle was chaotic with 3/4 waiters serving us during our meal which led to lots of confusion- staff forgetting things we asked for - our meals being brought out and offered to other couples waiting on deserts then we had to watch them be taken back into the kitchen to be brought out 5 mins later with the plates warmer than the food. The service and food in the Italian piccolo however on Friday night was fantastic.

Nice setting with a varied menu - essential to book - also arrive early and enjoy a relaxing pre-dinner drink in the bar. Good range of beers and whiskies. For some odd reason they don’t stock Bacardi but do in another bar in the hotel - very odd !

Would highly recommend the Meikle.

We had a great dinner in the Meikle Restaurant during our stay at Crieff Hydro - kedgeree to start, sea bream as main course and coconut creme brûlée dessert. Good service and nice touches such as the Happy Birthday plate.

Ate here as part of a dinner, bed and breakfast deal where you got £21 per person towards dinner. My husband had the pate then the burger and I had topside of beef then cheesecake. Burger was huge and husband said was really nice. My topside of beef was lovely but only got two tiny slices, 1 Yorkshire pudding, 1/3 of a carrot and tiny drop of potatoes. Then got cheesecake which again was lovely but tiniest piece I’ve ever seen. As the food was part of our deal it was fine but would I come back and pay for it? Answer is no. Can’t fault the food or staff just ridiculously overpriced for what you get.

Had breakfast here included in dinner, bed and breakfast deal. Choice of food was really good and included haggis which was very tasty. All the usual Scottish breakfast items were on offer as well as continental breakfast choices, cereals etc. Something to suit everyone’s tastes porridge could also be ordered and requests were taken for eggs poached rather than fried or scrambled! We all thoroughly enjoyed it!

We were staying in their sister hotel and decided to eat one night here.

Had dinner here with my husband last night and although the service was very good we both felt that the meal was distinctively average. My husband had the beef but was told that there were no Yorkshire puddings. He was offered extra onion rings instead ! but as he didn’t want them he was offered extra potatoes which he didn’t get. I ordered the lamb which was well cooked but was not very hot and I couldn’t finish the meal as it had become cold. The chocolate fondant dessert was dry and we were offered complimentary coffee as recompense. A disappointing meal

Had duck and puy lentils - wasn't great. My partner had a rib eye steak which was good. The Brasserie restaurant was better. I have to say we were both happy with the breakfasts there - just not dinner.

Good menu, lots of choice. Lots of wines offered by the glass which was good. I was dining alone and it was nice not to be shoved in a rubbish seat, or unduly rushed or treated like a weirdo. I enjoyed my food, eating more than planned and had a very nice glass of wine. Good service and a pleasant ambiance. It was funny to have lots of stressed parents looking at me in envy!

Just book in early to avoid disappointment the food was excellent and so was the service will be eating here again on next visit the the Chief Hydro

Had breakfast in Meikle each morning and what a choice! Great quality of food on offer and hot choices were always really warm. Evening meal was delicious and staff were friendly and attentive thus ensuring excellent service. We ate from Daily Specials menu and it was first class.

Meals more like a budget hotel and breakfast a shambles. The portion sizes were extremely disappointing and the quality was poor. The starters were very basic and the mains would just about be enough to make people think they need a third course.

Recently visited with my family, had a beautiful meal, all the family were catered for and everyone’s was amazing! Couldn’t fault!

We we're staying elsewhere in Crieff but ate one night at Crieff Hydro. Overall the dinner was very good. I had sea bass and my husband had duck. The duck was exceptional. And the brownie dessert was also terrific.

Food was amazing and. Would recommend the seafood dishes and the service and staff were so attentive and helpful

Wo werden heutzutage den Hotelgästen von jungen Kellnern liebevoll die Servietten im Schoss platziert? Auch die Damen im Service haben uns Bus-Touristen jeden Wunsch zuvorkommend erfüllt. Die Speisekarte mit den verschiedenen Gängen war sehr ansprechend. Die Küche schottisch und international. Die Mahlzeiten vorzüglich zubereitet. - Wie in Schottland üblich, mussten die Getränke vor dem Nachtessen an der Bar bezogen werden. Das Wasser freilich wurde in Karaffen gratis angeboten, wenn auch leicht chloriert. - Das Frühstücksbuffet war sehr reichhaltig und gab einen guten Nährboden für die folgenden Etappen mit dem Bus.

Came here for breakfast. Huge selection and all were tasty. Buffet style. Food were refilled promptly when almost finished. Staff were polite, helpful. Restaurant can be very busy as it is the only one serving breakfast and the noise level can be pretty high.

A good choice of menu and good service. We had the poached salmon which was moist and cooked perfectly. However, the wine list is limited and the restaurant needs to be refurbished....dated like everywhere else outwith the main reception.

Booked for 2pm. Starters congealed and had run out of prawns. Main was 1 roast meat not good roast spuds and mixed root veg. No green veg on offer. Desserts usual prefrozen ones cheese looked ok.

The staff seemed to get a bit behind during this very busy Saturday night service. There were big family groups in and lots of birthdays being celebrated.

We had an excellent breakfast here each morning while staying at Crieff Hydro. We also had dinner here on our last evening. Breakfast took the form of a buffet and offered juices, fruits and cereals, cold meats and cheeses, cooked breakfast, toast, rolls, croissants and pastries. Dinner was excellent with beautifully presented tasty food and fast service. The staff were courteous and helpful.

Breakfast was self service, a good variety was of food provided to choose from. Being a Scottish hotel I looked for the porridge; I later discovered that it had to be ordered! The quality of the food was good & there were nice Scottish jams & marmalade to choose from.

When we arrived we were told that our booking couldn’t be found even though we had phoned the reception previously to make sure we could reserve ourselves a table. The young woman went to get her manager and when the manger came she told us that our booking had been lost but she would arrange for a table to be set up for us.

One night stay at Crieff hydro was brilliant unfortunately the Meal we had at the Meikle restaurant was extremely dissapointing. I ordered duck when it came I had 2 slices of duck with a square rubber looking thing still not sure what it's meant to be. Veg was near enough raw. The duck was really over cooked and was in a weird brown sauce. My husband had lamb and have to say I had a bit of both and they both tasted the same my husband thought the same. The cost for 2 small slices of over cooked duck with a handful of veg and a piece of square rubber was £18.50. Really dissapointing, I should have sent it back but I have a fear that they will do something to my food if I return it. Anyway on a positive note the staff were fantastic so nice and polite shame about the food. We also had breakfast in the morning here and this was also dissapointing and had a similar taste. We probably should have chose the Brassiere, I would not go back to the Meikle restaurant.

Obviously, I don't like waiting a long time for my food to arrive. Conversely, when your main meal arrives at your table only a few minutes after you ordered it, alarm bells should start ringing.

21 of us stayed at the hotel, we enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the Meikle. Choice was plentiful and the quality of the produce was delicious.

A visit hugely enhanced by a most helpful waiter who couldn’t do enough. The food was good, although the prawn cocktail was a bit short on prawns

Enjoyed the meal on our recent stay and the Ayrshire pork loin was excellent. You can buy either 2 or 3 courses in a set menu. Plenty food and great service. Good bar too.

Lovely staff, fantastic service and amazing views made this a meal to remember. All our food as excellent - moist chicken, delicious venison, wonderful sauces. The desserts were excellent and choice of wine superb.

This was the restaurant in crieff hydro . It was ok but would think the waiting staff need yo step up to standards. Also the chef needs to remember people are staying for more than one night therefore don't call the same food the next day a different name not good at all.

Luckily we booked a table for 8pm. But even then the dining hall was absoutley jumping. It was so busy. We had the set menu 3 courses. Hubby had to send back his main course ( venison) he couldn't even chew it & he struggled to cut it. But it was taken away & replaced with no bother.

We ate here for the two nights as part of a family weekend. The food was good, prices reasonable with a good wine selection as well. The service was a bit patchy at times depending on what waiter you asked as some of them appeared to be "new starts" but on the whole it was very good considering how busy the place was.

Slow service. Diatery requirements ignored. Side orders served after main was finished. Children's 'steak pie'. The size of a small Christmas pie and poor filling. Not suitable for children over three years ! A family celebration meal a real let down.

We celebrated a birthday at the Meikle. Food was good and the staff couldn't have been more attentive and cheerful. I had ordered a cake which was brought in at the end of the meal and this was done with great gusto with several of the staff joining in the singing.

We enjoyed our meals. The restaurant wasn't too busy. The prices were reasonable. The staff were friendly and attentive

We ate at the Meikle Restaurant on both nights of our stay and the food was excellent - good choice and well presented using very good ingredients. Our only comment would be that the food wasn't hot enough.
