Absolutely fantastic all-round. A extended family group of us all went to visit family in Portsmouth. Searched for local halal food options and decided on Mehmet Kitchen. We arrived and the restaurant was very busy. We were prepared to wait (best decision) and soon given tables together to accommodate us all. We all come from London where a huge choice of Turkish restaurants exist, so the competition is fierce. I did not expect anything too different to what we were used to in London. But we were so pleasantly surprised to be thrilled by the taste of the food here. The seasoning and spices were so tasty and cooked to perfection. All the meats were so juicy, succulent, full of flavour, and even the doner meats were juicy - not dry like most restaurants. Accompanying fresh salad and sauces were also so tasty. I can confidently state everyone of us enjoyed the food at this Turkish restaurant beyond expectation. The portions were also very large, lots of meats cooked perfectly. We could not finish all the food although there was 13 of us, and they happily packed a takeaway box of the unfinished food which was my lunch the very next day. Service was wonderful. The owner, Mehmet, his wife, and all their staff members so attentive and lovely to have conversation with. We finally finished by ordering some Turkish teas, and when the bill arrived, I saw they did not charge us for the teas! Prices were so reasonable and value for money. So please do consider 'tipping' to help them out. Honestly could not fault this restaurant and wish they were nearer to us in London - they would have become our regular Turkish food destination. I think we will need to make more effort to visit friends and family living in Portsmouth just as an incentive to dine at this wonderful Turkish restaurant again and again. Will be extremely tuff to enjoy Turkish food at our regular ones here in London after having discovered this gem. Thank you to all at Mehmet Kitchen, we thoroughly had a brilliant finish to our day before driving back to London. We shall most certainly be back when in Portsmouth.

Mehmet Kitchen in Portsmouth has a central high street location with indoor seating, but there are a few things that made our experience less than ideal. Firstly, they don’t accept card payments, which felt inconvenient and raised questions about transparency. We waited over 45 minutes for our food, which was frustrating. The chicken was overly salty, and the bread served with the meal was more like toasted biscuits than traditional Turkish bread. Surprisingly, the kebab came without any salad—something I’ve never experienced at a Turkish restaurant before. When we mentioned this, the staff did offer complimentary tea, which was actually one of the highlights of the meal. We also ordered Ayran expecting a freshly made version, but were given a canned one you can easily find in supermarkets. Adding to the odd atmosphere, staff started cleaning the windows with strong chemicals right in front of the dining area while customers were still eating. On the plus side, the staff were friendly, though a bit loud at times. Unfortunately, despite their hospitality, the overall experience wasn’t great, and I don’t see myself returning.

Without doubt, hands down, the best authentic kebab/turkish cuisine you’re going to get in this fair city… my only disappoint is that it took me so long to go find them! Top-top quality on all fronts, food, service, even the packaging is all a cut above! No hesitation in recommending - and already looking at the menu to choose what we’re gonna have on our next visit!

He treats every guest like a personal visitor to his home, creating an atmosphere that feels genuinely welcoming and relaxed. The service reflects the same spirit—attentive, generous, and incredibly hospitable. The menu is a celebration of traditional Turkish kebabs and oven-baked specialities, making it a dream for lovers of the cuisine. We started with Lahmacun, which was perfectly thin and crispy, topped with a well-seasoned mince mixture that had just the right balance of spice and freshness. For mains, we had Lamb Shish & Adana Kebab—both were tender, smoky, and full of flavour, grilled to perfection. The Cheese & Lamb Pide was another standout, with a crispy yet slightly chewy base and rich, savoury toppings that took us straight back to Turkey. Another detail that made the experience special was the generosity of service, true to Turkish dining tradition. Before the mains arrived, we were served freshly baked bread, a crisp salad, a selection of sauces, and even a complimentary cup of Turkish tea—all included, just as it should be. It’s a small but important touch that shows their dedication to authenticity. We finished with a beautifully creamy Sutlac (rice pudding), which was just the right level of sweet and aromatic, with a lovely caramelised top. Mehmet’s is a top favourite restaurant of ours… we come at least once a week. The food is always delicious and the staff are always so friendly and a happy to help with any questions about the menu when you want to try something new. Our server today was Ellie and she was lovely, and couldn’t do more for us and checking in that we were ok while dining in.

Used to order from here before and the food was nice. The last few times I’ve ordered, the meat was burnt, portions are getting smaller and smaller.. Yesterday I’ve ordered a halloumi wrap and a chicken wrap, you could hardly find any meat or cheese in them, also salad was missing, but instead the wrap was full chunky cut onions. It was more like an onion wrap.. disgusting. Wouldn’t order anything from there again

Amazing service! Somehow managed to order my food to the other side of Portsmouth. With no complaints my food was delivered to me within 15 minutes and wouldn’t accept my tip for the inconvenience. This is why I keep coming back!

Another fantastic evening at Mehmet’s Kitchen to celebrate a friend’s birthday. As he is on a keto (very low carb diet) and doesn’t drink alcohol, Mehmet’s was the perfect place to celebrate! Lots of meat, lots of Turkish tea later, we pulled out a game of “UNO No Mercy” and played until closing time! Fantastic food, fantastic service as always.

We visited Mehmets on Saturday night for the first time after being recommended by friends! The staff were friendly and welcoming, we were greeted straight away and offered the choice of 2 tables. Nicola was attentive and so efficient! The food was served quickly, was hot and very tasty! The best kebab meat we have had in a long time! We will recommend to our friends and family and return with the children very soon. It is a great place for a date night but also for the whole family to eat out too. Memhets is our favourite place to eat. We visited tonight with some friends and fancied trying something different as we always end up having the same thing. We asked Nicky what she would recommend and we ordered what she suggested. It was seriously good. The meat quality as always was beautiful. The Pide which was new for us was delicious. We had a platter and there was so much food that we ended up with a doggy bag. Exceptional service and fantastic value for money. Big shout out to Nicky for choosing the food and being so attentive. What a find, authentic, fresh, quality food, from arrival, the meet and greet to the fantastic menu advice from the wife of the owner, along with free taste samples, turnip juice! that was surprisingly good and how the dishes are made...in a word fresh. Our sharing hot plater was phenomenal flavor and presentation, main course as recommended were truly amazing and even converted a non lamb eater..to food envy!! The place has a smart casual feel, like being on holiday!!. Value for money and despite being stuffed full Nicky sent us on our way with free home made rice pud! . Attentive front of house, skilled cookery, amazing flavors. Take away is superb but sit down in the restaurant is another level. Our new go to for quality, yet healthy, homemade fresh food.
