Meat Liquor in Brighton and Hove

We had another amazing meal at Meat Liqour Brighton and whilst it’s been consistently great for many years, our latest visit on Fri 16th Aug was the best yet. The burger smashing has been honed to perfection; well seasoned super thin patties, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Fries great as always and the dead hippie sauce was the perfect accompaniment. A special mention to our host Dylan, he ensured a great burger was accompanied by a great experience and made the visit memorable for all the right reasons. Can’t wait to visit again soon! Thanks again Dylan and all the team at Meat Liqour. You smashed it!

Group of 9 attended on a Friday night for some food and drinks. The entire place has a great vibe. Lots of delicious food and drinks choices. I have to say my burger was honestly one of the best I’ve had. Cannot recommend this place enough. All of the staff were very accommodating and helpful, our server Harry in particular was fantastic. You have to try this place!

Quality has dropped, the new monkey fingers recipe isn't as good, breaded chicken now and the quality of chicken isn't as good as previously Burgers and shakes still good but lumps of unmelted cheese on the chilli cheese fries now Used to be an elite place for good food but it's just dropped off a bit now, a shame really

Fun place with really dirty burgers and loaded fries plus loaded hash browns. Cocktails, mescal and tequila. Child friendly. Laid back atmosphere with friendly staff

Attended on 20/04, The staff were absolutely amazing with us the whole time we was there. The food is out of this world and I would really recommend this place. Two ladies who served us was so lovely and made my partners Birthday very special. The drinks were fantastic too, great barman, everyone was so happy with the food and the whole experience. The decor is really funky too, definitely coming back.

I dont blame the staff because we could see they are running around, trying to deliver, doing their best But we felt like the restaurant was heavily understaffed. 2 waitresses, 2 chefs, 2 bartenders making drinks. It was a busy Sunday night after a Marathon - simply Not enough.

Definitely our favourite visit thus far to Meat Liquor. The food and drinks were great, lovely service and decent tunes. We'll be back. Perfect pre-gig hangout.

We came here for our teenage son’s birthday and thoroughly enjoyed our time. The food was excellent and the staff were very attentive and friendly. I highly recommend the ‘Dead Hippie’ burger which was cooked to perfection and the Malted milkshake was a wonderful addition. Great food, fantastic atmosphere in a truly funky venue. A tip for those visiting by car, park in Trafalgar Street car park, which offers secure parking for £6.90 all night after 6pm.

Amazing venue, great staff and awesome food. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here and absolutely would return. Some people might moan about the music but personally we loved this vibrant, bustling atmosphere. Great for a funky night out!

Really tasty, well presented food. Plenty of choice. Jagermeister ice cream was not such a hit with me- it did not quite live up to my expectations.

Service at Meatliquor is always great, really friendly and helpful. Plus super dog friendly! Visited early on a Monday evening, so it was fairly quiet in the restaurant and meant we were able to take our time at the table.

Incredible both times! Tried MEATliquor in London and now Brighton. 10/10 would recommend, everything tastes amazing and never fails to be outstanding!

Can’t pretend we loved the food here. Everything was completely drenched in sauces, which whilst sounded delicious on the menu completely overpowered the food. The monkey sauce on the chicken wasn’t pleasant at all, and like eating neat vinegar. The cheese sauce on the chips was plain nasty. It was a shame as this was a Christmas treat for our kids, but the flavours were just so overpowering that some of the dishes weren’t palatable. Hasten to add ive never left a bad review before, but wouldn’t go back here. Plus side, waitresses were really great and attentive, not their fault the food wasn’t great!

Were seated for 20 minutes before we even saw a server to take our order. Drinks then took another 15 minutes to arrive Food arrived 50 minutes later. No communication as to what the hold up was, or if there were any issues. Food finally arrived. buffalo fries were soggy, the sauce was way to thin, should be thicker, so it was just a giant pool at bottom of dish making them uneatable. Beef burger was fine. Buffalo chicken burger terrible, thin chicken breast used which had next to no meat, didn't even fill half the bun. Bill arrived, 12.5% tip already added, plus charity donation. I understand you can ask to have them removed but just makes you feel obligated to pay. Tip should be at customer discretion, not added on already. Shame as usually enjoy this place, but we won't be rushing back anytime soon after that appalling service and experience.

Food was great, love the chicken gravy and all the different sauce options too. Service was fine but not particularly friendly or warm which stands out in Brighton as everyone else we’d met in restaurants was so lovely! The restaurant looks good but the toilets were pretty bad and need more cleaning.

Really great food and cocktails. A slightly odd way of serving food on a big tray. No separation of standard food and non dairy. A good place for the staff Xmas meal we were on.

Great food and there's a good reason that you get a roll of kitchen towel rather than a knife and fork. There were 6 of us and everyone was positive about their food. Sides are a little pricey but were pretty tasty. The restaurant is pretty unique in looks but well suited to Brighton.

Excellent food freshly prepared and really tasty. Plenty of food in each portion, our eyes were definitely bigger than our tummies. This was a brilliant way to celebrate our daughters 18th and they brought her a milkshake of her choice with a candle in.

Somewhere I've wanted to try for ages. Place is cool, we came in at 5pm on a Tuesday so was expectedly quiet - I reckon there's quite an atmosphere when the place is busy! Good size menu, chilli cheese fries were probably the only let down. Burgers were decent, great fried pickles too! Strong cocktails and a good craft beer selection too...

Have been here a few times and been consistently impressed by the place. The staff are commendably friendly and efficient and the food and drink are varied and consistently good. Most recently we visited for my friends birthday. One thing I love is how versatile this place is- I’ve been here for lunch, I’ve been here for a night out and it excels at both. They have an extensive drink menu and we ordered some interesting cocktails of their own design that were very tasty, I also ordered from their more classic selection of cocktails and opted for an old fashioned a little later in the evening- it was perhaps a tad sweet for my tastes but that is purely personal preference. They also have a good list of beer and wine if you’re more in to that. I was always dubious visiting here as a vegetarian since the word meat is literally in the title, but the veggie options here are varied and sublime. I started with an order of fried pickles, which I admit are an acquired taste, but they were delicious and they pair excellently with a beer. The cheese and onion loaded fries were great as well- a good amount of toppings: gooey cheese, pickled and crispy onions, and fries that still managed to be crispy underneath. The garlic mushroom burger was out of good world. I’ve been to restaurants and audibly heard the chef scoff at having to cook a mushroom burger, but this is no joke. Garlicky, umami and delicious. Genuinely one of- if not the- best burger I have ever had. I could not recommend it more strongly. Overall the food is well presented, fairly reasonably priced and incredibly tasty and the service is efficient without being officious- the staff are both chatty and attentive. We will definitely be back.

Came here to celebrate my daughters birthday as it’s her favourite restaurant. We love the vibe, decor, food and shakes! Slightly disappointed that, even though we were asked on our reservation if we were celebrating an occasion and stating this on the form, not one member of staff wished her a happy birthday or acknowledged the occasion. Suggest either removing this question from the form if it serves no purpose or putting in processes around it to improve service. That said, food and atmosphere was fab as always and we will be back!

The service was very slow even though drinks mainly came in cans. Does it really take 30mins to take a can out of the fridge. They also had a lot of staff working whom seem to need to spend a reasonable volume of their shift checking their phones.

We are regular visitors to ML Brighton, we love the place and the food, and the service is always excellent. We have the same thing every time; buffalo wings, fried pickles, onion rings and chips and it never disappoints. Service is always very friendly. We even always sit in the same place. Will be going back again soon

Had a great evening. Food was fab. Waitress was good taking our order. After the food arrived service very poor. Restaurant really quiet. Serving staff stood at the back on their phones! Couldn't get there attention. Very frustrating.Had to get up twice?One to order more drinks and again to get our bill. Not the cheapest of burger places, so I would expect better service.

This place used to do ‘amazing’ burgers and every time I visited Brighton I would visit. Went end of September and the food was ‘just’ ok. It felt like everything had been dialled back in terms of taste and quality. We did speak with someone who said only the cheese sauce on the chilli fries had changed but even the chilli wasn’t as good. Unsure how to categorise this but it’s not as good as it used to be, which is a real shame.

It's a shame, as I used to love your burgers!! The chicken fillet was tiny compared to what it used to be, and flat and just a bit meh. I was so excited as they used to be the best chicken burger in town, but I'm not sure if come back again now

I have to say this is the best burger I've had in a long time. It was very fresh and there was not a single bit of grizzle in any part of the party (a problem I find with most burger joints).

Always loved going to Meat Liquor, our go to was always Monkey Fingers; delicious strips of tender chicken I believe to have been battered in tempura batter? I may be wrong but either way, they were delicious. In a serving of buffalo sauce served with blue cheese sauce. A hardcore chicken fans dream. We only ever visit when we’re in London or Brighton but go every time were in town. Until now. We ordered our beloved Monkey Finger dish this evening, most likely for the last time. Bland, breaded coated chicken, most likely a knock off of Colonels secret recipe, which was also seasoned with charcoal. If you’re visiting expecting to have your beloved Monkey Fingers as you last remember it, avoid going to Meat Liquor at all cost. They’ve ruined the dish and probably angered allot of patrons. I’d be interested if a manager could make comment as to why this popular dish has been ruined?

An interesting, quirky place to eat. They have a good selection of drinks including floats (e.g. cherry soda with ice cream). Food options are burgers or little bites. 2 of us shared a selection of the little bites e.g. fries, fried pickles, macaroni cheese, hot hashbrowns, chicken etc which were very tasty. Service was friendly and quick.

Not sure why it's taken so long to visit this restaurant. Great venue. Excellent burgers and service and will definitely be visiting again. Only down side was the foul mouthed family on the table next to us; which would have been bearable if a late night visit but at 7 in the evening........ I won't be letting that put me off going again though. Great place.

Came here last week on a friend's advice and well.... the burger was fantastic, didn't take long to arrive and definitely coming again!. The onion rings are huge and very tasty and the best I've ever had and their beer selection is just as great as the food one!. Staff were really cool and friendly and really were happy I loved it, see you next time I'm in Brighton!.

Went last weekend, most of the menu has changed again and not for the better. Going back to when it opened we were regulars but I don’t think I will go back anymore. Cheesy onion chips are awful now, they have nacho cheese covering them with a sprinkle of red onions. Monkey fingers are now chicken goujons and the chicken wings didn’t look appetizing at all. Dead hippie still tasted the same ( untouched) which is always a go to but we won’t be going back again unfortunately.

Meat Liquor is excellent! From the amazing interior decor to the excellent selection of beers, to the delicious food, a visit here will not disappoint

Food was really good as always, however I did pay for a mayo that didn't make it in the bag and when I realised I was too far away to go back.Also, I ordered a lettuce wrap burger and although incredibly tasty, it was so juicy and messy, and no napkins were put in the bag either. It was a difficult experience eating that burger in the car!Also my green chilli burger was so spicy it blew my head off - but that is probably just me being a bit of a wuss!

Thought it was a bit average, music was very loud we could hardly chat or hear the waiting staff. Food all came together on one tray, which we had to plate up ourselves... Not really great considering the current pandemic.

Looked up the food and drink on Instagram as well as the online menus and was pretty excited about hitting up Meatliquor with some mates. We were seated and waited about 8 minutes for a drink- pretty decent selection (but you can get better quality cocktails at places like Bootlegger without the price tag!) I did really enjoy my peaches and cream IPA though- only it was £5 a can! I imagined with such expensive prices the serving sizes would reflect the cost but absolutely not! The £7.20 green chilli fries were an absolute joke- no flavour, soggy and clearly rushed. The cheese had barely melted and the 'green chilli butter' was just a poor man's sprinkle. We waited an hour for our meal and it was all served at once- the pickles would've been great with my first beer but alas EVERYTHING came out at once. The onion rings were £5 and you literally got five of them FIVE. It was a joke, maybe they are made of the rarest brown onions Lidl has on sale. The burgers- I ordered a £10.45 burger and it could fit into the palm of my tiny little hand. It was ridiculously small, way too much sauce and buffalo is my favourite- the sauce was too vinegary and was soaked in it. Mac and Cheese bits were literally bits- £6.95 for 5 squares! I was so disappointed, I felt ripped off and I guess that's why I am choosing to write this review- help manage others' expectations. This place was underwhelming in every aspect, did not deliver on any level. Servers were semi attentive and apologetic about the long wait- after the huge disappointment of dinner I no longer wanted any dessert or to try their spiked milkshakes. I'll never go back again won't be recommending this place to others. Desperately need to manage price/quality/portion size as the price doesn't hold up to the quality or size of the food.

Popped in here after the cinema this evening having heard great reviews about the place. The food was good, slightly overpriced for smaller than expected portions but sides in particular were really nice (hash browns and mac&cheese). However, the visit was overshadowed by the insanely rude waitress who served us. Initially, we were shown to our table by a very nice girl. Then our waitress approached. She took our drinks order and very suddenly and promptly stormed off. We shared a smile about and then she came back to take our food order. At the end of taking both of our orders, she quite literally rolled her eyes, sighed loudly and tutted as she abruptly walked off again. It was so brazen we didn’t even have time to make light of it to her and just looked at each other as if wondering if that had just happened?! The final nail in the coffin was her adding a voluntary 12.5% tip to the bill which I very politely asked her to remove. I don’t normally like to do this but honestly, we both agreed it was probably the worst service we’ve ever received.

Dropped in on a Wednesday evening as this place had been recommended to us and we must say it was very good.Service - very good, everyone was really polite, friendly and the food came out in very good time.Food - really good, we had a burger and chicken burger plus a couple of fries and side. All was utterly delicious, great flavours, perfect portion sizes and everything was lovely and fresh. Cocktails were nice, didn’t have a pud!! Price - I thought good value for money as we were full to bursting and as a couple we ending up spending a little over £60 with a couple of cocktails.Environment - great vibe about the place, nice music, funky layout and very clean and tidy. Totally recommend and would definitely return if in the area.

Heard great things so were excited to visit. Restaurant a bit gruby and toilets more so. Probably the worst burger I have had and the most expensive. Chicken tasted like it was going off. Fries were cheap rubbish and costafortune! Serving everything on a tray to then balance transferring to a plate was a shambles. Smallest cheeseburger I have seen. All in all the most expensive rubbish burger experience ever. Maccy Do’s and BurgerKing would be luxury in comparison. Do not waste your money as will be very disappointed!

It’s been a while since we visited MEATLiquor in Brighton and on this occasion we came away disappointed and underwhelmed. We visited at 5pm on a Saturday and the place was relatively quiet. Our server was a young man who had lost the ability to smile (maybe he was just “deep”?). We asked if they served non alcoholic beer and he didn’t know, he seemed affronted to have to ask at the bar which was 3 feet away. They do serve non alcoholic beer - FreeDam - but they’d already run out. Sigh. The food was okay, but since MeatLiqour arrived on the scene a number of rivals have surpassed it (check out The Woods in Worthing for an incredible Burger experience). This place seems to rely on the same old menu and some wacky wallpaper and great (really great) loud music to keep going. After a standard Dead Hippy, Satan’s Fingers and kid’s Hot Dog we went for the signature pudding of Filth Pie - guess what??? Yup, they’d run out!!!! God knows what they were gonna serve customers in the busy Saturday night slot. Someone really needs to get a grip with their ordering processes. All in all pretty “meh” and we felt like as a family with a dog we weren’t really wanted there. One pleasant server asked if we’d like a water bowl for our dog - nice touch - would’ve been even nicer if she’d actually remembered to bring it at any point!!! Don’t get me started on the discretionary service charge that they add automatically. 10 yrs ago we had some great times in this place when it was the new kid on the block but adly time has not treated the restaurant, nor its customers, with kindness.

We called in on the off chance, not really knowing much about this place. It surpassed all our expectations. There was so much choice on the menu both for food and drinks. Our burgers came quickly, were super-tasty and were really generous portions. The beers were interesting and the cocktails were amazing. The service was very efficient, our food and drink came in no time. The waiting staff were also very friendly. We will go back.

Place looks amazing on the inside. The food itself was ok. Looking at the insta pics I assumed the burgers would be a lil bigger. Food was alright though. Nothing amazing but still good. Wouldn’t personally go again but nice to go once just for the decor.

This is the third Meat Liquor we have been to and it was just as good as the others (if not the best). I had the Green Chilli burger and my husband had the Bacon Cheeseburger both were delicious. Our favourite burger place by a mile. The drinks were really good too I had a St Margaret and my husband had a Mojito.

We stopped here with a few friends for food one night as walk ins. The food was delicious but we weren’t too keen that the whole tables burgers were served on one tray and you had to put it on plates yourself. The staff were nice and the food was delivered quickly. Decoration inside is nice however it is dark inside so it can make the menu hard to read. Overall was great and would return again.

First ever visit to a Meat Liquor. Never heard of it before tbh but one of our group suggested we go after the races. Nice vibe in there, friendly and attentive staff. Food was great, there are cheaper places to go for a burger but the quality here is top notch. Really good food.

Decent food, had a burger. Burger patty was nothing special but good taste and classic American mouthfeel. Drinks extremely overpriced and underwhelming. The pricey Espresso Martini tasted like vodka and sour milk and came in a tiny glass.

we were a party of 9 out for a good meal for a 50th birthday. well here goes..... 5 meals got sent back because they were cold, they had been sitting under the lights whilst the other meals were being cooked. They did cook all the 5 meals again for us but by the time they were cooked from fresh we had lost our appetite and the rest of the party had finished their meals. I would like to say thank you to manager and she was very apologetic. I cant see myself ever returning to one of their restaurants again. Not a great experience .

I was quite surprised when we arrived as it was not what I was expecting (I had more of an american diner image in mind). The atmosphere was good, if a bit loud for dinner. Food was excellent, everyone enjoyed it, even though I only had a plain burger it was good quality and very tasty. Would definitely eat here again.

This is our fourth MEATliquor we have visited. A little slow being served, even though it wasn't overly busy. The food and wait times were good as always. The man who gave us our bill was very pleasant.

My Fiancé and I visit every time we come down to Brighton from London! I’m sure they used to do standard hot dogs but now only have the Chilli dogs on the menu so changed my order up with a burger!! Very yummy, drinks are good. Waiters/waitresses friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to come back again!

Arrive for a table booked at 8:30 pm however was greeted by the front of house staff she was very rude/ abrupt and said that we did not have a booking, explain that we phoned up and booked a table just over two weeks ago and I explained to the male staff member over the phone that wear a group of 10 and we could be split over two tables which was agreed. However On arrival before I could even explain any of this was just told we didn’t have a booking before the even confirmed any of my details. When I did try to explain the above staff member was very rude, abrupt, stand offish, un apologetic for booking error on the restaurants behalf. Not sure if they’re being Judge mental due to us being in hen party outfit however unnecessary rudeness from the front of house staff member when we had phoned and booked a table which they denied. However the food was brilliant big portions. Recommend booking online not over the phone. Would hate for anyone to have to experience disappointment like we did.

To start with the positives, the decor is funky and it's a nice casual place to get a bite to eat. Unfortunately, for us, that was where it ended - the food was average. The main issue was they had seemingly run out of most drinks so ordering a drink was very challenging as the response 9 times out of 10 was "we had a really big weekend so have run out of that!" - no gin at all, no cocktail, the wine we ordered was the last bottle they had and randomly someone had had a glass out of it already - they did give us 10% off that though which was something. It was a bit odd that the staff made no apology for their ridiculously low stock or attempted to suggest any alternative options. Seems very strange there wouldn't be a restock of drinks after a weekend - and if there is an issue, at least be upfront about it and apologise rather than when we try to order something saying "oh I don't think we have that, it's been a big weekend!" (yes seriously, heard that so many times both at our table and others!!)It was also a bit bizarre that when my fiance happened to mention in passing that it was his birthday, the waitress didn't acknowledge it at all, just said "oh" - wishing someone "happy birthday" costs nothing (we weren't trying to get a freebie or anything, it genuinely was his birthday!)

I ordered from deliveroo the food came hot and it was very enjoyable the burger was very good and so was the salted caramel milkshake the only thing was the brownies are very small but tasted very good but could be bigger overall I would recommend meat liquor and I would visit again

Swimming in juice in the box which was disgusting. Totally inedible as a burger!What made this worst is that you didnt read the instructions with our order so came incorrect which was insult to injury.For a bacon double cheeseburger where is the cheese?? None to be found in amongst the driest most overcooked meat patties have ever had the misfortune to be served.The milkshake lol.£5 for that is criminal. Could forgive the small cup we received if you guys had bothered to actually mix a shake instead of serving up semi frozen slush. Literally no better than a mcds shake. Went in the bin! Gave you guys a chance but with the competition out there (try Joe's for a authentic experience or if after the American style shake shack is very good) you shouldn't be falling this far behind. Meat liquor used to be SO good what has happened?! Getting 2 stars for the sides and that's generous.

We visited Meat Liquor in December as a group of 3 friends before the lockdown restrictions tightened and had the best time. We booked in advance and used the track and trace app before entering. There were also plenty of opportunities to sanitize and social distancing rules were in place so it was very safe. The restaurant is decorated with such an edgy feel, its very cool and unique. There is a lot to choose from on their menu (and not just meat options believe it or not), we visited with a vegan friend and she was more than satisfied with the options. The food was absolutely delicious and the cocktails were even better. It had a great atmosphere, the waiters were really helpful and welcoming and the vibe was on point with good music. Uber have failed to deliver to us twice now. We have phoned and told the Brighton restaurant both times. Chilling outside my house both times without knocking or alerting us that they are there. Meat liquor need to sort it. They are being scammed. We get a refund but no food. Everyone loses except the drivers who are onto a good thing

We have heard so many good reviews on this place and it lives up to its name, amazing service and atmosphere is great and the food was bloody brilliant was definitely a hit with us would definitely come back after COVID x

So disappointed with Meat Liquor tonight! Waited 15 mins for my click and collect (C&C)and get home and they forgot the sauce! Call up and all they can say is “Oh you can come back to collect it”... yeh I’ll just do that and pour it over freezing cold food! Onion rings weren’t up to usual standard either (usually huge but tonight just 4 average size onion rings... certainly not giant) Service is usually pretty good but tonight it was not!! Hopefully tonight isn’t a reflection of the new standard of service!

Really enjoyable meal. The clustercluck burger was very tasty as were the delicious onion rings. Kids meals were good size and service was was quick

Over the weekend my two friends and I had a reservation at ML Brighton and we had such a great time. I'd heard of this place before but never been myself so was curious to see what it was like. We had Kai as our waiter and what amazing service we recieved ! Initially we had gin and cucumber tonic, my friend thought her tonic was a little flat- but kai sorted it straight away and as of then the drinks were flowing as was the conversation. He was extremely attentive, always checking we was alright- Brilliant! The food was great too, thanks Meat Liquor... I'll be back

Pretty good food, portions sizes were good and the burgers were very nice however the green chilli butter was a lot hotter than expected haha but not a bad little place
