McMonnagles Fish Restaurant in Glasgow City

Food was absolutely vile. Staff are rude and ignorant. Prices are too expensive. The interior of the ‘restaurant’ is tacky.

We went for an impromptu fish tea in the McMonagles boat . The most delicious fish &chips I have ever eaten by far. Crisp batter with big flakey fish steamed in the batter to perfection. Delicious chips , a pot of mushy peas and a jug of curry sauce. I had fish of the day and the portion was enormous. Staff are all lovely . Take time to read about the boat at your table , the owner will happily chat to you about their venture of having her built for them. Great wee place to eat

Visited 4th Jan for takeaway fish and chips, it's always amazing quality!!!! 😋👌, and today the same!!! Staff at counter lovely, polite and friendly, asked for a slice of lemon, absolutely no problem. Thankyou all. 😊

I come from Clydebank and used to take my mum and children here so after reading about the awards won I arranged lunch with a few "old" cronies. We had the "OAP Specials" with free tea and we were left in peace to talk all afternoon as we had a lot of reminiscing to do. Food was absolutely delicious and staff were lovely! If you are in the area this coming Monday 28th they are having a buy one get one free!!

OMG this place gas been nominated for awards? Who are they comparing it with? I would hate to eat from any other places if this place is considrered award winning This is the worst take away I have ever had. Chips undercooked , tastless had to put a bucket of salt on them to eat them, terrible! Even the dog wouldnt eat them. Fish ok ish. Mince pie was a scotch pie - sorry am i getting mixed up a mince pie is usually a mince beef pie? Big portions. Great batter. Well fried fish. We come here about twice a year to sit in. Brought a friend from Poland this time. He loved it. Service is fine but the food is excellent. Just a great treat.

My wife and daughter in law took the 3 kids for lunch only to end up in disappoint. The fish and chips were dried up and uneatable staff were non attentive and couldn’t be bothered, had to ask twice for the plates to be removed and the kids ice cream to come as they were getting bored by the amount of time they had to sit, the staff obviously don’t care about there jobs at the reputation of the restaurant

Wont be back they refused to do my fritters because they said theyr too busy... Tried called before going but phone was constantly engaged yet didnt ring once while was in the shop which is telling me they take the phone off the hookand got butt hurt because i cancelled the rest of my order because i couldnt get the fritters

Myself and partner decided to come here for our lunch. We sat in the restaurant upstairs, it’s a nice little place however could be renovated to create a cosy vibe. We are aware this is a fake ship. The food was nice we would rate it a 7/10. Our starter did get lost and we had to wait on it too.

im a regular visitor to mc monagles i eat upstairs main meals and snacks and suppers downstairs the food is always good the staff couldnt be more kinder helpful and since im in wheelchair the staff always rush over to open doors for me very kindly very friendly upstairs in resturant they make great soups and homemade steak pie is great as is other meals

If you want everything deep fired then here is place for you staff are boring never have a smile on their faces or get it delivered with an arrogant driver

Was dining in boat today first time in 12 yrs what lovely staff you have John so attentive to our needs and what can I say about the food was so fresh I had prawn cocktail then Apple pie and ice cream my pal had homemade broth and chicken tikka sandwiches with same sweet as myself what a difference having the lift make well chuffed will be back more regular thank you. good menu fish and chips for pensioners at great prices they now have an extension with a lift for wheelchairs .drink prices ok .and new furniture large outside area. and if you are in your care free carpark outside ok for breakfast .lunch and evening meals they also do home deliverys we have been going since it opened.

We went to the upstairs restaurant for a wee treat. We had haddock and chips £9.95 and scampi with chips £9.95 (Both these dishes would have been £7.85 if bought from the counter downstairs). The food was plentiful, fresh and hot but to be honest I wish we'd bought it from the counter downstairs and sat out the front at the picnic tables. I wasn't really impressed with the service, and the restaurant was loud and felt cramped. We didn't realise we had to pay at the till on the way out, rather than at the waitress serviced table, and feel this could have been pointed out to us rather than leaving us sitting waiting. I would definitely eat from here in future no problem, but I would not eat at the upstairs restaurant again. Why pay higher prices to be made feel uncomfortable when you can have the same great food cheaper downstairs?

Not good daughter I went in for fish supper carry out came home chips dry maybe reheats but not nice fish was pale colour it hard not great taste couldn't eat it which is disappointing because I have ate out of here many times it has been nice but give it a while I think then try again it's not cheap you want a decent fish supper not much to ask

5 of us paid a visit to this lovely Fish & Chip restaurant today at lunch time. The service was very good and professional, the fish and chips were the best I've tasted for years - freshly cooked, piping hot, lovely dry chips with no sign of grease and the haddock was tasty and exactly as it should be. No complaints other than the cups of tea which the waitress said were "free" (but in reality were included in the price) arrived as cups of hot water with a bowl of tea bags which had to be added at the table! A nonsense and none of us enjoyed the tea at all - think again McMonagles, you're spoiling the ship here.Otherwise it was lovely, the decor was "nostalgic" and, if we had wanted a sausage supper we'd have gone to a Sausage & Chip Restaurant.

I’ll start by saying the staff were good- no complaints there. Interior is like something from the 1950s , tired , old not great. The menu is rubbish. I genuinely thought I was going for a chippy but inside. There is no mention of anything in the menu that u would expect from a chippy like, sausage supper, black pudding supper etc.. it’s just like a normal menu with burger/ steak pie/ pizza. If you want a sausage supper u can ask but it’s not on the menu.For two adult meals , 2 kids meals and 2 diet cokes it cost us £30 . It’s not cheap. The food was fine. My advice, get a takeaway from downstairs and eat it in the car if you have to eat here. Otherwise - don’t bother.

The novelty of eating on a canal is fun and you are up off the road and water height. The service was great and the prices were good but no newspaper for your chips like old days but good fun for the kids.

We went there last Thursday as we were stuck in Clydebank waiting on car mot There was no fish ready so had to wait on it being cooked We just got one fish supper to carry out between us and sat outside on the benches to eat it the chips were not too bad we were given two large pieces of fish haddock apparently but not nice not fresh and not very good I was going to bin it but a seagull was sitting watching us so I put the fish supper on the ground 90% was left and next thing a flock of seagulls appeared so they enjoyed it while we went for something good to eat got a nice pizza

Just got food delivered. It was awful will never buy from here again. Fish was dried up and chips were tiny crumbs with loads of bad bits in them. Ordered 3 suppers lucky if we actually managed to get a full one out of it.

I mostly come to McGonagles for ice blasts but on a few occasions have had food, and even dined in, it is a fairly nice experience and the food is quite good although some prices can be a bit high, very nice and enjoy mostly every time!

Most of the waitresses were really nice accept for the one who served our table with the desserts. She literally flung them across the table. The meals we ordered were well presented. Unfortunately the chips were of substandard quality. Bits of black on most of them. Considering that this is a fish and chip restaurant it was very disappointing.

Es ist schon ok einen Stuhl weg zu nehmen um Rollstuhlfahrern Platz zu machen, aber die Art und Weise ist unmöglich gewesen! Eine Bedienung warf mir meine auf dem Stuhl platzierte Jacke zu, fast auf meinen Teller und nahm dann den Stuhl weg. Die zweite Bedienung entriss mir dann die Jacke und brachte diese inclusive Brieftasche, Portemonaie und Autoschlüssel irgendwo anders hin!Der Fisch und die Pommes sind in einer ordentlichen Qualität gewesen, wenn auch nicht herausragend! Daher also immerhin noch drei Punkte.

We popped in here hungry and cold after swimming for some dinner. Staff were lovely, food was hot, tasty and fresh and our young daughter especially loved the 'butter sandwiches and free ice cream with rainbow sprinkles'. I'm sure we will be returning soon for dinner on the boat !

I'd read some of the reviews here before I visited, and from the descriptions of supposedly rude staff I would say I definitely met them all - and none of them were remotely like the nasty people some others complain about. Efficient, welcoming, pleasant, helpful. So don't believe everything you read. I had fish and chips, which were piping hot and obviously just cooked, served in an attractive way and with a very short wait time, so full marks there as well. And the ambience is good. Folks, this is a fish and chip restaurant, it's not claiming to be a five star eatery, so judge it as what it is - which is an excellent example of its type. And good prices as well - where else can you get a fish supper for two, with bread and tea, and have change left from £20? Free parking right outside as well. I'll be back.

Popped in here for lunch on a day out with my nieces. Fish and chips was good and service was fine. Kids menu was good value with the kids getting a meal, drink and ice cream for £4.95.

We regularly visit hear to have our gluten free haddock and chips. The meal is freshly prepared and is accompanied by a cup of tea. Unfortunately, we cannot take advantage of the bread and butter also offered with this deal as it has gluten. We have asked for them to consider keeping a GLUTEN FREE loaf in their freezer for such occasions when customers require it but WITHOUT success. Many places do this now and just take out the number of slices required and toast them. It would make our meal deal complete and we would feel like all the other customers. McMonagles make a special point of telling prospective customers that they do Gluten Free by advertising this on a billboard outside.

The service was excellent very welcoming and friendly staff who seem very happy at there work especially the young girl who served us wish I got her name she was very chatty telling us she just got married 2 weeks ago. Walked in to be met with a snide look from everyone behind the counter as if I was a terrible inconvenience. Was ignored for at least 2-3 minutes whilst standing at the counter with no one else in the shop, whilst all the girls chatted amongst themselves, blatantly ignoring me. I was then asked “Have you been served then?” by one of the girls who was well aware I was waiting. Got given too much change to have it snatched back out my hand and a receipt shoved at me on the counter. Terrible customer service and mediocre food. Won’t be back.

I have to admit I am running out of words with which to compliment this establishment. I have been using this restaraunt for 10 years at least, and I have never been disappointed in a meal. It is true to say, while I have had fish teas in other places, and some were very good, none ever surpassed the Clydebank eating place for neither service nor quality of fish supper. I am sorry if I am just.repeating previous compliments, The reason for this review is, they are improving the facility to add a lift. this allow the less able to access the upper deck sitting in room.

Hadn't been into the boat for too long, decided on Lunch since we had no Children with us and we could just enjoy the peace. We were greeted by a very friendly smiling waitress who quickly took us to the front of the boat and gave us options on which table to sit. Tea and coffee delivered order for food taken , we opted for Haddock and fish Cakes, Absolute Gorgeous food and great portions, Work is being carried out at the moment but you would not know as the boat is spotless.
