We went to the a la carte indoor restaurant and we were not disappointed. Superb food and excellent service. We will definitely be going back!

My first visit to this restaurant was to treat my best friend and I was pleased that she was impressed. The food was 1st class and proper a la carte (small portions but amazing flavours). This place might not be everyone's cup of tea, unless you have deep pockets, as it was London prices in Chatham Medway of all places. I was disappointed with the 12.5% discretionary service charge that was added to the bill as it "technically" is not discretionary unless you refuse to pay it. So no need to leave a tip as they take one anyway. Not sure if it will be a regular place for me to visit, maybe once in a blue moon will all I will be able to afford.

Me and friend ordered Tapas and drinks and sat by the terrace. The quality of the food is great and done to high standard. The service is lovely and the atmosphere is relaxed and chilled. It is a little pricey for Medway, however the prices they charge are definitely worth it.Would definitely recommend!

We had a lovely lunch here to celebrate my birthday. The location is fantastic and the food was very good. My steak was slightly overcooked but they knocked some money off the bill, which was a nice touch. The lunch menu was good value, but some of the items required a supplement to be paid, so watch out for that. On our way in they asked if it was a special occasion so it was a nice touch when a plate turned up at the end with 'Happy Birthday' on it with some small cakes. Overall a great experience and we will be back.

We popped in to see if we could have drinks outside with our dog - which they said we were allowed to, we made our way round, sat down & a waitress came out with a dog bowl of water, we gave our drinks order. Lovely drinks, lovely views, brilliant music playing, an absolute find of a place. A stunning building. Weve booked a table for dinner for a few wks time. The only thing i would say is - open the doors!! it is a tad uninviting on first look, weve walked past several times, peeped through the windows, we were almost scared to go in!! there is nothing outside to indicate what this place actually is. But it is lovey !!1

We had a lovely lunch here. The location is fantastic and the food is on point. There was a slight mix up with our main courses but the staff dealt with it very professionally and knocked a couple of things off the bill, which was a nice touch. The lunch menu was good value, although two of the four mains choices required a supplement to be paid, so if you wanted to stick to the standard price your options would be a little bit limited. It would also be great to see more English wine on the menu (other than sparkling), given how much good stuff there is locally.Overall a great experience and an excellent addition to the area.

A great local find right on our doorstep. The quality of food, surroundings and service is well deserving of the price point.Of course there is cheaper places locally but not that provide the same standard of food and ambiance. We visited for a Sunday lunch, and for two courses with a bottle of wine it was £100 for two of us, I felt this was great value for what we had.Highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or just a great Sunday lunch!, we will be back again soon.

Went on the gin distillery tour which was superb and would highly recommend. Excellent knowledge and plenty of samples to try plus a free Gin and tonic afterwards. We stayed on for the tapas afterwards, the food was tasty however the portions were ridiculously small and expensive, 70 quid for the two of us for 4 tapas plates and the cheese board (4 small pieces of cheese), we could only afford one pint of beer each and at £6.50 a pint it was London prices in Medway. Service was excellent however it should be as they add a 12.5% service charge to your bill without mentioning it.Had to buy a kebab on way home I was so hungry, would recommend but expect it to be expensive and leave you hungry afterwards, only the wealthy will be getting drunk there at the bar prices.

Loved the Pumproom when it was a deli-type restaurant with a variety of dishes and salads. Still great setting and views. Now a la carte and although quality of lunch was lovely it seemed over-priced and very tiny. Lunch menu was quite limited choice and although supposedly a set price half of the items had a supplementary fee of up to £8.50 a dis. Dessert of honey sponge and cherries consisted of a piece of sponge 1 inch by 2 inch and 1 cherry cut in half. Sorry to give negative review but was disappointed compared to last visit pre-lockdown which we absolutely loved.

I cannot believe this restaurant is on my doorstop - amazing!!! Went to the Pumproom on a rare date night with my husband and we were blown away by all aspects of the Pumproom. We sat on the stunning terrace which is heated and beautifully dressed. Impressive to give such ambience to an outdoor space. We had 3 amazing courses and as embarrassing this is to admit, I nearly burst into tears with my first mouthful of my starter (scallops with smoked trout and tomato miso broth). A really good wine list with a good choice across all price points was nice to see.The staff seemed really well trained and pitched their attentiveness well.Really pleased that such a lovely dining experience has opened up in such an interesting space. We spent around £170 for the 2 of us which was an expensive night out but I would still say that it is good value for the level of dining, care and attention given. We've recommended to all family and friends who will listen! The only bit of feedback I would offer is that they allow just drinks on the riverside area which inevitably attracts smoking. I think this is a real own goal when you're serving food as delicious as this to risk it being ruined by smoke!

Firstly, the building and setting are truly amazing, the terrace overlooking the river just glorious and the staff generally outstanding. You must remember this is fine dining, so the food quality is paramount above large portions, and the quality was evident. We had the 3 course set lunch, £28.00, and the presentation, service and quality were very good, lamb melts in your mouth. My colleague and I both work in the City , and this would certainly match any of the offerings there , but for Kent, slightly overpriced.I really don’t like the hidden, 12.5% discretionary service charge , which is another way to charge more for your meal, and who benefits from this?Another gripe was when attending to the bill ( I did not have my glasses so missed this discretionary charge until I got home), I asked the waitress was servive included and was told no, so I gave her £10 cash. Probably as a percentage of the bill , the two combined was the largest tip I have given anywhere in the world! The view is stunning, quality of food is very good, would I return , possibly, but not in a rush.

Our table of six was perfectly placed to admire views of the waterside at Chatham docks and Upnor Castle and also the contemporary industrial architecture of the pump house, which also hosts the Copper Rivet Distillery.Maybe because we’ve been locked up for so long, and yearning for something to kick start our tastebuds, I have to say the food was stunning. Wait until you see what they do with the humble carrot- you will be blown away!! Tender rib eye to follow was soft succulent and perfectly cooked, friends had sea bass and lamb rump, both with a Middle Eastern twist, and were equally enthusiastic Although we were very satisfied and full, we couldn’t resist the lemon posset with caramelised chocolate ( think caramac bars) Light, yet creamy with just enough tartness. A perfect end to a perfect meal !The staff were friendly and efficient making for a very relaxed ambience. We were even given a sample of the hand sanitiser made in the distillery! High quality food like this comes with an upper price range but well worth it Approx £60 per person

Last night I dined with friends at the beautifully renovated Pumphouse Restaurant, which is just round the corner from me, after the dreary hiatus of the lockdown months. Because I tend to live to eat, I deliberately ate less during the day, to make more room for the delicacies I was expecting.I am aware that food is a subjective matter and that in many ways, I, as a peevish (though somewhat gourmet) vegan, am offering an opinion that may not be shared by the carnivorous majority. But often, I find that establishments that fulfil the requirements of people on the culinary margins, excel in all other categories too.Early on I decided to pig out by going for a full 3 course meal. I needn't have worried about feeling stuffed, however, as the portion sizes were pretty small. In fact, I was awoken by a ravenous hunger this morning, and had to make a nutritionally balanced vegan shake to make up for the deficit of protein from the night before. When I weighed myself, I discovered, to my surprise, that I had actually lost a few pounds despite having eaten out the night before. It was an unexpected benefit of the £35 I had spent 9 which didn't include wine). After olive nibbles (because my friends were driving they didn't order any wine so I followed suit), I ordered a starter of thick vegetable dipping paste with good depth of flavour from marsala and undertones of whiskey, enlivened by something pickled, and accompanied with sourdough bread. It was nicely presented with leaves and petals, but underwhelming and very small in size. The thing about small portions is they have to be very, very good, so that you feel like lingering and savouring each little bite. One of my friends ordered a bizarre starter of baby corn with popcorn in a lightly spiced sauce, whose main virtue was it's alliterative novelty. At this point in the meal, not all was lost. A really delicious main course would have won the day. Sadly, the main dish, of potato wedges, something pickled again and little bits of cep mushroom would have been pleasant enough as a tasty side dish. But it had no star protein ingredient, like the sea bass that my meat eating friends ordered which came with a nice smelling jus and what I assumed was a dollop of pea puree. Even on a basic level, the vegan meal was nutritionally deficient. It was a meal developed by carnivores for vegans, circa 1990, and hence, unsatisfying. The other person in my party who had ordered the vegan option reported similar misgivings.Given we are in 2021, this is a little bit backward. The idea that vegan options should be relegated to worthy, second rate extras is of course, discriminatory, but more than that, as a restauranteur, one should take pride in every item on the menu, down the the last grape and olive. It makes sense to have excellent vegan options too on a purely business level, given the rising number of vegans. It is the right of restaurants to have whatever they want on their menus, but given that they did have vegan items that people pay for, they should be every bit as tasty as the carnivorous options on the menu. A vegan £ is worth as much as a carnivorous £ after all.Anyway, after this, it was mainly the delightful company of my friends that kept the evening going for me. I ordered a dessert of dense chocolate cremeux with contrasting seared orange and nutty biscuitty bits, more due to hunger than anything. It turned out to be the best part of the whole meal. I have to say that this was quite a disappointing culinary experience for me. Doubly disappointing as I had been looking forward to having a restaurant on my doorstep that I could take visitors to, which looks gorgeous and has real character and history, and a great river location. Staff are welcoming, polite and professional and service was prompt and discreet.I can only hope that the menu evolves to fulfil the expectations created by the aesthetic beauty of the building it is served in. If it does - and I believe it could - then it could become a truly exceptional addition to the attractions of my local area.

We thought that the restaurant facilities were superb, excellent service and the quality of the food second to none, almost to Michelin standard. However when receiving the bill after being quoted £23 for a 2 course meal plus drinks etc we were astonished to see a figure of £188 for the four of us.If you wanted rib eye steak it was £8.50 extra if you wanted french fries it was £4 extra if you wanted broccoli it was £4 extra and so on. Plus a discretionary %12.5 service charge. So expecting a bill of £92 plus addons for drinks and coffees we were presented with one for £188.We felt that it would be more open to include the supplements as part of the meal price. We are all aware of the real price of steak and lemon sole so why not show them.Overall we thought the experience was excellent but would like their management to be more open about the costs

By far the best meal I’ve had in a long time and the best I’ve had anywhere in Kent. I think our picture perfect terrace setting looking on the sunset over the river Medway to Upnor castle helped, but the service was fantastic, cocktails immense and food simply incredible. The best steak I’ve ever had, I highly recommend the bone marrow starter and whilst they’d run out of the dessert we wanted (we were the last in the restaurant!) the next choice, the strawberry choux bun was incredible. And to top it all off, they told us that we’d waited too long for our main so they gave it to us for free…. We were having such a lovely evening we really hadn’t minded, but I wasn’t going to miss out on a free course(!). That they did that was the perfect cherry on a fantastic cake. It was so good, we’ve booked our next visit in the taxi on the way home! Thank you The Pump Room!

Very excited to try this restaurant as we had previously popped in for a drink and both liked the decor and the look of the restaurant menu.I think what struck both of us after having a meal here was that it cost exactly the same as a similer meal at a highly renowned Michelin listed restaurant we also visit in Kent. It was really hard then not to make comparisons...The observations we shared were that here there were no complimentary 'amuse-bouche' etc, the service was perfectly fine but not quite as polished and the food descriptions on the menu were a bit overly flamboyant but not particularly helpful. Example; a main course of lamb turned out to be ultra rare, yet this wasn't described on the menu or mentioned by the waiting staff.. It was borderline for my partner who's firmly in the 'medium rare' camp and so we wondered how the 'well done' fans would cope. The biggie for us though was that in comparison the portions were quite small. Example; scallops in a starter most often run to three per plate but here for a high price point it was just two and they were not particularly big ones either. No complaints about the quality at all, clearly a very talented chef tucked away here... interesting food combinations and great flavours.... we would definitely both say this aligned with the fine dining expectations the menu and prices allude to.With a bit more on the plate and a few finishing touches we think this restaurant could easily compete with others in the fairly elite range they are aiming for but currently they don't offer the best value for money within that range.

From start to finish, our experience at The Pumproom was exemplary. From the incredibly welcoming staff to the delicious and well-presented food, it was hard to find fault. The monkfish and saddle of lamb mains were both superb and the chocolate bullion bar dessert was a suitably decadent treat to finish! The general ambience and layout of the restaurant should also be complimented under the current restrictions. Having visited the Pumproom many times pre-Covid, we have been waiting for it to reopen and were so pleased that we were able to visit this week. There is a spacious terrace overlooking the river, with tables spaced safely apart, wall heaters and even blankets on the back of each chair in case you feel a chill. The many staff were all polite, friendly and helpful and the Manager was particularly good and very concerned to ensure that the customers were happy with their food and the whole experience. As a vegan I was very impressed to see that there is a separate vegan menu which has a good choice of starters, main courses, sides and deserts and the main course I chose (Leek and Wild Mushroom Pasty) and the desert (Dark Chocolate Cremeaux) were, not only beautifully presented, but absolutely delicious, My dining partner was a meat eater and was also extremely happy with the saddle of lamb and his side of "skin-on fries". Service was very slightly slow when waiting for the main course but I suspect that may have been slight teething problems on the first day of opening and the fact that all dishes were freshly cooked. It was certainly worth waiting for though and we were able to have a leisurely coffee and pot of tea afterwards without ever feeling rushed by the staff. I have already recommended to several people and will definitely be returning to work my way through the menu!

Also, no phone number to book and the email on the website was incorrect, I had to phone the distillery to get a current email (hello@crdpumproom.com).This is literally a lunch/brunch menu and doesn't pretend to be anything else so no fish and chips but good sandwiches, soups, quiche and various egg brunch dishes. Help yourself water urns. You have to go to the desk to order and pay, food is freshly cooked and service is professional and quick. The location is a refurbished industrial building, the car park is by the distillery and you have to walk down the side to find the cafe entrance (no sign posts to the entrance).

I’ve visited McGuire’s now several times. In terms of the main strengths, it’s a pleasant enough dining environment with nice views over the River Medway (if you sit near the window or outside). The food and drink is acceptable for the price, with a good range of options on the menu. The inclusion of specials and food from the deli counter is also a positive addition. As for the issues which I think need to be addressed: The process of paying is painfully slow, mainly because customers are allowed to stand dithering making their selections whilst others wait in the queue. You’ll also have to get your own cutlery, oil, salt, pepper, vinegar, napkins and sugar as this is never put out on the tables (a little odd!). Service is sometimes slow, painfully so if the kitchen is busy and I’ve seen the impact this has on customer service. And finally I am unsure as to why raw onion is added to so many dishes as a garnish when it’s so overpowering. Maybe I’ll visit again in 2020.

We have visited McGuire’s on several occasions since you opened and have had great service and lovely local food and drink , we belong to the marina as it is so convenient to take friends and family there - we have been watching the progress of the outside seating area facing the river with excitement and anticipation and finally it opened in June . It was a lovely sunny late morning and we arranged to meet some friends with their dog there so we went onto the lovely spacious area to have some lunch and wine but was told we can’t have food outside ! We were so disappointed we were told something like it’s because of seagulls stealing food, they don’t seem to steal it from the front of the building ! We would be interested to know if this is true or a licensing restriction . We recently visited Ramsgate to the new Royal Victoria Pavillon, it was absolutely heaving on their terrace with people enjoying food and the sunshine. Seagulls were swooping down at every opportunity and it did not deter anyone and was really quite entertaining. I don’t think you have nearly the same volume of bird life at Ramsgate but feel this restriction would deter visitors from appreciating the great position and facility McGuire’s have at Chatham.

My friend and I visited for lunch as was recommended to us, we were after something a little bit different and we were not disappointed. Firstly the building is unique, followed by a menu which is just perfect for lunch. The tables are nicely spaced out and the whole atmosphere very relaxed. Would definitely recommend to others and will be back to try some of the lovely looking cakes.

McGuires is both a delicatessen and a cafe. Interesting lunches are available for reasonable prices and the ambience, set in a restored historic building, is good. There might be competition for seats on a busy day.

My friend and I heard good things about this deli from others who had visited here and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent, service was swift, all the staff was very chatty and helpful. You are allowed to bring your dog in which is a massive bonus, especially if you have been for a walk round the island and are looking for a somewhere for a cuppa and sit down. The building itself is beautiful and maintains a lot of original features. The views across the Medway are fab, if they put tables outside would be excellent on a hot day. Defiantly well worth a visit. We will be back.

A large group of us ate here before taking a tour of The Copper Rivet distillery. It was very conveniently situated but otherwise I was not impressed. We could have got a better lunch at one of the restaurants at the nearby Docklands Outlet Centre. The food was all right but not specially good or particularly cheap. Irritatingly, they refused to do separate bills and because there were more than ten of us they added 10% to the bill.

I took an elderly friend of mine for lunch. My friend finds steps hard to climb so it was good to be able to sit on the lower part of the building. She was really impressed with our ploughman sandwich. It was really well filled and delicious. The staff are friendly and helpful. The building is interesting and there are lots of bits and pieces you can purchase.

The ambience is pleasant, being the old pump house of the Naval Dockyard. There is a small deli and open seating in this airy building. However, when we went to choose one of the remaining tables, some-one was sitting next to it with a huge dog... I am not a fan of sharing my meal with pets in proximity. We moved to the lower level towards the front, to have our lunch, and then a couple came in and sat next to us with their dog! I suggest McGuire's have a dog-free area, so that those of us who are not massive fans of walking the dog and stopping for lunch along the way, can avoid the hair, panting, whining and begging. The food is fine.

Came here for brunch on a Sunday morning and was pleasantly surprised. The café has an open plan for seating which was very inviting. Service was pleasant and food and drinks were served very quickly. Food was delicious. I liked the fact they had little snippets of machinery dotted around the place as it's next door to the gin distillery. And alongside the café it has a little area to buy unique food and house items. Great places for couples and family outings.

We visited for a family birthday light lunch last week. Its a lovely setting, although in summer it would be far more enjoyable as it is on the river in the heart of The Historic Dockyard. There are electric wall heaters installed, but I would suggest come dressed for the occasion at this time of the year, and soak up the atmosphere of such unique surroundings.

I’ve been here a few times because the venue is so lovely. However I’ve not been overwhelmed by the food. My mum has the minestrone soup and she felt it was bland, the veg was not cooked enough and it had too much macaroni in it. I had a Brie and grape sandwich - tasty and simple. The cheese twist looks better than it tastes. Previously I had a panini but that was quite basic with very little filling. I will go again and give it another try just because the building is so lovely.

We were not in a hurry so spent a couple of hours here, and it gradually got very busy but you can reserve a table. We ordered the Kent Cheese board which was quite magnificent in presentation and in taste, and the Honey Roast Ham and Cheese Salad, which was equally tasty, We had drinks that you choose yourself from a great selection on display and then had coffees. You also go up to order and pay at the counter, but the food is brought to your table.Would definitely visit again and have recommended this to family and friends.

McGuire's is a friendly café in a fascinating building. Varied menu; order at the counter and meals are served at your table. Relaxed atmosphere and very good food. You can come in for coffee or a cold drink, or have delicious meal from an interesting menu that is a cut above the ordinary (several cuts, depending what you choose). I had a mozzarella, tomato and pesto panini which was delicious and filling. One in the party had the Kent Ploughman's Board which several could pick from; others had quiches, and mushrooms and Gorgonzola with a poached egg. All thought their meals were delicious. After visiting the distillery next door, several of us returned for coffee and cake. Staff were equally welcoming and friendly. Meals with a soft drink were c. £11.00 each, making this very good value in a great space.

Lovely setting, ambience and food. Such a shame the staff delivering the food from the kitchen are so stressed and obviously not happy “ you’ll have to go to the counter, we’re the kitchen” - some of it caused by customers of course, but it did just spoil an otherwise lovely experience. Perhaps ask them why it’s not working?

Lots of sandwiches, paninis and salads, cakes etc etc. We had a quiche and a sausage egg both with salad and coleslaw, all excellent and good to see so much being sourced from Kent as well, including beers, ciders, wines and fizz.
