McGuffies in Liverpool

Cosy little bar on Castle Street. Hugely popular, but as it is tiny it is a challenge to get in at busy times. Best in the summer when you can sit outside and people watch. Decently priced beer in schooners but wine very expensive. Would recommend getting the menu to check as we didn't and paid £38 for a bottle of, admittedly, good white wine! Lesson learned.

This is a very cosy little bar on Castle street. I believe it used to be a pharmacy for many years and they took over the name with little links in the display window to its previous history. It's mainly cocktails and wine with a small selection of beers. There's comfortable seating inside and outside seating for when the weather's a bit better.

Great little bar in the city centre! Staff are fantastic and very welcoming and drinks are fantastic, in particular the Castellan 10 and Banana Old Fashioned. Popped in before dinner and again after for more. Can’t wait to return!

I went this afternoon for the first time and ordered an Old Fashioned. Best I've had! The 2 girls working today were so welcoming and friendly and I will definitely be going back! I sat outside and watched the world go by and it was just bliss! Thank you for the lovely hospitality!

Let's have it right. This is Liverpool city centre. It's NOT Los Angeles or Las Vegas, nor is it London. I bought two drinks. A small glass of red Malbec. (they had no Merlot) 175 ml. Priced at £9.80 !!! Half a pint of lager £4.10 !!! Totalling £13.90 !!! I asked the bloke behind the bar was he serious. He was !!! I told him I'd reluctantly pay because I was with other people who were sitting outside. Presumably needing time to recover from whatever rip off prices they had paid for their drinks as they sat on the 'cosmopolitan' wooden seats on the pavement that were provided. I told the bloke behind the bar (the manager) that I would never go there again. And i won't. Over-priced is an understatement. I only gave it a one star rating because there wasn't a zero star option.

No food, but a delicious cocktail bar. Not cheap, but deliciously made.

Loverly afternoon spent with my wife, just chatting, listening to the background music & watching the world go by, staff were great & the drinks what a choice, we'll be back, new favourite place in town. 🤗

Beautiful little place on the heart of Castle Street. Wonderful cocktails with a small range of draught beers available. Wonderful place for people watching via the big plate glass windows, else a wonderful place to sit back, chill and enjoy the beer and company.

Popped in here on Saturday with hubby , got 2 Pina coladas , The ice was put in glasses 1st then 1 shaker for 2 cocktails , when it was poured in it didn't fill glasses , so glasses were topped up with more ice , 2 mouthfuls and drink was gone , always thought 1 shaker per cocktail that's what they do in other cocktail bars , cost £10 each , which we don't mind paying if the measures are good , we will not be returning

We actually went to MiTo which apparently is owned by the McGuffie and Co. The Australian barman was knowledgeable of the drinks and very friendly. Would recommend visiting this bar.

Served my Matt, his cherry VII cocktail was amazing, I was a little worried about the egg but it tasted amazing regardless, really good atmosphere and excellent service

Beautiful, tiny, intimate bar with a fantastic menu with sections from different eras, details about the cocktails, and when they were invented. Also some with some McGuffie twists. Our mixologist was Mudiwa and he made the most magical drinks! Will recommend to everyone. Cocktails are all very reasonably priced, most between £8 and £10.

Nice cocktail bar with a great selection of drinks. We popped in on a Monday night and it wasn’t too busy. The drinks menu is great and gives some handy insights into the different cocktails and their history. Service could have been a little better. It wasn’t clear how we ordered the drinks and then we ended up fetching them from the bar ourselves. The drinks were good and the place has a good vibe to it.

I really don't want to write this review as this is a bit of a hidden gem in Liverpool. It's a small venue inside with space outside in the right weather. The staff are chilled and friendly as well as very knowledgeable. It has a wide selection of of spirits. It's doesn't do pints which isn't a bad thing. It has a relax atmosphere with good chilled music played in the background

Me and my partner are regular customers to this cocktail bar and are usually very impressed but we went in on Wednesday 12th July for a few drinks in the evening when we were given half full cocktails when we questioned this we were told by two members of staff that this was the way the cocktail was we are familiar with these drinks having been going to this place for sometime and we have never had a cocktail like this. I then said that as a customer I was not happy and that the customer is right when a member of staff with a scar in his eyebrow responded very rudely telling me not always right I was utterly shocked at the service we were provided I work in customer service and I would never speak to a customer like this I do not think we will be returning based on our experience

As perfect a place for cocktails as can be imagined. The staff know how to make a fantastic cocktail. A treasure for any refined imbiber. Sublime sound track too as exactly the right volume. Five Stars from me👍👍

Great bar with a chilled atmosphere

Great intimate atmosphere with cocktails and light alternative music. Delicious dirty martinis and Scotch. The bartenders were extremely friendly and chill.

I always enjoy going here, one of the best places I’ve had cocktails. Cosy on the inside. Staff are always so friendly to help, with a few times having a member of staff create a personal cocktail for me - going above and Beyond. On my last visit I just had a hot chocolate - that in itself is just worth the visit!

Best little (not so secret) hideaway in Liverpool. Excellent cocktails, always a good standard and worth the wait for a table.

Reasonably priced & a good choice of original cocktails. The bartenders are really nice & happy to make off-menu classics. I had a lovely diplomático daiquiri which only cost £9.40!

Love this bar. However there is a gentleman who works there of eastern persuasion, who is definitely the opposite of friendly whenever I pop in. No manners. Shame. If you are dark/Afro, avoid if he is working as he really does not like the presence of brothers. Otherwise, a lovely little gem in the city.

It might be small but has a big heart. A big selection of beers and spirits and friendly helpful staff.

The bar staff was reluctant to issue a receipt and McGuffie do not respond to messages sent requesting rectification.

Enjoyed going to this bar, sitting at outside tables with pleasant serving staff (makes a big difference!). The male waiter was especially good explaining the lagers / drinks on offer.

Went to McGuffies on Saturday and I wasn’t disappointed, had a couple of beers and a perfectly executed Old Fashioned made by Dom a true master of his craft, the atmosphere was amazing and balanced with a great music playlist, I will definitely return!

First stay in Liverpool and needed a good cocktail bar. Found McGuffies and loved it. Staff were really welcoming and never too busy to have a chat. Even got talking to the batman about his favourite cocktails (which we then ordered). Prices are what you'd expect for city centre cocktails. Highly recommend popping in for a few if you're nearby.

The bartenders (mixologists?) here really know their craft as the cocktails are so extremely well made you can taste the care and precision that goes into them with every sip. Also, the cocktail list is not your run-of-the-mill menu either. I highly recommend, 'The Watchman' a delicious take on the espresso martini, or if you're feeling really adventurous try a 'Valium No.2' with its immaculate fusing of zubrowka and absynth. You won't be disappointed.

Friendly staff, smiling, gentle. Sparkling atmosphere on Friday and Saturday night, perfect as post-dinner or pre-disco. Often I found nice girls both within staff and customers, which is very important, I believe. Good choice of cocktails and various beers and spirits. I'm not very much into cocktails but many friends of mine like it, especially gin-tonic, of course. Location is one of the best in Liverpool: Castle Street.

Quirky bar with a vintage feel. Lovely decor in keeping with the bars feel and decor. Staff excellent. Friendly and welcoming. I had the grasshopper cocktail which I had never tired before. It was so enjoyable. The bar is itself is small but that adds to the intimate ambience. Very romantic, nicely lit. Loved it. Fully recommended.

Love this little gem of a place, meeting place, end of night place or just pop in and chill place. Great selection of beers, whisky and cocktails. Espresso Martinis are the best in the city.

This is without a doubt the best Indian food I've ever had. I'm from the Atlanta, GA area of the world, so we don't have a lot of good Indian restaurants around, so I'm always happy when I come to the UK, because Indian restaurants abound. I've eaten my fair share around London, but I can say that The Raj is by far favorite thus far.
