The menu here and the quality of food showed such an improvement over previous visits a few years ago. Most offerings are with chips which suits the location and the clientele perfectly! But coffee and a variety of scones were also on offer. Service was quick and the staff were all so pleasant. Despite being busy, they still had time for a quick chat with everyone. Noticed increased seating now, You’ll not find a better view as you sit looking out onto Church Bay with your generous portions of burger or fish and chips!

With little or no competition in the off-season, this bar will always get customers. And I guess since most customers rarely ever return to the island, they don’t really care what people think. I only wanted a cup of tea and a bit of cake, so I went to the café rather than the bar. The lady behind the counter was pleasant enough but barely did little more than take my money (she handed me a paper cup and pointed to where I could make my own tea). To be fair, she did manage to put a stale scone on a paper plate along with little plastic pots of Flora and jam. Both the inside and the outside of this place looks so tired and unkempt; I’d love to think that, as it begins to get busier, they will put in more of an effort, but I would not bet on it.

As we approached Rathlin Island on the ferry, the first thing I noticed was the roof of the bar which had the name 'McCuaigs Bar' painted in large letters. That gave me a giggle and I was well aware of where I'd be getting my pint! Lovely atmosphere and nice staff. They poured a great pint of guiness, to the other half's delight. We would go back for sure.

That is, the evening meal you would not otherwise find on the island. Enough variety in the menu and on tap as well as in bottles to satisfy and at a reasonable price compared to mainland though it has minimal competition (a hotel DR promising luxury) on the island at night. The rating would be "average" were it not for the location.

On our first day trip to Rathlin Island, we came across this bar and decided to have lunch. One of us had a starter which came fairly promptly. The waiter then cleared away the plate after which we waited and waited. A waitress came along later and remarked that the starters had been cleared and we said we were waiting for the mains. Then we waited and waited and waited. Almost an hour and a half after placing the order I went in to find out what was happening. The waiter enquired from the kitchen and told me they were just starting my vegetarian chilli. I said we had been waiting a really long time (there were very few people in the restaurant by this stage). He made more enquiries in the kitchen and said it wouldn't be very long. He was very helpful and apologetic for the delay. When it came the food itself was very tasty. My friend had gammon, pineapple and fried egg but there was no pineapple.

Rathlin Island is a spiritual home to our Historic Lifeboats and we have been welcomed there for many years and nowhere more than Mc Cuaig’s, who are great friends to the Lifeboats. Their consistent hospitality, kindness, food, sustenance and company has been the tonic for many a departure voyage of weeks, or months and a magnet for the return to home shores. Loved sitting outside eating and relaxing amongst friends and visitors. Catriona and her staff are doing an excellent job especially considering the many constraints she must experience on a daily basis, not knowing how many visitors are going to arrive, will the weather affect deliveries, how many demands will be made to accommodate the many diverse individuals that arrive?

As someone who has visited Mccuaigs bar on a weekly basis for a number of years I could not recommend it highly enough to anyone visiting Rathlin either if you are a family with young children or a group of people looking for a fun, friendly place to eat/drink. We have always been well accommodated for by the staff whether it has just been my husband and myself or the 2 of us and our 2 young children. The food is always tasty, the environment always family oriented and friendly and the atmosphere always welcoming and warm. I could not fault McCuaigs in any way and would highly recommend it for anyone young or old, with a family or on a night away with friends. It is the perfect spot for any occasion. The staff are very accommodating and friendly and willing to help in any way they can, all you have to do is ask and they will do their best to help. Considering this is a small pub in the heart of a small island community I think it offers its utmost to provide for islanders and visitors alike and offers a unique island experience that you would and could not experience in many other places in the world. Myself and my family will definitely be back and would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone visiting the island.

In fairness to the pub yes there was an extremely long wait, but it’s an island with one pub, filled with islanders and visitors all looking forward to pizza. If I had been on the mainland I would have complained and not waited as there is so much competition there. Here we enjoyed an extra couple of pints, relaxed enjoyed the views and when the pizza arrived it was worth the wait. Thanks for the hospitality

As the only watering hole on the Island McCuaig's is a bit of a focal point. The exterior is lacking in architectural style although the name on the roof is funky. In side the bar is traditional and well stocked but the large public areas are lacking in any cosiness. More like a church hall youth club than an Irish pub. Thanks for helping out hotel when Manor House kitchens went down, but food average, burgers burnt and the usual plastic frozen chips. Pool tables could do with repair as both broken. But on plus side the service could not be faulted and staff very attentive and keen to ensure all happy.

I think this may be the only bar on the island. We stopped for a drink while waiting for the ferry. It served the purpose. I didn't find it particularly clean (?think sticky tables!) A few tables outside opposite the harbour.

It smelt of cigarettes as you walked in, perhaps we had just missed someone smoking outside to be fair. The inside is even darker and less inviting than the outside. Some brighter more pleasant colours would make this place significantly more attractive. Take a leaf out of the Manor House's book and move into this century with your presentation, some American tourists looking for a time warp might like the surroundings but people willing to spend money generally expect a bit more.

Only bar on the island but still keen to please and very reasonable value for money.Beer was brewed locally and great flavours. I tired Fairhead Blonde and Rathlin Red, both went down too easy

This bar is located on a beautiful island just off the coast of North Antrim in an idyllic setting. It should be quaint and cozy but it's not. It looks and feels like a works canteen. While the staff is very accommodating and friendly the owners have made no effort to make the premises fit the environment. The food is very ordinary and also canteen-like; surely it would not be too onerous to slice a few potatoes to serve fresh chips or at least put butter or mayonnaise on the dry salad sandwiches! So much more could be made of this bar with minimal effort.

Clean but basic bar where we had to wait a long time for chips that were cold, undercooked and like cardboard. Such a shame, it could be such a nice place with a bit more effort.

Best chips in Workington. The service is quick, staff are always really friendly. This is a busy cafe because the food is fantastic. Lots of great food, great price - would highly recommend ☺️

We stayed here for 2 nights and I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The rooms are large, bright with some spectacular views and those special touches such as little toiletries for your use. The bath in our room was so opulent I could have stayed in there all evening. The dining area is quite niche you can have quiet discreet corners for a romantic evening or more open. The food is excellent- if I had 1 thing to say that was negative, it would be that I wouldn’t have a starter so I could have a dessert, I found each time I did I just didn’t have room to have one! The main thing for me was the staff. The staff quite simply made it for me. NOTHING was too much trouble, they were friendly, welcoming and went above and beyond , yet at the same time let us be. If you want somewhere, where you can be comfortable, away from it all and have excellent accommodation and food this is the place.

Sad to say that our trip there was a a big disappointment when it come to the food. We all had beef, it was dry and chewy. When we talked to the waiter, we have been told that is the way the chef does it. It is a shame that they only sell well done cuts of meat...

My friend and I called in here whilst in Wigton and had a bacon buttie and a barista butties both of which were delicious and cooked perfectly. I had a latte which was lovely and my friendcsaid her cappuccino was one if the vest she'd had. The staff were so helpful and friendly and we will definitely return.

Since discovering this little gem we no longer visit the area without popping in. The chocolate twists are generously sized, nice and buttery, and the coffee is divine. The staff are more than happy to cater to all my awkward needs and questions with a smile - nothing is too much trouble!
