McCafferty's Irish Bar, Bicester in Cherwell

Loved this bar. Will try food next time.

Nice enough bar on a major street, as the name suggests it's an Irish bar, so the drinks are as expected, Guinness and bottled red ale. All the usual wines and spirits are available. I frequented the pub on a Saturday lunchtime and it was moderately busy and seats were available. The drink prices were in keeping with the other pubs in this area. Set in an area with shops, cafes and other pubs with Bicester Village railway station an easy 12 minute walk away.

Popped in there for a drink with a friend and he was asked to remove his cap. After doing so he noticed there was another gentleman already by the bar wearing one, when simply pointing it out to the same member of staff (who seemed to be trying to act as some sort of manager) he was told ‘don’t tell me how to do my job’. To which he clarified he wasn’t, he was simply pointing out someone else appeared to be happily being served while wearing one. The member of staff then said it was her mate wearing the cap so he was allowed to wear it in ‘her’ pub and my friend needed to ‘sort his attitude out’. Felt extremely sorry for the poor other member of staff who looked visibly embarrassed by the behaviour on display. Would recommend trying to be more pleasant with visitors who aren’t her friends and if she removes the chip off her shoulder she may even make some new friends…

Good atmosphere with good selection of alcohol

Always great to see Shelia behind the bar. Good afternoon crowd providing a great atmosphere.

Seems to be called The White Hart now. Had a strange smell in the place and the lager I had was very bad. Not fresh and not very cold. Service was good friendly barmaid and there are a lot of screens showing different sport channels

Selection of pizzas .... though we would try them out but they only had the vegetarian. Sad that's all they had as it wasn't very good doubt we will be going back.

Bouncer was racist to my friend that came to visit me from chicago, staff are all minorities that are probably being underpaid,

Got racially profiled by the bouncer asked me if i had anything in my bag i shouldn't, checked my bag, and I showed there was nothing, told me there's loads of cameras in there and to remove my headwear (durag) and smile for all the cameras, deffo never give your money to this establishment, I will be looking into sueing them I'm only in town from america visiting my family...

Great venue. Service was amazing...asked four times within a minute and half about being served ..staff were friendly and welcoming. Good election of beers and open late too.

Was a nice place for a Sunday pint or two. The beer garden looked amazing with a massive large screen.

Nostalgic place in an Irish pub style. Inside there are two rooms with bar in each. Small outisde garden in Frontand second garden in the rear of the pub. You can watch here sports live.

Good service from the friendly barmaid.

Can't comment on food, went on a Friday night, good atmosphere will dancing and drinking. Bar is quite tight but opens out to a decent outside area.

Stay away from this pub the bouncers indiscriminately unprovoked attack on two of my wedding guests.leaving them hospitalised.Pub CCTV supports this. This can be confirmed by TV police.

Arriving at Bicester McCafferty's on the lively occasion of St. Patrick's Day alongside my son was a memorable experience indeed! Having recently relocated to the area, we quickly found ourselves drawn to this gem of an establishment. The atmosphere within the Bicester bar was simply electric, pulsating with the spirit of the holiday and a sense of belonging. From the moment we stepped through the door, we were greeted with genuine warmth and hospitality from the attentive staff. In particular, Georgina, the charming barmaid, exuded friendliness and good cheer, ensuring our visit was nothing short of delightful. Her engaging banter added an extra layer of enjoyment to our evening, making us feel like valued guests. It's rare to encounter such a perfect fusion of vibrant ambiance and exemplary service, but Bicester McCafferty's has truly mastered it. Without hesitation, we look forward to returning for more memorable moments. Kudos to the entire team for consistently delivering exceptional experiences!

Sunday karaoke fun..just great!

Husband and I went for a beer last night. He was wearing a ball cap and was immediately told to take it off. He did no problem. As soon as we got fully through the door we were asked for our IDs which is no big deal but the ginger man with the beard was rude, held our IDs tightly to the point we had to yank them back and rolled his eyes at us as if he was mad he didn’t catch a couple underage drinkers. Another lady at the bar loudly asked where the guards were. We felt very unwelcome and got rude and nasty looks from the workers. We left immediately and while we used to come here frequently we will most likely not return. Not every young person is underage or causes problems.

Popped in on Friday night just for 1 !!!! The music was great and we decided to stay a bit longer, after a couple of hours later and more than one !!! We went home very happy.

I genuinely think, if they allowed ball caps facing forward like most guys in our 20's wear, they would get 5*. Since they kick you out if you wear a ball cap, 2*.

Lovely ant antique place. Me and my friend really enjoyed it and definitely visit again.

Though I don't live in bicester for 23yrs my father does. I decided to do a pub crawl Xmas Eve to see if I can see anyone from my past, I was totally blown away with this pub, it has changed 😳 and looks amazing, and the Guinness was probably the best I had in England!

Have been severely mistreated by security + owners of the pub. Came from London for a couple drinks after shopping at bicester village but have been stereotyped by managers, owners and security. I have asked security to state their SIA badge number plus full name which i had never received. The security that i had asked decided to hide inside after physically assaulting me and my friends and never came out. They thought they could pay off me and my friends with £20 (which is seen on the CCTV footage) to avoid further trouble. I would avoid this place at all costs if you are not from oxford.

John o leary, claims to be the owner but never wanted to state his name, had to get it off the staff + customers, decided to kick me out of the place because I was of ethnic minority and didn’t suit the environment and/or expectations of the public. I came for a couple drinks with my friends but we all got mistreated and severely stereotyped which is crazy at this day and age. I tried to get the SIA badge number and full name off the security that had physically assaulted me and my friends but never received it. I had asked the security to politely come outside and explain to me why we had been kicked out but received nothing but threats and violence which I never experienced in London. As a bar manager myself I know that it is a legal requirement to state the badge number and full name of all security on shift which I never received. If you are of ethnic minority please avoid at all costs so you don’t go through the same experience as me or my friends.

Well looked after Guinness. Didn't eat here so no comment about food.

Dreadful place no wonder they have door security

Amazing pub, great staff, great band really clean, and service was excellent.

Spent the day here drinking and watching rugby. Lots and LOTS of screens - which made the day easier. My mate is the Guinness fan - he said it was OK; improved as the day went on (but part of that judgment might have been the EFFECTS of the Guinness, of course!) I was on the Coors - which was as expected in taste and coldness. It’s a very Oirish bar, but the prices are good and the staff welcoming.

Our band played here. It was absolutely rocking! Very well organised establishment and friendly landlord. Fingers crossed we will be back there before the years out!!

Probably the best Irish pub I've ever been to and Guinness is just perfect.

It was a pleasant experience. I went for to take time alone. The staff were lovely, the wine was delicious and the atmosphere was pleasantly bubbly. Just what I needed. 🙂

This pub use to be the heart and soul of bicester when it was the white heart now its full of unfriendly bar staff, management and door men/women this pub makes one rule for one and another for others having worked in the hospitality industry for over 20 years myself im very aware of what good customer service looks like and this pub is not it I would highly recommend that you avoid this establishment unless you are full prepared to be disappointed

Great pub! They don’t have many food options but the staff are very friendly and seem to love to work there. The atmosphere is great and we love the live bands on Saturdays.

Fantastic pub, multiple bars, live music, biggest screen I've ever seen for sport in the brilliantly designed garden. Definitely would go back.

Good pint of Guinness is served here. On the main street in Bicester with lots of little pockets of seats. Had football on the TV screens so is a bit of a mixture of old character full pub with sports.

I came in as I needed to charge my phone and was distressed because I was lost with no phone battery. The lovely lady behind the bar (who I found out after is Sheila) was so kind and offered me a place to sit, relax and charge the phone. As I went to buy a drink she said I didn’t have to. All the a same I got a pint, ice cold Moretti with a very warm welcome. Thank you so much. A great first impression of the pub and Bicester 😊❤️ I feel right at home!

On holiday in Bicester & came here a couple of nights. Lovely friendly bar staff. It was very, very busy on the Saturday night, other nights were also busy 9pm onwards, popular pub for the local & great atmosphere.

Amazing Irish themed pub ….. A must to visit when in Bicester

Nice pub inside, good atmosphere, plenty of space but we made the mistake of ordering pizza, which was the cheapest, most sorry looking frozen pizza you've ever seen. Yes 2 for £10 is cheap, but so is making something that doesn't resemble an Icleand super value pizza.

Omg what a gem. Looking from outside doesn't look a very large pub but once you go in It goes on for miles. Lovely character, friendly staff good atmosphere. I'd definitely recommend. Would love to go back and take advantage of the garden at the rear. Keep up the good work guys

Popped into this bar randomly on a trip to Bicester and had the most lovely experience. Am from Ireland myself and this is the most authentic, friendly Irish pub I have ever visited in England. Was served by a lovely Irish lady Sheila who came over to speak to us a couple of times and was so warm and welcoming. She even made me a traditional Irish hot port on request which I have never managed to find in England and highly recommend to anyone visiting! A fabulous, welcoming, cosy pub that I cannot wait to visit again and will go out of my way to return to. Thank you for making us feel so welcome and all the best to you all!
