Probably the worst Chinese / Thai takeaway I’ve ever had. Just moved to the area and def won’t ever order again. Tasteless/bland/ nothing like described. Waste of money

Takeaway from here, brilliant food but waiting a long time

Visited this restaurant this evening to find a large black hair hanging from the prawn cracker basket. When our starters came out they was wrong, having specifically asked for salt and pepper ribs and no sauce. Was asked to eat the other bits on the mixed hordeorves round the sauce and they would bring out more ribs. Then while waiting for the next course, noticed another hair on the table cloth. Discreetly went and told them and said we didn’t want the intermediate or main courses, they came and apologised but still charged us £50! Not very professional at all.

A great place and relaxed atmosphere for dinner in this lovely restaurant, perfect to unwind after a busy week at work. The food was superb and Ken is a great host. Will definitely be back. Perhaps a little more expensive than other places in the area but the quality of the food certainly justifies that!

Excellent family run restaurant. Really authentic food and you can tell they cook with much love. Drove all the way from London - this beats every place in china town. If you preorder they cook the freshest seafood (my chinese wife agrees!)

Expensive, average food and not great service. Expect 10% service charge regardless size of party. Class of wine £8! Average dish £9. Have to pay for crackers!!!!

First thing we need to say is that we were mostly chinese and ordered a select menu that they were able to produce. The crispy noodles and lobster was especially good as was the whole steamed sea bass, chinese style head & tail included. Great service. Look forward to our next visit.

Ken and Debbie made us truly welcome. We wanted a dinner for 10 to suit Chinese palate and they came up trumps. Food was delicious and nothing was too much trouble. It was indeed a gourmet menu ordered specially to our liking. Thank you, Ken and Debbie, no doubt we will be back sooner than later.

A real shock, but definitely the good kind. Having spent time in China and Korea I normally avoid Chinese restaurants in the UK as they are almost invariably disappointing, but this place is the exception. The restaurant looks good, the service was friendly and the food is amazing.

Lovely custom we came here for our first wedding aniversary for a meal, the owner couldnt been any more poilte, food was amazing will be coming here again worth the money that was spent so happy would advise coming here

We had a great takeaway last night, the spare ribs were the highlight for me, recommended by Ken when I placed our order. All of our dishes were cooked perfectly. We will definitely be coming back for our next takeaway.

Staying at a local hotel and luckily their food choices were bad. If they was any different we wouldn’t have found this place! Amazing food, fantastic hospitality and even better music. I will definitely be back!

Not the cheapest but definitely the best in the area. The chap in the bar\reception is always on top form, friendly and welcoming. Always use this place when we fancy a takeaway treat.

I've just eaten dinner here and it's been truly excellent. The food has been nothing but first class, the service impeccable, and the sounds of Motown playing in the background... What more could I want on a Friday evening? I'm definitely coming again... And again... And again to this lovely, welcoming, warm restaurant. A place that you must eat in, and the car park right outside is free too. Please ignore the negative reviews from people who had a take away from here. Those people should have eaten inside instead of being lazy and staying home.

The food was excellent very friendly service but the service was very slow

Very nice thai food, loved their malaysian noodles and thai jasmin rice and vegetables. Unfortunately they mistook my AT5 or chicken and vegetables for a pad lad prik or T8 which was not to great. Other than that they where brilliant.

The staff were so friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious - I just wanted to keep eating it! A fabulous dining experience. I recommend this venue highly 😁

First time dining in the Maypole. The owners are so lovely, friendly and welcoming. Had a lovely meal, all dishes ordered had a great flavour, and not greasy at all, which I've experienced at other chinese restaurants before. I would definitely recommend eating here and will be back again soon.

The service was poor, the special fried rice was mushy and he got my order wrong. This by far is the worst Chinese I've had in my life.

Not upto the Chinese food quality and charges are very high then any Chinese restaurant in England , check for the hidden charges which are not in the menu and don’t ask any recommendations regarding the food from the waiter or the owner of the restaurant,Check the bill ask them for itemised and price bill,

We normally use our local Chinese takeaway but unfortunately was closed due to covid, so we used maypole for the first time, and WOW we ordered thai from there, it was absolutely lovely would truly recommend. You wont be disappointed. You gained a new customer!! Keep up the good work.

The last time I went to The Maypole in Tiptree it was a traditional pub and we had a family dinner...that was many decades ago.It's been a Chinese/Thai restaurant and takeaway for a long time now but this was my first experience if their food and it didn't disappoint!We ordered by phone was advised 45 minutes and we collected it at five to six and drove back a family members house who lives in the village.A very tasty takeaway meal for us and the only complaint which is a mere grumble was you only got four pieces of my favourite side dish/starter is Sesame Prawn Toast ( my usual Chinese gives us about 8!) Was a little bemused to notice two men sat in reception area drinking pints , which with current lockdown measures didn't seem to be allowed? Very happy with our experience though!

We've recently moved from Tiptree to Peldon. We've tried a couple of more local Chinese takeaways, but tonight I accepted that the 20 minutes drive each way is well worth it to get our food from Maypole, hands down the best Chinese food around.

Incredible service, the menu and the food are fantastic and the treatment they give you is unbeatable, we like to go to this restaurant because they serve us great and the food is very delicious, I wish other restaurants and bars provided service as good as this one.

After arriving back from our holiday in Italy, eating bread, and cheese in a variety of different forms, we decided to go to the Maypole Chinese restaurant for the all you can eat banquet.The food was excellent and delicious. My personal favourite was the sweet and sour pork which was so tasty, however everything else on the menu was amazing.I will definitely be returning!

This restaurant was recommended to us, we visited for lunch, food was so good, prawn curry, king prawn, rice and noodles, served hot, food presented well and so very tasty. Service very good, staff friendly, will definitely return.

Food was delicious, we had salt and pepper prawns and squid, special fried rice, prawn pad Thai and char Sui pork. Lots of prawns in the pad Thai. Service was excellent. Staff were friendly and. quick. Definitely will go back when I'm in the area.

5 of us went to celebrate my wife's birthday. We ordered a variety of dishes as we were 'pushing the boat out' and we were not disappointed, the food was perfectly seasoned and required no additional condiments.

As someone who has been working in HK for the last 3 years,Chinese Restaurants in the UK are arguably better, especially the Maypole Restaurant which I have been returning to every summer!

What a warm welcome we received. Lovely young guy took our order. Answered all our questions. Was funny and friendly towards our 4 year old grandson. Really lovely family restaurant. Spring rolls were steaming hot and filled to the brim with veggies. The sizzling beef dish was to die for, beef was nice and lean and the flavour was perfect. A our other dishes were lovely and fresh too. Great ambience too. Will definitely be coming back!

We had a lovely meal last Thursday. The owners are very nice and very friendly. The food was delicious. Not greasy or stodgy. Would recommend a visit.

I recently visited to celebrate my birthday, the food was exquisite and so was the service!. My family and I had such a wonderful experience eating in the restaurant. This is also the best takeaway in Tiptree by far and I would highly recommend maypole to anyone eating in or taking away.

I remember going here years ago and moved to the area recently. Waited nearly an hour for a takeaway. I can't say it was a good meal to be honest and will not be going back.

Kept waiting for takeaway.... Then they got the order wrong and the starters lookedl like overcooked Iceland food n tasted bloody awful. Binned the lot as too tierd to go n take it back !! Waste of time n money n wont be going back to eat their again.

Taking parents-in-law to your favourite Chinese restaurant can always be a little nerve-racking... But our hosts guided them to their favourites and kept the glasses topped up. Everyone left full and content.

Just OK. Had worse Chinese food, but we found the portions were very small for the price and were overall a bit disappointed with our meal and still hungry afterwards. In particular the sweet chilli sauce had a very odd taste and smell...a bit fishy and definitely not what we expected. Just wish I'd sniffed it before pouring all over my meal!!

Drinks are very expensive. £6.60 for 2 cans of coke but the food is lush

I'm gluten free & on asking the owner to cater for my needs this evening for a take away ken came up with a absoute delicious menu for me, I will be 1000% be using them again, so helpful in every aspect & well worth every penny, the food was more than delicious, I'm so happy I have found a superb Chinese restaurant compared to another one in tiptree who couldn't meet my requirements & were very unhelpful that all they could give me were noodles which were extremely bland with a few pieces of chicken, so goodbye to them & arms open to the maypole from now on, thank you very much for your professional help,

Really nice food but be careful ordering chips and curry sauce... the portion of curry sauce is enormous and the chip portion is tiny!!! Very disappointed we had about 5 chips each.

An old converted pub gives ample space for dining & parking alike.The Menu is extensive & even flexible to your liking.The food precedes all expectations,& that plus the whole ambience of this ‘GEM’,truly brings Eastern hospitality to Western living! I have never met a arrogant rude unfriendly staff before until I went to this so called restaurant,I order a takeaway by phone for one of their set Thai meals for two with banana fritters but realised that I said pineapple by mistake so immediately rang to corrected this,then after taking it home found the order was not that I had ordered & overcharged called to show of their mistake & was told tuff with no concern at all.

Really great Chinese restaurant. Only takes a few visits before Ken (the owner) learns your name and drink preference! It’s a little bit more expensive than a typical Chinese takeaway but that’s because it is far better than a typical Chinese takeaway. The Sunday “eat as much as you like” buffet is different to normal Chinese restaurants. You get full dishes of your choice delivered to your table. Then if your still hungry (we had two more dishes between us) you ask for them. In the past I’ve not known what to order and Ken has offered excellent advice based on other dishes that we like/have ordered before. His team will even make you dishes that aren’t on the menu. I’d eat here everyday if I could but I think my belt would complain!
