Kimchi House in Colchester

Our server was absolutely lovely and so patient with my very indecisive family who I went with. In total, we were a group of 5 people and all ordered one thing each totalling to £70 - I found this very reasonably priced. We ordered the chicken udon, chicken buns, beef bulgogi, boneless chicken, and cheese dduk bok gi, which was mine and absolutely the best I'd ever had! I sometimes find it too be a bit too sweet for my taste, but I found the sauce to be not overly sweet and I thought the portion size was perfect to finish before hitting that sickly sweet feeling I sometimes get with this dish in other places. My dad really enjoyed his beef bulgogi (despite my unfortunately blurry picture), which was actually still sizzling in the pan when it was brought out and smelled amazing. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and had a great atmosphere as well!

Delightful experience at this Korean gem in Colchester! The Chicken Katsu was a savory delight, and the hot Korean chicken wings had the perfect kick. Service was excellent, and the ambiance added to the enjoyment. Dining with an infant was easy as they had high chairs and accommodated our requests. Highly recommend!

This place is a bit of a hidden gem, eat here often, the food and the staff are always amazing, I've never been let down. Surprised so few people have tried it but when ever I take someone new here they always leave having loved the experience.

Very good Korean cuisine. We tried several dishes and they were all freshly prepared and delicious. Will definitely come back even if living in Chelmsford! And would really recommend to friends!

The jajangmyeon was a but sad. Portion wise was smaller than I expected. I wished they served it in a bowl instead as it was awkward to mix it in a plate. And classically jajangmyeon should have some yellow daikon radish on the side but there wasnt any. Flavour wise of the noodles werent too great either, I have had better. Kimchi pancake was good but portion wise was too small. Bibimbap wasnt too bad, its the best dish amongst the three but the heat from the hot stone bowl of the bibimbap was their only saving grace.

The food was not very traditional Korean food but more like Chinese food. It may because the owner and staff are mainly Chinese. The price was reasonable and the service was great.

I'm not Korean or have visited South Korea ever, so I can't compare with proper Korean food, but we enjoyed the noodles, bibimbap and mandu at a reasonable price

Great food at a reasonable price, I had a drink, starter, main and dessert for £20. Wide selection of food for all tastes. Smashing service, friendly, helpful and not at all pushy, l had a lovely relaxed lunch.

It was my first time trying Korean food and it was so delicious! The service was very good as well, we didn't have to wait too long for our meals. I would definitely come back!

What a gem! Lovely staff and really good food. If you like a bit of chilli heat in your food then this is the place. If you don't, this is the place. Really good value and generous portions, especially in the bowl meals. Lovely kimchi, as would be expected. The wine is drinkable and cheap for a restaurant. It is located opposite the Curzon and is great for a pre or post meal.

The bibimbap is very sad, with only few veggies and tons of spicy sauce, the rice are just plain rice without any trace of the burn,crunchy flavour or scent from stone pot. Kimchi pancake is so dry that hurt your teeth and deep fried rice cake isn't really deep fry.........Shame that this is the only Korean restaurant in town, and charged like you pay in London

Great food. But venue was so cold and the front door wouldn't close properly, which wasn't great on an all ready cold day.

Bibimbap was super delicious but missed kimchi. Staff unfriendly and impolite with us, they need some training. I asked a tea (come in teapots, 2£ person) and my husband did not want any drink. I offered my husband to try the tea and staff came immediately at us saying that he has to pay one more tea if he wants tea. very embarassing. The lady serving us was 100% focused on guarding the tea rather than if we have a good experience as customers. It was so much tea that I left more than half of it in the teapot, while my husband was afraid to take a sip lol😄I asked for extra chilli sauce and she insisted that is sufficient in the bibimbap but in the end she brought me the sauce. For take away I recommend the food though.

This is the 5th or 6th time here. The food is delicious, it arrives quickly and the staff are attentive and polite. One of my favourite restaurants. I had a lovely mother's day meal here today and we are all very grateful for your excellent service. X

We ate here recently, and had high hopes, but it turns out we were disappointed. Food was terrifyingly expensive, bland and sooo greasy. My chicken had gristle or bone in, the noodles were tasteless and swimming in oil. The Calamari was good though. Wouldn't recommend, certainly won't visit again.

Had a lovely meal here yesterday. I’ve eaten in many different restaurants and this food was served piping hot . We all had something different so could try each other’s dishes . Overall hot tasty food .We will be back .

Great selection of various tasty dishes, each time we visit the area we make a point of popping in for lunch. Daughter loves the hot spicy food.

The food was below average. Service was poor and the food took 40 minutes to come. The host was hard of hearing and unwelcoming. I do no recommend spending a penny in this establishment.

A small cafe near the castle selling freshly cooked Korean food. There is a good selection of decent food at reasonable prices. A great place for lunch when visiting Colchester.

This is a Asian/Chinese fusion restaurant, not Korean. Had 3 different dishes and none of them tasted like Korean.

Friendly fast service, food was amazing and really cheap, massive portions, my mums soup was still bubbling when it came out and my bibimbap was in a hot stone dish that changed the flavours and textures as it cooked more while I was eating it, highly recommend

Amazing food with great lt variety, service could be clearer for timing expectation. Mains and starters arrived at different times and took at least 30 minutes for everyone to be served, party of 7 but not expected that much wait. Friendly staff but might be better as takeaway.

We ordered kimchi pancakes which were nice as starter, but chicken bibimbap I had was terrible. The smell was really bad, boiled(?) chicken didn’t look like chicken, my partner’s meal was equally as bad we couldn’t finish it. Nearly 40 quid wasted, won’t go again.

We chose this place to celebrate my birthday today. We ordered 7 dishes however, all came except MY order. My husband and friend started eating and halfway toward finishing their meals when i followed my order, this horrible cashier / waitress re-checked my order and spoke to kitchen staff. She said 5 more minutes and I thought 5 more minutes was too long for hubby and friend to finish their meals. Another group of customers came and said waitress served most if not all their orders, STILL without my meal. At this point im already frustrated and followed up with her again, she said she will check with the chef. Out of my frustration, i told her my hubbt and friend are already done with their meals. She didn’t even apologise, she asked me iNstead if i wanted to cancel my order which I DID to show her my frustration. She came when we finished the food and started removing the emply plates. I told her if she were in my place, how would she feel. She said if i wanted to complaint, i can talk to the boss. Which aggravated me more. Imagine being hungry and not getting your Order. I asked for the boss but she started ignoring me and acted like she’s not hearing me. So i went up to her i said i dont have all day, i have my daughter with me so pls get her boss so i could complain about her horrible customer service. It was repeatedly like that, me asking and her ignoring me till one of the kitchen people came and introduced himself as the manager and apologised, he said that they completely missed out on my order, he was so nice and really tried to pacify my anger, even my husband’s and friend’s anger at this point. I told him Im ready to pay, but can u ask her to apologise for horrible treatment and service, he then went and asked the lady but the same lady walked out right in front of us and ddnt apologise to us and talked back to the manager whom i believed asked her nicely to just apologse and be done with it. It was impossible. She was impossible. I hope the manager / boss teach her a leason or two. She shouldn’t be in any customer service industry as her people skills suck. By the way her name is Aomeng and manager’s name is Yuchen. I paid £51 for food we ddnt even enjoy due to rude service and attitude

Had a fantastic meal here with the family. The food selection was great and the ordered dishes were delicious and spicey. Highly recommended although if you have allergies to some food ingredients it would be best to check beforehand as I could not see specific ingredients on the menu for most of the dishes.

Wonderfully tasty food, friendly atmosphere and good value

Visited with three children for lunch. The server was great at suggesting things that wouldn’t be too spicy for the children and even gave us extra paper straws and a little aloe juice to try. The food was delicious and pretty plentiful. The only bit that let down the experience was the bathroom, which was in the middle of some kind of renovation. I look forward to going back when the works are finished.

Had a lovely group meal here. The menu had something for everybody. I didn't give it 5 stars because my seafood was overcooked. I will definitely come back again though.

Ramen is AMAZING! Best I've had. Chicken wings with the sticky sauce was lush too. Sadly one dish I sent back as it wasn't what I thought it was (it was my first time ordering korean) but they were lovely and got me some ramen which made up for it! Absolutely going back, but this time knowing better what's on the menu.

Enjoyed great service in this cozy setting for a large table of people. Had the pork bibimbap and sea weed salad. Would have liked the bibimbap's rice to be more crispy on the bottom, but the ingredients and flavors were on point. Looking forward to enjoying this place again!

The ramen is SO GOOD! I love ramen generally, but this changed it up a bit with a more opaque broth and thinner pork that tasted really bacony. The fried egg was perfectly done. The chicken wings with garlic and Soy sauce was delicious and the sauce was super buttery. The rest of the food was generally good, but I felt these dishes pushed the meal into my GREAT category. The service was amazing, especially with just one waitress and a packed restaurant. I was super impressed. The speed the dishes were cooked and were served piping hot was 10/10

Hello, I'm leaving a review because my friends asked me too much. First of all, the food in this restaurant is not Korean food. As a Korean, it is embarrassing to use a Korean flag on a sign and sell fake Korean food. Even the Korean written on the sign was wrong. Their small sign says "Kimchi Kingdom" with Korean, not "Kimchi House". The service was good, but the food was just imitating Korean food. Just watch Baek Jongwon's YouTube and cook. It's much better.

Jajangmyeon noodles tasted so bland. No flavour at all. Got the soy and garlic chicken wings and there was so much oil and they were completely soggy with sauce, tasted very salty and overpowering. Would not purchase from here again.

My partner and I tried this restaurant when it first opened thinking it was delicious. We hadn't had the chance to try it again until recently. Unfortunately our second experience was very good. The staff was very nice and polite. However, the food wasn't up to the standards. We ordered some Korean fried chicken in a soy garlic sauce, although the sauce was just soy sauce poured all over the chicken making it extremely salty and not very nice. We also ordered a fire chicken to share: the chicken wasn't great quality and it was mainly vegetables and very few rice cakes considering the price for it. Sadly, we probably won't be back..

Frustrated that I spent my money here, Also glad at the same time I didn't order any more than ddebbeoki and chicken wings. The instant ddeobboki tastes much better than what I ate from this self proclaimed Korean place! The "Korean sauce" chicken wings should have been completely soaked and fried in the sauce,instead what I get is mere sauce on fried chicken, just like tomato ketchup on fries lmao. The best part is, the sauce LITERALLY tastes like spicy tomato ketchup. Honestly don't know why this place got has such high reviews,while it clearly isn't upto it's mark! If you are reading this,I reckon to not think twice and eat somewhere else. Edit: got upset stomach several hours after eating this!

Visited the restaurant for the first time. Food is very nice.

We arrived early so waited outside patiently for opening time. The waiter unlocked the door, flipped the 'open' sign round and, to our amusement, walked off, completely ignoring the fact we were standing there! (It would have been polite and welcoming to perhaps open the door for us). He did not greet us and chose to scuttle off to hide behind the safety of the counter. We were baffled by this as he then had to come out from his hiding place to show us to our table. He rarely spoke and when he did, it was only to mumble answers to us during our food order. The only time he spoke concisely was to shout 'thank you, goodbye' as we left. Judging from the customer experience during the entire ordeal of dining here, I couldnt help but wonder if there was a note of glee or perhap relief in his parting words? He was clearly uncomfortable with speaking to people and he lacked even the basics of customer service. The bathroom looked clean, but the smell was putrid. Our table felt sticky. And the windows were covered in a thin layer of dirt and dust. The floor had been mopped, but clearly not hoovered as you could see the leftover crumbs of food on the floor which were now wet from being pushed around by the mop The food, in part, was nice. We had squid as a starter and it was a little overcooked so was chewy and slighty tough, but the sauce was really tasty. The Kimchi pancake starter was greasy but tasted good. Everything else was acceptable but not as good as I remembered it. I can only hope this review will be taken as constructive criticism as Kimchi was not like this on my first few visits.

Went here on a Tuesday evening and although quiet as it was midweek we were really impressed. Everywhere was really clean and the service we received was excellent. As we were unable to decide what to have we asked our waiter to just bring us a variety of the most authentic starters and mains from the menu, and we were not disappointed. All of the food was fresh and tasted amazing, the waiter was quick to clear any empty dishes and check we were ok. Will most definitely be returning and would highly recommend.

The food was quite tasty and I was happy to see lots of Vegetarian options! However, the food didn’t seem very authentic like some other Korean Restaurants we’ve visited before. Also the service was very slow on the Sunday evening we visited.

We have tried Korean food for the first time and the food was delicious. We will definitely recommend and come back!
