I had a lovely date night with my husband here. The atmosphere was great music brilliant. The service was fantastic very attentive. I had the red Thai which lacked those delicate flavours it should have I only could taste the fish sauce but the prawns were succulent and really fresh. It was though the worst Thai curry I’m afraid I’ve had. The owner very kindly took it off the bill. My husband’s king prawn main dish was wonderful, The pork dishes lack tenderness and were abit dry. The rices would of been far better with a nice quality long grain rice instead it was also dry and tasteless We did have a lovely night but sadly the food didn’t blow us away and sadly wouldn’t return but we did enjoy ourselves

Great food delivered with great service! My family wanted to enjoy some exceptional food together for a celebration and Ken from the Maypole went out of his way to ensure it was a success. The food was cooked beautifully and it was clear only quality ingredients had been used. We had been looking for a local restaurant for a while now where we can enjoy and rely on the food quality and looks like finally we have found our regular place. I would strongly recommend giving the Maypole of Tiptree a go.

Been going here since the 90’s and it never disappoints. The food is amazing. Ken, Debbie and the family are always welcoming, friendly and entertaining. If something isn’t on the menu they will go out of their way to make a custom dish for you. Or modify any other dish however you would like it. 10/10

Wish thr is a 0 rating. Had no option so went for 1 star. The food was absolutely tasteless and quantity was shockingly the lowest ever u find per any dish anywhere in the world. Biggest joke of this place is that u get charged extra for asking to make any item more spicy. Above all the prices are horrendously high for the lowest ever quantity u get

The service and food at this restaurant is exceptional, and I would highly recommend to anyone passing by unsure on what to eat. We were travelling through the area and stopped here, and couldn't be more pleased we did. Will visit again whenever in the area.

Exceptional food and lovely service. We aren't local but came across this little gem and will definitely remember it if we're nearby and hope to return soon! Also found the portions to be perfect when sharing to get a real mix of everything. Overall, a great restaurant which is run by great people.

Independently owned family run establishment. Food is of the highest quality and the staff are the friendliest and nicest people. Have been coming for years and is better than any place I’ve been to in the uk. Can even preorder fresh seafood in advance.

Probably the worst Chinese / Thai takeaway I’ve ever had. Just moved to the area and def won’t ever order again. Tasteless/bland/ nothing like described. Waste of money

Very bad! First when I called the owner answers and said we are fully booked try again another day and hung up before I could speak again! I had to call back to then be rushed to ordered cause he kept saying he is very busy! When I got there to pick up he had missed something because he was rushing so much, no free prawn crackers either. Food was horrible too! Worst Chinese Iv had in Essex!

Booked for a celebration birthday dinner for the family, greeted warmly but could see clearly that the 2 gentlemen working the restaurant were under pressure. Seated with menus but waited for quite a while for anyone to return. Do not make the mistake we made order all food required at the beginning , this was not explained to us. Don’t get me wrong food was very nice , but we didn’t get starter until we had been in the restaurant for over an hour. Had to find someone to take another drinks order , twice. We had to then chase for a menu so we could order a main course, no one checked on our table , no one let us know of the way to order the food so we we constantly waiting a very long time. We had been in the restaurant 3 hours before our mains were served, once the restaurant started to empty do anyone check were ok ; bet late really . When the bill came without asking they did deduct the service charge , I did have a word but was told maybe don’t come on a Saturday. Would say food was good , expensive but nice . Don’t sit at the back of the restaurant, if they can’t see you you get forgotten if they busy. We were there for over 3 1/2 must of this was without food and drinks

My sister and I visited The Maypole Chinese for the first time and we were blown away by everything about this wonderful place. First, the service: Absolutely impeccable! Friendly, the right amount of attentiveness, warm and welcoming. From entering the establishment to finishing the meal, there was no feeling of being rushed and nothing was too much trouble, in fact we were made to feel more like friends than guests (we certainly felt we left as friends anyway!). Second, the food: My goodness, I don't know where to begin! From the amount of seasoning, flavours, hot to the table and delicious, every course was cooked to perfection. We have sampled a number of Chinese restaurants in the past and The Maypole is by far one of the best we have had the pleasure of frequenting in a long time. Third, the cost: For the services The Maypole provide and quality of produce, you are getting so much more for just a slightly higher price than a take away and in our opinion it was worth every penny. So would we recommend this restaurant? Yes with out a shadow of a doubt! We will be visiting again and soon. Thank you once again for a lovely evening! Amanda

Takeaway from here, brilliant food but waiting a long time

Visited this restaurant this evening to find a large black hair hanging from the prawn cracker basket. When our starters came out they was wrong, having specifically asked for salt and pepper ribs and no sauce. Was asked to eat the other bits on the mixed hordeorves round the sauce and they would bring out more ribs. Then while waiting for the next course, noticed another hair on the table cloth. Discreetly went and told them and said we didn’t want the intermediate or main courses, they came and apologised but still charged us £50! Not very professional at all.

A great place and relaxed atmosphere for dinner in this lovely restaurant, perfect to unwind after a busy week at work. The food was superb and Ken is a great host. Will definitely be back. Perhaps a little more expensive than other places in the area but the quality of the food certainly justifies that!

Excellent family run restaurant. Really authentic food and you can tell they cook with much love. Drove all the way from London - this beats every place in china town. If you preorder they cook the freshest seafood (my chinese wife agrees!)

Ken and Debbie made us truly welcome. We wanted a dinner for 10 to suit Chinese palate and they came up trumps. Food was delicious and nothing was too much trouble. It was indeed a gourmet menu ordered specially to our liking. Thank you, Ken and Debbie, no doubt we will be back sooner than later.

First thing we need to say is that we were mostly chinese and ordered a select menu that they were able to produce. The crispy noodles and lobster was especially good as was the whole steamed sea bass, chinese style head & tail included. Great service. Look forward to our next visit.

A real shock, but definitely the good kind. Having spent time in China and Korea I normally avoid Chinese restaurants in the UK as they are almost invariably disappointing, but this place is the exception. The restaurant looks good, the service was friendly and the food is amazing.

Lovely custom we came here for our first wedding aniversary for a meal, the owner couldnt been any more poilte, food was amazing will be coming here again worth the money that was spent so happy would advise coming here

Best Chinese I’ve ever had and the owners was so friendly and welcoming. Stayed at a local hotel and the dinner options was so awful but thankfully found this place. Will definitely be coming back.

We had a great takeaway last night, the spare ribs were the highlight for me, recommended by Ken when I placed our order. All of our dishes were cooked perfectly. We will definitely be coming back for our next takeaway.

Not the cheapest but definitely the best in the area. The chap in the bar\reception is always on top form, friendly and welcoming. Always use this place when we fancy a takeaway treat.

I've just eaten dinner here and it's been truly excellent. The food has been nothing but first class, the service impeccable, and the sounds of Motown playing in the background... What more could I want on a Friday evening? I'm definitely coming again... And again... And again to this lovely, welcoming, warm restaurant. A place that you must eat in, and the car park right outside is free too. Please ignore the negative reviews from people who had a take away from here. Those people should have eaten inside instead of being lazy and staying home.

The food was excellent very friendly service but the service was very slow

Very nice thai food, loved their malaysian noodles and thai jasmin rice and vegetables. Unfortunately they mistook my AT5 or chicken and vegetables for a pad lad prik or T8 which was not to great. Other than that they where brilliant.

First time dining in the Maypole. The owners are so lovely, friendly and welcoming. Had a lovely meal, all dishes ordered had a great flavour, and not greasy at all, which I've experienced at other chinese restaurants before. I would definitely recommend eating here and will be back again soon.

We normally use our local Chinese takeaway but unfortunately was closed due to covid, so we used maypole for the first time, and WOW we ordered thai from there, it was absolutely lovely would truly recommend. You wont be disappointed. You gained a new customer!! Keep up the good work.

The last time I went to The Maypole in Tiptree it was a traditional pub and we had a family dinner...that was many decades ago.It's been a Chinese/Thai restaurant and takeaway for a long time now but this was my first experience if their food and it didn't disappoint!We ordered by phone was advised 45 minutes and we collected it at five to six and drove back a family members house who lives in the village.A very tasty takeaway meal for us and the only complaint which is a mere grumble was you only got four pieces of my favourite side dish/starter is Sesame Prawn Toast ( my usual Chinese gives us about 8!) Was a little bemused to notice two men sat in reception area drinking pints , which with current lockdown measures didn't seem to be allowed? Very happy with our experience though!

We've recently moved from Tiptree to Peldon. We've tried a couple of more local Chinese takeaways, but tonight I accepted that the 20 minutes drive each way is well worth it to get our food from Maypole, hands down the best Chinese food around.

After arriving back from our holiday in Italy, eating bread, and cheese in a variety of different forms, we decided to go to the Maypole Chinese restaurant for the all you can eat banquet.The food was excellent and delicious. My personal favourite was the sweet and sour pork which was so tasty, however everything else on the menu was amazing.I will definitely be returning!

This restaurant was recommended to us, we visited for lunch, food was so good, prawn curry, king prawn, rice and noodles, served hot, food presented well and so very tasty. Service very good, staff friendly, will definitely return.

As someone who has been working in HK for the last 3 years,Chinese Restaurants in the UK are arguably better, especially the Maypole Restaurant which I have been returning to every summer!

5 of us went to celebrate my wife's birthday. We ordered a variety of dishes as we were 'pushing the boat out' and we were not disappointed, the food was perfectly seasoned and required no additional condiments.
