Good food as always. it was delicious. The service was a bit hit and miss, with the wrong items ordered ( but was very tasty). The venue is very tiny and it felt like the waiters were staring at us throughout the whole meal. It was also extremely hot.the air con was not on . But the food is delicious so I would go again.

Awful we ordered chicken balls and chow mein also prawn crackers and chips am now sick from this place food was awful sweet and sour sauce so runny chips awful chicken balls really dry chow mein and just noodles it had a few meat in wich was horrid and fatty will not be ordering again. Apart from the wait time, but expected as probably the only Chinese open on a Monday! The food was amazing, very very tasty and fresh, 9 out of 10, would of been 10 out of 10 but had to shred the duck lol! Defo will be using from now on :)

Ordered from Uber eats from them and they kept me waiting out in the rain and said they won’t give me my food until I accept the order even though I want the one who ordered it was my friend

Went today for the £22.50 Sunday buffet. Food was simply amazing and served piping hot and as ordered off menu, was very fresh. Tempura prawns were delicious and portions very good and food very nicely presented. All the staff were very friendly and couldn't fault anything. We will definitely be back!!

The girl taking our orders insisted on us ordering by number from the menu. Starters of tom yum and wun ton soup were tasty , albeit a bit on the small side. Then our waitress came back to review our mains order as she had written 150 which is not on the menu ( it should have been 115 ) We'd ordered the lamb black bean and also prawn, ginger and spring onion sizzling platters with rice. We were given silly little bowls for eating out of, far too small to be practical. The lamb , although tasty, was tough as old boots. And the prawn and ginger was downright bland, I was actually wondering if the chef had omitted to include the ginger at all. And although we both b ordered different wines, she also gave us both exactly the same one. A very underwhelming experience

Terrible, not sure it was we arrived at 9 pm but the food was absolutely disgusting. Ribs like they had be cooked over and over again chilli beef the same. Noodles we totally left black in colour and disgusting 🤮 . friendly enough people but as far as the food goes it’s a definite no no. Not recommended

We popped in here for dinner early in the week. We have had takeaways from this restaurant quite a few times and have always enjoyed them. We thought the food was very tasty and we really enjoyed the selection of dishes we had. Service was very good and efficient, and we were made to feel very welcome.

We tried here after such a bad experience at Zizzi to such a different attitude as a family business . Go out of their way to accommodate you and food was good and reasonable price. You could see they appreciate your custom and offer excellent customer service ...highly recommend ..

I've eaten here quite a few times because there is always a nice atmosphere in the restaurant and a good choice of affordable food. There's also a cheap carpark within two minutes walk from the restaurant.

We bought from here because the reviews looked good but what a mistake!! Worse Chinese I’ve ever had the special foo young was just scrambled egg and it had broken egg shell in it! the rest was tasteless the prawn crackers were yellow and hard.. definitely wont be going back 🤢

We went to this restaurant at the weekend who hosted my Dads 80th Birthday meal and they did a pan absolutely fantastic job. The food was amazing the seating was great given that the restaurant isn’t huge and the staff were all so polite helpful efficient and friendly and looked after us so well. My Dad enjoyed himself so much it made his birthday special. We would all highly recommend Chinatown as the entire experience was brilliant from start to finish thank you SO MUCH.

This restaurant is extremely under rated. Visited here yesterday evening as a last minute decision for dinner. One of the best Chinese meals I've had. The staff were lovely and made sure we were well looked after. Highly recommend. Thank you China Town for a lovely meal :)

Had delivery tonight, worst Chinese food In have ever eaten. £40 for a set meal of overcooked vegetables, bleached boiled chicken and Iceland quality starters. Avoid. .

Very friendly service, welcoming restaurant, parking nearby with ample disabled spaces. The restaurant serves delicious food, try the lemon grass and soy sauce sizzling chicken! cold drinks and gratuitous carafes of water if you ask. Highly recommend.

We have just eaten here for the first time and we had a brilliant experience. Me and my wife had the Sunday buffet and it was superb, quite expensive,(£18.50) but we thought it was excellent value for money, the food was beautifully presented, Ivy the co-owner was delightful and we will definitely return.

ordered egg fried rice, kung po chicken, beef chow mein, chicken balls sweet and sour sauce and beef curry after being told they dont do special curry. egg fried rice????? wasn't even fried. was soggy boiled rice with half a tsp of egg. was rank. kung po chicken didnt even taste right. was just a sweet sticky sauce that had no flavour to it. chow main noodles where soggy. next to nothing of beef in it. chicken balls was huge but a small piece of chicken with loads of batter. didn't receive my beef curry. instead they sent me crispy chilli beef that was just batter!!!!! no beef what so ever... and cost 35 blxxxdy pound!!!! called to complain they was very rude. this chinese takaway are using all the tricks to scam you... please avoid and try ANY OTHER CHINESE TAKEAWAY. or why not try for yourself to experience the worst chinese takeaway in the uk. this takeaway should be shut down ASAP!!!!!

Chinatown is a fantastic place to eat in or takeaway aa the food is amazing! I have eaten there since it first opened and the business is family run and Ivy is an excellent hostess with great customer service skills. Definitely recommend to everyone Colchesters own little Chinatown!

The lady who runs the restaurant treated me and a group of friends unfairly. We got to the restaurant around 9:55 and just as we were about to go in, a lady locked the doors turned the open sign to close and turned off the restaurant lights. Now I've been to this restaurant before and I know that it closes at 10:30pm (also advertised on Google).Its the fact that She didn't even give us a chance to say anything, she didn't look us in the eye..., just nothing. The whole experience just put me off because I am a person of color and the uncertainty of the reasoning for the motivation of these actions scares me. The restaurant does serve good food but I don't think I'll ever go back because now I don't feel welcome anymore.

Omg best Chinese ever!!! Had the buffet on the Sunday honestly the best Chinese I’ve eating (and I eat a lot) the staff was so lovely very helpful and really friendly. The place was really nice and very clean and the food was out of this world (best crispy shedded chilli beef highly recommend) if ever up that way definitely check it out. We will be back again!! :)

Called the number on the website to order, and someone almost scammed me, asked me to read out my card details, that only accept card payments, I told him I can’t, because am not comfortable reading out my card details, will pay on delivery or on pick up. He said that’s fine and I placed my order. On getting there, restaurant closed, ringed severally and no one answered.

Both my friends and I have great Banquet Birthdays there before lockdown & now the takeaways are of the good quality , fresh, not greasy & no evidence of MSGs. I would recommend Chinatown to anybody.

We didn’t receive the duck sauce with the duck and pancakes, the pancakes were struck together. The rice was stodgy (definitely not fried) and had black, what looked like mouldy bits in it! The chicken balls are not chicken, just soft thick batter that tasted like doughnuts. As for the chowmein, i have never tasted anything so greasy! It was black and was so greasy it made me feel sick! The chicken skewers were disgusting too!! Happy Mother’s Day to me! Thought we would try somewhere new....never again! Food gone in the bin, and we feel sick!!! Never again!!! There are far better places to order Chinese food from.....do not order from here, very disappointing

We usually order from Fai Oriental but had an Uber code so thought we would give it a go. The noodles and spring rolls were lovely no issues at all! Unfortunately I ordered the curds in chilli and salt, the website said it was spicy... It was the most dried up flavourless thing iv ever tried! No salt, chilli or spice! It didn't look great and certainly didn't taste great! Cannot recommend! Shame as everything was really nice, having had the tofu in salt and chilli from Fai's il be sticking with them next time!!! The driver was lovely and the food came hot, just that dish let them down massively!!!

Having moved to the area during Summer 2020, we have tried a number of different Chinese Restaurants for takeaways during the restrictions, whilst most have been pretty good, we hadn’t found one to offer exceptional food, until we tried Chinatown.Reasonably priced with 15% discount for collection, ready on time, delicious food, nice and hot, good size portions. Looking forward to a return visit, and can’t wait to try the Sunday Special when the restaurant opens.

My family and I ordered a meal from Chinatown for new years eve. I know it was new years eve and they would be busy but that is no excuse for what was delivered to us! Chicken balls so hard and over cooked that if you were lucky to get into them the chicken was all dry , prawn toast which was burnt and soggy , squid which if lucky had 5 small bits , special fried rice over cooked with a burnt taste , I can go on most of the meal ended up in the bin and at a cost of £70 will never go back and will advise friends and family to stay away , if chefs can not cook under pressure they should not be in a kitchen may be time for them to look for new staff.

Got the thai green chicken curry and sweet and sour bean curd, it was wonderful and the taste was authentic. Food arrived in less that 30 minutes after ordering, the person I spoke to on the phone was nice and friendly.

Ok delivery's from here take forever. The chicken balls were mainly dough and tasted rank. The squid my wife had tasted horrible Don't order from here!

Be wary of using the JustEat app when ordering food from here. Twice they’ve sent a notification to say my food has been delivered, when it hasn’t. Both times I’ve called the restaurant and the food hadn’t even been cooked! Very unreliable.
